Updated Annually, Good for Optimizing Your Visit.......2004-03-26

This is an good book for Disneyland visitors, especially newcomers. If you're familiar with Disneyland this is NOT an indispensable book, but it will give you some tips and information that you probably weren't aware of. There are plenty of time and money-saving tips, and suggestions for getting the most out of your visit. Disneyland rides, restaurants, and shops are described, with some little-known facts keeping things interesting. However, the book is for fans of the "Magic Kingdom," not detractors, and this is most definitely a tour book, not an expose or even a very critical review. The critiques of the various rides are too uniformly favorable; even the Roger Rabbit Ride in Toontown, a manic ride short on content and fun, and long in wait-time, receives the same generally favorable review as the better rides. To sum, I would have preferred a slightly more opinionated guidebook.

The book also explores the three Disneyland Resort Hotels, as well as surrounding hotels, restaurants, and regional non-Disneyland activities (e.g., two pages on local surfing ands swimming, a nod to rival Knott's Berry Farm, and much more). The book, which is updated annually, includes coupons, and an entire chapter on the relatively new "California Adventure" section.

Even though I thought I knew everything about Disneyland and the rest of the Resort, I found new and interesting things in this book. And now I know so much more, then I did, before I read this book.
Also I think this book is very helpful to a person who has never visited Disneyland, and to the person who visited the park 20 times or more. (Like I have) I do have to say I did find some mistakes in the book, but they were minor. Overall this book is very helpful and is very informitive.

This book has been a staple in my crochet library for a couple of years, since its publication. I think it is a wonderful book, chock full of novel ideas. I have always been happy to select a pattern from it to make for other people's children, but now that I have my own 4-month old daughter, I am thrilled to make these things for her!

I found most of the patterns offered to be blatant retreads of early 1970's fare. The granny sqaures and heavy yarns look cheap and dated to me, not cute. The eyelash yarn bolero and fur trimmed coat are worthy inclusions, but not worth the price of the book. Also I was quite surprised at the lack of finishing information. Correct seaming and finishing can make the difference between a beautiful, handmade heirloom garment and a "tacky homemade" item; surely some time spent explaining the best techniques would be worthwhile?

I pre-ordered this book hoping it would provide lots of ideas and inspiration. The designs are bulky and blocky, and I have two boys and I would not put them in any of these designs. I own the Lesley Stanfield and Betty Barnden books and love them.

Wow, I loved this book at the first sight, believe or not. And it turned out as one of the best book I like to use all the time. It has an equal amount of boys' wears as girls', so I could make them for my son and daughter. The instruction and material list are quite clear and simple to follow on this book, and most of all, you can just find any yarn to make those cute outfits for the little ones. Great book!!

the gr888 thing about this book is that it uses a variety of the newer and sometimes chunkier yarns in its projects. if you know a little about guage and crochet, then it is easy to extrapolate YOUR yarn into a very similar project or pattern and get WONderful results !!! it is often very hard or expensive to duplicate the yarns used in these books, so having the schematics in this book HELPS a lot too. i am very glad i bought this book, as i do lots of crochet for children for my shop, Lovley Things by Capable Hands.
there are projects in here for toddlers as well, and many of the patterns come multi-sized. as far as i am concerned, THIS is the best book out there for babies and toddlers !!!

Unless you are looking for a way for your husband to get a new higher paying job or get a pay raise, this book is not for you. I am currently a stay-at-home mom and absolutely love it, but am looking for a way to boost our income a bit. The whole book is about techniques to find your husband a better job or to ask for a raise if he is underpaid. There is one chapter on small jobs for extra income, but that's it.

I thought this was a great book. It was easy to read and It had lots of helpful techniques and resources including websites and phone numbers to make it easier to increase your income. My wife and I used the info and I did get a raise. I would definitely recommend it. I think the people with negative comments haven't actually read the book or if they have maybe they are too jaded by life to have hope...

This book isn't for women that want to help their husbands make more money. This book is written for women who are wishful thinkers.

As much as women may not want to hear it- supporting their husband means being an effective and productive household manager. It means being willing to defer gratification "wants" in favor not only of more income, but a steadily growing net worth which is the ultimate foundation for financial security. Women (and men) who are a bottomless, insatiable pit of "need" for destructive assets like automobiles, which the whole time you're making interest payments on them, are rapidly depreciating will never get ahead with mere "cheerleading" which seems to be where the advice begins and ends in this book.

Sorry, ladies but telling your husbands daily that they're "Smart enough, good enough, and doggone it- they're worth it" isn't a strategy. It's wishful thinking.

Obviously a lot of the reviews written here are about people's objections to stay-at-home moms, not the book itself. I am a feminist, and there is nothing wrong with helping yourhusband or partner earn more money (man, if you don't like the idea of staying home with your kids, than don't do it-- don't tell people to earn thier own money and let the husband stay home! Geez! Feeling a little insecure about your own choices?)

This book is really a great idea, and not a new idea either. This is the attitude my grandmother had about her husband's work, and she was much more financially stable than most women today. Obviously you want to have your own work skills, bank account, savings account, in case of death or divorce, but for many women who can not possibly do any more penny-pinching, and who either don't want to use up thier time with thier children running a business from home, or are already doing so and could use more money, this is agreat resource.

Good job to the author! Thank you for writing a book about something that us women have been thinking about.

I think this book is worth its price, even on a stay at home mom budget!

Kids have the right to be cared for by people who love them, and I think any book that helps a women or man stay home with thier own children is a great addition. I am going to recommend to my library that they buy this book.

As for the folks who review this book and criticize moms at home, why are you reading tis book in the first place? Seems thou dost protest too much.............

Beyond Scary.......2005-06-23

This book scares me on so many levels I do not know where to start. First, the idea that "the most important decision a couple will make is whether mom stays home" is a warped view of parenting. Yes - the top critical decision in parenting is "how will we care for our children?" But to assume that mom has to stay home to provide good care leaves a lot of great options off the table. It also leaves out important discussion items such as what we will teach our children about faith, virtue, family, work, service, etc.

As an HR professional I find it amusing that the author advises that women work on their husbands resumes and give him advice on how to succeed at work. I have interviewed men like this, worked with men like this, and had the opportunity to layoff men like this. They are not typically the strongest performers. Far better is a man who is managing his own career and can stand on his own two feet. I'm not saying that we don't all need support - certainly I support my DH in his career and he supports me, but we don't ever try to run each other's career. That's a recipe for a toxic marriage.

In terms of mothering, the messages in this book are very dangerous for our daughters. Do you really want to teach them by your example that their key to success in life is finding a "meal ticket" with enough ching that they can live a more leisurely life? Don't marry for love, or because someone is a good decent person who is committed to making the world a better place - marry because someone can give you the life of leisure you want. And who cares how stressful and boring his work is - as long as you get what you want.

Finally, the idea that DH should work longer and harder so mommy can stay home with children is just plain selfish - why should he have to miss out on precious time with his children and cause the children to miss out on time with him? Save your money and your mental energies - invest them in developing your skills and talents so that together as a family unit you can make a great contribution to society.

Do you love your husband but feel tht he's not bringing home enough bacon? Teamwork is the book for you. Joanne Watson tells how to hunt up ways to make your man look good on his resume, how to write that resume,give him tips on his interview and beyond. The book does exactly what it promises to do. However, the reader must decide if her sweet but initially unmotivated man is worth all the effort it will take to get him a better job.

I highly recommend this book for any women who wants to fully support her husband and help him make more money to provide for the family. As a Berlin social reporter in the years leading up to WWII, Bella Fromm mingled with some of the most important and influential members of Hitler's rising Third Reich. Given the Nazis' appreciation for propaganda, this fact alone would be unremarkable, but her writings take on special interest when coupled with the knowledge that she received such access while openly proclaiming her own Jewish background and anti-Nazi sympathies. As she dutifully reported on the countless dinners, galas, and cultural events attended by German high society, Fromm also kept a secret diary that chronicled the seemingly inexplicable growth and horrifying consequences of National Socialism: "It's not curious that all this is beginning to make me feel like a stranger in my own country, that I am beginning to be aware of a feeling of hostility...."

Fearing for her life, Fromm fled Germany in 1938, smuggling her incriminating diary out in separate parcels before she left. First published in 1943, these recollections wear the patina of an Allied effort at public relations, but the prescient accuracy of her dire predictions is intriguing nonetheless. And, while invariably placing herself in the shining glow of absolute moral and ethical integrity, her insightful observations offer an interesting record of the many actions--both heroic and cowardly--she witnessed during this particularly ugly period of mass hysteria. --George Laney

imagine a fashion reporter being in the middle of the nazi takeover. its like 'sex and the city' crossed with a horror movie.

what can i say. a gossip hound who instead of reporting on
stars and celebrities and politicians... revealing their foibles, she instead gives us the gossip on the nazi leaders.
the hypocrisy of their attitudes and philosophy, stands out
like green on yellow. if jon stewart had something to say
about the nazis he might have pointed out the things that
Bella did.

for example, she describes over and over the nazis ability
to appreciate art, but they just dont seem to get it.
they like the look of it, the feeling of being there, but
it doesnt raise anything in them... or does it?
one time, hitler is watching a performance, and he says
'this fellow is wonderful, pity he is a jew'. doesnt
he have jews working for him?

the strangest thing is when she meets hitler. he compliments
her, and she secretly wonders what hed think if only he knew.

yes all the powerful have stupid secrets, things they are
so sure of that are empty and revealed easily by the most
ordinary and unermarkable, at least to the angels of historical bombast and power pretense, of people.

it is simply incredible. she observes these people, goering,
hitler himself, the way youd find ordinary people described
in other books. hitler and the others are not towering figures
they are not titans of anything, she cuts them down
with a few comments about their demeanor or their social
skills, or lack thereof.

the experience of a german citizen , relatively well off,
watching the nazis slowly take over, watching her world
slowly sour and rot around her, is amazing... truly amazing.
there is nothing abstract about the take over, no dates
and facts dryly presented as a history book.

no instead one of the young men workers at her office
gets caught up in the propaganda, joins the SS, and ends
up being murdered because he talked too much about
what they were doing, the evil of their tactics.

imagine the silliest american drama/comedy set in the editorial
offices of the socialite section of a newspaper, then
throw in the take over by the nazis, people disappearing,
and our hero, a normal writer, an unassuming reporter...

her acts of defiance are to help dozens of people escape
by using her social and political connections. and eventually
she has to escape herself, complete with nazi assasins on
her tail, where she finds a new life in america,
starting at the bottom of the economic ladder and trying
to work her way back to normalcy.

i only wish there were a movie of it.
