Book Description
For more than 50 years, Yitzhak Rabin, Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Israel, had a direct impact on the political, social and economic fabric of the Jewish State. Unfortunately, from the time that Rabin joined the Palmach, until his assassination in 1995, he accumulated one security failure after another.
Even so, most people view the late Israeli Prime Minister and Defense Minister and the Chief-of-Staff during the Six Day War of 1967 as a wise and courageous leader. In The Rabin File - An Unauthorized Expose, Dr. Uri Milstein delves into Rabin's military performance - from his early involvement in the militia in 1941 to his assassination in 1995 - and reveals for the first time Rabin's controversial security biography.
By vigilantly investigating Rabin, presenting him as a personified reflection of the political and military culture of the State Israel, this riveting and thought-provoking book explains how little children were able to chase the mighty Israeli Defense Forces from the Gaza Strip; how the Hizbullah defeated the IDF in Southern Lebanon; and how Israel turned from a strategic ally of the United States to an American economic burden.
Dr. Milstein researches the principles of military philosophy and war as a means of understanding the behavior of individuals and their civilizations. As a writer and a historian he is neither bashful nor deterred by controversy. His provocative studies and books on the Israeli War of Independence, the Yom Kippur War and the Israeli Paratroopers have earned him much publicity in Israel and abroad.

SOBERING.......1999-07-14
"As someone that was spellbound my the mystique of Yitzhak Rabin, I can guarantee you that THE RABIN FILE can be a very sobering book. As a resident of Jerusalem...I'm living with the consequences of his many blunders."

potential classic historiography and far-reaching appraisal.......1999-05-06
This book could and should be read as a sample of a very important revision and as such as a piece of far- reaching historiography. It shows the pivotal role myth making plays in contemporary politics and highlights the need for a search for truth and how far actually this has been lacking. Implicitly the reader can detect the degree to which superficiality has taken over from properly founded research in the creation of standardised interpretation. Therefore the book, as an expose, is something special academically. It is a product of the willingness to question 'orthodox' opinion and to research in detail and to document fearlessly. Therefore author and publisher are to be congratulated on being willing to allow scholarship to advance by the production of a book that spells out in no uncertain terms just what may well be the terrible truth about the 'real' Rabin. In the light of the eulogies about him this brave appraisal is all the more important. Truth is a casualty through death as well as war: President Kennedy's status changed as a result of his assassination and the same to some degree may be true of Rabin. But this change may be anything but beneficial for the way in which Israel runs its democratic processes and understands its position vis a vis its neighbours' intentions. With Rabin neither the master strategist nor 'Mr Security' much is open to question and needs to be. This book starts everyone thinking differently. And it does so with diligence and thoroughness.
a harsh and unsparing portrayal of Rabin.......1999-04-15
Uri Milstein is unique among the new historians because his focus on the events of the War of Independence also pays major attention to Yitzhak Rabin's conduct and leadership. The same commander receives much less attention from the other new historians. This book portrays Rabin harshly and unsparingly as a weak-minded uncultured chain-smoking drinker, and as a coward who was promoted despite his many leadership failures in battle. In writing such a deep-level criticism of Yitzhak Rabin (a new martyr and an internationally famous symbol of Israeli-Arab peace agreements), Uri Milstein takes on a deeply entrenched Israeli Labor party political-academic myth-defending juggernaut. Whether he has written the truth or not might be disputed, but there is no question that Milstein's career has suffered as a result of his negative Rabin appraisals. This book deserves reading and attention unless its claims can be disproven by other historians...which so far as this writer knows, has not occurred. In the book Uri Milstein does write about denials and threats by other scholars and political figures to sue him for libel...but according to Milstein, such suits were never brought to court. It may be that denials were issued, and negative realities ignored, in order to protect Rabin's legend. In his book, Milstein provides not one instance (Rabin's commonly-known collapse in the Six-day War), but a pattern, of Yitzhak Rabin collapsing mentally or taking naps during military crises or of his fleeing from battle when things turned to the worse (leaving his men behind under the most desperate circumstances). According to Milstein, Rabin's failures were covered by his fellow Palmachnics for the sake of their own political and military survival, even as they themselves felt perplexed by his lack of leadership. If anything, this book raises an alarm by showing the possible dangers to a nation brought about by a political myth-making apparatus which turns a human being into a legend or symbol. In order for such a symbol or myth to exist, truths must be ignored or forgotten. If what Uri Milstein has written is true, it is also probable that much of Israel and the world would not want to hear about it.
Excellent book. Brings to light the real character of Rabin........1999-04-09
In this book, "The Rabin File", Dr. Milstein shatters the myth of Yitzhak Rabin, "Mr. Security" - the nickname that brought him to power in the '92 Israeli elections. Almost everyone who follows Israeli and middle eastern politics wonders what brought "Mr. Security" to sign the Oslo agreement that took Israel back to the days of the war of independece in 1948. It is even more preplexing if we consider the political background of this move which is the defeat of the IDF (the Israeli army) by the hands of stone throwing children of the Arab "Intifada". Milstein's book starts us on the path to the explanations of these two events.
"The Rabin File" is a biography of Rabin. It begins with Rabin's childhood as an unwanted child of an extreme communist agitator in Haifa. It continues to describe Rabin's career as an officer in the Hagana (the jewish semi-underground defense forces during the days of the British mandate in Palestine) where he distinguished himself as a reliable tool in the hands of the leaders of the jewish institutions who used him for actions against the opposition. To them (his leaders) Rabin most important characteristic was his total misunderstnding of military issues and his servility.
Dr. Milstein then describes the battles in which Rabin participated or commanded. The climax is the story of a convoy to Jerusalem which Rabin commanded. When the convoy entered an Arab ambush Rabin fled for his dear life. The rest of his brigade's operations he commanded from a safe distance, usually in his HQ in Jerusalem.
Dr. Milstein uses Rabin's biography to demonstrate the character of the IDF and the general "survival principle" that he develops more deeply in his other books. But even without any knowledge of this principle, this book is most important as it brings to light the real character of Rabin, creator of the Oslo agreement. I can hardly wait for the second part of Rabin's biography that will cover his life from '48 till his murder in '92.

As any reader will discover, I have described in detail the military activities of Rabin, including his flight from the battlefield as a brigade commander in Israel's War of Independence in 1948, and argued that Rabin knew nothing about army reality and the military ethos, and that he had actually failed in all his activities in this area. The most dramatic vindication of my argument was provided by his very assassination: half a year after his murder, a National Inquiry Commission headed by Supreme Court Justice Me'ir Shamgar determined that the General Security Service, whose responsibility it was to protect the Prime Minister, had failed in its performance, and that the entire intelligence apparatus and the system for ensuring the Prime Minister's safety had been woefully flawed. Prime Minister Rabin was directly in charge of the activities of the GSS, so that this awful failure was not only that of then-head of the GSS, Carmi Gillon, but of Rabin himself. Which means that Yitzhak Rabin was one of those responsible for the success of his murderer. I said this in the Israeli media immediately after his assassination. The result: my book about Rabin was banned in Israel, the bookstores refused to carry it, historians and intellectuals refused to relate to it and to discuss it in the newspapers, on the radio or on TV, my employ at Bar Ilan University and the College of Judaea and Samaria was terminated, and I could not secure any position in any Israeli university. From that time on, I have had no permanent employment or steady income. This attitude towards me supports one of the main theses of the theory that I have developed in my work, "The General Theory of Security -- The Survival Principle" (which also appeared in English( namely, that the security setup has become a religion, and most people regard army generals as superior God-like personalities immune to criticism. Thus, the security framework is anti-intellectual; processes of drawing practical lessons and correction of errors do not exist in it, and it functions at a dangerously low level. These shortcomings became apparent in the American army in the Vietnam War and in the Soviet army in Afghanistan, and have now surfaced in the IDF in its war with the Hizbullah in South Lebanon. Conclusion: Only our ability to critically analyze the performance of generals and statesmen like Yitzhak Rabin can enable us to understand the military ethos and army reality, improve the security systems of the democratic countries, and avert the danger of terrorist activity that makes use of nonconventional means, which, more than any other factor, poses a threat to Western culture. Intellectual fun fan.......2003-09-23
THE WOUNDED JUNG by Robert C. Smith might be the book that the average reader of Jung's works wanted someone to write, simplifying the concepts that made it so difficult for the tormented Jung to write himself. "By the age of four he had incorporated into his psyche the sophisticated and frightening concept of the underground man-eater dream, closely associated in his case with the burial of the dead." (p. 21). The Notes for the entire book are on pages 179-181. These are so short, it might be ironic that Chapter 3, Note 2 is simply, "Although Jung had never met Miller, he took her fifteen-page report of dreams and visions, published in Geneva in 1906, and expanded it into a book of more than four hundred pages." (p. 180). The key to such authorship is clearly based on having a mind which has been caught in the same web, as is also true on the intellectual side of the picture. "Jung was interested in a variety of philosophers and religious mystics, and upon close examination, one can see that the experiences of these philosophers and mystics paralleled those of Jung. Swedenborg, the great Swedish mystic, clearly engrossed Jung for this reason." (p. 104). Anything which triggered "the divided parts of his own psyche" (p. 2) helped him appreciate "that the approach to the numinous is the real therapy" (p. 3).
A major emphasis on Jung's father is that he "had been unable to secure an academic position. Hence he became the minister to a series of small country parishes." (p. 13). In a world where most people seem condemned to be spectators, Pastor Jung faced those who worshipped each Sunday with his suggestions for staying out of trouble, and he told his son, "Be anything you like except a theologian." (pp. 14, 32, 33).
Jumping ahead in the book to the relationship between Jung and Freud, Smith mentioned a letter on page 34 about a traumatic incident in Jung's childhood, which "Jung kept the memory of the assault secret from all except Freud until old age." (p. 34). A lot more can be learned from the letter from Jung to Freud dated 28 October, 1907, in which Jung admitted that he would "rather not have said" how much he was in awe of Freud. "Actually--and I confess this to you with a struggle--I have a boundless admiration for you both as a man and as a researcher, and I bear you no conscious grudge. So the self-preservation complex does not come from there; it is rather that my veneration for you has something of the character of a `religious' crush. Though it does not really bother me, I still feel it is disgusting and ridiculous because of its undeniable erotic undertone. This abominable feeling comes from the fact that as a boy I was the victim of a sexual assault by a man I once worshipped." Jung was astute in allowing himself to confess this to Freud as a confirmation of many of Freud's beliefs, as well as indicating Jung's trauma from a personal incident that might be generalized politically.
Chapter 2 of THE DESCENT OF MAN by Charles Darwin is called On The Manner of Development of Man from some Lower Form, in which a HISTORY OF GREENLAND by Cranz is quoted on the belief of the Esquimaux "that ingenuity and dexterity in seal-catching (their highest art and virtue) is hereditary; there is really something in it, for the son of a celebrated seal-catcher will distinguish himself, though he lost his father in childhood." Our devotion to intellectual, spiritual, and political leadership might follow genetically, if it is understood that modern people, largely reduced to being spectators, worship anyone who has kindled a spark to seek the ultimate prize. Frankly, Jung's trauma reminds me of "Ernst Roehm, Minister of the Reich, one of the founders of the Nazi Party, and Chief of Staff of the SA." (Max Gallo, THE NIGHT OF LONG KNIVES, p. 2). On December 31, 1933, Roehm had received a letter from Adolf Hitler thanking him for "the force which allowed me to wage the final battle for power," and as leader of the "SA to assure the victory of the National Socialist Revolution on the domestic front, . . . and the unity of our people." (Gallo, p. 7). Roehm was among those killed between Saturday, June 30, 1934, and Monday, July 2. A speech by Hitler on Friday, July 13, 1934 to the Reichstag meeting in the Opera House made Roehm a scapegoat for everything that Hitler had attempted to rid himself of. "The life the Chief of Staff and a certain number of other leaders had begun to lead was intolerable from the point of view of National Socialism. The question was no longer that he and his friends had violated every decency, but rather that the contagion was widespread, and was affecting even the most distant elements." (Gallo, p. 9). As much as this seems ruthless, Smith was able to see this trait as common. "Both Jung and his mother tended to personify aspects of the self. Frequently in his autobiography he refers to the ruthlessness of his mother's No. 2 Personality. But he too, as he acknowledges at the end of MEMORIES (356), could be utterly ruthless at times." (Smith, p. 27). The Retrospect which starts on page 355 of MEMORIES, DREAMS, REFLECTIONS by C. G. Jung pictures himself more as a spectator. "I stand and behold, admiring what nature can do." (Jung, p. 355). "People who see nothing have no certainties and can draw no conclusions--or do not trust them even if they do. I do not know what started me off perceiving the stream of life." (Jung, pp. 355-356). "I was able to become intensely interested in many people; but as soon as I had seen through them, the magic was gone. In this way I made many enemies." (Jung, p. 357).
A brief but substantive, sympathetic C.G. Jung biography.......1998-11-06
Carl Jung's character has taken quite a shellacking of late in new biographies by Richard Noll. In contrast, Smith's book is sympathetic both to Jung's cause--the healing journey toward wholeness he termed "individuation"--and to the deeply disturbed, dissociated psyche that relentlessly drove Jung, both personally and professionally, toward the fulfillment of his destiny: his "daimon." Smith focuses on Jung's relationships with his parents, arguing that it was mainly Jung's ambivalent feelings toward his mother--not his father, as most biographers believe--that most powerfully influenced his peculiar psychic development. Smith also emphasizes the famous Freud-Jung friendship, and its daimonic character, noting that both men had enormous stores of repressed anger or rage which both drove their prodigious creativity and caused serious interpersonal difficulties. Smith's brief biography, despite its limitations, perceptively illuminates in ways others have not the darker side of C.G. Jung--his repressed rage--and in so doing, deepens our understanding of and compassion for the daimonic Dr. Jung, and, hopefully, our own daimonic qualities.

Book Description
The psychoanalytic writings of Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) are well-known and biographies of every hue have been published. But what was Jung like in his workaday analytic sessions, and how did he interact with his clients, colleagues and friends on a daily basis?
Catharine (Katy) Cabot, an American in Europe, was a patient of Jung's and also a part of his Zürich circle from the 1930's through the 1940's and she recorded the details of her sessions with him along with other inner and outer events. "Onkel" (Uncle), as Jung became to her, and his family and his friends, all were a part of her life in those years.

Jung, My Mother and I.......2002-06-21
This book is a breakthrough in the category of books about Jung. Based on the careful notes of her analysis, handed to her daughter during the last of her life, Katy Cabot depicts a human, warm, gossipy side to the great psychologist. The result is an example of how he adapted himself to a young extraverted American ex-patriate socialite who sincerely wanted to grow. The plight of her young and only child [the author] is told with remarkable restraint, given the lack of concern of the mother, as she traveled from hotel to hotel and country to country. We get glimpses of that child's perception of Jung, as well and she grew up to become a Jungian analyst herself. Fascinating glimpses into Jung's opinions of his wife, Toni Wolf, and the many members of the Analytical Psychology Club in Zurich in the 30's and 40's! A super book.
Book Description
What do young people at the threshold of adulthood really need and want? Why do so many responsible and motivated teenagers become young adults who are still dependent, financially and emotionally, on their parents? Why are many young people today so quick to leave childhood behind, but so slow to become adults? In this wise and compassionate book, Terri Apter debunks outdated and misguided ideas about maturity: Acting in the name of love, many parents withdraw emotional or practical support, thinking it best for a son or daughter to solve his or her own problemseven to suffer alone the consequences of mistakes. Apter shows us that young adults actually need a parent's guidance and support, while also requiring respect and independence. Based on carefully observed case studies and current research, this book describes how we can support young people through a crucial stage in their development.

Great Book for Parents Who Wonder Why Their Kids Are Taking So Long to Mature.......2007-07-09
Some kids seem to be taking forever to mature these days. It's as if all they want to do in their 20's is chill and hang and do nothing. This book explains many reasons why this is so, why kids have more problems maturing and take a lot longer, and why parents need to continue emotionally supporting and trying to understand them, often in the face of the kid's hostility or "I don't care" attitude. If you buy this book, and I recommend it highly, don't forget to read the introduction, which is almost a summary of the book. Lastly, Ms. Apter oftens cites a situation and then says "here's what the kid says" and then "here's how the parent responds". I found my self saying time after time "that's exactly how I would respond as a parent." Beforewarned that Ms. Apter is advocating for a different response from the one I would usually give to the child. This is not an uplifting book. But a very necessary one. But there don't seem to be many others like it on the market. Ms. Apter is so perceptive that I can't understand why it wasn't a best seller.
Essential reading for parents of teens and beyond!.......2001-12-28
I just finished reading Terri Apter's book about helping teenagers and young adults find their way in the world. I will be recommending it to all of our friends! Ms. Apter identifies common misconceptions about how young people "should" be treated while discussing the realities young people face and how they need to be treated. Many of her ideas about helping our children grow into successful (happy, well-adjusted) adults are very common sense and resonate with parents as things we want to do, yet feel society does not support. Apter's ability to provide examples as to why parents need to nurture their young adults is reinforced by her examples of what happens when young adults do not receive such support. As parents we must do what we feel is best for our children and reject the pressures of society to "let them go and learn from their own mistakes". Apter's Myth of Maturity is a great resource for parents.
A phenomenally insightful book.......2001-12-16
The Myth of Maturity is a must read for any parent of any older teen or young adult. And, I would recommend that young adults read it as well. It includes sound advice, interesting case studies and Terri Apter's usual perceptiveness. I hope this book gets the recognition it deserves.

Just in the nick of time.......2001-07-02
This book was so appropriate for our situation with our college age daughter. I found the book to be one of the few written specifically for this age group. I have loaned it to two friends who are having problems with their 20+ year old offspring. So many things are written about the teenage years, that you assume after that is over that "maturity" and development is accomplished. I am looking now for other books written by this author. Highest recs!!

This is a beautiful book with plenty of photographs. The recipes are Southern Inspired, but with healthy ingredients (not so much butter and fat as traditional recipes). It is worth the price just for the BBQ Ribs recipe - they are divine! Lots of great menu ideas. It features recipes from several famous chefs in the area. Very worthwhile if you are looking for some ideas for regional cuisine.

A Cat Lover's Dream.......1998-09-22
This book is a wonderful example of one person's idea of what the world is like through a cat's eyes. A must have for cat lovers and history lovers alike.
This book is very well written and realistic in my opinion........1998-09-01
This book is very well written for many reasons. First, it is very lifelike in that when you read it you feel like the characters are real and that these events really took place. The good thing about this book is that just because these specific people and events are fictional, this book still you let you know the harsh realities of life in Hollywood and that everyday these kinds of things happen. People come and go in that industry. When you are felt to have lost step you without every expecting it are kicked to the curb. This book is the kind that keeps you wanting to read more and more because of the continuous drama that leaves you at the edge of your seat.
This book also has its down points. Some of those are that the book is somewhat gruesome in the way it depicts death and in the way it commercializes death itself. Those who are weak at heart would find it hard to read this book.
This book in some ways is comical. The way the dead loved ones are used as a way to show love and that the way a cosmetician uses the dead loved ones as a type of art. The book is also a good love story. It does not portray love the way most people would like to think of it. The fact of the matter is that most people don't just fall in love and get married and live happily ever after. In a relationship there is deception, anger, and sometimes like in the novel confusion as to what you really wants. Also, this book is really good because relationships can drive people over the edge like some of the characters in the novel. Also, when in relationships you always in one way or another feel a lust for someone else.
* In conclusion, I feel this book was very well written and very realistic. *

Straight up - no chaser!.......2007-10-01
Lonnice is an excellent writer. The book is funny and down to earth while being honest and straight forward. Lonnice kept me laughing with stories from her own experiences from the straightening comb to the jheri curl. She provides tips on shampooing, conditioning, as well as daily maintenance. I would have liked to have seen newer twist styles but you can buy "Let's Talk Hair" by Pamela Ferrell or "Texured Tresses" by Diane Da Costa, which are both great for that.
Good for starters.......2006-09-21
This is great book for starters. Even though she advocates texturizers, it is a good alternative. I recommend it to anyone considering wearing their hair in its natural texture. THe styles and car instruction that she recommends can be done on texturized and natural hair so the texturizers is not really a big deal.
Great starter book!!
This was a great book back in the day.......2006-09-19
I bought this book years ago, after I had lost the majority of my hair to a relaxer (which had happened several times up to this point). I was fed up and knew that I couldn't continue to relax my hair and keep risking breakage, but had no idea what my options were. One day I was browsing my local bookstore and happened upon this book. It saved my hair and my sanity. Finally someone was talking to me, telling me that I didn't have to keeping doing insane things to myself in the name of beauty.
Are there better natural haircare books out there? Of course. For the negative viewers, you fail to realize that back when this book was written, there weren't many books on the market related to natural hair care. Folks weren't as receptive to letting go of the relaxer. It was good for what it offered back in the day. The author has since evolved in her own natural haircare.
Lonnice, you're alright with me gurl - you helped me love my real hair!
Knowledgable and funny.......2006-06-13
I find it truely amusing that some of the reviewers out there criticize grammer, but forget to look at their own. They criticize spelling, but they don't use the dictionary. They criticize any black woman who writes a book on black hair care based on their own experiences, swear they know more, but then don't prove it by writing a book on black hair care based on their own experience. This books is a quick and informative read. It speaks to any woman who has been through the straightening combs, the grease, the burns, the chemicals...all for the sake of not just beauty. Believe me, it's not just about beauty. It's about ease of doing your hair everyday of your lives that looks good. And for those who feel justified in the "holier then thou" attitude for women who use chemicals to straighten their hair...get over it. Not everyone wants to deal with their natural hair. That is their choice. Oh, and by the way, have you not noticed how much advertising is aimed at white women's hair? Surprise...we're not the only ones that want what we're not born with. Overall, this is an excellent book. No, it does not hold your hands when it comes to going natural, but it does give suggestions. Ms. Bonner does not tell you to get a chemical (texturizer or otherwise), but it is an option she presents (your choice). Most importantly, she lets you know she's been there too and how and why she changed. Sometimes, it really is about the journey.
no good hair.......2006-02-28
Sistas, watch out for this book. it sneakily pretends to advocate embracing your natural hair, while advising you to chemically distort it to create the styles in the book. As if we can't wear our hair "down" without putting *some* kind of chemical in it. She should see my hair; it sure as hell look better than hers!
The good hair she portrays in the book is always "texturized" to give the looser, closer to European curl that we were encouraged to lust after from an early age. I am currently doing a degree that partly involves formulating products that alter the chemical structure of the hair. My course, and some of the real hair stories you see everyday have taught me this much:
1) Texturizing your hair is still relaxing your hair, it's just a case of relaxing the curl less.
2)None of these processes can change your actual texture, despite the misleading name. If your hair was coarse when it was curly, it will be coarse when it's straight. Why do you think our hair still looks different from white people's even when it's mad straight?
3) Furthermore, every nap wasn't created the same. If your hair has more of a zig-zag pattern than a curl, or has a looser curl, then the "texturizer" might actually straighten your hair , even if you leave it in just a few minutes. Some people think their curl is tighter than it is 'cause it has lots of texture (the kind of "grip" you feel when you rub your fingers down a strand), so the curls are real separate and look like a 'fro. Imagine the shock they get when a "texturizer" leaves them bone-straight.
Brittenum Bonner might preach one thing, but what she practices belies it. Her message is tainted with calcium hydroxide & does nothing to stop women maligning their own hair. Ultimately, it ends up reinforcing that same destructive lie that drives so many sistas to the caustic chemical "fix" in the first place.

A valuable reference!.......2002-02-20
As a divorce attorney with over 35 years at the bar, I've seen a lot of books written for people thinking about divorce - mostly focused on how to crush your spouse or select the meanest lawyer you can find. This book is different - the focus is on reducing the combat while maintaining a relationship despite the stress of divorce. I give this book to my clients at the first visit, and many have passed it along to their friends. I heartily recommend "How to Avoid the Divorce from Hell..." It may not save your marriage, but it can help you (and your spouse) survive the divorce with your sanity intact.

Practical, useful and well-written divorce guide.......1999-02-24
I'm a judge who has heard divorce and child custody cases for the past five years. A divorce attorney recently shared a copy of this book with me, as she has already been doing with her clients. I must say that it is an excellent book, full of practical suggestions for getting through a divorce while doing the minimum possible damage to your children. Chapter 11 is entitled "Courts and Judges." I wish everyone could read that before they come to court. It makes real for the parties how limited the court's ability will be to really do justice in your case, and why courts should be the very last resort, used only after you've genuinely tried to resolve matters on your own. Judges can never understand your family - they can only get a snapshot-type presentation. Sue Talia uses her 20 years of experience to make these limitations clear. She also provides tips for choosing good attorneys, evaluating settlements, keeping things in perspective, etc. It's a very good book, well worth the price.
Book Description
In the past eight-years, the face of popular culture has changed radically and with it, the music that will define the decade. Gone are the pop saturated songs of the 70's and 80's. Today's sound is a fusion of grunge, hip-hop, metal, hardcore and funk. Disparate sounds that together create something thoroughly modern and unlike anything we've heard before. No band embodies this musical melting pot more than Korn. With their frantic, no-holds-barred image and sound, Korn has jumped musical boundaries to be both Billboard chart toppers and a band with a loyal, obsessive following. -Their debut album, "Korn" went platinum and has sold millions-"Life is Peachy" debuted at number three on the Billboard charts-Korn's latest album, "Follow the Leader" has sold over two million copies and remained on the Billboard charts for over twenty-eight weeks. Elina Furman's in-depth look at the band's meager beginings to their breakthrough success with "Follow the Leader," their current multi-platinum album is a fan's ultimate guide.

Not that bad.......2003-05-27
It is a accurate but really long time KoRn fans would know most of the information in it, it may help maybe give more details to it but really all the book did was make what i knew from "unofficial sources" official and legit for my research paper on Jon Davis as a writer. If you are a parent who maybe curious about there child's favorite band that screams FAGET! real loud it's a good read. KoRn fans who care about little momentos like that I guess it's worth spending the ten dollars on the book because if KoRn is a band who you've supported from start and beyond it's kind of like a cool little item to show your dedication to the band. Hopefully after the next KoRn album a catch up version of this book will be written.
Nothing the Average KoRn Fan Doesn't Know.......2001-08-30
KoRn's been my favorite band for some time now and I try to read up on everything about them. Leah Furman's sketch of KoRn's career is everything it should be and it isn't bad, but provides very little insight or even opinion. The average KoRn fan has heard all of this from articles, interviews, and other KoRn fans. I was hoping for a more personal look into the band's lives, espeically Jon's, but instead I got just an overview I've heard a million times previously. But I guess Leah's rendition is about as personal and as insightful as it gets considering if the band or one of it's members decided to do an autobiography which I see being a very high possibilty someday. It's not like she was there very every moment. Everything she wrote about in this book she had read somewhere and that makes this biography very unadventurous to the average big time KoRn fan who has probably read from all the same sources as the author. This is more of a book I'd give my Dad to read when I'm finally fed up with him asking "What's with this KoRn business?" I also think the biography was written in a bad time. There's is much more to the story of KoRn that has already been written and will be written. Alot of this book was badly researched. Not anything dealing with KoRn, but when this book described the KoRn song "No Place To Hide" being nominated for the Grammy's it names the other nominees. And it refers to Tool's masterpeice "Aenima" as "Aenema" more than once as one of the nominees. Later in the book it also refers to Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba" as "Bamwitdaba." These writting errors are just irritating and are throughout this book. I guess it's not an overall bad read, but it's not overly exciting or informative.
Are You Ready?!?!?!.......2001-02-23
The book KoRn Life in the Pit by Leah Furman is a good book for anyone that is courious about the band. It's a good bio for the band , but not for the guys in the band.It does tell a little bit about the boring up brining in Bakersfeild for the guy. Mostly the frontman Jon Davis's home front. The book does a good job of details of the very beging of the bands that fromed KoRn like SexArt and Creep and up the band second album Life is Peachy. When the book reaches the time of the third album Follow the Leader. The book is a little old and only goes up to the first recordings of the guys fourth album also know as Issues.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Warfare in the Latin East, 11921291 (Cambridge Studies in Medieval Life and Thought: Fourth Series)
ASIN: 0520221273 |
Book Description
Although closely focused on the remarkable Hebrew First-Crusade narratives, Robert Chazan's new interpretation of these texts is anything but narrow, as his title, God, Humanity, and History, strongly suggests. The three surviving Hebrew accounts of the crusaders' devastating assaults on Rhineland Jewish communities during the spring of 1096 have been examined at length, but only now can we appreciate the extent to which they represent their turbulent times.
After a close analysis of the texts themselves, Chazan addresses the objectives of the three narratives. He compares these accounts with earlier Jewish history writing and with contemporary crusade historiography. It is in their disjuncture with past forms of Jewish historical narration and their amazing parallels with Latin crusade narratives that the Hebrew narratives are most revealing. We see how they reflect the embeddedness of early Ashkenazic Jewry in the vibrant atmosphere of late-eleventh- and early-twelfth-century northern Europe.
