Book Description
Grade 5-8-Covering 19 contemporary scientists in depth, and providing short profiles on over 100 more, this is a welcome and surprisingly readable account that successfully blends science and biography to engage readers. Shell interviewed the featured scientists, four of whom are women, with the intent to cover as many disciplines as possible. The profiles run five-to-six pages, each of which includes a photograph, a highlighted box of facts at a glance, a personal story to help readers understand a scientist's life, and information detailing the individual's field of work and discoveries. Each profile also contains an activity to help youngsters better comprehend the concepts presented and a mystery the scientist is currently trying to solve. The layout is crisp and easy to use. Each longer profile concludes with a short bibliography. The shorter profiles are useful as a starting point. The text is accompanied by black-and-white charts and diagrams that are sometimes too complicated for the age level, and small black-and-white photographs. This is a must purchase for Canadian libraries and is recommended to round out information about international scientists for libraries in the U.S.

Book Description
Today we are experiencing extraordinary technological advances in the diagnosis and treatment of illness while at the same time learning to take more responsibility for our own health and well-being. In this book, Saki Santorelli, director of the nationally acclaimed Stress Reduction Clinic, explores the ancient roots of medicine, and shows us how to introduce mindfulness into the crucible of the healing relationship. His approach revolutionizes the dynamics between the patient and the practitioner. In describing the classes at the clinic and the transformation that takes place in this alchemical process, he offers insights and effective methods for cultivating mindfulness in our everyday lives. As he reveals the inner landscape of his own life as a health care professional and we join him and those with whom he works on this journey of human suffering and courage, we become aware of and honor what is darkest and brightest within each one of us.

Profound little book.......2007-07-14
I've read this little book several times, getting more and more from it with each rereading. I've also purchased several copies for friends. I've had the pleasure of attending a 7 day workshop with the author, and he is as sincere and charismatic as he is in this book. What a gift!!
Healing in a deeper way.......2007-01-16
I've read many books on healing. This book addresses healing in a deeply spiritual manner that is very easy to read, understand and implement.
A poetics of meditation.......2003-10-30
I am just beginning graduate study in psychology, but I already consider this to be one of the truly indispensable books in the field. Saki is a brutally honest reporter of his own perceptions and feelings as he engages in the "healing relationship" as he teaches the MBSR program at UMassMed, and takes the reader deep into his view of what it means to "practice the healing arts", and invites us to consider the depth and meaning of our own journey into the field, as well as to begin our own journey into mindfulness.
See also "Full Catastrophe Living" by Jon Kabat-Zinn for a more practical, informational view of the MBSR program, and for the finest practical guide to mindfulness meditation yet written.
An extraordinarily poetic book about a pragmatic subject!.......1999-04-12
An extraordinarily poetic book about a very pragmatic subject - a way of working in any "helping field."
A guide for healers and want-to-be healers like physicians........1999-04-01
Not only a description of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, but a sharing of what the healing relationship is about. A poetic guide to being with people in a nourishing, honoring way that encourages self-healing. Very easy to read, loved the poetry.

Fun and inebriation abound between the covers of The El Paso Chile Company Margarita Cookbook. Running out of things to do with tequila? W. Park Kerr, founder of the El Paso Chile Company, offers dozens of drink (and a few food) recipes, each containing at least a little of the fiery elixir. From the Kentucky Club Margarita (the one we all know and love) to fancy margaritas containing Cointreau, Midori, and Curaçao, Kerr serves up drink ideas in an intoxicating Texas vernacular. Margarita 1 to 1 to 1--a blend of equal parts tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice--is touted as being tasty and easy to remember. "Although," Kerr warns, "if you're having memory problems, a cup of coffee might be the wiser choice." Any cocktail party worth its salt has snacks too, and a dozen or so tequila-imbued tapas and salsas are represented here. Try Grilled Chicken Tortas with Charred Tomato Salsa Borracho (which Kerr recommends eating outside, "at a table you can hose off afterward") for a delicious, if messy, accompaniment to your favorite distilled Mexican spirit. Spicy, alcoholic, and festive, The Margarita Cookbook is just the book to get your fiesta started. Cleaning up, unfortunately, is up to you. --David Kalil
Book Description
Margarita--the drink that's a party in a glass! Whip up an icy batch of America's favorite cocktail, spike the salsa with some tequila, too, and you're well on your way to a really good time, down-by-the-border-style. Now all you need is the perfect margarita, and happily, you've come to the right place. W. Park Kerr from the El Paso Chile Company brings you a hot 'n' cool collection of Margaritas and other tequila-boosted recipes for every taste and every lively occasion. Let the fiesta begin!
As fearless and creative at the bar as he is in the kitchen, W. Park Kerr knows there's more than one way to shake a margarita. In this book he tells the (tall) tale of the original margarita; introduces Margarita 101 for those just getting started; then boldly goes where few other cantinamasters have, offering Passion-Peach Margaritas, Frozen Watermelon Margaritas, and Pineapple Margaritas, to name but a few. If you like your tequila straight, follow his lead and add the zests of a few oranges, lemons, and limes to a bottle of your favorite brand. Let it steep for two days, then sip it icy cold from the freezer. ¡Excellente!

nice coffee table book.......2003-10-22
This is a gorgeous book, but it hasn't been as usefull as I was hoping. There are many odd kinds of margaritas in here, which is great if that's what you like. But there was only one regular margarita recipe, and it was the kind I was hoping for. If you just look up recipes online, you're more likely to find the recipe you're looking for, since this one only has about 10 recipes. But as a coffee table book, it's perfect!

Can't Drink the Photos.......2002-02-14
However attractive the pics may be, you can't shake them up on ice and sip them while the sun slips into the Caribbean. The test of any cooking or drink book is in the tasting, and this is one tasty little volume indeed. Liquid (the best Mai Tai ever) or solid (French Toast Brulee), these recipes are keepers. The book's inexpensive enough--buy two and tuck the spare away in a cupboard, for when the first one is worn out.
Delightfully distilled wisdom, from an expert host........2000-09-15
After all the gushing about the photos -- okay, they're great -- somebody needs to point out how good the recipes are! Park Kerr offers a wealth of information, in an easy-to-read format. With guests literally walking through the door, I was able to whip up a huge batch of frozen margaritas with next to no effort -- one guest, who has some expertise in these matters, can't stop raving about them -- "By far the best I've ever had," he says. (Kerr's secret ingredients made all the difference.) As with all good cookbooks, this one gives you loads of tips and tricks that make a good recipe ten times more interesting and fun. You get clear explanations about the various grades of tequila, so there's no confusion when you're facing a dizzying array of bottles at the liquor store. All in all, a tight, concise, well-informed guide that is presented with real panache. It's the next best thing to crossing the bridge to Ciudad Juarez, headed for the Kentucky Club on a Friday night. Hats off to Park Kerr, and, yes, a tip of the lens cap to Duane Winfield.
Great pictures--great book.......2000-06-06
I just love cookbooks and this is by far one of the best I've seen in ages. The photographs are what got me to buy this book--This Duane Winfield guy is one talented man---does he have any other books out? Sure hope so!

Dwarf Rabbits make wonderful pets for children. This book presents information on what you need to know before purchasing a rabbit and its history; housing and care; and establishing a mutually beneficial relationship. Here too are tips on protecting dwarf rabbits from household hazards, and much more. Hardcover / 180 Pages / 6 5/16 x 8 15/32 / 1997
Customer Reviews:
Should definitely read before getting a dwarf bunny.......2004-12-25
The book's design and photos are very pleasing (& very cute!). The author offers much useful and easy to understand advice. If you're looking into getting a bunny or just became an owner of one, I highly recommend this book because it will make you & your bunny's lives easier. It gives you tips on how to bond with your bunny, what to do and what NOT to do with him/her. I made the mistake of not having read this book before raising my bunny. I did things that I thought were completely normal to do (I have 2 very small dogs & have had many animals before) but were totally inappropriate when it comes to rabbits. Just being caring and loving is not enough. You need to learn to care and love the right way to ensure a happy and enjoyable life for the both of you.
Dwarf Rabbits.......2002-06-11
I read the paperback edition, which I enjoyed immensely. The information is presented in a way that is easy to read and understand. The pictures are precious! The cutest rabbit in the world is on page 9, a purebred Thuringian dwarf. I wish I could find a rabbit like that one! If you read this book, you will definitely want a rabbit for a pet.
Unfortunately I was late!.......2000-01-26
I am sorry that I did not buy this book before I bought my rabbit. I wish I had read it before doing so many mistakes. I recommend you to read this book before buying this lovely creature, at least not to hurt it against your will.
This book helps you get started with your rabbit........1998-12-10
This book helps you get off to a great start with your new rabbit, great clor pictures and easy to read. I loved the pictures and the information was valueble to me I am now looking forward to buying my first rabbit this has helped me feel more confident about my decision.
A most informative read!.......1998-11-14
The color pictures are lovable and this book is simply brimming with information about how to take care of dwarf rabbits. Each section is informative and comprehensive. It certainly provided me with plenty of tips on rearing my dwarf rabbits.

Extremely thorough and beautifully designed, Melt & Pour Soapmaking features dozens of luscious soap projects, with directions explicit enough for the novice and ideas sophisticated enough for the practiced soap maker. Accomplished craft designer Marie Browning (author of Beautiful Handmade Natural Soaps) explores a wide variety of technique variations, from chunk style and layered to additives, embeds, embossing, and hand milling. Slice a marbled soap at angles for the look of rock crystal; make delicate petal slivers using a silk rose petal as a mold; blend fragrance oils to yield the scent of sea mist or the power of Zen spice. Besides all the tempting bars, balls, and molded shapes, there are recipes for bath salts, massage oils, sachets, potpourris, and dusting powder. Pamper yourself with these indulgent creations, or if you can bear to give some away, follow the lovely packaging ideas or assemble gift-giving collections of related items. --Amy Handy

Customer Reviews:
Nice Overview.......2007-07-03
I really enjoyed this book. It's great for a beginner and is not overwhelming. There are instructional pictures in the front of the book and lovely pictures of finished products throughout. The back of the book also has a nice section on complimentary fragrances and groups the various recipes into families, which makes it easy to see which soap compliments which bath bomb, etc. There are also some nice ideas on packaging. I would definitely recommend this to someone just starting out.
Overall great book, but inconsistency on natural ingredients and fragrance oils.......2007-05-16
Having never made soap before, and even though I would like to try it from scratch (with lye) someday, reading up and experimenting on melt and pour was a helpful experience that helped me understand enough to read about using lye without being overwhelmed with too much information at once. Plus, I live in an apartment and sometimes melt and pour is simply more practical.
One of the best qualities of this book is the beautiful pictures, not only for the finished product, but pictures of the different processes as well. The package ideas are also beautiful and well presented. As a visual learner, I found that invaluable. For that, and the bath salt/bath bomb recipes, I would buy this book in a heartbeat should i need to replace it. The recipes are also pretty easy to follow.
My biggest complaint with the book is not the lack of a resource list (that can be overcome with a search engine, and maybe list specific books), but the persistent prevalent use of fragrance oils vs. essential oils in every recipe.
There are good explanations (with pictures), explaining the history and characteristics of soap ingredients. She even explains that the cost of some essential oils (due to protected plants, or simply the huge amount of plant material needed to make them) has made their use prohibitive, and so fragrance oil is often now used instead. However, the author then never bothers to explain that while fragrance oils have the same smell, they do not have the same herbal or therapeutic properties as an essential oil. This seems funny when there is a paragraph touting the benefits of making your own soap because of all the artificial ingredients in purchased soap. Even if you now have petroleum free soap, aren't fragrance oils synthetic?
Yes, some essential oils are simply too expensive in terms of cost, but there are some that are still quite affordable, and if the author is just thinking in terms of cost, it seems odd that there isn't some effort made to use a low cost combination of fragrance and oil. (e.g. a rose fragrance oil and lavender essential oil.) At least mentions of possible substitutions in the recipes would be nice.
The section on bath salts and bath bombs is excellent. The bath bombs do require citric acid, but everything else most people will already have in their kitchen.
I've always been interested in herbs and got more interested in essential oils in the home (and soap) after reading A Well-Kept Home : Household Traditions and Simple Secrets from a French Grandmother and The Scented Home by Laura Fronty and Yves Duronsoy, and The Herb Bible (though more for cooking) by Jenny Harding. With the information from those books, i think it might be easy to modify some of the recipes in melt and pour to be more natural.
Only other complaint is the sentence something like, "Do NOT EVER use flavored extracts in your soap," because. . . nope, there's no because, no explanation. . . does she mean because of the alcohol content? Is it because flavored extracts are different than distilled extracts? Does she mean because they're artificial flavors? (what if they're natural?) Is it because they're not oil based? Then what about water based toiletries? That sentence was not very helpful with no "why" explanation.
Those are my only complaints. Otherwise, i still enjoy reading this book (it's one you can flip through over and over for ideas) and would highly recommend it for learning melt and pour soap making techniques.
Good overview with nice colour pics.......2007-01-18
This is a good intro & overview book with the basics on M&P technology and some recipies inside. Illustrations on the glossy paper are fine.
What it lacks is the details about raw materials to be and not to be used, it absolutely misses even the briefest chemistry info.
I would recommend it to soapmaking enthusiasts for home experiments, but not even for the small business. What is really strange as the writer runs exactly that kind of business which needs her expertise...
So I give 4 stars out of 5.
Melt and Pour gives great idea's.......2006-11-01
This is a great book with easy instructions for all ages. I purchased this for my grandaughter but would use it myself.
Good, basic book for easy hand-crafted soap.......2006-02-25
I found this book very helpful for basic techniques. One complaint, however: a list of resources would have been great. There are so many suppliers of melt and pour soap base that it's hard to figure out which soap base to buy. Recommendations would be a real boon. Some other resources for fragrances, essential oils and especially colorants would also be a desirable addition.

Fun Soaps.......2007-05-14
Some easy and fun ideas for soap making. Well worth the price - you get a lot for your money here.
Fun in the Tub!.......2005-01-05
This book is wonderful for teaching kids a new craft. You use basic melt and pour glycerin base that's bought at a craft store, and tons of other items to make a unique bar of soap. This book has recipes for dog soap (soap to wash your dog with), soap balls that look like eyeballs and happy faces, alaphabet soap that you use cookie cutters to cut out the letters, soaps you put small toys into, and moldable play-dough type soap. I really liked making the moldable soap for my friends who had children who hated taking baths. You'll also learn how you can paint designs onto the soap with candle/soap paints.
All of the instructions are very easy to read and easy to follow so kids can't make a mistake. Toward the end of the book, an 11 year old describes how she turned a present into a hobby. She found that her soapmaking kit was so fun to use, she decided to sell her soaps to people and turned it into a business! She explains how other kids can do the same and what stuff they'd need for it.
Overall, Soapmaking: 50 Fun and Fabulous Soaps to Melt and Pour is a wonderful book for kids and adults that want to learn how to make homemade soap.

Keeping Your Family Together When the World Is Falling Apart.......2001-11-04
Kevin Leman is my absolute favorite writer of self help books for families. This Book is a real gem! It is very well organized and the information is super practical. Kevin's humor always makes reading his books as pleasurable as they are informative.
This book was and continues to be a real help. I go back to it often. I am very glad my sister Susie bought it for me. Thank-you Susie!
Book Description
Lita -- see her just once in the ring and you can never forget it. The breathtaking off-the-top-rope fearlessness that she shows keeps you on the edge of your seat. You simply can't believe she's going to be able to pull off the move, and then Lita takes it to the next level. That's her reality, that's why she is a WWE Superstar.
Taking unexpected risks, daring to do what no one has done before, that's the reality of Amy Dumas, the remarkable woman behind Lita. Amy found people who saw her determination and her heart, and agreed to train her. Among them were two local North Carolina stars who had just signed with WWE -- Matt and Jeff Hardy. Amy formed an instant bond with the dynamic Hardy Boyz, whose spectacular style and high-flying bravado inspired her own bold in-ring style.
It wasn't long before Amy -- now Lita -- joined Matt and Jeff in WWE, and the three friends become international sensations as Team Extreme. Lita proved a true pioneer in women's wrestling, daring to get in the ring with the boys -- including Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock® -- and never backing down. It took a broken neck suffered on the set of a television series to stop her...but only temporarily. Lita: A Less Traveled R.O.A.D-The Reality of Amy Dumas is the stirring tale of one young woman's amazing journey to the top of the wild, wonderful world of WWE.
Customer Reviews:
A must for Women's wrestling enthusiasts.......2007-03-31
This is a credible and important biography of a woman who played a part in wrestling's surge to national popularity. Amy Dumas really did come out of no where to become a household name. From strip clubs to mexican rings to minor valet status, Dumas crafted her talent and charisma to develop the character Lita. Not even a serious neck injury, which she suffered acting and not wrestling, has stopped her. This book, along with Fighting Girls, are the two best books dealing with women's wrestling that I have read.
Created a fan.......2006-07-20
Before reading this book, I'd been a wrestling fan for 10+ years, reading various autobiographies, most of which were "Oh, I love wrestling, I'm a wrestler, I don't like eggs, bye.". This book is different to anything you expect it to be -- it's better. At first, I wasn't too sure about getting it, but I had spare money one week and decided "what the hell". I picked it up as soon as it arrived, opened the first page and decided to skim through it.. but it sucks you in, you HAVE to read it all. I didn't sleep for one night and read it all in one sitting. It's gripping.
It tells of the times when she was a child, feeling like an outcast, being brought in by a music genre and their family, the days that she was so hard up for cash that she had to go dumpster-diving, her job as a stripper, the only job she could manage without fixed hours or pay that she needed to do as much training to wrestle as possible, all up until her neck injury and rehab, the book was released shortly after the rehab, I believe. This book is captivating in every way, she is a beautiful, strong woman, strong willed, and doesn't come off as the least bit light headed. She tells of how she was mistreated by family as a child -- it's in no way the uplifting happy-happy book of the century, but it has it's ups and downs, but it's an honest tale of a woman's life, her quest to reach every goal that she wants to accomplish. I strongly suggest you buy this book - you will not be dissapointed.
I wasn't a fan before, but I am now. The WWE are fools for not letting her unleash her true talent.
Inspiring? Great book? Are you guys insane?.......2006-07-18
HORRIBLE!!! Very slow, vey boring, and I walked away from this thinking Lita has got to be one of the stupidest people on the planet. Pathetic.
inspiring.......2006-07-14
Lita's life story is very inspiring the way she remained true to herself throughout her entire life.I think she is one of the most talented female wrestlers today. In the book she tells every part of her life very bluntly and keeps the entire book very exciting.Over all it is a great read for any WWE fan
One of the best books ever written.......2006-01-07
I began watching wrestling a little over a year ago and I fell in love with Lita she is so awesome. I got the book this December for christmas it was really good. The others are right it feels like you are actually there with her following her through her life as if you are a friend. I usually don't like biographys but this one was really good. Of course you would have to like Lita aka Amy Dumas to enjoy it. I definitely recommend this book.
