I've just finished to read this manga... I really liked it! Character design is very fine and detailed, the plot is the kind one that makes you smile. Those images I loved the most where just one of the main characters was drawn in his full beauty; you can find a lot of these throughout the manga. If you love school boys and their innocent way of looking at love, don't miss this yaoi!

Flimsy and Disgusting.......2006-04-25

The first volume of "Selfish Love," while still kind of repetitive and poorly characterized, wasn't as bad as the second one. In this volume, thankfully the last one in the series, the main characters continue to fight outwardly while inwardly "loving" each other. The lowest point in the already low plot is when Orita ("the bigger one") rapes Ryuya ("the smaller one") because, of course, Ryuya "really wanted it." Other than that, the story is boring, nothing really happens except that the characters are "in love" and some something or other having to do with school kind of barely figures in. Basically, this title made me sick.

I enjoyed reading Orito and Ryuya's story almost as much as I enjoyed looking at them. The whole idea of someone falling in love with their "tormentor" is just angsty enough to overshadow the silly sides that occur. The silliness thrown in doesn't take away from the main story too much. I think fans of this genre will enjoy both books in this series. There are a couple of nice side stories too(completely unrelated).

Heartbroken that the book is now out of print!.......2001-04-03

Sex, Violence and Power in Sports is a compelation of short articles written by the authors (and others) with such diverse topics as locker room talk, what can be said about a society whose fascination with sports is a direct correlate of how much blood is spilled during the game, and the inside-outside dillema of homosexual atheletes. This in itself is somewhat new--few sociologists have attempted to tackle (no pun intended) the subject of the athletic subculture. What's more new, however, is the feminist slant the authors have taken to explain the culture of athletes as part of the larger patriarchy. Sure, it's a weighty book, and its suggestions that athletics are "deviogenic" would be denied by all well-socialized athletes, but it is well worth the read.

This is a must have if you want to run a campaign in the DS9 portion of the terrific game by Unicorn. It contains a gamemaster screen with tables for weapons, movement, maneuvers and more. It also contains a book which helps to develop a good story line with excellant background info on Bajorians, Cardies, and Ferengi. If you don't have it...get it. I love mine.

I am very proficent at Excel and thought that Access would be somewhat similar. I was wrong, Access is proving to be a difficult learn for me. I have learned enough to know that Access is a better way but I am still struggling. I bought Video Professor CD and it was adequate but lacks the reference material that an average learner like myself needs. This book has helped me tremendously! I am currently on Chapter 5 (of 10) and it is beginning to come together. The book, I believe, is for beginners but will handle most issues right up to intermediate needs.

Not Much Depth.......2007-03-08

While Quicksteps covers the basics, I found it shallow, not well organized and a very weak index. If you are starting a database from scratch, it will work you through it, but it was not much help where I wanted to convert several databses to Access. Inexpensive, but worth it.

there is nothing wrong with this book as a real introductory book for Access at such low price, but I guess anyone who want to buy an Access book need sth more in depth. I would personally recommend Access for Dummies, which is the second book I bought for self-study.

This book, and its previous editions are amazing. The only textbook I've actually used from college. This is my second purchase of this book, because the first was so used and loved it fell apart. In fact I couldn't be without it! The science department of the private school, in which I work, is planning to buy it so they have it as a copy for their curriculum planning. Increased My Sense of Awe.......2003-09-18

In travels through faerie sanctuaries and other exotic lands, I've enjoyed the company of many unusual personalities. One of the most memorable is Tobias Schneebaum. Reading his latest book, Secret Places, has increased my sense of awe at the uniqueness of this man.

Toby's fame results largely from a brief encounter (an unpleasantly personal encounter) with cannibalism in the 1950s. His free-wheeling explorations of the Amazon region, searching for a life more meaningful than accumulating money and possessions, led to an extended visit with the little-known Akarama tribe. Toby bonded strongly with the indigenous tribal men, who had little or no experience of modern culture. He found himself embraced as a temporary memory of the tribe, and was included both in headhunting expeditions and same-sex celebrations of body and spirit. On one occasion, a traditional ceremony culminated in eating the heart of a captured warrior from a neighboring tribe; it would have been impolite (and probably dangerous) to decline.

His first book chronicling these and other adventures, Keep The River On Your Right, was published in 1969, and the book soon became a cult classic. Schneebaum became a rather unlikely, and somewhat notorious, celebrity. (Recently, the story has been retold and updated in a fascinating documentary film of the same name, now available on DVD and video - highly recommended.)
Toby's latest book, Secret Places, is one of a series of gay and Lesbian autobiographies from the University of Wisconsin Press. About half the book consists of detailed and fascinating stories of Toby's adventures with the Asmat people of New Guinea. It is probably no coincidence that he describes Asmat stories and myths as "not following any particular pattern. They do not have a beginning; they do not have an ending." My perception may be colored by the way I met the author a few years ago at a dinner party in New York, but to me, the book reads like a transcribed dinner conversation. Unlike any other autobiography I've read, the style is remarkably non-linear. For example, details are often repeated from prior pages as if brand new, as they might be in casual conversation. I found this loose approach unusual, and most enjoyable.

Jumping forward and backward in time and space, incorporating stories of his religious Jewish childhood, of New York friends succumbing to mid-80s AIDS, of aboriginal lovers in faraway lands, of missionaries bringing permanent change to ancient cultures, Toby regales the reader with episodes of his remarkable life. He is struck by the similarity between Catholic communion - eating the body and drinking the blood of Christ - and ritual cannibalism - eating the body and drinking the blood of conquered warriors. He chronicles a multinational company's bull-in-china-shop destruction of untouched wilderness among the Asmat, in an oblivious attempt to drill oil where only water exists. And he mourns the inevitable shift in artistic style among Asmat woodcarvers, from subtle hand-tooled techniques passed down from uncountable generations, to pretty but "soulless" items more easily sold to tourists for easy packing in their luggage or shipping home as excess baggage.
Toby's book is a small but generous gift, offering a glimpse into cultures and climes few will ever experience (and none will experience in the state of preservation that still existed at the time of his youth). It is thrilling to read about Toby's apparently fearless adventures, to enjoy them vicariously through his memoirs. Don't miss this book, and if you ever get the chance to hang out and chat with 80-something Tobias Schneebaum, it will be time well spent.

Although not a comprehensive listing of the ladies who sing with the band, this is certainly a good enough effort to receive three stars in my estimation. I did enjoy reading the text and I'm sure that I will keep referring to it from time to time. Well done.

Intertaining, Informative, and Lots of Laughs.......2001-01-14

I know the author, and I love music. I find that she writes very much the way she talks; in a down to earth manner with a punch line at the end of every paragraph. She has a way of looking at events of the past with a philosophical attitude and with reflective humor. I caught myself reading a majority of her book with a grin on my face. Even the most tragic circumstances that she describes are examined with that humorous, philosophical approach. Events are just described, are "enlightened" -- so to speak.

She describes well the hard life of playing the role of a lady singer in a jazz band, the fun of being with some of the best names in the business, and how this whole experience shaped her life. Her feeling of being lucky do what has been a fulfillment of a life's dream while associating with some of the greatest names in Jazz and the music industry of this period permeates the book. This is true even when she describes the details of suffering through the some of the hardships of a musical career. Her philosophical summary in the last chapter of the book was touching and wonderful to read.

Betty has included some excellent source material in her book including names, dates, and photographs of many famous jazz musicians of the 20th century.
