A great book for EMT's to be.......2007-10-11

This book shows you step by step on how to perform the duties of an EMT. From the legal issues, to the parts of the body, to patient assessment, to death, this book covers all the necessary topics of what EMT's will do on a regular basis. No matter how much training an EMT will get, they will not be prepared for every situation they encounter, but this book is a good tool to gain the knowledge on how to deal with most emergenices. It explains in detail and shows helpful pictures of things that are needed for one to know for the EMT course. Also there are questions at the end of each chapter to test you on the material you just read. I highly recommended this book for anyone who plans to become an EMT or just wants to learn about emergency patient care.

It has many illustrations, in depth anatomy coverage. However, sometimes there's critical scenarios that are past over very quickly, and you might not think it's important. Also, there should be some NREMT sample questions at the end of each question.

The EMT book that could.......2007-02-20

So the book came in good condition. It works for me and is great for learning from. Might I mention it is a text book so if your looking at buying it then you probly have to buy it anyway.

Excellent, but short of goal..........2006-08-04

This book and DVD is probably the best written text for EMT-B there is. Take the time (a lot!) to read it thoroughly. It does miss the mark if you solely rely on it to take the National EMT-B test: press your instructor's for the many detail's not in this book that are on the test if you want to pass!

It's horriable. I still havn't recieved it, and the dates you say the item will ship keep changing. This is for a class, and we've reached mid-term and I still have not recieved this book. It's a good thing i found a loner, won't be buying class materials from amazon anymore.

His more typical, and even more breathtaking, creations are often based on Hawaiian fish, like Steamed Gindai and Mussels with Lemongrass Broth. This is food pornography at its peak. Ambitious cooks will appreciate Trotter's recommended piscatorial substitutions. Finding other ingredients, like bleeding heart radishes and shallot blossoms, is up to you. Not to mention making time to produce the infused oils and deeply flavored stocks often called for. The recipes are grouped, unexpectedly, by the wines best for accompanying them. Trotter starts with champagne and proceeds through 16 other kinds of wine, from white Viognier to red Syrah and Barbera.

I can say that I am a reasonably competent home chef with an above-average knowledge of technique and most necessary equipment to get the job done. Having said that, I was impressed with the photos of nearly every featured recipe in this book and find the recipes to be admirably aggressive in their taste and texture contrasts. The recipes, however, are nearly all flawed in some significant manner in that following them verbatim will result in poor results. Even when this is not the case, I find these recipes to be "out of whack" from a taste perspective by any gastronome's standards and in need of serious tweaking. If you have good kitchen skills and seek to be inspired by the ideas in this book, then I would suggest it (USED!!) ... otherwise, there are much better cookbooks that will yield far superior results. I purchased the Charlie Trotter's Seafood and Dessert cookbooks and came to the same conclusion.

Don't try this at home!.......2002-10-16

Have you ever traveled cross-country to Chicago just to dine at Charlie Trotter's? I have, and it was one of the best meals of my life. This book and the others in the series are great at giving you a feel of what the real thing is like. The pictures are outstanding and the combinations just wow you. But if you think for a moment that any cookbook would allow you to duplicate what Charlie does, you are mistaken. Some cookbooks are for those who want to follow a recipe and duplicate it. This is not one of those. This is for people who want to understand the Chef's unique cuisine and appreciate it for the art that it is.

Good picture and idea book.......2001-05-03

This is a beautiful book. The pictures are stunning and the dishes are inspiring. That said, most of the recipes are terribly complicated for the home cook. Many of the fish are hard to get and regional; most of the preparations often require things that only a restaurant kitchen can feasibly do (i.e. tomato water).

Still, some of the dishes are approachable by the home cook and the if you are inventive, many could inspire you to come up with your own creations.

An added bonus (or potentially a distraction depending on you point of view) is that the dishes are grouped by the wines that would be accompany them - a novel approach.

Art Book, Cook Book........2000-04-11

All of Trotter's books are fabulous, but this particular book belongs right on the coffee table for everyone to admire as often as they'd like. It is as much an art book, as it is a cook book, and inspires the reader through its text as well as photos. It is also excellent because it is divided into sections by the wines that he has chosen to accompany each seafood dish. This is a great way to view food, and it is loveley that he creates dishes to accompany all sorts of wines, both red and white. A must have book for all food and wine enthusiasts.

The key here is you have to want to cook, not just talk the talk! Charlie's recipes are not difficult to follow. Substitutions are listed since many of the ingredients are unavailable or pricey. The recipes work well with any of the alternate ingredients and the flavors are intense. The basis are truly basis. Let's face it, pickling is just pickling. Don't be put off because he uses lambs tongue; if you do, you have missed the lesson. This a great study in culinary technique and I would use it with any beginner. It establishes such strong desires to learn and to try.

Hawaii's Native and Exotic Freshwater Animals.......2000-12-15

I love this book. For years I have been looking for a book on freshwater fish in Hawaii and now I got one. Great pictures and plenty of info on every freshwater animal in Hawaii! I highly recommend it for anyone who likes to fish in Hawaii's creeks or just wants to know what type of fish that was we used to throw rocks at.

Fun, Fast & Frivolous.......2007-02-23

Kay Capps-Cross has come up with a unique group of quilt patterns that will send you on the hunt for black and white fabrics. I have made two of her Slaphappy quilts in the past two months. This pattern is so easy and so much fun. If you hate tedious quilt patterns and matching every little corner then this is the pattern for you. Using black and white fabrics allows you to have a fool proof cooridanted color quilt with little effort. The results are gorgeous!

"A Baby's Garden" is a lovely way for gardening parent's to introduce their love of horticulture and nature with their most precious new addition. The opening page has a frame to put the little one's picture in. Each section has a list of suggested activities followed by pages to record your adventures in. The cutest thing is a place to put babies muddy handprints during different stages of their growth. Babies love the chance to get dirty without Mom or Dad panicking. There are a couple of pages in the back with wax paper type envelopes attached where you can press the child's first flowers, leaves, etc. As a gardener I believe this would be a wonderful way to explore the garden with your infant and allow both parent and child to experience the joys of the garden and continue learning

Understanding Inlaw Relationships Priceless.......2003-05-28

Unlike baking an instant cake, successfully coping with and managing family relationships is a complex task. The wide range of potential issues and approaches call for sensitivity, perceptiveness and understanding.

I found that this book provided me with a valuable perspective as well as insights and creative ways to improve inlaw relationships, well really, ALL kinds of family relationships.

Best of all, this book is not written in some obscure, multi-syllabic medical or technical style. It is very "digestible" information and I recommend it to anyone about to "acquire" a new set of inlaws or someone who is facing inlaw issues today.

I'm hoping to see future writings by this very accessible, human author who demonstrates the compassion and understanding we all need to improve our family relationships.

Disappointing..........2002-01-23

I have struggled to get along with my boyfriend's parents for the past year and, having read the positive reviews on the cover, had strong hopes that this book would offer some insight into how I could make things better with them.

I think that calling this book a "how-to" guide is misleading. This is mainly a collection of anecdotes from a variety of "in-laws". About 70% of these stories are about positive in-law relationships. The author merely strings these stories together and at the end of each chapter offers a small paragraph or two of vaguely-defined, common-sense suggestions.

If you are looking for some real life stories that you can relate to, you may enjoy this book. But if you are having real difficulties with your in-laws or prospective in-laws, this book offers little solid advice or insight.

Perfect for a gift.......2000-03-24

This book is written in a non-threatening prose that will spark many discussions in families. It tells the story of every family member from all sides whether you are a mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, niece, cousin or grandchild, daughter or son-in-law or ex. No one is left out. This book is an ice breaker and a warm cup of tea once things start improving. Read this and you will be guaranteed a happier life no matter who your relatives are.

Reflections of a gay banker.......2005-10-26

As an openly gay investment banker, I feel that I have expertise on both topics addressed in this book--namely finance and homosexuality. Few have considered how these two topics interact. I have often felt that the personal finance decisons of gay men like me (and women of course) are not the same as for those that are not gay. Bravo!!
