Book Description
This book deals with the life and works of the great Russian scientist Dmitry Ivonovich Mendeleyev (1834-1907), discoverer of the Periodic Law of the Elements.
Mendeleyev's work had many features that were typical of advanced Russian natural science as a whole. He possessed a breadth of vision that led him into many fields of scientific work.
The main feature of Mendeleyev's work was the importance he attached to linking theoretical work with practice, with life. As an epigraph to his Foundation of Chemistry he chose the prophetic words: "What science sows the people will reap." On whatever problem he was working, all his deeds were inspired by the wish to help the development of the productive forces of his native land and to advance technique and science in Russia.
He drew up a long-term program for exploiting Russia's extremely rich natural resources and applying chemistry to various brances of the nation's exonomic life. He is rightly known as the initiator of the wide application of chemistry to Russian industry and agriculture.
It was Mendeleyev who conducted the first serious agrochemical research in Russia. He established the first network of agricultural experimental stations. Supervising the work of the Chamber of Weights and Measures he prepared the introduction into Russia of the metric system.

The primary focus of this book is two fold. Providing a basic understanding of how this treatment works, and giving the reader a way to easily perform self treatment. It is well written and organized, and the technique is easily applied. I recommend the book highly.

I have used "Matrix Repatterning" with patients who would not respond to the usual methods I use in chiropractic practice.
This is a beautiful concept that I have only recently been exposed to. It has practical validity.

Inspiring book, easy to understand.......2005-02-11
This book was very inspiring for the chronic pain and dysfunction sufferer. It is written clearly and it is concise and very easy to understand. Although not everyone will be interested in the self help portion, the book takes us to a new place of understanding how our old trauma's, falls, car accidents, etc., have impacted our body in ways we never realized. Dr. Roth has synthesized this cutting edge information and shown how anyone can reduce the effects of these injuries with a simple and gentle approach.

The Matrix Repatterning Program for Pain Relief opened my eyes to a whole new way of appreciating my body and understanding why I have pain. It provides useful information, backed by scientific studies, in a clear, concise manner with lots of illustrations. It helped me to understand how pain works, and how it could come from a problem in another part of the body. I also appreciated the stories of people who had been able to overcome their difficulties with these gentle techniques. The self-help program was simple and easy to follow. I highly recommend this book.

I cannot stress how wonderful this cookbook is. Every receipe is better than the last. The best thing about this cookbook is that the receipes are so simple and they use normal ingredients that you can find anywhere... no matter where you live! I have given over 10 of these as gifts and never a complatint yet... You have to get this. Once your hooked on "Jan's Brownies" , you'll never make boxed brownies again.
The Best Cookbook I Own........2002-01-11
I received this cookbook from my mother several years ago. Since then I have given over 10 as gifts myself. The reason I love this cookbook so much is that it calls for normal, everyday ingredients that are not hard to find. I have made 90% of the receipes in the cookbook and have loved them all. The absolute best brownies I have ever tasted are "Jan's Brownies"... you must make them for your family. I cannot tell you how much you need this cookbook in your own collection.

My Dad got this book for me for my birthday several years ago and I have enjoyed it immensely. Then a girlfriend of mine was about to have a birthday. She doesn't like to cook much and leans more towards the artsy side of life. I felt led to give her my copy. I thought if anything, this book would help her to see that cooking IS artistic! She absolutly loves the book -- the only problem is now I cannot get a replacement for myself because the book is on backorder. ::Sigh:: I'll keep at it though until I get another one. My latest favorite!.......1999-06-29
This is a book you'll fall in love with - more so as you turn each page. I originally bought in when looking for recipes that used fresh herbs. My kids were thrilled to see the recipes for Hello Dollies and PLAY DOUGH! Guess which one we use the most?
Now I'm buying this book for all my friends - with basic recipes like "How to Boil an Egg" it makes the perfect wedding gift!
The lovely illustrations and beautiful script make it as enjoyable to read as it is to use! "Just a Matter of Thyme" isn't just my latest favorite book and gift - it has become my motto for life!
This cookbook is awesome!.......1998-10-07
I received "Just a Matter of Thyme" from my husband as a present during our first Christmas as husband and wife. I was a bit put out. So he wants me to make fancy meals for him? This is his idea of marriage? Then I opened the cookbook and laughed at the every day ingredients such as Uncle Ben's Long Grain and Wild Rice, cream of mushroom soup, and Velveeta. My next thought was that my husband didn't have much faith in me as a cook.
I was wrong. I have never made a recipe from "Just a Matter of Thyme" that didn't get compliments. My daughter loves the Chocolate Crinkle cookies. Friends always ask for the Apple Strudel Pie recipe. They take one bite and there's silence. Then, "Wow, this is really delicious." And the most wonderful thing is that the pie looks beautiful but is so easy to make.
Speaking of easy to make, there's a Chicken Enchilada recipe that takes no time at all, and is scrumptous. There's a similar recipe in another cookbook I own that took me three hours to make! And it didn't taste any better.
That's how I'd sum up "Just a Matter of Thyme." Easy and delicious recipes made from every day ingredients. In fact, I'm ordering a copy for my father who doesn't even know how long to cook pasta. I know he'll use and enjoy this cookbook.
Plus, there's delightful illustrations that inspire the artist in me to be creative while cooking, as well as unique gift basket ideas, and a recipe for play dough.
There's also great appetizer and soup recipes that I haven't gotten to because I keep making the same favorites over and over again.
You'll want to keep "Just a Matter of Thyme" on your book shelf right next to "The Joy of Cooking."

The author has a point!.......2007-09-21
I've already left a review of Lucarini's second tome (Can We Rock the Gospel?), so I believe it's necessary to comment on this first book.
First of all, many don't know that this book is in it's 18th printing (at the time I bought it last year)! Secondly, as I mentioned in the other review, how come you cannot find this (or the other book) in your local Christian bookstore? Namely, because of it's valid criticisms and the (possible) loss of revenue for CCM music sales! It's all about marketing, isn't it? We, as the catholic church (I'm referring to the Christian church worldwide, not the denomination headed by the Pope in Rome), are falling into apostasy and losing our focus on the message of His Holy Word.
I've written to the author and very much appreciated his response back to me. His stories, recollections, and input from additional worship leaders only validates my experiences. My only disagreement with him is the use of drums and electric guitar in worship + the use of TRAX in worship, too. My thoughts are: what does a smaller congregation (less then 100) do with limited musicians and resources? Not do a song simply because the only way to present it is by electronic means? If the message is validated by the Holy Word and the music (melody and harmony + rhythm) support and not overwhelm the text, then by all means use it! I've used TRAX on ocassions; it's not my preference, but sometimes its the only option. The same applies to guitar and drums: if the message is "drowned" out then how is the message gotten across? The same could apply to an organist, who plays "full-throttle" much to the detriment of hearing the congregation! As a worship leader, it's my responsibility to point that out to ALL musicians.
Dan's book is great, and we need to keep "balance" in terms of music's role in the worship service. As per my other review, the problem is not so much the music, but the attitude that comes along the "Rock 'n Roll" style. Well-trained and gifted musicians are being aside for what the "masses" are screaming for. Senior Pastors WORLDWIDE are falling prey to the "apple of desire" mainly more numbers + revenue for the church coffers. I believe Martin Luther spoke against this, as has others throughout Christianity's history. DO NOT write this book off! Dan is ready and available to dialogue with you (e-mail) and this book would work great with a Worship Ministry team at any church!
A Bit Much.......2007-09-12
I agree with alot of the points as far as the services being more reverent and respectful,but the idea of the presence of drums and electric guitars being almost considered evil in themselves is a bit much.I think that if their use in worship makes one feel sensual and carnal in any way, the problem lies within that persons spirit not the use of any type of instrument.I would also like to say that if one based praise and worship totally on the principles in this book,you would effectively wipe out 100 years of a wonderful African-American gospel music tradition in this country. There are many scriptures that refer to loud instruments being played to worship God,the stringed instrument and the drum among them.I love the Hymns and I love Gospel and Southern Gospel,but I also love blues and rock,most of all I love My Lord And Saviour Jesus Christ. Jesus will help you discern what is appropriate and what is not, look to the Cross.

If you are walking down the street and you hear music comming from a church can you tell if it is Music from a Church or from a rock concert.
If you can't tell the difference then there "IS A REAL PROBLEM". Listen to the lyrics of the music if they are centered on "I" or "Me" then who is the music actually worshiping? Think about it!
Book and people who agree with is based on opinion, not fact........2007-08-06
The author's position of Contemporary Christian music is based off of opinion, not fact. There is no biblical support for not using worldly music for the glory of God, or using songs that are "general God" songs. One who agrees with him should look for biblical backing on his opinions and would find that there are none. The psalms are covered with "general God" songs, and they were also set to the tunes of folk songs in the area that they were written. That is why there are no notes on the melody to the songs except that before each psalm, the author tells us what the tune is. They wrote them like this so that everyone could sing praises to God and know the melody. Also, the Jews of ancient used worldly instruments and dances to worship their God, and God was praised.
To the reviewer who complained that too many christian songs are "7-11" songs (songs that have seven words repeated over eleven times) it would do him wise to look into the Psalms (which was and is the Jewish Hymnal for praising God) and see how many of them are full of these "7-11" songs which are supposedly rubbish and not worshipful. It seems funny that Jesus was able to worship this way, and yet those who haven't actually searched the scriptures and instead put words in God's mouth based on opinion, can't.
If you don't like Contemporary Music, then don't go to it. But there's no sense in trying to say it's from the devil or evil just because you don't prefer it. It would do those of you who prefer traditional worship well to remember that Bach was ridiculed and so was Martin Luther for their music. The organ was considered worldly and evil. It was banned from churches when it first was invented. Now all of a sudden it is commonly accepted because it has been around for a while. Worship is worship. You cannot tell people, based off preference, what is and what isn't worship. Living your life as a sacrifice to God is worship. Worship isn't just on Sundays, it's every minute of your life- and until you get your entire life perfect (impossible) stop judging those who are on the same side and profess Jesus Christ as their risen savior, because there are lost people out there who won't be in heaven- and it seems that some would rather argue inside the church instead of telling those who don't know about Jesus, over a preference. If it's too loud, don't come. You don't see Contemporary Music making books about why traditionalists are going to hell and are leading people there because they play hymns. Very rarely would you find someone so intolerant of our churches sacred past.
Your preference is not God's Word. I strive to live my life according to His word, and the ways that others in the past have led their life. One way is through the Bible and learning about their culture. If you researched these things you would find that there is more biblical support for making worldly worship than any other. The entire sacrifice system was first created by non-Jews. God used that system because it was something the Jews would understand based on the culture in which they lived. God's temple system with priests were the same way. Martin Luther and many other hymn writers followed the ancient tradition set by the Psalmists by writing hymns based off of bar tunes and common folk melodies. In fact you would be surprised how many of them there are.
Remember- your preference for a different style of worship doesn't mean this is unbiblical and against God- it means that you don't like it. God is still praised. God is still magnified and lifted high. God's Kingdom is grown daily because of what His Holy Spirit is doing through the lives of those who attend His Contemporary Worship Services, and listen to His Contemporary Worship Music.
CCM - A Present Form of Worldliness.......2007-07-26
Dan Lucarini lucidly describes the travesty Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) has wrought among the saints. As a pastor who only permits traditional worship formats in the church, I recommended the book from the pulpit to the entire congregation and assigned it as required reading for the board of deacons. The book continues to be refreshing two days after reading it and the Holy Spirit used the content to move me to pray for believers regarding issues I never have before. It is apparent that the author is sensitive to the Holy Spirit's ways with him, that he is a willing vessel to be used by God for His glory, and that God's Word is a priority in his life. The author's humility is evident and his confession of sin in the book will bring conviction by the Spirit on any believer who is positive to fulfilling God's plan for his life. The pupose of the local church is not to attract the world through seeker sensitive music, programs, and worship formats but to edify the saints through expositional Bible teaching & preaching. Then the saints are prepared to go out from the church into the world and evangelize the lost.
