Magnificent.......2007-05-11

This is a large coffee table book which would grace any table in the world with its magnificent photographs of the tiaras belonging to royalty, the rich and famous and museums. The display of diamonds and precious gemstones is breathtaking, showing the many different styles which came and went in fashion, some delicate and dainty and others, gaudy and cumbersome, but all of them with jewels which are stunning in their beauty. I enjoyed the written descriptions and stories which accompany them as much as the photos, as I hadn't any idea that these magnificent pieces were so often broken up and reassembled to suit a new owner's taste, and the history of the jewels are a lesson in history on their own, with the shape and size of the headpieces reflecting the fashion of the day as well as the prevailing life style of the owner. Even tiaras given by Queen Elizabeth 2 to members of her own family have been altered to suit the taste of the recipient, as one I noticed...the aquamarine and diamond tiara given to Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, has been reduced in size from a full tiara to a more comfortable diadem which sits more easily on the front of the head. This is a book which one could have on a coffee table for years, to browse through and never tire of looking at it.

Oh my God! This is serious eye candy. The photos are huge and clearly detailed. The book is huge. You'll never get through just looking at all the pictures in one sitting. There's lots of good information about the tiaras, too. Considering that you can spend $20 on a paperback with no photos, I would definitely advise you to spring for the $47 for this huge book that has lots of colorful photographs of some of the most amazing jewels in the world. For anyone who has ever wanted to more about the history and the story behind a particular Tiara, or anyone who has been curious about those fabulous jewels of the royals, this book is an absolute MUST HAVE!!! It's completely filled with information and color close-up photographs of THOUSANDS of Tiaras. I haven't been able to put it down since receiving it and I will treasure it as much as I treasure "In Royal Fashion". If you LOVE British history, own "The Queen's Jewels", or are just entirely curious about this facinating subject...you MUST buy this book and treasure it.

A very good history of bookbinding.......2000-06-27

Being a small publisher and bookbinder, I found this book very informative. It covers a wide view of bookbinding going back to the middle ages, right thru the 1950s. Edith Diehl has "been there" and knows all the ins and outs of bookbinding. At first some of the material may seem dated, but this is a manual for restoring books, using the same material and methods of the time period. Anyone who collects books should have this very well written and illustrated manual.

This the best book yet for down to earth answers........1999-07-15

Up to this point, no one has anwsered the questions that this book has. It's the greatest. Better than the doctors by far. Easy to read and gives confidence to the caregiver. I'm am so grateful someone has finally put into words all of the side effects of this disease.

What a horrible waste of money and precious time.......2000-06-27

Luckily, I picked this poorly written book up at the library before buying. The jacket is convincing, as is the fact that the author had 35-36 yrs experience as a journalist etc. But his innumerable errors border on the ridiculous, including his constant referral to the Merv Griffen show as the "Merv Griffeth Show". His commentary is calculating, biased, and just plain nonsensical. PLEASE, don't waste your time!

Porrly Written, Poorly Edited, Poorly Researched........1999-09-08

I have read almost every book and article written on the Judds. There is no way this author did anything but rehash info from other publications. The typos and mis-statements are so bad that I cannot believe that a reputable publisher would print this. At one point the author attributes a quote to Naomi that is actually some lyrics from the song "John Deere Tractor" which the Judds recorded. This book was a total waste of money. I put it down about half way through and have no desire to finish it. I agree that a country music fan's dollars are much better spent on books like "Love Can Build a Bridge" or "Dreaming Out Loud".

Overall a good book to read for Judd fans........1999-02-13

I did enjoy reading this book, but agree with the reader in Virginia, that the story was difficult to follow at times. The editing in this book was far from meeting my expectations. There are several typos and word reversals throughout the book. One thing stated which really baffled me was the author's statment that Naomi was quite upset by Princess Diana's death in 1997 because Naomi and Princess Diana shared the same birthday. Just a few pages prior to that statement it was stated that Naomi's birthday is January 11 and Princess Diana's birthday was July 1. Where did the author get his information on that one? It made me wonder what other information is his book was incorrect.

What a waste of time!!!.......1999-01-22

Given the subject matter -- 3 very successful women and the obstacles they had to overcome -- this book had the potential to be a great read. Unfortunately, it turned out to be barely readable. Not only is the prose plodding and cliche'-ridden. It's difficult to follow. For example. On one page, Naomi's (Dianna's) brother is a 14-year-old dying in 1964. On the next page, he has died in 1965 at the age of 17. Huh??? What really forced me to lay the book down without finishing it was a horrible factual error. The author has Hank Williams dying in 1952. Anyone calling himself a Country Music fan knows Hank died January 1, 1953. For the author of a biography of country music stars not to know that -- or at least research it -- is the ultimate in sloppy reporting. If you want a good country music book, try "Dreaming Out Loud" by Bruce Feiler.

THE JUDDS DO IT AGAIN.......1998-12-14

any story about these extrodinary women is a keeper. this book especially was. it included more on ashley and gave recent details. in my book the judds are #1!!
