this man was a a head of his time. i have never seen anythig that has come out of the 1800's that looked any thing like this.The photography is great and the biography is good , but the pottery is the best i have ever seen he had great form and great glaze you could not ask any more from a potter

The most unique and most copied potter in the world........1998-10-10

This book has marvelous images of just some of the fine works that George Ohr created. The summaries of his life are correct to some extent but it failed to provide any deatails of his offspring or how they may have carried on the innate artist abilities, this is why I only give it four stars.

Does the author even know ANY women??.......2007-01-20

I don't personally know women like this. Maybe this should be titled "how to get a flighty, fanciful crybaby in bed". The women I know are pretty straightforward, self sufficient and well, pretty logical. I'd like a book on how to appeal to that type of woman - cause this wasn't it. It really didn't give advice. It never really tells you how to get the woman you want but tells the idiotically obvious i.e. don't act like a schmuck, dress well, take a bath. The book is similar to "how to succeed with women" which was a complete farce. The author has a degree in psychology - and we all know what a worthless basket weaving degree that is.

This book delivers! It tells you all you need to know about how to get a woman from a woman's point of view. It's written clearly and logically with good pointers that are really useful. I found it extremely helpful because she writes about all the stuff that guys just don't think about, but which is really important to women. If you're looking for a book on women, this is definitely the one!

Great book, one of the best dating books I have read. I have sometimes trouble understanding women, and considered this an obstacle. This book highlights how successful dating and flirting does not depend on understanding women at all, nor on having a lot of money, or looking perfectly. It gives you tons of useful and fundametal advice and tips for flirting, the first date, the first night, etc. It is easy to read, the style is clear gets right to the point. I really enjoyed reading this book, sometimes it is quite funny, and I recommend it for everybody in the dating scene.

I bought this book thinking that it might have some information that would be useful in meeting women. She just talks in generalities. She talks about taking showers and wearing clean underwear. Things that guys already do and are common sense. What she doesn't talk about is what really works with women.

Porterfield is to Lomax what Boswell was to Johnson........1998-01-22

I just finished LAST CAVALIER and without question consider it the best biography I've read in years. This book may well signal John Lomax's overdue emergence as a national treasure for his collecting and preserving of thousands of cowboy songs including "Home on the Range"--as well as for bringing musical artists like Leadbelly to national attention. Lomax already is a treasure in his home state of Texas. If you're a reading Texan and/or have any interest whatsoever in country or black music, the roots of American folklore, the ambiance of the Texas mileau in the first half of this century, or a profound character study of one of the country's great promoters of native culture, this uncompromising biography was written for you. However, the book transcends regionalism both in the writing and its universal perspective and message. One practically has to go to Flaubert's rendering of Emma Bovary to find such an incisive pyschological study of someone so well-meaning and successful, and yet so flawed, as John Lomax. Porterfield makes his character so relatable and understandable that we can love and hate him at the same time--and even identify with this American original, if only from a distance. The author also renders his impeccably researched material with all the skill and technique of a first-rate novelist. He is as authoratative and compelling in his treatment of Lomax as James Boswell was with Samuel Johnson.

what a horror. this is yet another useless spiral bound book from what in my opinion is a scumbag scam artist. his book is nothing but a continous ad to get you to buy his other yet again worthless stuff. my god, his techniques are terrible, outdated, and he only preys on the hard working class. don't fall for his bull. don't tell me i didn't warn you. his advice is as Cheesey as the spiral binding he uses to bind his books. that should have been my first clue!!!

Through the works she commissioned, personally or via the Coolidge Foundation, and through her aid to musicians who fled to the United States from Hitler's Europe, she had a profound and positive influence on the history of American music. A gifted pianist and promising composer, she was barred from a musical career by the conventions of her social class.
