Gold Mining in Interior Alaska-what it's REALLY like!.......2000-04-20
I live in interior Alaska and have lived at a gold mine myself, and the story told here is not only interesting, but very true to life. I found it an easy read, an enjoyable story, and a book I know I will keep on my shelf and read again. Otis shares his first-hand view of the life of a miner, and tells his story with all the ups and downs he encounters with a sense of humor. Buy two copies, you'll want to share this one with a friend.

Read it all from the begining or read the last part first and then go back to the different cases to gain a faster review of the book. To those willing to gain an in-depth insight into the auditing process.
From a researcher perspective, the book addresses hot topics in the early 2000s (auditor indepedence, earnings management, and earnings quality), and should be considered as an interesting reference to consider. It also analyses those concepts with a case study methodology.

I just popped on to Amazon to see what other books the author has because this one was so good - saw there were no reviews so thought I would just add my 2c
- detailed and comprehensive
- magnificent colour photos throughout
- every topic, every tool jam packed with gems of tips, it seemed that everything had something new to add
- tells you what, why, how for every tool imaginable
note this is for HAND tools that means hand powered, NOT electric tools held in your hand, we're talking chisels etc.. here, but also things such as vices, sharpening stones etc.. etc.. it covers all the traditional tools.
very good, well worth a look, even if you experienced it is a good read, and if you are a beginner, well it is excellent

There Are Better Books Available.......2007-03-05
Korn's book is a somewhat helpful introduction to various hand tools, though it focuses more on listing, defining, and classifying hand tools than it does on showing how to effectively use each tool. He does give information about use, though it is often more basic than the serious hand tool enthusiast needs. I suspect that Korn is accustomed to using woodworking machines and that hand tools are secondary in his workshop. Also disappointing is the fact that he is not always aware of the potential advantages of older tool designs. For instance, he claims that the leg vise has no advantages over other types of bench vise, though many other woodworkers have suggested that this is not true, the leg vise being especially suited to heavy pounding, as well as being cheaper to buy and easy to install (much of which he would know if he were aware of the tool's history as a blacksmith's vise). He also lists the sloyd knife, a Scandinavian carving knife, under "marking knives" when it is clearly a carving knife that might occasionally be used for marking--a quick perusal of something like Drew Langsner's _Country Woodcraft_ would have corrected his mistake. He also ought to have read Roy Underhill's Woodwright series to round out his bibliography. Korn does include a helpful overview of sharpening methods in one of his appendices. If one were to buy only a few books on hand tools, this would not be a first choice. It contains some good information from an experienced woodworker, but on the whole there are more detailed treatments of hand tools available in print. Try Aldren Watson's _Hand Tools: Their Ways and Workings_ for a more thorough and engaging treatment of the topic.
The Missing Manual.......2006-07-11
This book outlines various tools that usually don't contain a manual (like a file, rasp chisel, etc..)
What could have been a boring reference was actually a decent read.
I own another one of Korn's books and he has a good writing style. Though certainly not required woodworking reading, it is a worthy addition to my shelf.
The Woodworker's Guide to Hand Tools.......2001-08-07
This is an excellent introductory book for someone new to woodworking, or some one new to hand tools. In fact, I would strongly encourage someone new to woodworking to read this book first and learn as much as they can about using hand tools prior to spending any money on power tools. Some of the tools and techniques are obviously obselete given the development of power tools, but read on. You will be a better craftsman for it. The illustrations in the book are clear and well thought out and I have found them to be very useful. This book would also make an excellent gift for a young person interested in woodworking, but unsure of where to begin.
Worth owning if you're a woodworker.......1999-02-02
Many of the books on woodworking with hand tools were written many years ago. Also they typically concentrate on technique rather than the actual tools. This book is different in that it's modern (even mentioning internet mailing lists and newsgroups for woodworking and tools), and it covers how to select the tools you buy. The book grew on me over time and I'm amazed at how often I return to consult it. I own most of the books in print on the subject but this one is a favourite.

A great resource for men in divorce!.......2005-08-14
There aren't too many divorce books written to help men. But this one is a must read for anyone thinking of divorce, in the middle of divorce or trying to cope with life after divorce. I wish I had this book 10 years ago when I went through my divorce. It would have saved me thousands of dollars and given me everything I needed to get on with my health and sanity and finances intact. The way divorce usually goes nowadays, men desperately need this book. It's easy to read and has great advice mixed with some humor and social commentary that was dead-on. I highly recommend it. I've already bought three copies to give to friends.
What a great resorce for information!!!!.......2005-08-12
I bought this book for my brother and he tells me that it has helped him on what he needs to do to get joint custody of his kids. He has never been a reader but has read this book 2 times and I can tell he feels better, and knows that his ex-wife to be, was going to take him to the cleaners if he didn't read this book. Thank you so much for helping my brother with his soon to be divorce and because of this I will be able to spoil my neices that I love so much.
Ultimate Man's Guide does it again...........2005-08-10
About a year and a half ago I heard these guys on a local radio show talking about Internet Dating and I bought their book. I found love on the Internet with help from The Ultimate Man's Guide To Internet Dating.
Now I hear them last month talking about divorce!! My best friend was about to divorce his wife of 3 years and to be honest with you he wasn't the same guy he used to be. I figured that if they helped me find love they could help him with his divorce. I bought this book for my buddy and he has done a 360. I never liked his wife and my girlfriend didn't like her either. She always nagged him and was not a nice person. He was like a zombie because of her!!! Now he's empowered and no longer has his head buried in the sand. He and his wife are getting divorced but he won't be shelling out thousands of dollars to a lawyer because of this book. Thank you again Ultimate Man's Guide, I now have my best friend back!!

I purchased this book because it appealed to my interest in Jewish history, and because I thought perhaps it also discussed the historical relationships of Muslims and non-Muslims in the Caucasus in the late 19th century. (Not to mention its low price.)
Alas, David Toback (or rather, his grand-daughter, who adapted the book from his 1888 and 1889 journals) only once mentioned the Caucasus Muslim communities, despite travels over several years of extreme duress. This consequence stemmed from his apparent lack of contact with Muslims, however, undoubtedly not from their respect for dhimmis around them.
In any case, Toback's saga has much to hold the reader's interest in its own right, and I was delighted with the book, which I tore through in one marathon four-hour sitting last summer. Toback relates, after all, the extreme poverty of the Jewish communities during those times, their pious, even righteous religious orthodoxy, and the afflictions imposed upon them by hateful tsarist troops, peasants and lawmakers, who deprived Jews of lives, liberty and property at their routine whim.
Certainly in current times, one cannot say that Jews anywhere in the world live wholly without fear and some concern about the future, as anti-Antisemitism has made a frightening and extraordinary comeback only 60 years after the liberation of Auschwitz and 50 years after 1 million Jews were driven with nothing but the clothes on their backs from their homes and businesses within the Arab Muslim world.
Despite the recent turn of events, however, this book provides a very real reminder that things can always be worse. Indeed for David Toback, they almost always did get worse, until he finally convinced his wife to flee to the US., a feat which took several years to accomplish.
In truth, there is not so much difference between the attacks, firebombings, murders and forced evacuations suffered by Toback's people and family and the situation of Jewish people today in Israel and France and in Moscow and the Caucasus, where Muslim fundamentalists think nothing of blowing up pizza parlors, buses, theaters and schools.
A question this book raised for me is why North American Jews remain so complacent. This book showed the perilous possibilities that can and do sometimes flow from ignoring the past and the trends of one's times.

My namesake had a cool life.......2001-02-13
When I first picked up this book it was a gimmick because I had the same name. But then I started reading and reading and reading. I just could not put it down. This book is a wonderful description of Jewish life at the turn of last century. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who likes a good book.
