Book Description
Donald Gazzaniga, diagnosed with congestive heart failure, was headed for a heart transplant. Urged by his doctor to keep his sodium intake "under 1,500 to 2,000 milligrams a day," Don headed for the kitchen and went to work devising recipes for delicious low-sodium dishes that added up to less than 500 milligrams daily. The results? Don's name has been removed from the transplant list, and Don shared his recipes with the world in The No-Salt, Lowest-Sodium Cookbook.Readers of that first book have kept in touch with Don via his Web site, and have written him letters asking for more. What they most often ask for is a book with more bread recipes, more recipes for cakes and cookies and muffins and tea breads, more of all those great baked things-in short, for the book you now hold in your hands. Don teamed up with his daughter, professional nutritionist Dr. Jeannie Gazzaniga Moloo, to fill The No-Salt, Lowest-Sodium Baking Book with recipes that are as healthy and delicious as possible. As in the previous book, they tell you just how much sodium is in each ingredient. They provide satisfactory substitutes for flavorings that patients with congestive heart failure and high blood pressure shouldn't have. All easy to make and delicious to eat. Go for it!

Sound Low Sodium Baking Advice.......2007-07-28
Overall good book, with good tips on low sodium baking, though if buying Donald Gazzaniga's "The No-Salt, Lowest-Sodium Cookbook", which is an ESSENTIAL for anyone serious about low sodium cooking, you can get away without owning this book.
book.......2007-03-02
Excellent book for those with CHF or even to just watch your salt intake. The recipes are easy to follow and jummy!
Don't waste your money.......2006-08-16
After spending a lot of money to buy the book and the ingredients for recipes in this book, everything I tried was a tasteless flop. You'll be better off to use regular recipes and just leave off the salt.
Thanks, Don!.......2006-01-20
What an asset! This is a must for anyone on a low-sodium diet.
It has opened many venues I did not consider.
A real life-saver for those lost in the confusion about low-sodium diets.
Nothing but the best!.......2005-04-07
Don Gazzaniga's recipes are unbelievable. This is one of the best baking cookbooks around and it's great for anyone even though it's targeted at people with heart problems. This is good stuff and you will just love the recipes.

This "celebration of food, friends, and healthy living" follows the Food Guide Pyramid recommendations of eating 5 or more servings of fruit and vegetables, 6 to 10 servings of grain foods, and 2 to 3 servings of protein foods daily, and limiting fats and sweets. The recipes are low in fat, high in nutrition, and often inventive. "Tapioca Fruit Pudding" is made with orange juice and vanilla yogurt instead of milk and eggs. "Stuffed Shells with Beef and Tomato Sauce" has only one-half pound of lean ground beef for 6 servings. All chicken recipes start with skinned chicken. Calories and fat grams per serving are provided, and many of the recipes are far less than the recommended maximum 30 percent fat. No esoteric ingredients are required.
The strange thing about this cookbook is that the illustrations are all black-and-white photographs of celebrities--screen and TV stars, an astronaut, athletes, models, etc., who contributed some of the recipes--not a food shot among them. You may love Tony Lama's boots, but is his head shot the best illustration for a recipe for Green Chile Rice Casserole? Despite the lack of food photos, this is a very useful book if you're trying to follow the pyramid and need some fresh and tasty recipes. --Joan Price

Recipes include cancer-causing foods!.......2004-12-01
This book includes CHARBROILING beef! What utter nonsense. There is no warning about the cancer-causing aspects of meat or charring flesh. I would never trust anything the American Cancer Society says. They are very biased in favor of expensive pharmaceuticals with cancer-causing side-effects. They are the wealthiest "charity" in America, with cash reserves of $1 Billion.
The Role of the ACS in the War Against Cancer
The verdict is unassailable. The American Cancer Society bears a major responsibility for losing the winnable war against cancer.
The launching of the 1971 War Against Cancer provided the ACS with a well-exploited opportunity to pursue it own myopic and self-interested agenda. Its strategies remain based on two lies -- that there has been dramatic progress in the treatment and cure of cancer, and that any increase in the incidence and mortality of cancer is due to aging of the population and smoking while denying any significant role for involuntary exposures to industrial carcinogens in air, water, consumer products and the workplace.
Most of the funds raised by ACS go to pay overhead, salaries, fringe benefits, and travel expenses of its national executives in Atlanta. They also go to pay Chief Executive Officers, who earn six-figure salaries in several states, and the hundreds of other employees who work out of some 3,000 regional offices nationwide. The typical ACS affiliate, which helps raise the money for the national office, spends more than 52 percent of its budget on salaries, pensions, fringe benefits, and overhead for its own employees.
Salaries and overhead for most ACS affiliates also exceeded 50 percent, although most direct community services are handled by unpaid volunteers. DiLorenzo summed up his findings by emphasizing the hoarding of funds by the ACS.
"Most contributors believe their donations are being used to fight cancer, not to accumulate financial reserves. More progress in the war against cancer would be made if they would divest some of their real estate holdings and use the proceeds -- as well as a portion of their cash reserves -- to provide more cancer services."
Aside from high salaries and overhead, most of what is left of the ACS budget goes to basic research and research into profitable, patented cancer drugs.
The current budget of the ACS is $380 million and its cash reserves approach one billion dollars. Yet its aggressive fund-raising campaign continues to plead poverty, and lament the lack of available money for cancer research, while ignoring efforts to prevent cancer by phasing out avoidable exposures to environmental and occupational carcinogens.
Meanwhile, the ACS is silent about its intricate relationships with the wealthy cancer drug industry and chemical industries.

Good Resource.......2001-05-03
I purchased this book to support the American Cancer Society so I wasn't expecting it to be something I could necessarily use. I was pleased to find that in fact it is very good. Yes, as one of the other reviewers notes, it suggests cooking the shrimp too long in one recipe but the majority are solidly conceived and take everyday cooking to a more sophisticated and doable level. This book can be appreciated by beginners and experienced cooks. The recipes emphasize fresh, whole ingredients but occasionally use convenience foods like canned beans. The conversions charts are up-to-date, thorough and user-friendly. I did not need the celebrity pictures and their recipes, but it is nice to know they support a very important cause.
Nice variety of recipes.......1999-10-21
This book had a nice mix of recipes, and some good ideas for substituting ingredients in some popular recipes such as brownies and cheesecake. Some recipes seemed too tasty to be low fat!

Occupied Japan collectibles. .......2007-06-14
I collect older (collectible) MADE IN JAPAN and OCCUPIED JAPAN items and therefore I have quite a few books on the subject(s). This book is not complete but quite helpful. Photos are nice.
Many different volumes have been written on this subject. Infact, I own many other books on this same subject.
When "Occupied Japan" collectibles were issued there were sooooo many different items sold, that it would be impossible to include all of them in just one book. The author tried and did a good job though.
only half of what you need.......2006-01-31
while the author gives many photographs, she lacks identifying marks for the items and in my opinion, is not correct on her values. however, she explains her process in the beginning.

Book Description
This study reconstructs the life of Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor responsible for the execution of Jesus. The first section provides the historical and archaeological background. The following chapters look at six first-century authors: Philo, Josephus and the four gospel writers. Each chapter asks how Pilate is being used as a literary character in each work, why each author describes Pilate in a different way, and what this tells us about the relationship between each author and the Roman state.
Customer Reviews:
Dispelling the Cliched Viewpoints.......2007-06-26
This is a very refreshing and compelling study, trenchantly argued and comprehensively researched. Do not believe what the History Channel and other media outlets propound; read and assimilate the facts.
A Powerful Piece on Pilate.......2001-10-05
At last, a well argued, clear, thoughful and incisive academic book on Pilate. Bond has a clear grasp of first-century culture, both Roman and Jewish, and handles texts highly effectively. As yet, this book is the serious historical piece on Pilate that has no competition over its academic credentials.

Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo applies his bestselling blood type diet plan to expectant parents and infants. This one-of-a-kind guide offers methods of maximizing health from fertility through every stage of pregnancy and the baby's first year:
Customer Reviews:
Excellent help for major issues: morning sickness, conception..........2007-09-11
I have bought no less than 4 copies of this book for myself and friends, and can't recommend it often enough. Never followed it to the letter, but as a general guide (which I do loosely with the whole Blood Type concept). My whole immediate family is Type A, though, so we have it easier than lots of families!
I first used this book when I was trying to conceive daughter #2. After the birth of dauchter #1, we had moved from CA to the east coast, and over time, my diet had morphed into many non-healthy choices for my Type A family. After several months of no results, I read this and changed my diet to follow the Type A plan more closely. In just a few weeks, we were pregnant.
My next door neighbor was also trying to conceive her 1st baby at this time. After two miscarriages, I lent her this book - and to her surprise, she read that the combination of blood types between her and her husband was one that was prone to miscarriages. Imagine the relief of knowing that there was a real reason for this, not "something she had done" or wasn't doing. She birthed her first baby 10 months after making some changes to her diet based on this.
Another friend was having terrible morning sickness, and following the traditional advice of "experts" was actually amaking her feel worse, not better. Once she found her type in here, she was able to curb the sickness and get through her first trimester by EATING and actually absorbing the nutrients her baby and body needed.
Admittedly, the contents of this book can appear odd to those not familiar with the concept, and I've had many "western" medicine doctors pooh-pooh this all. But the fact is, no one can explain the results we've had in any "traditional" manner. I'm here buying copy #5 tonight!
Found book very helpful and informative.......2007-01-04
I think this diet may be easiest to follow for Type O blood types. I found the diet to be very similar to what I am eating now with a few changes. Actually small changes. I think one of the greatest challenges for the Type O blood types is the need to eat meat and the aversion to it for some during pregnancy. I like many of the recipes and plan to incorporate them into my diet. As with anything and any book you read take what you can from it and use the info that helps you. Each person is different no matter what type blood they may have. I even read a comment from someone regarding pregnancy and eating according to blood types and although Type 0 - while pregnant she was more drawn to the foods of the child she was carrying's blood type. I really think our bodies guide us to what's best and what's most needed. This was a book I borrowed from the library but then wound up getting my own copy.
Infertility info alone worth the purchase.......2005-11-27
Before I had read this book or been introduced to the "Right For Your Type" diet concept, I followed something very close to what D'Adamo advocates for my type. After 5 years of infertility, we conceived our baby daughter. Now that I have read the author's other books, I am not surprised to see that his recommendations can help infertile couples conceive and help those with recurring miscarriage.
I understand that carnivorous Type As and vegetarian Type Os will struggle with the diet. My encouragement is to read Live Right For Your Type first so that you actually get the science part of this. Then ask the many infertile women who have conceived after following his diet how "nuts" it is.
Contradicts what my nutritionist and doctor advises .......2005-02-09
The concept of the book is interesting which got me reading in the first place. Although as I hit page 100, I just could not continue. I was to avoid all cheeses that are mostly considered safe for me and baby and that it was OK for me to eat some harmful (unpasteurized) ones. I feel sorry for the pregnant woman and her fetus who follows this ridiculous diet plan and ends up with listeria. There are also some "no no" fish that are listed on the OK list also. But I was absolutely floored when it told me to avoid all meat.. (protein is essential!) This is a crucial time for optimal health so please, just eat healthy and see a doctor or nutritionist who actually knows what they are talking about.
Odd but worth it.......2003-10-15
Reading the other reviews, I can hear where other reviewers are coming from. It's true, this way of eating and exercising does not provide a one-size-fits-all approach, and often can seem odd. Dr. D'Adamo's Blood Type diet & exercise recommendations are explained in much more detail in earlier books. In particular, Live Right 4 Your Type would be a great introduction to the theory and science behind the Blood Type Diet (BTD). I see Eat Right 4 Your Baby (ER4YB) as a resource for folks who already have familiarity with the BTD and have found that it makes sense for them. I do wish that ER4YB included information regarding variations for non-secretors. As someone working towards getting healthy now, in anticipation of pregnancy in a few years, this information is very helpful to me, including in terms for maximizing fertility. I have lost 60 pounds in the last year from following these diet & exercise guidlines, and have seen a tremendous improvement in my energy, allergies, asthma, sinuses, and joint stiffness.

All creatures great & small + All things bright & beautiful.......2002-05-14
The seller sent me one book with first 2 stories in it. It was supposed to be four books. I accept that change without being asked. But the seller never sent the second book. I have emailed several times without any response at all. I will never buy from this seller again.
All Emotions Great and Small.......2000-02-22
Since I want to become a vet, I thought that this would be a great book to read. From the first sentence to the last I was enthralled. The words James Herriot uses in his books make you feel like you are standing right beside him when he is talking. This book will make you literally laugh out loud and also will make you cry. The story in this book is not one easily forgotten.
the best ever`.......2000-01-10
these books are the best i ever read. you can see the places described by herriot in your mind. i've read every book several times, and will read them all several more.
A book I remember years later..........1999-12-07
I had a dear aunt give me a copy of "All Things Great and Small" as a kid. I began to read it out of boredom as it was summer and school was out. I remember how each chapter was it's own story--some sad and some quite humorous and in my mind James Herriot allowed me a accompany him on each vetinarian visit. Trully a wonderful book series. Now as a parent I can see how this book might make for a great bed-time story book for children.
Great account of the life of an English country Vet!.......1999-11-17
I've read the whole series several times over, and it really brings to life images of English country farms. Cold frosty mornings, gruff country farmers, the rolling hills and dales of the countryside are all beautifully illustrated through Jame's Harriot's wonderful prose. It evokes thoughts of simpler times and whisks you away from the hustle and bustle of modern city life. A bonus if you love animals, but not necessary to enjoy these books!

Book Description
Given the volatility of the Italian economy, it may be considered surprising to discover that Italy has a non-profit sector. However, the dual pressures of containing the government deficit in order to stay in Europe, while also improving the quality, efficiency and quantity of services, have caused non-profit organizations to come to the fore in public life. This is a close analysis of the non-profit sector in Italy, seeking to show that such organizations operate in more diverse fields than those of the traditional "welfare" sectors. They are widespread in the fields of culture, entertainment, social recreation, conservation and environmental areas, and the safeguarding of civil and labour union rights. The book offers an insight into the workings of the Italian economy and society, and should interest economists, sociologists and policy analysts.

Awful !.......2001-09-27
A waste of time and money - could not get past the second chapter before totally giving up on this one (I really did give it a shot)....
Don't waste your money on this one!.......2000-01-15
This book is written in a very sophmoric text and was really down right boring. With the exception of one or two interviews all the info can be found in any music magazine. I was at times embarrassed for the authors "attempting" to interview these ladies. Don't waste money on this one, borrow it or go to the library.
Fabulous.......2000-01-13
I found this book very interesting. The book allowed us to see these couples how they really are and how they feel. They their publicist want you to see them (in some cases) and the way these people truly are can be two different things. Thank you Nancy and Tom for a terrific book.
i read this book in one night!.......1999-04-24
I enjoyed this book, but the only thing I would change about it is the amount of the older, traditional country stars written about. I'd like to have seen the whole book be about the older singers, not as many of the newer ones. However, I know that today, the "young" and "cute" artists sell, even if they have no talent whatsoever. If the book was strictly about the "old-timers", it wouldn't appeal to as many people, I suppose.
Don't waste your time or money on this book.......1999-01-19
I was sorely disappointed in reading this book. Instead of finding interesting stories which were well written, I found myself reading a book which seems like it had been written by a child in grade school. The silliness, and just the simplicity of its text makes the reader feel like an incompetent individual. Not to mention that these wives come off sounding like a bunch of ding-bats, for which I am sure they are not. I am wondering if after seeing the book in print, the wives are as sorry for participating in this book, as I am for actually taking the time to read it.

Understanding and Scholarly Depth.......2004-06-29
Jack Kolbert brings with him the richness of his relationship with Wiesel as well as the depth of his scholarly wisdom as he profiles his friend in this biography. Having had the privilage of being a student of Kolbert's, I see also in this work the benefit of his life experiences as well as hear the tone of his teaching. This book is comperable to attending on of Kolbert's lectures--warm, funny, anecdotal at times, yet incredibly focused on the man and the factors involved in Wiesel's development as an author and humanitarian. Kolbert's knowledge of French literature, existentialist thought and Franco-Jewish literature is outstanding, and he brings all of this to the table as he writes about one of the strongest voices in the world today, the incomperable Elie Wiesel. For a Wiesel admirer, this is not a work to be missed.
A first-rate companion book to Wiesel's work.......2002-02-11
The Worlds Of Elie Wiesel: An Overview Of His Career And His Major Themes is a biography written by Jack Kolbert, a personal friend of world-famous author and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. Focusing on Wiesel's personal struggles against human beings both malevolent and indifferent to malevolence, as well as his trials of faith with regard to a God that permitted the Holocaust, The Worlds Of Elie Wiesel is ultimately a testimony to Wiesel's conviction in the solidarity of the Jewish people. A first-rate companion book to Wiesel's work, The Worlds Of Elie Wiesel is very highly recommended to students of Holocaust Studies, as well as the non-specialist general reader of biographies focusing on influential men who have lived through "interesting times".
