Great old west black powder and cowboy gun info!.......2005-02-09

This book is what appears to be a compilation of SHOOT MAGAZINE's different articles. It is all black and white with the exception of a few full page inside cover ads. Material is similar to "GUNS of the Old West" Magazine, but the articles (chapters) are more in depth and has more about actual shooting experiences than just reviews of various guns. Also includes some black powder cartridge reloading info, which seems very hard to come by if you don't shoot long range rifle matches. Normally I am hesitant to buy magazine compilation "books", but the quality and variety of info in this book make it well worth even the full cover price. GREAT book for those getting into black powder shooting - especially those interested in Cowboy Action type shooting. People who enjoy reading about "old west" guns and related history will find it a good read as well. It may be slightly less useful to those solely interested in long range single shot black powder range matches, as there are better sources for that type of info.

"Frank Lloyd Wright's Dining Rooms," by Carla Lind, is one of a series of "mini-books," each of which spotlights a particular facet of Wright's amazing career. This volume contains many excellent full color photographs of dining rooms and furniture designed by the master architect. Other useful features in the book are Lind's interesting text, a series of sidebar quotes from Wright and others, and a bibliography.

Lind describes how Wright's dining rooms, over the course of his career, mirrored societal changes. Houses pictured in the book include the Rosenbaum house, Taliesin West, Fallingwater, and others. Each photo demonstrates Wright's mastery of color, space, form, and light. If you are interested in the work of Wright or in home design in general, you might really enjoy this book.

For Frank Lloyd Wright fans, this book is a must........1999-01-13

My wife and I are big fans of Arts and Crafts decor and are currently planning to build a timber frame home in which the designs seen in this book will definitely be an influence on our design. The interiors in the book are warm and inviting and are definitely not run of the mill. For Frank Lloyd Wright fans, this should be a part of your collection.

From the perspective of a parent of four children under 13, this book tells it like it REALLY IS! In thinking back to before we had children, I can honestly say that I would have read and benefitted from it, because I saw so much that I recognized from my childhood that I could relate to. There are lots of 'ahas' in this book. The solutions are common sense and eminently 'do-able'. There is no way to recommend it enough.

Hilmar’s adoptive mother discovers he is a Jew, and (despite his being a dutiful, even loving, son) when the opportunity arises denounces him to the Gestapo. Hilmar’s increasingly desperate attempts to escape deportation and stay with the woman with whom he has fallen in love prove futile. He finally falls victim to the machinery of oppression and is sent to Auschwitz.

What wonderful book, written with humor, insight and wonderful descriptions of life in Vietnam. My eyes have been opened to a new culture. It is so easy to forget that the people of Vietnam - before and after the Vietnam War - are just that...people. And this book brings a new awareness to life on the continent of Southeast Asia. I highly recommend this book, for its easy reading style and very entertaining discriptions.

heart and soul.......2000-09-25

Marjorie Doughty has written a book with heart and soul. Her memoirs are not so much the accounts of battles and bodies, they are the insight of a woman "from a rather unusual perspective". I recommend this book even to soldiers who have served in Vietnam to see the "other side".

The other side of a war.......1999-12-24

I got to read this book early because I designed it. That is my business. I rarely comment on any of the many books I design, but I was especially taken with this particular book. I felt the need to speak up because of the many unhappy feelings which I have had about Viet Nam all these years. I lost many friends there.

This book shows the human, non-combat side of that unhappy period in our national experience. The people are made somehow more human by showing, as the author does, those people in ordinary activities rather than at war. With compassion.

It's a very touching and healing work done by a master storyteller. A very worthwhile read for anyone whose life was changed in any way by that war.
