John Husar's writings don't only apply to fishermen, hunters, or any denomination of people, but to anyone who loves to experience travels, adventures, or living in general, because he wrote not just about the outdoors, but how extraordinary life is. This book is a must-have for anyone who likes good stories told by an exellent storyteller. And who knows, you might learn somthing. Read it, you won't regret it

Reading this book filled me with inspiration to get out and enjoy the outdoors. John Husar's writing is absolutely poetic. He was an artist who painted with humble words. It's an easy read -you can pick up any page and start from there, because it's a collection of his columns. Thank you for making this book!
After reading a few columns, I took my kids out for a walk in the woods for the first time this year. This book is not just for the fisherman/hunter, it's for anyone who loves the outdoors and appreciates natural beauty. It's timeless and classic. I even gave it to a few friends for Father's Day.

Mr. Husar was an avid hunter and fisherman but this book should appeal to anybody who loves the great outdoors. He didn't write about how to catch big fish but about how to have fun while doing it.
I really like that it's a collection of newspaper columns -- you can grab it and read one or two columns at a time, depending on how much free time you have, or read it straight through.
I'll keep this one on my shelf for a long time.

Much of the book is really a catalog of gun models. The actual text is limited. What is written is well done and informative.

If you love the art of hand embroidery, you MUST own this breathtaking volume. The book itself is a work of art and worthy of a honored position on the coffee table. As a craft book it is flawless. The charming hand drawn instructions are easy to follow and include detailed materials lists. I own and love all of Ms. Nicholas's books, but this one is definitely the crowning glory, I can't wait to see what's next. I know I'm gushing, but really, buy it, you'll see!
A treasured possession.......2004-04-10
This book caught my eye in a shop window, with its beautiful array of beetles on the cover. The designs in the book are stunning, the instructions excellent, and the history and background section intriguing. There is a section with detailed instructions for all the stumpwork beetles on the cover (with stunning photos of the real life creatures), a short section of amazing projects incorporating the stumpwork crawlies, a section on flatwork beetles and a section with miscellaneous other beetle-related projects. The photography is excellent and even the pages are of the most gorgeous silky-strong paper... (I'm rambling!)
Despite being a keen cross-stitcher and beadworker, I had never tried stumpwork before buying this book. I was able to create my first beetle in an evening, with very pleasing results.
I can imagine myself returning to this book again and again for inspiration and to create more amazingly life-like beetles.
A must have for any keen embroiderer.

Wonderfully Dear to Me.......2005-03-02
I found this book to be like my grandmother's cookbook. I don't believe the author ever intended us to exactly copy each block but to personalize them. while there are no guides offered, an experienced quiltmaker can see, from the pictures, how to assemble most blocks. If a square doesn't turn out exactly as pictured, who will chastise you? just have fun and make it your own.

It should be noted that this book comes without instruction. You do get a few pretty pictures . I did not enjoy the feverish prose of the author.
Dear Jane not so Dear.......2003-04-04
Okay, we all are hooked on making these little Dear Jane blocks. I admit I am too! I bought this book at full price and was really disappointed. There are NO detailed instructions for each block. There are some basic introductions in the beginning of the book but they are pretty worthless. The line drawings of the blocks do not tell you how to cut them, if they are able to be paper pieced or that they are different than the picture shown. Several times I made a block only to realize that it did not look like the block in the picture. When I tried to figure out why, I realized the line drawings were WRONG! If you need exact directions and precise patterns for your quilting then this book is not for you. Take a class at your local quilt store. You can get many directions for a couple of rows on the Dear Jane Web site for free. Bottom line, I am glad I have the book, I am a book addict, but given what I know about it now, I would never pay full price for it! I know I am being controversial but I just had to share my 2 cents!

If you have any interest in vintage scrap quilts or quilts of the nineteenth century, this book is for you. I became interested in this book when my local quilt guild chose twelve squares from it
to make for the block of the month auction. The patterns are very
old fashioned, but satisfying.The blocks are tiny. 4 1/2 inches!
There is a photo of the actual quilt which has 225 blocks. Brenda
has drafted out a pattern for each and every one of them. If you know how to enlarge a pattern--many of these patterns would make
a wonderfully unique vintage sampler. Or you may want to use your
favorites to make a crib quilt. Of course, like Jane Stickle, you
could make the entire quilt. It is indeed a masterpiece and would be a way to use up a full scrap bag. And the rest of your life! The author shares much of Jane's history with us in the introduction. I particularly found the inscription on the signature block to be enlightening.
"In war time 1863 pieces 5602 Jane A. Stickle" Although this quilt is inspiring, it is not a fancy piece of art like the Baltimore Album quilts from this period. It is a huge sampler of pieced and applique blocks that might be seen on a quilt made for
the bed and warmth. All 5602 pieces counted and stitched while waiting for a war to end. Even if your interest in quilts is only
to bid on vintage quilts on ebay--studying these squares would help you be able to identify lesser known block patterns from this period. I've browsed this book and read the history many a night in bed before I go to sleep. It's a great quilting book, but a nice documentation of one quilter's history too.

Great Insight To the true story behind the mission.......2006-06-01
Great Book, he tells the reads about the mission, but also the struggle to publish the book that the us goverment tryied to ban and his struggle to fight through the courts. also he talks about is life before the mission in millarty life and as a child. I KNOW MIKE COLBURN PERSONALLY and hearing his story, brings a new light into what the man in the Bravo two zero mission went through.

Mark Coburns account of what happened on that fateful mission is not such a bad story on its own, but if you have read the other books and are familiar with the basic story then you will find it tedious and not as "revealing" as it claims to be. He basically tells the story from his point of view and apart from a few interesting contrasts with McNabs and Ryans books, it doesnt really give the reader more insight into what really happened. It could however be that the actual events were not really as dramatic and "awe-inspiring" as the other members of the patrol made it out to be. We will never know. Either way, more little details about the mission are told and if you are super-interested in the saga then read it. Having said that, i reconmend reading the other books to familiarise yourself because Coburn sometimes assumes the reader has read the other books.

Comprehensive review of the composers life and his music........1998-08-24
Chronological overview of Ravel's life starting with his studies at the Paris Conservatory through his death. Includes complete list of all compositions and discussion of how he went about composing, from conception to sketch to revision and transcription. Interesting anecdotes flesh out his personality: Originally intended to be concert pianist (Faure advised against it, and was right!); did not support French boycott of Axis composers during WWI; highly supportive of young composers; told a young Toscanini he was conducting Bolero ridiculously fast; always the gentleman--accepted criticism constructively. Could use more discussion of Introduction & Allegro, relationship with Debussy, Satie, Vines.

A work for all who love Torah .......2004-12-06
This is a wonderful work for all those who love Torah. It gives a brief life , and some excerpts from the work of the Great Torah commentators. Rabbi Finkel also characterizes and thus illuminates their commentary. Names which students of Torah use all the time here take on new life, and become those of living and suffering human beings. The work is divided into the following sections, 1) Torah 2) Mishnah Talmud and Midrash 3) Halachah 4) Mussar 5) Chasidism 6 ) Philosophy 7) Kabbalah .
There are also pictures of a number of the commentators and this too adds to the pleasure given by this excellent work.
