A very nice Tribute.......2006-03-02

This book was a well done epitaph to Dave Sanders. It was touching.Although I've been heavily into Columbine since 1999, I have to admit that I knew very little about Mr. Sanders.Here he is portrayed from several different perspectives. Husband,Father, Teacher, Coach, Colleague and Friend. It gives you a nice well fleshed out portrait of who he was and how he lived his life.There doesn't seem to be a lot of info about him personally out there so its good that a book was written with the memories and experiences of those that knew him well.

From reading this book a few days ago, I have to say that this is a excellent book surroung the life of a man who died at Columbine almost 6 years ago and I thought that this was a good exple of a life well lived.

As that his family are among the very few that I respect as a result from what happened at Columbine(with regards to their actions as well as their attitude since what happened), I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who want to know more about Dave Sanders and his life.

If all ordinary people lived in extraordinary ways like this man, the world would be a better place. There is a piece of all of us in this book.

Chicago Chronicles vol. 3 is a decent source for a campaing in chicago, and the added section on milwaukee adds an extra setting. But this volume has rather useless information and things are repeated. the book is tedious and not at all as usefull as the other 2 for shicago by night, but the milwaukee section makes it at least worthwhile. I recommend gamemasters using chicago buy the first 2 books, Chicago Chronicles vol. 1 and 2, but the third is only necessary if you want an added area like milwaukee.

This is one of the only software books I've read cover to cover. It makes sense, it tells you thing in the right order: It gives you the big picture then goes into detail.

The authors are smart and this book makes you smart like them.

I went 15 years rarely using but not really understanding or trusting CVS. Now I run my own subversion server and love it.

This is your book.

From beginner to expert in VCS, this view into the Subversion solution will be the only thing you need on your shelf (unless you need extremely advanced/complicated setups). The book covers the basics and general administrative techniques/skills required for your day-to-day needs. It also covers, quite well, the setup of the core system (daemon running, HTTP-cooperative running, tunneling, etc.).

Definitely recommended for everyone.

This book is the book you need.......2006-07-05

If you want to understand subversion, this book will take you through all aspects and it will give you the knowledge you need to plan your own implementation.

The online version is good and for things you would like to have a better solution than what the book describes, looking them up in the current online book may show that the feature you wanted has already been implemented. However, the value of having your own paperback version cannot be overstated if you need to know the product well or you're responsible for planning an implementation of it.

A must for anyone wanting to install, administer, or learn subversion.......2006-06-27

let me first point out two of the weak points of the book, and then tell you how great this book is.

The first weak point is the absence of installation instructions. The book tells you need subversion, but it does not say anything on what packages you need, what it depends on, or if you have to configure anything after you get the package. Who would have thunk that the subversion client package also installs everything you need to setup a server. There is no configure, or at least I did not think it was explained clearly that there is no such thing as configuring and installing for subversion (which would justify the absence from the book). For any person who installed a service, let it be Apache or an FTP server, you would know that you had to install the software and then configure some file in /etc. This is not how subversion works, and the book fails to mention that.

The second thing wrong with the book is its organization. I wanted to setup subversion, but that is in chapter 6, which of course assumes that you understood some of the concepts presented in chapters 2 and 3. Similarly, chapters 2 and 3 assume that you to have subversion installed (at least if you want to try out the commands yourself). There is however a couple of pages on how to get subversion set up in chapter 1, but without understanding chapters 2 and 3 it would be hopeless to try.

Besides those two points this book is a must for anyone wanting to install, administer, or learn subversion. The book is written well and the concepts are presented clearly.

Whitehead presents a collection of recent fieldwork and the latest theoretical perspectives that illuminate how a range of Native communities in the Amazon River basin, and those they encounter, use the past to make sense of their world and themselves. In recent decades, scholars have become increasingly aware of the role the past plays in the construction of culture and identity. Not only can the past be represented and codified overtly in various ways and media as a history, it also operates more fundamentally and pervasively in cultures as a mode of consciousness or way of thinking about the world, a historicity.

In addition to examining the particular foundations and significance of history and historicity in such communities as the Guajá, Wapishana, Dekuana, and Patamuna, the contributors to this volume consider more broadly how different natural and cultural features can help shape historical consciousness: landscape and territory; rituals such as feasting; genealogy and kinship; and even the practice of archaeology. Also of interest are activist uses of historicity to promote and legitimize the cultural integrity and political agendas of Native communities, especially in contact situations past and present where multiple and often competing forms of history and historicity play important political roles in articulating relations between colonizers and the colonized.

As this volume makes clear, understanding the powerful cultural role of the past helps scholars better appreciate the inherent dynamic quality of all cultures and recognize a rich resource of agency that can be used both to comprehend and to transform the present.

Lacking important references.......2003-07-22

Although the title says Amazonia, a lot of the content pertains to Orinoquia. Prospective buyers should be aware that a recent volume of Ethnohistory (also edited by Whitehead) contains much of the same material (by some of the same authors). The biggest problem that I had with the book is that very important recent work done among some of the native groups mentioned in the text is totally ommitted in the references. It seems like a collection of friends got together to write this book and dismiss the work of other good and emerging scholars. One of the important lessons taught to all graduate students is to cite the work of others, particularly when it is relevant. This work is careless in its review of the current literature and contains some factual errors that specialists will have no problem detecting. I found that it offered nothing new.

Don't depend on Social Security for retirment.......1998-11-21

It is probably a good bet that most Americans do not have the slightest idea what they will need when they retire. This book actually show how easy it is to get started on retirement planning. Mr. Williamson gives interesting facts on long term investing and backs them up with easy to read charts and graphs. You will be amazed how fast you can accumulate a nice sum of money if you commit to a plan, particularly, taking full advantage of that 8th wonder of the world...compounding interest! I feel this is one of those books that should be read by all baby-boomers and passed on to their kids.

I read it and couldn't put it down. I cried, I laughed. I understood for the first time what the Hmong did for this country and how we left them to die alone. Are we doing this to our allies today?

I spent two tours doing what this book is all about, and over the years there are alot of time gaps, dates, buddies, and names that just fadded over the years. This book put me back in the right seat, same planes, and on the same missions. From Phu Bai, to Udorn, and Thuay Hue, Bob Curry tells it as it was being an enlisted man in an officers world! A great book that placed me right over the PDJ 35 years ago, to returning home to the same welcomeing that so many of us recieved. Well worth your reading time!

Don't Buy This Book!.......2001-08-29

This book is lacking in substance. The text only contains 14 pages of information -all of it so superficial that it is of no substantive value. The remaining 60 pages consist of 3 appendices that are nothing more than sample condominium declarations, rules and bylaws. This, the lion's share of the book, is given without any guidance definition or analysis. This book reads like it was written in one afternoon and it probably was. To add to the this insult, the construction of the book is in keeping with the lack of serious content. It appears to have been made on a plain paper copier with 8.5X 11" paper bound only by two staples.
