This book is very intriquing and gives tremendous insights into errors made by the FBI and rampant corruption in our justice system. Mr. Payne is, without a doubt, a very brave man and an outstanding writer. This book is great!

Quintessential Book on Flower Essences.......2003-06-15

If you read just one book on Flower Essences, this is the one to read. Ms. Wright takes using Flower Essences to a whole new level. I will admit I was a little skeptical at first by what is being put forth in this book and I was unsure as to where to start. I have now gotten my feet wet and I am trying some of the various techniques covered. I was taught that flower essences just treated emotional problems. In this book, Ms. Wright takes it farther. After all, if you take a wholistic approach to health, then you know that illness starts on the emotional, mental & spiritual levels and then filters down. Therefore, you can realistically say that treating your emotional, etc problems would greatly benefit your overall health. I also realized that when I have a cathartic reaction to a course of essences, that I can just retest myself when that happens to address the issue that has come up. But read the book for yourself and expand your use of flower essences.

I've worn out my first copy.......2007-10-07

I've just ordered a copy to replace my condiment stained, well thumbed edition that has endured a busy kitchen for 12 years. I've also ordered more as gifts. I've had some classical training so I know that not all the recipes in here are high standard gourmet but they are all good. I could spend 2 days making a cassoulet (one day just for getting the ingredients together) or I can make the one here which everyone loves. The chili here is good and takes about 5 minutes to put together (another 15 to simmer) and is a pot luck favorite. My teenage daughters are learning how to cook with this. I have over 400 cookbooks but...this is the one I use. I can't praise it highly enough.

Indispensable.......2005-02-22

I've owned this cookbook for about 8 yrs. The recipes for the most part require ingredients that can readily be found in most people's cupboard on a typical day. What I really like about this cook book is that except for a few exceptions...every recipe is deeeeeeelicious!! Here are some of the exceptional ones...Chicken Enchilada Casserole, Cheddar Noodle Casserole, Turkey Tortilla Bake, Broccoli Souffle Bake & My Favorite Quiche. Even the kids will eat these..cause the they don't actually see the veggies & healthy stuff inside...they see cheese on top and believe it's yummy to eat..
I recommend this cook book for any person who's rushed for time and rarely has a bunch of gourmet ingredients in the house.

Quck and easy BUT..........2002-06-21

Yes this book has recipes that are quick and easy, I will give it that. It also has basic ingredients that can be found in everyone's kitchens. My major problem with this book is that it doesn't list the nutritional information for each recipe. So if you are trying to watch your waistline or sodium intake this book is not for you. It is definitely a book full of comfort food that your Grandmother uses to make!

I Couldn't Live Without My Copy!.......2000-07-06

If the burden of cooking ever falls on you as it has fallen upon me (for a grouchy "bear" of an Uncle) you'll love this book as much as I do! It is full of quick and easy dinner recipes that are made from common ingredients found in most kitchens. And the taste is superb, good enough to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. This book is invaluable!

The ultimate comfort food . . ........2000-06-27

I was raised on casseroles: tuna noodle casserole; a ground beef, tomato and elbow macaroni concoction my mother called "goolash" (not to be confused with the Hungarian dish of similar name); stuffed peppers and stuffed cabbage; ham and green beans with new potatoes. Casseroles were a good way to stretch the food budget. In addition, they were regular staples at the monthly church pot luck dinners (for our denomination, the monthly pot luck was nearly a sacrament!).

Natalie Haughton has compiled a very creative collection of one-dish recipes. She shows a lot of flexibility with the term "one-dish," including the wok, pressure cooker, and salad bowl in the definition. The result is a nice mix of easy, plain, fancy, and more complex recipes, a number of which are good company fare.

Among my favorites are a version of Irish Lamb Stew very similar to one I was served at Bunratty Folk Park near Shannon Airport in Ireland (a dish that I'd enjoyed immensely, and had been searching for the recipe for several years!); a very nice Over Beef Stew; a good-enough-for-company Meat and Spinach Torte, made in a springform pan with puff pastry crust; a stick-to-your-ribs Cheddar Noodle Casserole, made with spinach fettuncine, smoked turkey breast, and cheddar cheese.

All in all, a surprisingly good book, full of creative virtually fool-proof recipes. This is another of my "desert island" cookbooks!

Very good intro to the sport of dog showing.......2000-06-26

Good Showing is a very basic, introductory book for people new to the world of dog shows. It would be useful for show spectators (good manners at shows, understanding what is going on in the ring) or for someone just beginning to consider getting involved in dog showing. If you are already at the point of owning a show dog, you know (or certainly should know) everything this book can tell you. A lot of the material is common sense and common courtesy-be sure your dog is well trained and well groomed, clean up after your dog, dress properly for the ring, follow the judge's instructions. There is a chapter on the considerable costs of owning and showing a dog, which would be a helpful eye-opener to someone thinking of getting into the sport.

Caveat: Peggy Grayson is a British judge, and these books contain details specific to The Kennel Club. I enjoyed finding out about the British dog world and the KC system, but if you are not British, some sections of the books can be ignored, as they deal with how to fill out KC forms, specific KC regulations, and so forth.

She encourages a program of recovery, including support networks, nutritional info, aromatherapy, acupuncture and pressure and herbal therapy as well. I had the delightful opportunity to meet Brigette when I lived in Boulder. I see that she had continued her studies and practice of her healing arts. I look forward to more books by Mars.

lots of info.......2005-08-01

This book is packed with info which will be of great interest to guitar gear-heads. You would have to search throught decades of old guitar magazines to compile the facts found here. A lot of the popular guitar players from the last 40 years are represented here, with the obvious exceptions of Stevie Ray Vaughan, (Beats me as to why any book would leave him out???) and Jimmy Page. It also wastes a lot of pages on several contemporary one hit wonders who will be nobody in a year. For example, Tom Delonge of Blink-182 is included, but Slash, who is actually a talented guitar player, is left out. The CD that accompanies the book was a bit of a dissapointment. With all the info in the book about vintage amps giutars and pickups, the CD was recorded with a computer's digital amp simulator and sound very innaccurate and fake. Still, for the price, it's a lot of good info.

Son of Guitar Shop's Revenge!!.......2003-10-16

Having read the book I'm pleased to say that I found it both interesting, informative, and fun. I like the no nonsense get down to it approach to the different guitar players and there gear. The rundown of the various guitars, amps, strings, and pedals, pedals, pedals used by these "Guitar Legends" (most of them are... but a few really don't deserve that title) gives a great insight in to the many sounds and tones you can generate from a electric guitar. More so Pete and Lisa go in to the playing styles of these players to give you ideas on how to go about adding some of there "Mojo" in to your style.

Perhaps the most important thing I got out of the book was to reafirm what I have felt for many years now. YOUR SOUND IS IN YOUR HANDS...not in some amp, speaker, or little pretty colored box from who knows where. Great Players sound great on anything but, by seeing the choices they have made in guitars and other gear goes a long way into developing your own choices for your own sound and style. I think players of all levels would enjoy reading this book because it covers sounds from the dawn of rock & roll up to the present.

The enclosed CD by Pete Brown has many good examples of the different sounds and playing styles of the many guitarists in the book. It is not a big over produced demo. It sounds like it was recorded at home using gear most of us have or can afford. The cool thing is Mr. Brown has the guitar chops to pull off close approxamations of the various "Guitar Legends" in the book. They are not perfect but they are well done nontheless. See what I mean good players sound good on anything. I'll be stealing some of those licks in no time. Where can I get my hands on Volume 2.

Fake CD contradicts the spirit of the title.......2003-10-11

The book is superficial and somewhat disappointing; for example it is confusing and unhelpful in Van Halen's signal path. Dave Hunter's books are closer to what's needed. This book is ok to add to a collection, but not the first book to get.

The accompanying CD sounds bad. After gathering articles about genuine star guitar rigs, one editor poured his time and energy into making a so-called sample CD -- using an amp simulator. The CD tracks provide fake, incomplete, half-baked Tone at best. It misleads and misguides beginning guitarists to make them think that this non-range of non-Tone is worth recording. These tone samples are mediocre at best; instead, Dave Hunter's CDs with his good books set a proper standard.

Why would anyone ever choose to listen to this fake sound when they could easily put on a genuine, rich sounding record instead? It's misguided to use the opposite of Tone, to create a CD that is marketed as showcasing the goal amp sounds, including actual power tubes and bona fide speaker distortion, which are explained to some extent within the book.

What this CD ends up demonstrating is negative: why your tone is doomed to sound like a total uninspired amateur and poseur if you use an amp simulator rather than actual power tubes and hard-pushed guitar speaker. The CD perpetuates the divide between kids' gear and adult gear (per the Damage Control founders who broke off from Line 6 corporation). Actual cranked amps are essential to the qualifications of the guitar gods.

This sample CD could be a boon to amp tone, by steering people away from amp simulators, jolting some good sense into them to run out and get instead an actual miked-amp setup, such as a tube power amp and a guitar speaker, possibly in an isolation booth.

Prown and Sharken Great TEAM !!!!!.......2003-09-22

Gear secrets is an interesting book full of the type of thing you would have read in the old Guitar shop magazine. The diagrams are easy to follow and the explanation of the signal chains are often done in the own words of the artist.
There is a good mix of players from vaious musical genres and enough info to satisfy players of all types. Even if you are not interested in certain guitar players it IS interesting to read about how they set up their gear.

Excellent Guitar-Tone Tips...Very Useful!.......2003-09-20

I like this book a lot--there a great tips for guitarists on how to improve your tone. I learned that, if you want to sound like a top guitarist, it's not about what gear you own--it's about how you set your amp and effects up, and how you play your instrument. (Just because you buy an Eddie Van Halen guitar, that doesn't mean you're going to sound like Van Halen!)

The CD that comes with the book also demonstrates how to sound like just about anybody--ERIC CLAPTON, VAN HALEN, ANGUS YOUNG, METALLICA and more. Overall, this book has really changed the way I approach my rig and my guitar playing. Cool.

Mendy Ganchrow, M.D. has met and conferred with American Presidents from Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton, with Israeli Prime Ministers from Yitzhak Rabin to Ariel Sharon, with many members of the U.S. Congress and the Knesset, as well as with religious leaders in Israel, the United States, and many other countries around the world. In Journey through the Minefields, he shares his many experiences with those personalities and events that have shaped our contemporary world.

The Vietnam War was, perhaps, the seminal moment in Ganchrow's life. As a young doctor and officer, soon promoted to Major in the active battle-zone, he brought his surgical skills to those young American servicemen wounded in combat. As an observant Jew, who became an acting Jewish Chaplain in Long Binh, he brought spiritual comfort to fellow Jews serving with him.

While in the midst of a very successful career as a surgeon, it was suggested to Ganchrow that he join AIPAC, The American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
