Good for steudents of WT.......2003-11-11
This book is very good but it is really a guide for students of WT. The photographs show the form in the correct fashion but if you wish to learn purely frim the book this is impossible you need a teacher to fully understand the move. Very good fro students as a home study guide.
Informative!.......2003-01-30
If you're a WT practitioner, then this book is certainly a recommandation: very well written, complete with all the chinese names of every movement. Not too much applications, but it's worth to have a look at it! I would say: LT can continue to write a lot of WT-books!
Great Manual for Beginners, Great Review for Instructors!.......2002-10-25
This book has been long awaited. It breaks down the SNT form step by step (similar to the book WingTsun Kuen, but with the Chinese names for ALL the movements), including the applications of the movements set by set. This book is great for beginning students of WingTsun, as well as a great review or source of topics for instructors to train their students in. Can't wait until the Chum Kiu and Biu Tze books get translated into english!
Book Description
When Little Rabbit wishes for long, beautiful red wings, his wish comes true, but life is not at all as he'd expected: his friends, and even his own mother, don't recognize him! He learns the hard way the truth of that old adage "be careful what you wish for," and that the best thing for a little rabbit to be is himself.
Customer Reviews:
Loved this book........2007-06-26
I think the message of this book is to be proud of who you are and not wish to be something you are not or wish to be someone else.
Scared me to death!.......2007-04-19
This story used to scare me to death when I was little. The rabbit got rejected by all his friends and his mom and had to spend the night by himself. I definitely would not read this to my baby.
read it as a child - horrible morals.......2007-02-07
I got this book from my grandma when I was 6. I'm 20 now and realize what an awful story this is! This little rabbit gets a special gift of red cardinal's wings, which seemed awesome to me as a kid, and his own mother and family reject him because he's wierd! A great book for homophobic parents or anyone else who wants their kid to know that being different is bad and if you are different, even your own parents will turn you away. I'm just glad I read more Shel Silverstein poems than I did trash like this.
Striking Down the Tall Poppies.......2006-10-12
The story: A rabbit is magically gifted with red wings and a joyful ability no other rabbit has: flight. But he soon learns that To Be Different is Bad. The other rabbits, instead of sharing his joy, reject him for his special gift, as does his own mother. He soon learns that it's better to deny your own gifts than to Be Different; and in the end, voluntarily shorn of the wings that gave him so much delight and lifted him above other rabbits, he is again accepted by rabbitkind.
A stirring celebration of mediocrity, and a much-needed message to children with gifts and talents that they had better learn to hide them. If you enjoyed this book, you'll love Rainbow Fish.
Be pleased with who you are.......2006-10-12
I agree with the other reviewers that this is a nice story with cute illustrations. My only caveat is that another theme also comes out of this story, namely to be suspicious or fear others whose appearances or behavior is considered different or other from one's own. I was disturbed that the bunny's mother couldn't recognize him and ultimately rejected him, sending him into the cold night. The bushy-tailed squirrel slams his door shut on the bunny in fear. Only when the bunny gives up his wings do the other characters' compassion appear in accepting him. While the value of appreciating one's own self "as is" is important, I'm not sure that the ensuing lesson of fearing others when they are different is a good lesson to be picked up by children.

Book Description
First published in 1946, The Little Squeegy Bug became an instant favorite when Eleanor Roosevelt wrote in her nationally syndicated newspaper column, My Day: The grandkids were at the cottage this weekend and we read an adorable new book by two GIs. This beguiling tale of high hopes follows the little squeegy bug, low to the ground and very plain, as he finds his place among the sun, moon, and stars.
Customer Reviews:
My daughter is 2 1/2 and is obsessed with this book!.......2004-09-13
We got this book from the library and ever since my daughter read it for the first time she has been talking about Squeegy Bugs continually. The illustrations are wonderful, and the story is very simple and nice (and my daughter said to add this..."cats!" In other words, the only thing that this book is missing for my young daughter is cats. Also check out the website for the publisher. It is fabulous. It has a fun couple of games based on the book. Very nicely done.
I love this Book!.......2002-04-30
This is such a great book. The story is so cute about a little bug trying to find who he is. I think it helps teach kids that everyone is different and special. The illistrations are wonderful as well. I think it's a very captivating book for all ages. My daughter is only 2 and she enjoys listening to it and looking at the neat pictures. And of course it caputred my heart, why else would I write a great review!? :O)
A heartwarming, highly enjoyable story to read aloud.......2001-12-16
The Little Squeegy Bug is a children's picture book collaboratively written by Bill Martin Jr. and Michael Sampson, and with colorful illustrations by Patrick Corrigan featuring soft, muted hues around a theme of deep blue evening sky. This charming and entertaining tale for young readers is about a courageous little squeegy bug who doesn't know what type of insect he is or where he came from; he is looking for something special to distinguish himself from the other insects, until his quest leads him to wise spider, who gives the squeegy bug a starlight and gives him the name Firefly. The Little Squeegy Bug is a heartwarming, highly enjoyable story to read aloud to young children right before bedtime.
Magical............2001-08-26
The little squeegy bug didn't know who or what he was. He wasn't an ant or a cricket or even a flea and he wanted to find his purpose in life. When he met Buzzer the Bumblebee, he decided he wanted to be special, just like him. But how could he find a pair of silver wings and a stinger? Buzzer tells Squeegy he'll have to touch the sky to get a beautiful pair of silver wings like his. So that's just what he tried to do. He spent three days climbing the tallest thing he knew of, a cattail, certain it must touch the sky. But on the third evening, he was caught in a terrible storm and saved from certain disaster by a very nice caterpillar, who took him in and gave him a place to sleep. The next morning, the two travel to the web at the very end of the cattail and consult with the all-knowing, Haunchy the Spider. Haunchy weaves Squeegy a beautiful pair of silver wings for his back. But there is no stinger. Instead, Haunchy reaches up and grabs the brightest star in the night sky, attaches it to Squeegy's bottom and names him Squeegy the Firefly, the Lamplighter of the Sky..... Originally published in 1946, Bill Martin Jr, Michael Sampson and Pat Corrigan have teamed up to create this new version of a timeless classic. Their gentle, magical, understated text is enhanced by their high-tech geometric illustrations and together they've authored an innovative and creative story that will mesmerize youngsters with its simple message and bright, bold, textured artwork. Perfect for kids 4-8, The Little Squeegy Bug is an uplifting treasure to read and share again and again, and pass down from one generation to the next.
A childhood favorite!.......2000-12-03
When I found out I was pregnant I called my mom to see if she still had this book from my childhood...I HAD TO HAVE IT!! It was a gift to me from my great aunt (a schoolteacher) - and I wanted to have it to read to my child. There are only a couple of books that left lasting impressions on me - this one is at the top of that list. Now I am looking for another copy as the one I have is falling apart!

Book Description
Every day for nine months from September 1944 to the end of the war, young British, Commonwealth and Norwegian airmen flew from Banff aerodrome in northern Scotland in their Mosquitoes and Beaufighters to target the German U-Boats, merchantmen and freighters plying along the coast and in the fjords and leads of southwest Norway, encountering the Luftwaffe and flakships every step of the way.
This Scottish strike wing fought in some of the bitterest and bloodiest attacks of the war, all at very low level and at close quarters. Their contribution to winning the war was crucial and while the cost in precious lives and equipment was in the same proportion as Bomber Command, they inflicted far greater damage to the enemy in relation to their losses.
With Group Captain The Hon. Max Aitken, DSO DFC as station commander, Banff was eventually to become the base for a total of six Mosquito squadrons (including 235, 248 and 143), together with B Flight of the elite 333 Norwegian Squadron, and would team up on missions with the nearby Dallachy Beaufighter strike wing (404 RCAF, 455 RAAF, 489 RNZAF and 144 Squadrons).
A Separate Little War, then, is a well researched and detailed history of a microcosm of Coastal Command. Supported by many photographs, maps and charts, the vast majority never published before, the author has drawn on the personal accounts of, amongst others, British and Norwegian pilots, ground crew and civilians which augment the official sources, to give a compelling, accurate and fascinating depiction of an aerodrome at war.
It is a subject which will be of great interest and value to the general reader and to those students of the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, RAF and former Commonwealth Air Forces, the Polish Air Force and of maritime air operations during World War Two.?

Companion Product........2004-09-23
A video produced by the Royal Air Force Museum "The Mosquito" may be of interest to readers of "A Separate Little War". The final 8 or so minutes of the film features a shipping strike by one or more units from a northern base attacking targets obviously in the fijords of Norway.
The entire video is 45 minutes long and in black and white.
Check this site for availability; I got mine from a supplier in Canada (where over 1,000 Mossies were made).
Impressive.......2004-03-08
This book is the culmination of a great deal of research by the author and the results of his work are very evident.
Another reviewer has suggested that the narrative is not very exciting and I am inclined to agree but the purpose of the book is not necessarily to entertain but rather to present a record of an important adjunct to the main and much more widely documented military activity towards the end of the war.
Presenting the amount of material contained within these pages in the concise manner adopted by the author does exclude much of the literary "padding" which might otherwise have been used to make a more engaging read but I found the book at once interesting, compelling and poignant with the contributions from survivors of both sides of the conflict to be very human.
I enjoyed it and recommend it.
A very detailled historical research.......2003-11-15
The book is an excellent and very detailled history of the operations flown by the Banff and Dallachy wings from 09/44 to the end of WWII.
The amount of research made is quite impressive, with a lot of first hand accounts.
But the way its written doesn't make it very exciting.

Gossamer wings, fluffy white wings, scissor-pointed wings, wooden wings... once, long, long ago, before birds and butterflies and bugs and windmills had wings, a little boy appeared with a bottomless bag of wings to distribute. No one knew where he came from, but everyone loved him... except, maybe, the jealous wind. Caldecott Honor artist Peter Sís (Tibet: Through the Red Box, Starry Messenger, Madlenka, etc.) illustrates this whimsical little story by Jacques Taravant, a former French diplomat, of how angels came to be. A touch of sadness permeates the tale, setting it apart from many American stories. The boy, though devoted to his mission, grows tired and discouraged after a while, and is only "uplifted" by the love and gratitude of thousands of newly winged creatures. This book can be a gentle touching-off point for parents and kids to discuss spirituality, selflessness, and even death. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
How the first angel came to be.There was a time when neither birds nor butterflies nor insects had wings. Then one day, out of nowhere, a little boy appeared. He carried a basketful of wings and traveled far and wide, calling out,"Come get your wings.Beautiful wings!Come get your wingsAnd fly, fly, fly!"Soon the sky was filled with sound and color! But the resentful wind hurled the Little Wing Giver's basket into the ocean. Saddened and exhausted, the Little Wing Giver lay down for the night to rest. Birds gathered round him and tried everything they could to rouse him. It was only by chance that a curious magpie found a forgotten pair of wings in the Little Wing Giver's pocket and attached them to his shoulders. With a flap of his new wings, he flew up into the sky. "And it was on seeing the Little Wing Giver flying toward Him through a sunlit cloud that gave God the idea of creating angels. This magical tale, captured in whimsical full-color illustrations, is sure to enchant readers young and old alike.

A Beautiful, Evocative Story............2001-10-24
Once upon a time a little boy appeared with a bottomless sack, full of wings. There were fluffy white wings, scissor-pointed wings, gossamer wings, even wooden wings, in all shapes, colors and sizes. The Little Wing Giver called out to all, "Come get your wings./Beautiful wings!/Come get your wings/And fly, fly, fly!" And birds, insects and butterflies all came to him, and soon the world was full of flight. But the wind grew jealous one night, and blew all the Little Wing Giver's wings away, forever. The Little Wing Giver grew sad and very tired and lay down and fell into a deep sleep. The birds sang to him and the insects tickled him, but he wouldn't wake up. Finally, a nosy magpie saw one last pair of wings sticking out of the Little Wing Giver's pocket. The creatures quickly attached them to his shoulders, and he soared away, up into the sky. "And it was on seeing the Little Wing Giver flying toward Him through a sunlit cloud that gave God the idea of creating angels."..... Jacques Taravant has written a whimsical and evocative story, that will charm youngsters with its imagery and magic. His tender text, and gentle message, is complemented by award winning artist, Peter Sis' enchanting illustrations and together they've authored a spiritual and uplifting story that's sure to become a classic. Perfect for all ages, The Little Wing Giver is a wonderful family read-aloud story to share and discuss and pass on to loved ones, friends and future generations.

Book Description
Whether you simply find watches fascinating or you have an old watch that you are curious about, this book is the one for you. This exploration of the evolution of the pendant/pocket watch is divided into centuries. Each century explores what was happening in the world and how these events and fashions influenced watch making. It includes information on makers, their marks, and even the serial numbers for the American watch movements. Filled with clues, it will help you determine when a watch was made, how it was made, what it is made of, and what makes it tick. The amount of photographs of timepieces in this volume is impressive - hundreds of watches are featured in beautiful color photographs. Cases, dials, and movements are included in the photographs - this book encompasses the entire watch. 2004 values. AUTHORBIO: Known to collectors as 'the jewelry detective,' Jeanenne Bell has written books on pendant pocket watches, as well as jewelry of all types. She is an antique jewelry dealer with retail stores in Kansas City, Missouri, and has collected hairwork jewelry for over 30 years. REVIEW: This book will have collectors racing to the bookstores. It is an all-new revised edition, this time organized alphabetically by model name and description for ease in identification. Well over 1,000 photographs are included.
Customer Reviews:
Not worth the money.......2007-07-19
I was disappointed with this book. There appears to be no organization and the information does not appear to be accurate. I expected much more and this book did not deliver.
Collector's Encyclopedia of Pendant and Pocket Watches.......2007-04-08
My 22 year old son is starting a collection of pocket watches and he has enjoyed this book. He uses it when he goes online to fine new treasures.
It helps him know what to look for.
Nice book !!!.......2005-08-22
Great pictures, but I have aspected more from this book about movement's and calibres explanation. If you have just started to collect pocket watches, than this book is for you.If you need some details for movements and calibres you will be at the start of your expertise !!!
Nice photos with little substance.......2005-08-19
Here's an example of a book that should never have been produced. The author is obviously misinformed and quite frankly, ignorant, regarding watches. The book is riddled with incorrect information regarding watch descriptions, including blatantly wrong jewel counts, movement descriptions, and the repititious "very fine and rare", "fine and lovely", "very fine and very rare", ad nauseum. The author constantly includes "micrometric regulator" in descriptions of pocket watches, that have NO micrometric regulators! The book is attractive, and has some excellent photographs, but, at best, this is a book that needed an author with some watch "smarts".
A very good overview of watches development.......2005-03-02
The book is divided in 5 chapters, each one covering one century of watch development. Each chapter deals with case, movement and decorative procedures development. In the end of each chapter you will find a full range of color fotos of watches of that period. The pictures are very beautifull, but not unique: you will find them in The Sandberg's Watch Collection Book. I think that the book should earn just 3 stars, just because it does not have "unique" pictures. However, the pictures were unique for me, since i don't have sandberg's book.

Book Description
Although fibromyalgia is a real neurological condition, it is not uncommon for FM sufferers to be treated as if "it's all in your head." Support, understanding, and even basic information can be hard to come by for coping with the intense pain and fatigue of this debilitating chronic illness, as well as the grief, anger, and isolation that often accompany its onset. Women Living with Fibromyalgia offers insight and practical advice to help sufferers alleviate the symptoms of FM and manage its impact on their lives, relationships, and careers. Woman from all walks of life share their experiences and the lessons they've learned about fibromyalgia, from a single student pondering the impact of FM on her future to the mother trying to find the energy to care for her children. Topics include: Strategies for dealing with pain, fatigue, and "brain fog;" advances in pharmaceutical treatment; results from latest scientific research; exciting new "alternative" treatments; financial issues such as insurance and Social Security benefits; and how an awareness of their rights can help women with FM in dealing with healthcare providers. This book helps its sufferers create new, rewarding lives even as they grieve the loss of the old one.
Customer Reviews:
Great price for a book in great condition.......2007-04-11
The majority of the book entails synopsis of women's life coping mechanism with the condition of FMS. Would have liked a more informative type of booklet but was good to realize one is not alone.
A Good Read.......2007-03-10
For those diagnosed with fibro or who have a family member or friend with fibro, this is a good read. Because contributions are made from women who have fibromyalgia, their suggestions and comments are real life, things we can put into practice. It is a lot more applicable than others I have read.
I'm glad I'm reading it.......2004-11-08
I was introduced to this book by my fiance (now my husband), who bought it for himself - to read and understand what I'm going through and to better help me. He urged me to read it, too, but I did not want to learn anything about it, mostly because much of what I've read before contained so much 'doom and gloom'.
I'm so glad that I am reading it now, and like the previous reviewer, I was overcome with emotion to see myself continually, not realizing just how many symptoms I just chalked up to being 'normal', or the "course of time". But as my symptoms became more constant and more severe this past year, it was time to understand just what was going on and I found so much reassurance in seeing that so many others experience these bizarre happenings within their bodies, too.
Although I have not finished the book yet, I do want to add this: I am surprised to not see more mention of just how much dietary and lifestyle changes make a huge difference, and strongly urge people to look at those in the Raw Food lifestyle who can testify to the change in their health. See Nomi Shannon's website, for example: http://www.rawgourmet.com/gourmet.html whose Raw Gourmet book is sold on Amazon, as well as many others.
You CAN become well or at the very least MUCH, much better.
And you can take control back, and do so naturally.
I recommend this book for your family and friends to read, as few people really understand, and this book is very helpful.
This is me!.......2004-06-01
When I started reading this book, I began to cry. I saw myself over and over again. And it is so comforting to know I am not the only person feeling this way, hurting this much. I am not quite finished yet, but so far I have learned so much I didn't know and also found suggestions for coping I hadn't encountered. Now if someone could only come up with a cure!
Angry and Disappointed.......2003-11-10
My hope when I bought this book was that I would find inside it encouragement and helpful advice. The author presents a very biased sample of women who I do not believe are representative of the greater population of people with fibromyalgia. Most (thought not all) of the women in this book identify themselves as sick and disabled, have stopped working and many come off as feeling sorry for themselves. I believe one can have a medical condition without being "sick" all the time. I also think that a lot of the people who are disabled by FM also have other diseases and those are likely more resposible for the disability than the FM alone. The general information about the syndrome contained in this book is available elsewhere and indeed is not the purpose of the book, but the women's stories did not provide me with the kind of information and support I was looking for. For example, 50 women listing all the medications they take or have tried tells me nothing. And I felt I was being more encouraged to go on disability after reading this book than I did to go on with my life. This condition is painful, annoying and distracting but it is not a death sentence.

Book Description
"Dr. Keddy captures the patient's experience of living and coping with suffering in the poignant interviews with twenty women who have fibromyalgia, herself included."
-
Dr. Jock Murray, medical humanities and neurology professor, Dalhousie University Medical School
Fibromyalgia, a musculoskeletal condition characterized by widespread chronic pain and fatigue, specific tender points, and sleep disturbance, is a major medical and social concern for physicians, employers, workers' compensation boards, and the insurance industry. But what about those who suffer from the condition?
Drawing on her own experiences as well as the stories of twenty other women living with the challenges of fibromyalgia, Barbara A. Keddy, RN, PhD, discusses current theories of causes and types of treatments. She also speculates about why this condition is more prominent among women than men. By sharing these stories, Keddy highlights the invisibility of the daily difficulties fibromyalgia sufferers face.
With its uniquely personal perspective, Women and Fibromyalgia validates Keddy's experience and offers hope for her and others that they will someday take back control of their bodies.

Description:
In this paper I employ data triangulation in order to investigate the complex nature of the altered lifeworlds and daily geographies of women living with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). More specifically, I use the findings of in-depth interviews and a standardized test (the Sickness Impact Profile [SIP]) in a mixed-method approach to understanding how women's lives change after the onset of FMS and how their changing bodies and locations in society and space shape such altered lifeworlds. These data were collected from 55 women living with FMS in Ontario, Canada. The experiential evidence shared during the interviews is used to qualify or explain certain phenomena observed within the SIP dataset. I focus on four specific experiences in the women's lives; these are the: (1) onset of mental haziness and fatigue; (2) development of disrupted sleep/sleep disorders; (3) removal from paid labour; and (4) withdrawal from social and recreational activities. It is found that changes in the women's bodies precipitated some of the most significant life changes experienced, including altered identities and diminished incomes, and that altered bodily realities facilitated or denied access to socio-spatial life. At the same time, the women's changing locations in society and space also played a role in bringing about such changes.

Incredible find for me.......2007-03-20
Even having grown up in the USSR, and having some experience with my family and their stories of survival of WW2 and Stalin era, I still found the bok incredible and moving. so did my college-age kids! I would suggest it to more people who are interested in the topic 100%
Great book, very impressed.......1999-09-03
I am greatly impressed with this book. I'm an emigrant from the former USSR, Jew myself, and I thought that I know everything about our life, about the war and the suffering of Soviet Jews from Nazi and from the Soviet Communists. But I discovered so many new facts that I never new. I am amazed how deep the authors understoon the reality of Soviet life. I lived in Belorus for years and didn't even hear anything about mass graves of Jews that are everywhere in this country. We were never told about it! I wish this book will be translated into Russian and Ukranian languages. I remember, that Soviet people can hardly knew who's is Vasily Grossman, one of the greatest writers of the century.
Nazi conduct of the holocaust and Soviet complicity.......1999-05-11
The book is a basic read for anyone interested in the Holocaust, WWII, Soviet life, and Soviet literature. The Garrard's reveal the quality of Grossman's writings and his personal sacrifices in seeing his opus, Life and Fate, published after being smuggled from the USSR. Accounts in the book of Stalingrad, Nazi crimes in Berdichev, and Grossman's slow literary descent into obscurity will be little read by a complacent Western public more interested in Star Wars than in the trauma that real wars have produced in this century. I was moved by the book and enlightened about the enduring spirit of mankind in the face of repression. Highly recommended!!
