The story of Baron von Richthofen, Germany's great war bird. Manfred von Richthofen was known as the Red Knight or, more commonly, the Red Baron due to the color of his plane. As a German aviator in World War I, he was attributed with eighty kills, or enemy planes shot down, and ended up being killed in action in 1918.

The Red Knight of Germany: The Story of Baron von Richthofen Floyd Gibbons, 1927.

To begin, I can honestly classify this title as simply an excellent read. Gibbons succeeds in giving a full recollection of the occurances during the life of Richthofen, and the respect the author had for Richthofen is apparent throughout the book. It is written with the same views that I believe the pilots of the time would have had pertaining to aerial warfare, or flight alone. The romantic aspects of flight, which were held in higer regard in the times of elegant, open cockpits and gallant pilots than it is today, the book unfolds in a more-than-satisfying manner the events leading up to, and including, Richthofen's time as an aerial fighter. The book includes excerpts from Richthofen's own accounts of the war, through letters to his mother, the official requests for acknowledgement for many of the victories he attained, and quotes. Certainly the book is worthy of much more praise than I am able to give in a short review such as this. For anyone even remotely interested in the early days of Aerial warfare, and of course of special interest to those interested in the history of Germany's Ace of Aces.

First isn't the best........2000-04-17

This was the first biography written about Germany's great WWI air ace,Manfred von Richthofen,better known as "The Red Baron".This book was originaly written in the 1920's and is rather dated.Several superior bios of Richthofen have been written since Gibbons wrote this one.The books main week point is the authors attempt to portray Richthofen as a cold blooded killer,which subsequent biographies have shown to be totaly false.One of the books strong points is Gibbons' interviews with some of the British flyers who were lucky enough to survive being shot down by Richthofen.Their stories are quite interesting.This book makes an entertaining read,but anyone interested in a more factual account of Richthofen's life should buy one of the more recent biographies.

Mary Carpenter's fascinating account of Temple Grandin's early life may be intended for children with learning disabilities. But it will make absorbing reading for all children. Every child will have experienced some of the discomfort of Temple's childhood, a childhood which Carpenter brings to life with vivid details. And what child could fail to be moved by the story of how Temple's personal antidote to autism, the squeeze machine, has improved the lives of the nation's millions of cows.

This book is really informative and interesting. All girls should have some knowlege of this before they get pregnant. I was considering another surgery, but think I will wait and weigh out my options. Especially since the author wrote about me to a T. And I don't want another surgery that either won't work or will cause me more problems in the long run.

Don't Waste Your Money on This Book.......2006-11-13

If you are looking for advice on dealing with this problem, don't bother with this book. Other than eating healthy and avoiding hysterectomy, it really offers no concrete ways to deal with the problem.

Great reference for any woman.......2004-04-16

A few years ago, I discovered that I had a prolapsed uterus. My usual inclination is to try to find natural therapies or remedies that will support my body and restore health, resorting to medical solutions as a last resort. When I tried to get information on this subject, it was next to impossible. When prolapse is mentioned in a woman's health book, the information is scant, and usually suggests Kegel exercises (which were discouragingly useless for me) or surgical intervention.

So, when I found this book while surfing the net, it was a welcome relief. It is packed with information on pelvic organ prolapse that you will not find anywhere else. The data regarding the structure of the pelvic floor and its relationship to a healthy and well-functioning body should be required reading for any woman with a body. :-D

The first couple of chapters dealing with pelvic anatomy and the musculature of the pelvic floor are very meaty, and as such, not always an easy read. However, there are good diagrams throughout that help to clarify the text.

Thank you Christine Kent sharing this information. It certainly fills a need and is much appreciated.

A Bobcat Tale.......2001-11-24

Ryden does an excellent job of combining a large number of facts about bobcats with an easy-to-read fictionalized story. Her facts about bobcats seem to be quite acurate, well-researched and documented. The story, like many about wild animals these days, is heavy on moralizing about hunting, trapping and the need for homo sapiens improvement in getting along with our fellow animals.
About the only caveat I have is I would not completely trust all her facts about the animals she mentions besides bobcats and coyotes. Her comparison of coyotes and bobcats, in fact, is possibly the best thing about the book. Personally, I found this better than "God's Dog" because it is more widely applicable and generalized, applying to a wider variety of geography and climate.
This book is a very good way to gain a lot of information about bobcats in an entertaining way.

Bobcat Year is a wonderful introduction to these interesting and mysterious cats. Unlike the other cats common to North American, not much is known or written about bobcats. Hope Ryden has written a very readable, fictionalized account of the lives of bobcats living in the high desert, which is based on solid research. If more people were aware of these small cats, we might be able to provide protection to them. As it is now, bobcats are considered little better than vermin, to be trapped and shot. I encourage the publisher bring this excellent book back into stock

I love Hawaiian applique. This book is a good value with about 15 patterns and good instructions. I was expecting more traditional patterns but this is a nice sprinkling of traditional and more "touristy" patterns. Cushions are a great way to start - Hawaiian applique is not an overnight project but a cushion almost guarantees that you will finish. I would have given it another star but it is not as good as a similar book by Dover (press?).

No Technique is More Effective Than This.......2007-03-11

I have studied hundreds of different techniques for releasing emotional negativity and trauma (both eastern and western). This book and the techniques within it are leagues ahead and more powerful than any others I have found.

If you are looking for happiness, release of depression, release of additictions, healing of past emotional trauma -- even letting go of big stuff like issues around childhood, deep grief, or anger/rage/sadness/depression ... then this book is your fastest path to getting there. The technique is easy to do and I found I achieved results in minutes/hours as opposed to months/years of psychotherapy or other techniques.

I have used this technique with great success for over 10 years, but it was only 3 years ago that I came across this book -- it is an iteration of the original concept of the people who developed/discovered the technique -- I like the Author's simplification of the process, and have found it to be just as powerful but a lot more simple than other iterations.

This author has given every person the gift of emotional healing. It does not require changing your beliefs (even if you don't think the process will work, it will). It does not require positive affirmations. It does not require months of processing and drama. It does not even require that much of your time (you can literally do a session in < 15 minutes...though it depends on what you are trying to release).

The only thing the reader must do is be willing to WANT to shift emotionally. That is a big step to take for many in our society who prefer to be unhappy rather than take responsibility for themselves.

I highly recommend this book be read and used immediately !!! I really hope it becomes a bestseller -- it should be one. It is a revolutionary process. It may very well put psychologists and psychotherapists out of business. If all of us used this technique, we could change the world.

Simple and Effective Method.......2002-03-17

The Emotional Freedom Technique described for self-help in this book is surprisingly effective for a wide range of problems. It is based in the fairly new understanding that negative emotional patterns are symptoms of disturbances in the energy merdians of the body. With EFT we can intervene and correct these disturbances and imbalances directly - at the energy level - through specific acupressure points. Since energy is then free to flow naturally, healing of emotional issues often leads to physical healing and an increased over-all sense of well-being.

Such claims of rapid emotional healing may sound too good to be true, as we come from an orientation of traditional counseling, congnitive, analytical, and 'reliving the pain' psychotherapies. However, these approaches are rarely as effective as we would wish. One only needs to try these new energy methods for oneself to discover their power to create quick and lasting results.

A Must Read...Motivational and Inspirational.......2007-01-03

Firstly this review is not intended in any way to be objective. I love the man who is Ronan Tynan, I love his voice and all that he has contributed to the world. Halfway Home is the story of a man who is passionate, driven, inspired and someone who refuses to beaten down in any way. He is a Maverick, who in this side-splittingly funny book, outlines just some of the things that he has done in his life. What makes this book special is that his accomplishments that are detailed in this are done so with such humility that it seems as if he is with you in your living room having a friendly chat. I met him a few weeks ago and he is just as funny and outgoing in person as this book suggests. One of life's true heroes.

This is one of the few books I've had trouble putting down. It's the story of an amazing man that I truly admire. I would recommend this book to everyone. Also his CD's and those of the three tenors are beautiful music to say the least.

Inspirational, heart-warming, friendly.......2005-11-29

Dr. Ronan Tynan has to be one of the most friendly, inspirational, and heart-warming people on the face of the planet. I'm convinced of it. For a man who has had to persevere as much as he has, his outlook on life, his accomplishments, and his stories are awe-inspiring.

I first learned of Tynan when I heard him sing "God Bless America" on TV. I was enthralled. I had never heard a voice so pure, so powerful, so emotional. His voice touched me, it caused goose-bumps. I immediately began to research, trying to find out about the man who had just amazed me so.

After reading "Halfway Home", I am even more impressed with the man. In every aspect of life, he has triumphed over odds and circumstances that would have buckled the average person. To be accomplished in so many ways, to have lived such a rich, full life, is a dream for which we all should strive. The blueprint for such a goal is in Ronan Tynan's approach to life, which is guided by kindness, decency, hard work, love, passion, and faith.

At times the book is a bit boring, as is nearly all biographical material, but the inspiration overcomes, just like Tynan. Add him to my short list of personal heroes.

In the book "Halfway Home-My Life til Now" Ronan talks about family and those whom he has met so far in his life. He also talks about the women he has slept with so far. Which I find appalling, and just plain bad taste. He should apoligize to the women he talks about in the book. I wouldn't let anyone under the age of 21 to read this book. Keep it away from children.

Inspiring.......2005-09-28

This is an inspiring book. I cannot overstate that. Ronan could have folded his cards and done nothing in the face of adversity. He could have just stayed inside and watched tv or something of that nature. Instead he did not even let it bother him at all. In fact he hurdled right over the adversities.
