Absolutely wonderful project book.......2007-03-02

I received this book as a birthday gift along with Celtic Art In Cross Stitch by Barbara Hammet. Although both are good, I can tell already that this one is going to be the source of many more projects. There are nearly 70 designs in this book, most very adaptable to a variety of uses. Phillipson provides a refreshingly wide variety of designs, not just a few variations on a few primary themes, plus a wide variety of ideas for utilizing them -- and they're all stunningly beautiful and well-done. There's a wide range of color variations between projects, and the colors chosen for individual projects are very appropriate, both historically and aesthetically, for their motifs. She also provides plenty of detailed tips and interesting background information on where the designs originated. All in all, this is an excellent book, and I'm definitely going to get a great deal of use out of it!

A wonderful source of celtic designs.......2007-01-08

This is a book for both the cross stitch beginner as well as more experienced stitchers looking for inspiration. There is a lovely mix of simple motifs, as well as more challenging pieces inspired by the Book of Kells.

The book is a delight to leaf through, and many of the designs (especially the knotwork) lend themselves to other projects. For example: I've worked a number of the knots (in silk on linen) as bookmarks for gifts.

Easy and imaginative cross-stitch designs.......2005-05-27

To me, this book came as an esthetic relief. Tired of flowers, I was thrilled to discover elegant minimalism of this book. All designs are tastefull and come accompanied with a discription of where the design came from - helmets, scabbards,torques. It includes apstract borders and small images for stitching where you please, along with several more complicated images of celtic animals, human faces and such, that look marvellous when framed. Recommended for beginners (charts are in color and easy to read) and for more experienced stitchers because this collection is far from dull.

I've received this book from Amazon only a few days ago but I am already copying one of the projects.
I find this book to be very useful and interesting: the patterns are original, not repetitive and they are fully explained. Each of them comes with explanation about what kind of colour to use (a useful conversion table among different brands of cotton is printed at the end of the book), how many stitches it is in width and length, the overall dimension and a lot of useful information to start your project immediately and correctly.
Quick information about how to x stitch is provided at the beginning of the book so, in my opinion, it is a good deal also for total beginners.
I am very glad of my choice and I think I will copy a lot of patterns from this book.

A beautiful collection of celtic treasures.......2001-04-03

Carol Phillipson has put together a wonderful book full of craft ideas. Her patterns are based on many different examples of Celtic art. While you will find knotwork and other borders here, you'll also find animal forms, an illuminated alphabet and various unexpected designs taken from jewelry, manuscripts and stonework. Phillipson includes several ideas for the use of each pattern, as well as giving the reader an idea where the pattern came from. All in all, a delightful, as well as useful, book for any stitcher.

This book is for those that understand stitchery with ease. The designs are really good to use with anything, even making bookmarks. This book is for the advanced cross stitcher, or embroiderer.

I like the designs, but the total black and white with tiny blocks makes the patterns hard to read. The designs are good, but lacking in color, so if you feel like playing around with them a bit, this is a great book - especially considering the price. Otherwise, I'd probably recommend staying away from it and going with a more expensive, though much more readable and more colorful alternative.

This book has many different designs available. The designs can be a bit small, and a bit difficult to read. I highly recommend taking these charts and enlarging them before starting work on them. There are a great variety in designs, some will take a while to complete, while others can be completed in much less time.

Very good, but not great...........2000-07-02

If you're a true fan of Celtic art, you'll probably enjoy these patterns, but be warned; these will not appeal to everyone. Some of the patterns are outstanding in their design; others are just dull. While the interesting patterns out-number the boring ones, the color choices are bland (unless you really LOVE earth tones) and some of the charts are made up of too few stitches to represent the original designs. Still, if these things don't bother you, I strongly recommend this title.

True Brotherhood.......2004-04-27

The Williams Brothers have been my all-time favorite male gospel group for about as long as I can remember. I read this heartwarming story when it came out back in 1999 and have since re-read it. I love the biographical voice of this book and it allows fans (such as myself) to get a feel of where these dynamic singers and entertainers come from and how they got to where they are. I had the opportunity to meet this group and spend a little time chatting and taking photos with them back in 1996 in Valdosta, GA. Aside from having talent to spare, they are also very inspirational and have absolute magnetic personalities. This book is a must-have for any Williams Brothers fan.

I am a true fan of the Williams Brothers. I grew up with nine sisters and two brothers. I have every record, tape, CD, they recorded. My father was a minister,and I was raised up the old fashion way. I just purchased the book and I know it is a very good one. I have been to several of their concerts in North Carolina and have met them in person. I admire them for the old fashion up bringing and you can tell, by the music, they are true believers in the ALMIGHTY GOD. They have truly been BLESSED. Henry Green, Where Are You.......2000-12-13

This is a wonderful book that chronicles life as seen through the eyes of Doug and Melvin. I would very much like to have heard more from Henry Green and Leonard Williams regarding the early days in the business. The fact that there was not much dialogue from Henry Green makes one wonder what he has to say and how he viewed the same instances as the other two. I saw pictures of Leonard on the web a month ago when he signed the Jackson Southernaires to his Melendo label. He was my favorite, and it was good to see that he is still gorgeous!!!

Words that replace markers and tombstones.......2005-04-17

Ms.Glasberg has had the courage to dig and relive her unspeakably hellish past. She has performed an everlasting act of kindness by giving thousands of Jews murdered, some sort of dignity. So many of them whithout even a marking to attest that once, not long ago they were part of families and communities full of life. May their memories live forever. As a decendant of a family from the Jewish Community in Chernowitz this book has taught me much of what became of my extended family back then.

Unlike the other books where the concentration camps are well known and they are all the same story, this one is uniqe. Instead of gas chambers and crematoriums the people in Bershad were starved to death and near liberation, they were shot. even after liberation the book is exciting and heartbreaking. do not leave it sitting on the shelves.
