Book Description
Introduction by Ruddock F. Mackay. Readers who love a great sea story from the age of fighting sail will enjoy this lively narrative by outspoken British officer William Stanhope Lovell. During the course of his career Vice Adm. Lovell sailed the world with one of history's great navies and participated in the Blockade of Brest, the expedition to Egypt, the Battle of Trafalgar, the Peninsular Wars with Wellington, and the invasion of the Chesapeake during the War of 1812, where he took part in the attack on Washington. This stylishly written account combines vivid descriptions of the famous engagements with no-holds-barred opinions about everything from the "most dastardly" American stratagem of booby-trapping invaders with torpedoes made of "barrels of powder made fast to casks of flour" to Lovell's belief that with wiser political management the British and Americans could have settled their quarrel without conflict.
First published in 1839 under the title Personal Narrative of Events, From 1799 to 1815, with Anecdotes, Lovell's book has had a lasting appeal, leading to subsequent editions in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. With a new introduction by a noted English naval historian, this treasury of first-person observations is a worthy addition to the Classics of Naval Literature series. 5 illustrations. 3 line drawings. 51/2 x 81/4 inches.

Primary resource material of the greatest interest.......2004-02-02
More than a century after his death in 1897, Henry George remains one of the most original and influential economic thinkers in American history. His revolutionary theory on land taxation gained a tremendous following, reshaped the nation's political and economic debate, and continues to be widely discussed throughout the world. His writings shaped a generation of statesmen and intellectuals, including Winston Churchill, Robert La Follette, Clarence Darrow, George Bernard Shaw, and Milton Freedman.

So far, so good.......2006-11-14
My appearance-conscientious, 13-year-old daughter finds this book helpful and positive. With Essence and Right On! magazines as our usual source for beauty advice, I found this book to be a pleasant mixture of both as it is as informative as Essence magazine with age-appropriate concepts-like Right On! magazine. Buy it!
A must have.......2006-04-02
I bought this as a gift for one of my daughter's friends a year ago. She still thanks me and tells me how much she's been able to use it and how helpful it's been. She wants me to find something just like it for her birthday this year, too. There simply aren't enough books like this for black preteen and teenage girls. She has made a lot of changes not just in how she takes care of herself, but also in the way she views herself. She's become quite the confident young lady in the past year.
A good gift for your princesses.......2006-02-04
I bought this book when I was a teenager and found it helpful. It does need some color pictures.
Perpetrating Negative Cultural Socialization of Girls!.......2002-07-30
This book perpetrates years of negative media images of African American people and women in general. It contributes to the false notion that a Eurocentric physical appearance is an indicatior of African American beauty. The photograph on the front cover of the book is a fine example of this. All of the young women in the photograph have long straightened/chemically altered hair and their skin complexions range from light to medium brown. None of these young sisters are dark skinned nor do they sport natural and/or short hair styles! In addition this book contributes to the socializing of girls into being
self-consumed with beauty. A young woman's self esteem should be based on her character, her talents and her accomplishments NOT on her appearance. They must know they are special because they are respected and valued. Tips on beauty from the "Hollywood stars" and beauty tips on how to prepare for a "date" are shallow issues that do not build self-esteem, strong principals or values. Lets not insult the intelligence of our teen daughters by believing that their world ONLY consits of beauty and dates. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BOOK! More appropriate books for young African American womens'beauty should be centered around self-love and self-acceptance. Natural beauty books that truly embrace self-love/acceptance and Afrocentricity are "No Lye" by Tulani Kinard and "Lets Talk Hair" by Pamela Ferrell. Start your daughters off with these two books. It is in these kinds of books that the "beauty" issues around self-esteem that plague so many African American women and teens today are discussed. It is also in these books that various photos of African American females of many complexions, and hair textures/lenghts and ages are shown.

Low-fat doesn't have to be boring.......2004-06-04
Jenny Craig's (of the weight-loss program) 1995 cookbook takes an international approach to low-fat cooking and emphasizes simplicity and quick preparation. She begins with a guide to low-fat nutrition, exercise and attitude, provides two chapters of menus, "Simple Dinners" and "Quick Entertaining," and organizes the remainder of the book by course.
Dishes are refreshingly unusual - Melon with Sweet Onion Dressing, Capellini with Cilantro Pesto, Goat Cheese Tostadas - and comfortingly familiar - Zucchini Corn Muffins, Beef Tenderloin with Horseradish Sauce, Lemon-Dijon Chicken Breasts, Vanilla Cookies. Vegetarian entrees include Spinach Filled Tortilla Rolls and Corn Frittata.
Each is prefaced with a preparation and cooking timetable and most can be prepared in under an hour, although some dishes require marinating (Thai Barbecue Chicken) or freezing (Pineapple-Orange Frozen Yogurt). Directions are simple and nutritional information is included with every recipe. Very appealing and practical.
Low Fat Cooking Should Not Be so Hard.......2001-09-13
There were a wide variety of recipes in this book. I have enjoyed everyone I tried. My only comment would be that many of these recipes were time consuming and used a lot of dishes. However, the end result is worth the work provided you have the time.
Great variety and taste.......1997-10-20
A keen gourmet cook and now a keen (by necessity) dieter, I am more than impressed with this book. I expect to find at most 5 good recipes in the average cook book (and I have 100's). Jenny Craig's offering came as a wonderful surprise to find that I had 'tagged' almost half of the recipes as 'worth a cook'. I am now working through them and have yet to find a failure. One of the reasons I was so reluctant to start dieting was my love of cooking and the prospect of giving up my search for the ultimate recipe. This book is a joy for me - I can indulge my love of preparing food without the guilt.
Book Description
Since the first edition of Collectors Encyclopedia of Depression Glass was released in 1972, it has been Americas #1 bestselling glass book. Gene and Cathy Florence now present this completely revised seventeenth edition with 156 patterns and almost 400 beautiful color photographs. With the assistance of several nationally known dealers, this book illustrates, as well as realistically prices, items in demand. Dealing primarily with the glass made from the 1920s through the end of the 1930s, this beautiful reference book contains stunning color photographs, vintage catalog pages, updated values, and a special section on reissues and fakes. In addition, for the first time all the pieces in the photographs are identified and cross-referenced with their listings. This dependable information comes from years of research, experience, fellow dealers and collectors, and millions of miles traveled by full-time glass dealers Gene and Cathy Florence, Americas leading glassware authorities.
Customer Reviews:
An Essential for New Collectors.......2007-09-06
Like many people who collect depression glass, I stumbled into it while breaking up housekeeping in my grandmother's house last summer. As we went through her cabinets and packed up the things she couldn't take to her assisted living facility, I found numerous pieces of pretty colored glass that I took simply because I enjoyed the various colors and patterns. When my mom suggested that some of it was depression-era glass, I went to the library and found a previous edition of the Florence's book and went nuts when I saw what these pieces were worth. My grandma did too! Later that fall, the book was indispensible when we were cleaning out my great-grandmother's house to put it up for auction. I found 5 large boxes full of glass. This book was very useful in helping catagorize what I had, and how much to insure all of it for.
This edition of the book is great because of it's photographs of each pattern. It makes it very easy to identify a lot of pieces just on sight. It also contains extremely useful information on reproductions which is fantastic to have when looking for glass, particularily at flea markets, estate sales and online where a lot of people mislabel patterns. The pricing is also helpful so you can see when people are simply trying to make a huge profit, rather than asking a reasonable amount.
The reason I only gave this book 4 stars, though, is because there are many patterns that are not included in this edition. In the foreward, it's stated that not all patterns are contained because it would cause the price of the book to increase. However, by excluding several patterns, you are forced to purchase another book which means spending more money as well. The book is also difficult to bring along to antique stores because of it's size--most stores won't let you bring in a large purse or bag. But overall, if you are a new collector or looking to become one, this is an important book to have in your library.
depression glass.......2007-09-06
If you are interested in depression glass you will love this book! It is full of useful information.
Review for Collector's Enclyclopedia of Depression Glass .......2007-06-26
The book has a well written narrative for each pattern along with photographs so that you can identify the dishes you have in your collections. There also is a guide provided to give you an idea of the value of your dish. A very useful product for the average consumer if you are estate sale shopping or having a garage sale.
Not what I would consider an Encyclopedia.......2007-05-13
In my opinion, this book was a big disappointment. I was expecting more of an "Encyclopedia." The book provides incomplete lists of what specific pieces make a complete set in a particular color/pattern. The photos are lacking in detail making pattern identification difficult and/or just plain lacking so you can't determine what a particular piece to a set should even look like. A better title would be "Examples of Depression Glass and Values."
Nice compliment to Warmans Field Guide.......2007-02-16
Good information, especially on how to spot reproductions. I also like the extensive photos of different pattern pieces.
Customer Reviews:
Wow! So many patterns!.......2006-11-14
I had no idea how many types of Early American Pattern Glass there were. This book has a section on history, manufacturers and reproductions as well as listings with drawings of glassware in this category. Like the previous reviewer, I felt photos would have been better than drawings because the drawings are too small to pick out details to help identify specific patterns easily. Maybe a combination of drawings with photos would be nice, however, I am sure finding examples of all the glassware could be rather difficult! Many of us see older glassware and think "Grandma had that", never realizing that Grandma's grandmother actually had it first! This book would be an excellent addition to a reference library on Early American Pattern Glass, but definitely don't use it exclusively to identify glassware of this type.
Warman's Pattern Glass.......2000-03-27
This book was organized in a very concise easy-to-use fashion, giving manufactuers' and other pattern names for each design illustrated. The only drawback that I found with this book was the fact that the illustrations were not always as accurate as a photograph would have been.

Customer Reviews:
Really now - it is an EXCELLENT book........2006-08-25
If you're looking for patterns that are flashy and that might go out of style and be outdated in the next six months to a year, don't buy this book.
With that being said, if you are looking for timeless styles that are quiet but still beautiful, then by all means DO buy this book; the patterns are all lovely and look to be beginner-friendly.
As for the concern about the patterns calling for the author's brand of yarn, yes, that's true. However, the author does frequently mention the ribbon yarn's width and yardage needed, so if you don't mind doing a little comparison shopping you should be able to find some cheaper yarn that will still work for you. (Isn't that what knitting is all about - being adventurous?)
All in all, this one is a keeper. It will certainly be staying in my knitter's library and is a welcome addition.
Save Your Money.......2005-11-19
This book has items in it that most people would probably not wear. I know I wouldn't. I received this as a gift and I while the thought was a good one, it isn't a book I'd have purchased.
No sweaters for crochet.......2004-07-11
I received this book as a gift from someone who knew I could crochet, but wasn't sure I could knit (I can't). Despite the fact it says there are knit and crochet patterns, there is only one wearable item for crochet in the whole book, and I'll bet those of you who've gotten burned on this kind of book before can guess what it is too: a granny square vest. That's all crochet is good for, you know...There are some purses in crochet too, but they were very common patterns of types I have already.
Nothing Special.......2001-02-28
One of the purse patterns is nice (Flapper Wrist Bag), but there are cheaper craft leaflets out with better patterns (acrylic chenille seems to be the yarn of choice right now), and if you collect vintage knitting books/patterns you may already have a lot of this stuff. The author's product line is not cheap either, and many of the projects (especially the hobo bags) look like a lot of the cheap imports available today--why put all that money into something when you could buy a nearly identical item cheaper?
The clothing is nothing remarkable either, and definitely warm weather only. If you like to slice up strips of fabric with a Rotary Cutter and crochet/knit, you might be able to adapt the patterns for a "country" look.
Disappointing basic patterns and expensive to make.......1998-07-18
This book contains patterns for tops, vests, cardigans, etc, made with rayon ribbon. Most of the items are very basic and not interesting or innovative, except for the crocheted purses which are attractive. The recommended rayon ribbon is the author's own brand which, as it turns out, is rather expensive to purchase. Although she cites several companies who are also producing rayon ribbon, the author does not offer equivalencies that would make it easy to find and use the right ribbon. All in all, a disappointing book.

Customer Reviews:
The Best Book About Ozzy Yet.......2004-09-13
Garry Sharpe-Young's book about Ozzy is an essential read for anyone who is interested in learning about the people and personalities that passed through Ozzy's band from the early 80s to the present day. Although the author's writing is a little choppy at times, and there is the occasional printing error (e.g., there is a page missing as the book transitions from pg. 79 to pg. 80, because a sentence is cut-off), the book is really an enjoyable read. I could not put it down.
The author obviously worked closely with former members of Ozzy's band, because the book is crafted around insightful interviews that clear up many misconceptions and rumors that have spread for years (e.g., "Suicide Solution" was never about Bon Scott). What I particularly liked about the book is how it helps to give long overdue credit to many of the musicians who have been overlooked over the years, including Bob Daisley, Tommy Aldridge, Lee Kerslake, and Rudy Sarzo, among others. These men were instrumental in forming the classic sound of Ozzy's groups in the early 1980s. Ozzy owes these people a huge debt, although unfortunately Ozzy (and especially his viper wife Sharon) obviously will never see it that way.
Perhaps the greatest contribution to this study is the detailed accounts of the various guitar players that passed through (or, in the case of Randy Rhoades, passed away) though the Ozzy Osbourne band. I was really surprised by the amount of respect the guitar players have for each other when they discuss the people they replaced or followed. While it appears that working for Sharon and Ozzy was certainly a fragile situation with little security--it was not uncommon to be fired and then immediately re-hired--most of the band members still seem to have good memories about working with Ozzy. That in itself is pretty amazing, because working for Ozzy and Sharon typically also meant experiencing contractual hassles, low pay, broken promises, denied royalties, and other assorted ills of the music business.
The actual text of the book runs about 200 pages. The next 150 pages is a detailed discography/biography of seemingly every band that has a connection, directly or indirectly, to Ozzy or anyone who has ever played in Ozzy's bands. This is pretty much overkill and not completely necessary (and a good portion of the information is redundant), but I suppose information, even if it is very marginal with respect to the subject of the book, is not necessarily a bad thing.
best book about ozzy solo band.......2003-12-28
this is a fantastic book if your into who what when and where info on ozzy's blizzard of ozz band, right from the beginning up to currant date.interviews with many ozzy band members from the past and a few uncredited by request reasons unknown.this book is a must for die hard ozzy fans who want to know the meat and potatoes of his solo band.

ASIN: 2913621058 |
Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
An astounding tour-de-force exploration of the limits of self-destruction and the possibilities of redemption. Narrated by a young woman distinguished by her humor as well as her encyclopedic knowledge of literature, physics, and pharmacology--this novel has all the hallmarks of literary sensation. "I could never predict what was going to ruin me and what was going to rescue me," says Ilyana Meyerovich. In her squalid Lower East Side apartment, masochism and nihilism form the twin poles of Ilyana's heroin-blurred existence. When Ilyana encounters true friendship in the form of Susie Lyons, having no precedent for it, she cannot help but destroy it. Susie's genuine affection and calm, centered presence tug Ilyana out of her depression, dark memories, and existential despair, but not far enough that Ilyana is willing or able to act to save Susie from her own innocence. The consequences are devastating, until Ilyana meets with the hope of redemption, for herself and for Susie. Ellen Miller shows us a world where the desperate desire for connection to something larger than the isolated self takes many forms. Like Being Killed's starkly alienated protagonists and their disturbing, fascinating lives rise from the page with scorching power in this harrowing, cathartic tale of human struggle. * An astonishing literary debut, by a wholly original young novelist, in the tradition of Dorothy Allison, author of the acclaimed Bastard Out of Carolina.

Stunningly written.......2006-07-08
I have nothing but admiration for the author and her style. Clean, precise, gut-wrenching. She plunges us into serious darkness and is able to make us laugh in the thick of it.
Have yet to read a better book since reading this one. And I am compelled to hope she doesn't write another one. Can't imagine she could do a better job.
best written book i have ever read!.......2006-05-06
a masterclass in structure and verbage!she is a rare find.what i call "method writing'.i have passed it on to all friends and family.i believe it is destined to be a classic.
book of great insight and depth.......2006-04-16
I just read the negative review as well and it inspired me to add my 2-cents worth, so to speak. I found the book to be very engaging and while some it of had some tragic, difficult parts, I still found the overall quality of the book to be substantial and well written. It was full of aspects that rang true to much of my experience growing up in a large city and my fascination with human nature's self destructiveness and redemption qualities and the overall learning process along the way. I have a great respect for the author and I am interested to find out the title of the casette tape of the chain gang music the Susie was moved by at the end of the book. I look forward to reading the next book!~
Ignore the negative review. This book is brilliant........2005-12-02
The very negative review here pretty much defines why this book is so brilliant. "Just because your parents are off doesn't mean you have to go shoot heroin" it says, demonstrating a typical person's notion of Manichean dualism that Ilyana Meyerovitch (the protagonist) and Ellen Miller explode in "Like Being Killed". This book is about the torment of a sanitized, infantilized, paternalistic, cold, and cruel world for incredibly intelligent and sensitive people, and about the extreme means they will pursue to find some sort of pleasure and meaning within it. Unlike many books depicting female heroin addicts (those 'Just Say No' morons should realize that heroin has less effect on mental processes than alcohol, and was legal until the 1920's; it also is the close cousin to a medical miracle, morphine), Ilyana is incredibly intelligent, chooses her destiny (is not stereotypically 'lured into it' by a boyfriend, like so many writers pathetically depict female addicts), and (unlike the aforementioned review) does not ever engage in prostitution. If you are a judgmental, callous, and rather simplistic sort who loves to stigmatize and incarcerate all those who do not live Romper Room lives regardless of their depth and humanity as individuals, then avoid this book, as you will feel that you have been 'robbed'. If you are a person of depth, feeling, and intelligence, than you are in for the read of a lifetime
Worst book I ever read.......2005-10-23
This book was so God awful that I feel robbed. The few hours I spent reading it is time I can never get back. The characters in this book are the most pathetic group of idiots I have ever seen. If I ever came across people like this in real life I would urge them to seriously consider suicide and spare the world having to deal with them. The main character is such a moron. Her parents were a little off so she uses that as her excuse to be a junkie and a waste of space. We all deal with hard times in our lives, it doesnt mean we can go shoot up heroin. it took me nearly 2 months to finish this book becaues I couldnt bare to sit there and read more than 3 pages at a time without being either bored to death of listening to her whine or getting an urge to smash something from the drug induced observations of the world that she made.
The author tries to disguise that this book is nothing more than a tale of a junkie whore with no motivation to do anything by using "big words" and empty philosophies. Dont waste your money on this book. If you want to read something about a womans coming of age and going through hell then I suggest reading Wally Lamb's "Shes come undone" . That book is amazing.
Like being killed is like a slow suicide to read.
