Book Description
Letters to Libby/ Part One is part one of a three part series. The books are comprised of edited letters written by Joseph A. White to his wife (Elizabeth T. White ["Libby"]) during World War II. The letters in Part One chronicle a tale beginning in the U.S. in Presque Isle, Maine (September, 1942), and ending in Goubrine, Tunisia (August, 1943). The sorrow of parting, the misery of separation, the vicissitudes of Army-Air Corps life; all are themes well explored, and overcome by faith in God and the love between a man and a woman.

Book Description
When all is well with our eyes, most of us take them for granted. But when our vision is blurred or our eyes are itchy and watery, it's hard to concentrate on anything but our eyes. In The Eye Book, three eye care specialists present a comprehensive reference to help readers care for their eyes and protect their vision, with special attention to changes and diseases that occur in the adult years.
After detailing how the various parts of the eye work together so we can see, the authors review everything that can go wrong -- from myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism to the major disorders of cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration. They also thoroughly describe each part of the eye and the problems that can develop, from the irritation of itchy eyelids and conjunctivitis to emergency situations such as a detached retina. They describe the signs and symptoms of all these problems and how to deal with them, including when to apply a warm compress -- and when to head to the emergency room. Medical and surgical treatment of both minor eye irritations and major diseases are explained in detail, so readers know where to turn and what to expect.
The authors also tell readers what happens during an eye examination and how to recognize an eye emergency. They explain all about eyeglasses, including the various kinds of bifocals, and describe the care and maintenance of contact lenses in a way that makes wearing them a viable option for anyone who wishes to do so. They detail the special concerns of people with systemic diseases such as diabetes and indicate how common medications -- from antibiotics and antidepressants to tamoxifen -- affect the eyes. The pros and cons of refractive surgery are discussed, as are the special problems of people with low vision.
An appendix lists medications used to treat eye conditions and the side effects of those medications. The book is fully illustrated with fifty-five line drawings and includes a symptoms index that will direct readers to sections of the book which describe the possible causes of the specific symptoms they are experiencing.
Customer Reviews:
Superbly Informative.......2005-05-25
I bought this book two years ago when my eyesight was failing. It described in detail using both text and pictures the cataract surgery I was to undergo, thus allowing me to be an informed patient. I recommend this book highly for anyone interested in educating themselves about eye health and treatment.
An intelligent and concise read.
Very Technical.......2001-08-26
This is a very encyclopedia-type of book. It has a lot of information about different eye problems and is a great book describing the functions of the different parts of the eye and what goes on at visits to the eye doctor. But it doesn't give alot of information on saving your sight, taking care of your eyes, remedies for problems or anything like that. The book claims to be "The Owner's Manual for your Eyes" but I don't think this to be very accurate. Its from 1998, but doesn't even include alot about laser surgery.
A Great Book.......2000-12-14
The Eye Book by Gary Cassel is extremely well-organized and easy to read. Anyone wanting to know how their amazing eyes work should read this book. It also conveys basic information about many eye diseases.
A good layman's guide for general eye information.......2000-06-04
The book is a good layman's guide to understanding the eye and the most common types of eye problems. However, the subtitle, A complete guide to eye disorders, is somewhat misleading. Many eye disorders are not covered. Only major disorders such as cataracts, glaucoma, ARMD, and diabetic retinopathy are discussed in detail. Otherwise, some other disorders are described at a high level in a few paragraphs.
Very easy to read and helpful.......2000-04-01
I am 65 years old and recently diagnosed with cataracts and glaucoma. This book was recommended to me by my eye doctor and was exactly what I needed to understand my problems. I also enjoyed the sections on the eye anatomy and exam. I highly recommend it.
Customer Reviews:
Great tasting and huge variety of recipes in this book........2007-06-11
This book has some fantastic recipes. There are very many to choose from. The one thing i feel is missing from this cookbook is the nutritional information. I like to know how many calories per serving, protein information, etc. This would have made it the perfect little cookbook. Still worth owning.
Down to Earth recipes with ingredients found in your pantry........1999-10-03
This cook book really is a classic. I checked it out from the library and found a lot of recipes that I could use without buying fancy ingredients. It's well rounded, even if you're not a vegetarian, it has great ideas for different meals.

Structure Modeling for ModelRR
Customer Reviews:
A must for every MR Hobbyist!.......2007-05-26
This is a gold mine of information, especially for the beginner. Little things mean a lot, especially with putting together a structure. You can take some or many of the tips & tricks shown in this book for a multitude of kit types, to make your buildings look more realistic. I was very pleased at Jeff's descriptions, his ideas, simple explanations, and pictures (lots o' those) on how to bring Model Railroad buildings "more to life". It doesn't get into a lot of the lighting, so you may wish to look for more on that elsewhere, but for everything else, this is THE REFERENCE BOOK TO HAVE.
So you want to be on the cover of model railroader?.......2007-05-17
If this is your goal then the book will serve as valuable introduction to the subject. It provides a great introduction to creating model structures that are more then "glue and glop" jobs. As someone who just entered into the hobby, I did not have a stack of back copies for either Model Railroader or Model Railroad Craftsman. Consequently, I did not have the knowledge to create fine structures at my disposal. Without purchasing this book I would have been subject to a great deal of experiential learning. Given the price of many structures, such a path would have got me in trouble with wife. This book saved me a huge amount of time and error, and got me to the point were I can create a very nice model. All in all, the price was justified by the store of useful information contained within the covers. So if you need an introduction to topic, get this work.

Book Description
The need for love begins with your need to love yourself.
Consciously or unconsciously, everyone is trying to enrich and improve their relationships in some way. Enriching our relationships is an art and a science. For this enrichment to happen'even before we can find and accept love'we have to love ourselves.
Through his experience in working with others to heal their pain, Dr. Gray has found patterns and messages that many of us received while growing up. These messages can keep us from loving ourselves'and from loving and receiving love from others. By exploring how these messages became ingrained in us while we were young and how we are using them today, we can change old patterns and thoughts about ourselves and others as well as create long-lasting, fulfilling relationships.
John Gray tells us that âLoving yourself in the presence of others means being able to express your inner gifts and talents without fear. When you don't love yourself and mask your real self, the cycle works in the opposite direction'decreasing love and true self expression.â
Read by the author.

Emotional Communications--4+ stars.......2006-10-14
This is a fun pop-psych book with some valuable insights, techniques for releasing negative feelings in relationships, & 100 author-drawn illustrative cartoons. It's a very fast read. His basic premise is that TACT ="Telling the Absolute Complete Truth" will free you from negative emotions. If you repress them instead, you experience "The See Saw Effect--When we push down a feeling, it comes up in our partner." This is an interesting take on projection & repression. The 3 methods to deal with these emotions are:
--Duplication: commonly known as mirroring-repeating what your partner says, ~active listening & role playing
--Anger Process--talking to yourself as if you were another person--calling yourself "you" in a mirror & expressing: 1. anger/blame--, 2. what you want, 3. positive/loving/supportive statements.
--Love Letter Technique--writing letters containing: 1. anger/blame, 2. hurt/sadness, 3. fear/insecurity, 4. guilt/responsibility, 5. love/forgiveness/understanding/desire & reading them to each other.
I think these are valuable in clearing out negative emotions in relationships, but there are assumptions affecting their applicability. Gray assumes love & goodness are underneath surface problems--clearing out anger etc. will reveal this. He is not addressing M. Scott Peck's "People of the Lie." Indeed, I think he's addressing people neither too undeveloped or too advanced. For example, Tibetan Buddhism has techniques to advantageously transforming emotions & Freud addressed sublimation. See Thubten Chodron's "Working with Anger" or Pema Chodron's works (e.g. "No Time to Lose"). Gray aims at couples/pairs not separate individuals. He assumes they have strong emotions needing expression--more extroverted than introverted--but employing his methods may expose hidden neuroses & complexes. Thus, his techniques are valuable at the Level of Abstraction he's addressing herein.
He also provides some valuable insights worth repeating:
"Many people confuse submission with love...A sure-fire way to kill the love in a relationship is to sacrifice your wants & needs in order to be loved by someone else. When you stop caring about yourself & your needs, there are no longer 2 people in the relationship. It's hard to be interested in nobody."
"When your heart is filled with love, life is like a big vacation" = Western Nirvana?
Of the cartoons, my favorite shows fishing for compliments from the love boat. Hilarious!
IMHO it's useful to realize that, like your thoughts, you have feelings, but you aren't your feelings.
AWESOME!! Simple but powerful. Funny!!.......2005-07-22
This book is so easy to understand, in a humorous way, the intricacies of our emotions. It is hilariously entertaining with cartoons drawn by the author. John Gray, in a playful yet insightful way, shows us all the different styles in which we repress our emotions and act in ways that are not straightforward. It also shows how we keep love from ourselves. I have used this book in my parenting work for many years as a map to emotional fluency for family health. It has been delightfully received as a work of art with some real tools on the road to emotional healing!! Thank you, John Gray!!
Very Very Good.......2003-08-10
This book is very helpful in understanding yourself and your partner. It is a very easy read and could be mistaken as too "simple" - but the beauty of this book is that it has taken some of the most complex feelings and reduced it to bite size ideas and adorable cartoons. I am a highly educated person and thought the cartoons were brilliant (BS, MS, JD) - some reviewers did not like them? Read this book more than once and learn a lot about relationships. I am really hoping to (educationally smart - relationship dummy).
EXCELLENT!!.......2000-10-31
This book is fabulous! It has very easy-to-understand examples and simple illustrations. I highly recommend this book to both men and women!
Simple, but insightful.......1999-12-16
While the cartoons can sometimes seem a little patronizing, the book actually has very good content. There are a lot of good suggestions for strengthening relationships. It is most helpful if both partners read the book.

A guide to enriching relationships
Product Description
6 audio tapes topics: How Feelings Transform Your Life! - How Are You Hiding Yourself? - How to Enrich Your Relationship! - The Heart Techniques
Book Description
John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham was the godfather of hard rock drumming - and he remains an idol to legions of Led Zeppelin and heavy metal fans worldwide. Although Bonham had to be courted away from more lucrative offers, he joined the newly formed band in 1968, helping guitarist Jimmy Page and vocalist Robert Plant create such famous songs as "Stairway to Heaven" and "Kashmir" until his sudden death in 1980 at the age of 32. His unmistakable drum patterns are among the most emulated and sampled by today's rock drummers. This book is the first biography focusing on Bonham, providing a detailed track-by-track analysis of his greatest recordings, 45 color photos, and the most detailed and accurate inventory ever of Bonham's drum kits and percussion equipment.
Customer Reviews:
A must for drummers!.......2007-02-01
My 16 year old son is a drummer and this is his favorite book.
LED ZEPPELIN or LUDWIG Fan's you'll love this.......2006-07-29
I've bought this book along with the "John Bonham" book by Mick Bonham (See my review there as well).
I mainly bought these books because i was always impressed by John's inovating and unorthodox style. And i was strongly reminded after hearing the CD "How the West was Won" and seeing the double-DVD simply called "Led Zeppelin", what a great drummer he's been.
This is the story of the Powerhouse behind Zep, The Ludwig endorser, The hammer on the Nail, The Man and the Machine. Here it is everything you always wanted to know about his idea's, his examples (if any), his technique, his drumkits from the green sparkle to the stainles steel and of course the Amber Vistalite, All the albums reviewed by proffesionals from '69 to '79. Descriptions of all his famous tracks or should i say tricks with sticks, his triplets, paradiddles etc. But also a story of how this magical quartet got together and how they made history. Robert Plant's quote says it all:
"Bonzo was the main part of the band. He was the man whatever Page and I wrote basically work, by what he held back, by what he didn't do to tempos. I don't think there's anyone in the world who could replace him".
A Must for Rock (drummer) fans
John Bonham.......2005-12-15
Anyone who is into John Bonham ( and what drummer isn't)should have a copy. Well written account of the man.
Reso Head.......2005-06-24
It's always interesting to find out what makes other drummers tick. This book offers plenty of insight into the legendary Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham; kit configurations, heads, tuning, etc., but not a great deal more than what you could generally surmise if you're a drummer who was influenced early on by Bonham's playing.
He used the Buddy Rich, Big Beat era kit and tuning, with coated Emperor heads, with the reso side tuned a third higher, so when the batter side is struck, the drum produces a nice, fat, resonant big bottom sound. Bonham was one of the first recognizable rock drummers to utilize a smaller kit comprised of very large diameter shells; 14" tom tom, 16" & 18" floors toms, and the trademark oversized 26" bass drum. Later, the "ching ring" on the hats would also become a Bonham signature.
As a youngster, I got my first kit in the early 80s, an orange sparkle Ludwig trap kit, and immediately set about mimicking the sound and feel of drummers who were in late 60s, early 70s bands: Ginger Baker, of Cream, Carmine Appice, of Vanilla Fudge, Paul Whaley, of the notorious LSD-guzzling Blue Cheer, and of course, Bill Ward, of Black Sabbath.
But if you're inspired by those sounds, what drummer wouldn't be influenced by Bonham's "Dazed & Confused" fills, or the bass-heavy stomp of "When The Levee Breaks," or the double and triplet bass notes in "Good Times Bad Times?"
Maybe he wasn't the most versatile drummer(like many good rock drummers, he was self taught), but his style, the sheer heaviness of the wallop he brought to heavy metal, and particularly to his "Moby Dick" solo's, more than made up for it. He's influenced more garage band bashers than anyone could count. His playing reflected a spirituality, and one which he took seriously, comparing misusing and neglecting drums to being just one step below child abuse.
I still play now more than ever, and have a couple of Bonham-sized Ludwig kits, one of which is done in green sparkle, as something of an homage to Bonham, who used that particular kit to record most of the Zeppelin records. "A Thunder of Drums" is a good book for fans or drummers in general. Let the free form flow...
A great book of his life.......2004-10-29
This book is very good. Eventhough it doesnt talk about all the members in led zeppelin it tells about the life of the great john bonham. I started to play drums because of him. The first time i heard kashmir and when the levee breaks i fell in love with the drums riffs. if you get this book you are getting your money worths
