Excellent book.......2004-12-30

I read this book (borrowed through the library) not because of financial difficulties, but because I wanted to brush up on some technicalities of bankruptcy. In the past I've had clients take bankruptcy and I've had to deal with the bankrutpcy proceedings. Although I do not currently do this sort of work I expect to enter another profession in the future where knowledge of the bankruptcy law and the individual states exemptions will make my job much easier. This book is an excellent overview of the bankrupcty law and I highly recommend it to anybody who is considering taking bankruptcy or deals with bankruptcy either directly or indirectly in their job.

Bankruptcy - Nolo Press guide .......2004-10-20

There are eleven chapters that cover Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcies. A bankruptcy is either liquidation (7) or reorganization (11,12,13). They can last from a few months (7) to several years (11). Chapter 12 pertains to a large debt due to a family farm.

The questions and answers are categorized for Chapter 7 and 13, like the trustee and going to court. The meeting of creditors takes place 20-40 days after you file. My meeting took place a few weeks ago. This is a meeting you must attend and have no input into the date and time it takes place.

Filing the papers costs $209 in California. Once they have been filed all creditors must cease to contact you, utilities will not be disconnected if they were going to be, an eviction will be stopped, foreclosures and judgments get an automatic stay. It is mentioned that in some states loss of driver's license happens because of a liability for damages stemming from an automobile accident. The automatic stay will stop this from occurring as well. If you are dependent on the vehicle for family support filing bankruptcy might be the reason to keep your license.

Filing bankruptcy does not stop the enforcement of child support or alimony. The book goes into this topic in various chapters. Federal, Local and State taxes are not discharged through Chapter 7. Student loans are not covered either, although if you can prove hardship a portion might get discharged.

There is a checklist in a box format that covers each chapter. The back cover has a listing of questions referencing which chapter is covering that topic. There are some cartoon sketches in black and white that take reduce the stress level of this process. The index breaks down all the topics.

It is also recommended that your maiden and married names be cited in your papers. The section with questions about how the bankruptcy affects your personal life discuss employment and living. This should not impact your job and there is no reason why they would know about it, unless your wages were being garnished. This will be listed on your credit report and you will need to be diligent to make sure the creditors report this accurately. Filing for bankruptcy has nothing to do with jail, you did not break the law or lose your right to vote.

Bankruptcy: Is it the right solution to your debt problems will help you learn the schedules, how to pick your exemptions and decide if you are using a paralegal, lawyer or doing the forms yourself. This is a great guide to show you all the necessary documents needed to prepare with examples.

The author is a consumer debt expert. At the end of each chapter is a box to remind you that it is time to fill out the questions in the checklist. Businesses cannot file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy. There is also some information for newly married spouses to determine if both should be named in the bankruptcy.

Great, Fantastic........2002-10-12

This is really a must have. I handled my own chapter 13, start to finish with this one. Even handled the emergency filing to get mean ole nasty pasty creditors that were harassing me intentionally off my case. I was even able to file a complaint with them thru the bankruptcy courts. This book references this, and I called the clerks office, and checked out web sites, and this book gave me the confidence, to file a complaint against these creditors. The interderagatorys are fanstasic. THese really helped me out, at my creditors meetings. I was able to even able to pursue a wage garnishment out of my soon to b X's pay check. This was the only way I was going to keep my stuff. I really enjoyed I must say representing my self. It is really not that hard, and more of u folks out there need to try it. They really don't chew ya up and spit ya out like everyone believes. It was not that stress ful, after everything was filed. Actually, It was nice to bask in the quiteness of the emeregency filing. My phone quit ringing. It was soooo nice. This one belongs rite up there with my bible. It was a thrill I must say to stand in line to file my paper work, schedules, and yes, I even filed a motion.! It was great standing there next to some of my towns high power bankruptcy attorneys. ONly thing, I have to say, when attorneys, start offering free advise, have a pen ready to write. I also learned be nice as pie to the clerks. They are so busy, and swamped with work. U will be glad you had patience. Patience is a virtue on this one as far as filings go. THe creditors meetings went well, I even drafted my own propsals of what I wanted, to happend. I even learned how to contest the amount of my truck, and did so, and requested the interest rate be dropped. I got just what I wanted. It actually was not as a terrible as we are taught in society to think. Oh my she/he file bankruptcy. It was not that bad, and also the bankruptcy court I went to, had a class on how to balance your budget, and it was very informational. Dom't feel bad if you have to do this someday. It happens to the bestest of us. IF you do this is definitely the book you wanna seek. I have compared up to some of the competetions, and I felt this one was the easy one to use. Plainest english. Simplest terms. I didnot feel intimidated at all by this book. This book covered all the bases, and then some. Others books I feel were not as complete as this one was. I researched books and sat down and looked thru them at my local book store. THis one won hands down. I must say, it is flexible, easy to tote with you, easy to put in babys bag, and easy to tote on bike with grocerys, and easy to clean up. I spilled coffee on mine... wipes up great. Good but...........2005-01-18

I am no expert at gi joe collecting but I did not find what I was looking for in this book. It has very nice color pictures but is extremely specific and repetitive. This may seem good for some people but not for me. It does not include the spec for the Deep diver, vehicles and some equipment. Also it does not include many boxes that you can easily see on the net. I do not know if I can rely in its price guide also. The book is mainly focused in showing one pic of single items and in describing the subtle differences between one series and another of the SAME figure in almost all cases. The format is in two column and you have to go reading from the top to bottom and to the top again so it becomes kind of confusing to read at first.
I will conclude that this is a nice book if you are looking for specific information and not if you are looking for a visual aid to see what item goes with what to complete your collection.
If you want it anyway try to find the lowest price.
But anyway do not forget to HAVE FUN!!!

A useful tool.......2002-03-15

A straight-forward catalogue of Joe figures and accessories from the beginning through the 4" era and on to today. Black & white pictures are plentiful. Not the book for blissful page-flipping and reminiscing, but definitely the place to turn for organizing your collection.

Correcting a reviewer.......2000-03-23

I would like to correct a statement made by reviewer Andrew Walls regarding the "official" status of GI Joe: An Official Identification and Price Guide (1964-1999). This book, like others written by Vincent Santelmo on GI Joe, was licensed and the manuscript was reviewed and approved by Hasbro Inc. As Acquisitions Editor at Krause Publications, I was involved in every step of this legal process. I can understand the reviewer's confusion since many publishers don't take the necessary steps nor commit the time and expense to create licensed or "official" books.

Neither Complete, Nor Official.......2000-01-02

This book has some useful information on uniform and figure variations, but it is far from being a complete guide to G.I. Joe. For a more complete reference to every vintage boxed and carded figure and equipment set, check out this authors other book, The Complete Encyclopedia to G.I. Joe (1997 Krause Publications). Although it is primarily black and white, it is the most complete and comprehensive guide to in-package G.I. Joe stuff. When I first heard Vinnie was doing this book, I assumed it would be as complete and comprehensive as his previous book, only in full color, with a focus on individual and out of package stuff. While there are values for individual pieces of equipment, and many sets are photographed out of package, not every set and piece of equipment is covered, mentioned, or even listed in the book. This is obviously not due to a lack of knowledge on the authors part, but may be due to publishing considerations. I can only speculate. Perhaps Vinnie only had a limited number of pages to work with and realized he wouldn't be able to get it all in. If that's the case, perhaps he should have omitted the sections on 1980's and 1990's Joes and focused exclusively on the vintage 60's and 70's stuff. I like the format and the idea of the book, it just seems as if it's only about 1/4 complete. As a supplement to Vinnie's other book, this is okay, but don't expect to gain a comprehensive knowledge of Vintage G.I. Joe from it. This book was not licensed or approved by Hasbro, so the term "Official" in the title is somewhat bogus.

A must GI Joe reference for the "Avid" Joe Collector.......1999-11-17

A very informative and concise detail presentation of the 'Singled Boxed' GI Joe's and the 'Packaged Sets' he was sold with . Wealth of detailling; Right down to the different type screws used on some fiqures. Well done. A 'must have' reference for any serious collector.

Understanding adoption.......2003-02-01

This is a well written and easy to understand book on the issues involved in adoption. Anyone who has adopted, is adopted, or plans to adopt a child will benefit from the insights in this text.

plans other than adoption, need to be made for handicapped.......2001-05-19

Rosenberg is a social worker and adopter. Her field is adoption and she adopted two "blue ribbon" babies at least 30 years ago. Her book provides special insight into the true nature of adoption and who benefits from it.

About half way through the book, after she has discussed her need to adopt and her experiences as an adoption professional she casually addresses what happens to "handicapped," bi-racial and older children who "need" families. She says "other plans need to be made" for these children. She means plans other than adoption.

It doesn't get any better than this if you want to see the naked soul of evil. This book is a well written discription of Rosenberg's personal and professional experiences with adoption.

Well balanced professionally written book on adoption issues.......1997-06-10

This well-balanced book will appeal to a wide range of readers. It provides a well integrated presentation of significant issues of adoption. It discusses developmental tasks of birth parents, adoptive parents and adoptees with commentary on their overlapping issues and intrrelationships. A section on clinical interventions is technical in approach and incorporates developmental stages. The book closes with discussion of legal and social implications. I have spent days searching libraries and data bases for solid information on adoption and life stages. This book is a direct hit for all members of the adoption triad as well as those in the helping professions

WOW! Want to learn about Ornette? Here is your guide........2002-03-31

Simply wonderful. I enjoyed every page of this book and could not wait for the next. Being a huge fan of Ornette's, this was the first attempt of approaching literature based upon him. Forever waiting for his yet to be published (and probably written) book of Harmolodics, I could wait anymore and this book ensured me I shouldn't have.

For the detailed Discography.......2001-01-31

This is a great little book on Coleman. I wish the bio section at the beginning was more detailed (it states that a more representative bio has been written though it appears to be out of print). The section on Coleman's Harmolodic system was very interesting and written in a way that someone with limited knowledge of music theory (i.e. me) could comprehend. The write ups regarding all of Coleman's recordings were fascinating. Where many writers praise everything their subject touches, here the praise and criticism seems to be very objective. Sometimes writers show a preference for either Coleman's acoustic quartet or the electric Prime Time group but Wilson handles each on its own merits.

An excellent guide to this highly significant musician........1999-10-12

Paving the way for some of the later innovative saxophonists such as John Coltrane, Albert Ayler, and others, Ornette Coleman was perhaps the pivotal man on his instrument in the '60's. Wilson's excellent new book brings his music before the reader in a clear, intelligent manner, offering a very accessible account of how Coleman's music works, how it achieves the effects it does, how he altered the rich tradition he had inherited. Perhaps most intriguing is the account of the considerable hostility Coleman originally met with from many critics, and Wilson's attempts to put the differing views into their respective contexts. Coleman's biography is equally fascinating, a unique life which resonates strongly with those intrigued by the idealism associated with the '60's.
