Yet his vigorous intellect and fervid eloquence gave him a high standing. He had much boldness and sincerity in asserting his opinions. This cost him the loss of his party nomination for governor (I believe it was in 1839), when he announced himself in favor of a national bank. Elected by the legislature judge of the northern circuit, he resigned six months before the expiration of his term and removed to the State of Texas.

Now in a completely revised second edition, with more essential charts and training schedules than any other runner's diary
Developed by the universally respected coaching duo that produced the bestselling Runner's Handbook and Competitive Runner's Handbook, this must-have guide has been a runners' favorite for years. Now completely revised, it combines an attractive week-by-week diary with lots of room for notes, plus all the helpful information runners need at their fingertips: expanded and updated pacing charts with minutes per mile and per kilometer; revised training schedules for beginners, competitors, and all levels of marathoners; useful charts on fuel and hydration; treadmill, heart-rate, and cross-training tables; and much more. Designed by the authors as their dream diary, this is the diary that a runner will buy every year to track their running regimen.
Customer Reviews:
Great Log With Great Charts and Info.......2004-12-09
My husband and I have been using this log for nine years. Two new logs are our annual new year's present to each other. One year he tried a different one, another year I tried a different one, but we both find this log to have the best format, charts, extra info, etc. If you don't keep a log, try it. You'll be amazed at how helpful and interesting it is to have a diary of your runs.
Best training diary on the market.......2002-12-02
I'm now placing my order for my sixth consecutive yearly training diary. It's easy to use, attractively designed and there's plenty of room for recording your daily runs. I use all the charts in the back: the week-by-week mileage chart, the training mileage graph, record of races, pr chart. The pacing charts and race time comparison and predictor charts are indispensable (yes, you can find this info on the web, but it's great to have right here in the book for when you are traveling).
Every runner should keep a log like this. It helps keep you motivated and see your progress.
Finally!.......1999-12-15
Finally, a logbook that has charts for the slower runners of this world! Somebody finally realizes that not everybody runs a 9:00 minute mile! Thank you!
A disappointing logbook, especially in its log design.......1999-07-09
I was very disappointed with the Runner's Training Diary, particularly with the "log" portion of the book. The design seemed dated and too confining. I never had enough room to write much, and it was visually unpleasant with its boxes of various grey shadings for the different categories. I did find the articles and charts generally useful, but to me, the "log" portion is the heart of any logbook, and I ended up ditching my Training Diary and bought The Ultimate Runner's Journal, which was much more flexible, has a much "cleaner" design, great articles, and included color pictures to boot!
Simply the best.......1999-06-12
Over the years I have used a number of different types of journals to log my workouts (including electronic logs), and this one is far and away the best I have found. I am going on my 3rd volume in a few weeks. I love the flexibility and ease of use of the training diary section, and the wealth of helpful information for pacing and training included in the back.
Book Description
This book, in the popular recipe-card-file-size, stocking-stuffer format, is chock full of best recipes and notes about Germany, including information on German-American culture, language, and sites. The German specialties in this book are wonderful. Beverages of fruit punch and May wine are sure to please any visitor. For a main course try stuffed cabbage rolls or venison Terrine with Black Forest asparagus and caraway potatoes. For dessert, try the Bavarian sweet rolls or Oma's apple dumplings!
Customer Reviews:
Incredible bargain, fantastic authentic recipes!.......2006-12-29
For the price, you can't beat this little spiral-bound book! It is surprisingly loaded with over a hundred authentic German recipes and many little tidbits and facts about German cuisine. Even better, this little item won't take up a lot of space on your hutch or cookbook shelf either! It can fit easily in a drawer or nook somewhere out of the way. Of course, you'll want to keep this one close at hand anyways.
If you are into pictures for your cookbooks, though, you might be a tad disappointed as it has none. The recipes are easy to follow, though, so it really should not pose any problem for you. I'm the type of cook who can take or leave pictures in my guides; it really depends on how well I know the ingredients. Also, another great feature about this book is that the ingreidents themselves are not rare, exotic or hard to find. You need not know a German butcher or importer to make the recipes contained herein.
Overall, for under $7, this is one of the best bargains and best finds you will ever encounter for German cookery, or any other regional cookbook for that matter! I highly recommend this product for anyone either looking to expand their horizons in European cooking or just looking for something unique and delicious from time to time!
German specialties and more!.......2000-11-20
Great German Recipes, in the popular recipe-card file size Stocking Stuffer format, is chock-full of the best recipes and notes about Germany. This book was compiled by Lynn Hattery-Beyer who married a German editor and has strong interest in the foods and traditions of the various regions of Germany. Originally from Iowa, Lynn went to West German to study, and stayed! The cover was done by artist Helen Blanck of Minnesota, who created the border art. She utilizes the traditional motif of flowers in this design.
Great German Recipes contains an array of information on German-American culture. language and sites. Notes on German Table Blessings and Traditions demonstrate how German eating habits differ from ours in many respects. Also included are Menu Suggestions for a complete, delicious meal!
The German specialties included in this book are wonderful! Beverages of Fruit Punch and May Wine are sure to please any visitor. Start your meal with a Dandelion Salad and Bremen Herring served with Old Order Amish Bread! For a main course try Stuffed Cabbage Rolls or Venison Terrine with Black Forest Asparagus and Caraway Potatoes. For dessert, try the Bavarian Sweet Rolls or Oma`s Apple Dumplings! These are just a few of the options offered in this book!
Great German Recipes is excellent for personal collections and as a memento of German-American traditions!
$6.95......What a steal!.......2000-10-13
When I saw this little cookbook for only $6.95 I thought I'd give it a try. Boy was I surpised. It was well organized with over 150 pages of recipes that are easy to read and follow. After living in Germany for three years I was looking for some authentic recipes that I could use to bring back some old memories, and they were there along with quite a few phases in German which really touched home. Many of the recipes are some of my favorites but I was disapointed that there a few classics left out like Jagersnitzel. Other then that the book was great! It's a real steal for only $6.95...

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

A great resource for writers as well as pet owners!.......2000-02-27
I am an administrator on an online community where Ancient Egypt is one of the "cities". The biggest problem for people there is finding good authentic character names for themselves and their storylines. Ms. Durr's book, though intended as a resource for breeders and owners of Pharaoh Hounds, has been invaluable to me as a writer and has allowed me to make some very good suggestions to folks on the site who come to me for ideas as to what to name their characters.
The book is filled with thousands of names of Pharaohs, Queens, god-names, Egyptian symbols, sacred animals, Nomes and Districts in Ancient Egypt and different Ancient Egyptian words and phrases that are translated into the English.
I have recommended it to other writers on the site and they have commented that it is very helpful. I imagine that if you are an animal lover and have a dog or cat that you want to give a powerful and "different" name from Ancient Egypt, this is an excellent resource.

best handbag making book out there.......2007-08-23
Very clear instructions and gorgeous bags. Bag designs are 'vintage' but very modern at the same time, unlike some eighties-like designs from other books.
Not Hokey.......2006-06-02
I bought this book unseen and hoped for the best - quite often with purse books a lot of the styles end up being hokey and NOTHING I would ever want to carry or submit my friends to. I teach purse making classes (Amy Butler patterns) and wanted to check this out. Very nice, I would carry most of these purses and have made 2 fun little handbags out of this book. easy to follow, creative, simple and classic. The lines are clean and would translate well in many different kinds of fabric. For the most part they are fun 'going out' bags there arent a lot (if any) multi-pockets mom type purses. These are the styled out designs for ladies of the past who had hats that matched their bags. I don't have a matching hat, but my little bag in cotton Merimekko fabric sure does hip up my flip flops and sundress when I am out and about town....
ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS ON BAG MAKING!.......2006-05-07
I am a Crafter and Teacher of sewing...I love to teacher bag making, people have fun and always fall in love with the bag they made. I have many books on all crafts...but this book is one of the best on bag making....it's so easy to follow. It also has the patterns, you can't beat it. I have been sewing for more then twenty years and this book helped me learn a few new things about sewing.

Christine's review.......2007-07-05
I am a HUGE Bon Jovi fan. I did enjoy this book, but it left me wanting more. I expected more information other than what every Bon Jovi fan already knows. It didn't delve deep into the real solid relationship between the band members. The story is about Jon and how he got started. If you're hoping for information about his marriage and children, you will be disappointed. This book is not a behind the scenes look at the man, but more about life with the band, the struggles and achievements.
Jon Bon Jovi.......2007-03-28
Jon Bon Jovi is great and this is a great book about him.
junk mail!.......2007-01-21
Pass this one up. As a longtime BonJovi fan, I usually enjoy reading anything about the band but this book is just rehash. She's never met or interviewed the boys, she just put together other people's work and called it a book. Don't waste your money.
Have a nice day .......2006-01-11
I did not think I would learn anything new that I did not already know before, but this book was much more informative than I expected. It talks in depth about all the reasons behind everything, about Jon's early inspirations, and how all of the hits ranked on the charts.
Although it was overflowing with endless knowledge, the facts seemed to just be listed off on the page at times. I wish that she wrote it as more of a story so that the reader is drawn in deeper so that they can feel like they were there. So that when the ending comes around, the reader feels like they truly know Jon Bon Jovi. His story is so easy to get caught up in all the emotion and excitement, but she hindered that effect by just laying out the facts. She tried to express his determined personality, great accomplishments, humble beginnings, and drive by using descriptive language. Her choice of words were great, but it didn't flow well and the British slang made one too many appearances.
At parts she would give away what happens further into his life, which might not bother most people, but it bothered me. If Jon didn't know of something at that point in his life, then the reader shouldn't know it at that point in the story either. That way the reader can better connect to Jon and might be able to better understand what he was going through.
She used many quotes by all of the band members of the band to better describe events happening, even though the quotes were from the media. I won't bash her for not interviewing the band because I know that they are very reluctant to give away their inside story. So she did her best in gathering and organizing all of the information she has obtained throughout the years.
Even though this is a biography about Jon, she still talks a great deal about the other members of the band. But she doesn't overdo it so much that it would have to be called a biography on the band Bon Jovi because she doesn't talk about their childhoods or go too in depth about their personal lives, just about their time spent in the band with Jon.
Nothing new/wrong.......2005-06-27
As an old Bon Jovi fan I was completely dissapointed by this book. It is absolutely clear that the content is based just on the info gathered from media and the author haven't even met the band members or other people mentioned in the book. Some of the facts and opinions in the book are very doubtful. I think any Bon Jovi fan could write a better 'biography'. Dont waste money on this one.

MUST HAVE FOR BON JOVI FANS.......2000-03-28
This book gives an in depth history of this legendary band from New Jersey. In talks about the band before they were signed up to 1994. It goes in depth about the bands relationship when it was on the rocks in the early 90's and also dedicates an entire chapter to the dispute between bon jovi and skid row. it is written by someone who has followed the band for years and is a respected hard rock journalist. From their first appearence at the Monsters of Rock in donnington to the moscow peace festival this book has it all. For people interested in illustration, there are plenty of pictures as well. other great books by this author include Motley Crue: Lude Crude and Rude

All Night Long... : The True Story of Bon Jovi.......2001-08-23
It's clear from this book that this guy cannot write. Bon Jovi are huge and have a huge story to tell. Can you tell it in 99 pages? Of course not. Where 'The Dirt' by Motley Crue is sublime, this book by Wall is ridiculous. There is no style to his writing. His words are far from exciting, and, are infact, boring. Clearly he has done this just for the money. Unless of course, he just can't write. I suspect he is a college grad who's pa works for the publishing company. You get no insight into the band here, and you learn nothing new. Motley Crue are much finer storytellers, and they are not even writers. (Yes I know the book was ghost written by journo Neil Strauss.) Save your money on this one. I have all the books on Bon Jovi, and this is the only one I'd say steer well clear of. It's just a shame I can't get my money back. Still, die hard Jovi fans will lap it up purely because it's about their fave band and they have to have all the stuff they can collect. But anyone with a brain will give up on this past page 12. Mick Wall, who is he? Get a life and learn to write, buddy! But please, no more rock bios! Leave it to the pro's, like Neil Strauss!

I CAN'T SEE..........2000-03-28
I can't see how a book with only 96 pages can cover all the aspects of the career of such a great, good and famous band as Bon Jovi, with already almost twenty years on the road. TO to that, it is necessary a book like Mick Wall wrote about Iron Maiden, called "RUN TO THE HILLS", with almost 300 pages filled with text (not photos).
All Hail the Great Bon Jovi.......2000-03-17
Do you love the Bon jovi as much as i do? Still get goose bumps when you hear Always or the beginning chords of Wanted? Or have you just discovered this great band and want to find out just what you've been missing all these years? Then this book is for you! It covers the everything from their slow but steady start in the bars of New Jersey until their record breaking days as one of the greatest live rock and roll bands ever! But read this book quick because with their new album CRUSH about to hit stores, in June I am quite sure the story is not over. And there will be a quite a few more bon jovi books to read in the not to distant future. But for now this is the best Bon jovi book out there.
A must for Bon Jovi fans!.......2000-03-08
I am a big Bon Jovi fan which made this book very interesting to me. It starts with Jon recording at the Power Station to the madness of Slippery When Wet and New Jersey, to the writing for the These Days album. It covers the trials and tribulations of the band that almost broke them apart and the counseling that brought them back together. Gives great insight to the Young Guns II album with the number one single Blaze of Glory. It is written in British style that makes it harder to read and understand at times but flows well. This is a must for all rock fans and especially fans of the best rock and roll band ever.

wrong eye color.......2007-09-15
The only reason I give this book only 3 stars is that the author did not even get the color of Jon Bon Jovi's eye correct! It makes me wonder what else is not correct. Page 39 "You Give Love a Bad Name", 1st paragraph....."But throw the video of Jon's twinkling BROWN eyes and Richie's hard-man black hat into the equation........"
The songs of Bon Jovi.......2000-04-13
The Complete Guide to the Music of Bon Jovi is an awesome book to read if you are a big fan. This book tells about their songs beginning with their first album Bon Jovi and going through the album These Days. Each song has it's own description of what it's about, where the idea came from to write it, and from who. If that isn't awesome enough, there are several photos of the band doing photo shoots and playing in concerts. This is definitely a book worth owning if you love Bon Jovi.
On the other half of the sky..........2000-04-07
Not so long ago, I made a trip in Bon Jovi's world... It was a friday night, strange and unbelieveble night. I have been sat on my bed, and looked up to the cover of this book... My favorite band. I opened it, and have been discovered the other side of the simple blue pic, with five guys, figured on the cover... An unknown story appeared in all those interview's parts, since the begining up till 1996. Each tiny paragraphs was a part of memories related by the band's members. A cute diary that brought me in the Bon Jovi's reality... I can't remember when I was turned the last page and closed the book, but I know that when the sun has been woken me, the book was close to me, my hand still on it, and a song has been lodged in my head. I guess it was I sleep when I'm dead... But maybe it was just a dream:) A kind of trip, on the other half of the sky... Hope you'll enjoy it as I was...

Totally not what I expected.......2006-04-27
As an avid reader of Anne Frank, her story and family history, I was interested in this book, as there are few written of Otto Frank.
I was appalled to say the least. It left me questioning the authors motives?
I feltthe author had an unnatural obsession with Otto, and to be "part" of his world. She wrote him from her teens to adulthood. In early letters, it's as if she's trying to "channel" Anne Frank,to write and be like her, claim she "feels her" all around. It's as if she is trying to BE her for Otto, in hopes that she'll remind him of Anne. She talks/complains about her younger life in letters and asks for advice. After Otto's history and his family's fate, it seems bizarre she would do this. Especially since his daughters never had the chance to live their lives. It's unnerving. In one letter, as the author is older, she excitedly shares news that her new house has an attic and she's always wanted one. Saying this to a man who hid his family in an attic to try and save their lives is tactless. I cringed through most of the book and wondered why it seemed in some letters, genuine and others, self serving. It was just plain odd.
There are clear instances when Otto Frank, refuses to answer questions, suggests he's not able to do what she wants him to do (visit her, come to her wedding, etc) The author tells him she wants to write a book about him, he states he wants no part of it, and specifically requests that she does not follow up on the idea. (pg56) Her "love" for this "adopted grandfather" is questionable to me, as she went against these wishes to write this book anyway. In reading and learning about Otto Frank, he was an intensly private man who would have never wanted his letters shared. He corresponded with anyone who was kind enough to write him.He turned no one away and often met with people who wrote. I think his genuiness, care and thankfulness for people who appreciated and loved his daughter was exploited here. He wrote back to her and cared for this author, but his letters rarely seem anything other than polite.
It's not a book I'd recommend, it left me feeling so sorry for Otto Frank. I felt this book exploited him (in my opinion)
