Great Guide, Great Gift!.......2007-10-14

My son received this from his grandparents when he was going to NYC for the first time. What a great little gem this guide is! It's small, has a pen, a pop-out map, a city guide and a compass on the binding. The pen is lighted as well. Inside are guides to "buying it"...restaurants, parks, you name it. The map is easy to pop out and better yet, goes back together wonderfully. Fits into a backpack or pocket perfectly. Kudos to whomever came up with the design idea!

Snazzy looking and efficient little guide with a compass!!!.......2003-05-28

I love this guide book. I couldn't find my old Streetwise NYC map so I went looking for a new one. This is a cool little book that opens into two sections. The front half is made up of a general view map of Manhattan with the subway. This map opens into 2 awesome fold-out detailed maps with all street names, major points of interest, hotels, shopping...etc. All this in a much smaller format than Streetwise. The back half of the book is a slick guide book. Although it is very abbreviated, I found that it wasn't lacking anything. Many of my favorite spots are mentioned, as well as some that I look forward to checking out.

To top off the neat presentation, the book has a slide out pen and an area to take notes, addresses and numbers...and on the top of the spine is an actual compass the flips out so you can orient yourself with the map. I find that nothing says 'native new yorker' more than whipping out a compass on Park Ave.

I love this book. It's size makes it a discreet reference (except for the compass) that fits in your pocket. It has all the tourist info. So for the price, buy this one and spend the rest on a specific guide for this city (like shopping or dining). Leave the bulky, endless guide books at home.

This anthology presents the results of a comprehensive empirical study of internal control evaluation and auditor judgment initiated by Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in 1977 and originally published as an American Institute of CPAs research monograph in 1981. The research consisted of a series of five field experiments and a related verbal protocol study. The experimental task involved audit program planning given a comprehensive set of audit work-papers. The AICPA monograph was awarded the American Accounting Association Wildman Award in 1982.

The anthology extends the original AICPA monograph in the following ways:

An updated review of the professional literature related to internal control has been integrated into chapter 2. *
The original statistical results that were based primarily on univariate analyses have been augmented by multivariate analyses. *
The process tracing (verbal protocol) results have been revised to include additional decision process analyses and also to include an analysis of the decision criteria utilized by the auditors. *

What a wonderful, beautifully designed book!! It is refreshing to see coverage of ordinary bottles for the new collector and many masterpieces from the past. This broad based coverage by the author is just what was needed for the perfume bottle collecting world. Lost bottles are introduced, Sandwich masterpiece bottles are shown in all their glory. Besides coverage of many "never before shown bottles," the author seeks to educate and spark interest in the wonderful world of collecting perfume bottles

WAAAAAAY Better Books Out There.......2006-03-30

I'm returning this book in disgust. It contains low end examples that even the newest perfume bottle collector would be bored by. In addition, some of it is poorly resaerched and some is just plain WRONG. Even the physical quality of the book is off.. the pages are strangely thin and floppy. Spend the extra money and buy a book by Jackie Jones North or the Lefkowiths...you'll find this book to be neither a good resource nor a good read.

This is such a great book! I didn't know what to do first.
For my annual xmas party I chose to give out the CD with our families favorite music. It was a fun project and everyone loved getting this as a party favor. The Cover had a nostalgic picture and had our family name plus the year. Very happy, and can't wait to get started on this years project.

For the last five years I have been informed by the text of Dr. Konjufu. His books provide a learning foundation for therapist as well as parents. This book illustrates the "must" one should be familiar with when rearing a child. If there should exist such a map which leads us to a promised postive future for our children, then this book should be entered in as the "scale" for the map and the bibliography for the book on how to develop your child.

I have read lots of Joanna Hurwitz's books and i must say this is one of her best. Haddasa [Dossi for short] has nobody but her sister Ruthi and her friend Mimy. Dossi 's parents have passed out and so has her sister . Dossi and Ruthi live in a crowded tenament with just one room too do everything : Eat , Sleap , Sit , Stand ....... Ruthi works in a sewing factory. The tenament smells of sweat and OF COURES They dont have a single toy. When Ruthi signs Dossi up for a Fresh Air Fund ,Dossi objects . But when Dossi starts to like , even befriend the family she is staying with ..............

Dossi is a poor girl who lives in the city.Her parents and younger sister,Velvel have passed away.Dossi's sister,Ruthi is the one who will take care of them.She works in the factory.When Ruthi signs Dossi up to be sent to the country,on a Fresh Air Fund vacation,Dossi is terrified and surprised.Soon,the day had come to go to the country.Dossi packed her bags and brought along a library book which was a new one.She and her friend,Mimi, didn't tell the librarian that Dossi was taking it away.Dossi prommises Ruthi that she will send a postcard to her as soon as she reaches her destination.In the country,she meets the gentile Meade family.Nell and Emma are around Dossi's age.Mr. Meade and Mrs. Meade also have two sons,Timothy and Edward.Nell chats nineteen to a dozen.Emma doesn't.There are a lot of things that Dossi hasn't seen.Like fireflies,cows,two yolks in one egg and many other things.She learns about a man named Snowflake Bentley.He is mad about snowflakes.Snowflake Bentley also takes photos of snowflakes not people.Dossi likes Nell but she wants to befriend Emma too.But Emma treats her like if she is not there.Will Dossi be able to befriend Emma before her holiday in the country ends?

A fast paced novel, good for a rainy afternoon.......2001-05-01

Haddassah (Dossi for short) is a Jewish girl lives in a cramped apartment in New York City. Her sister (Ruthi) signs her up for a Fresh Air Fund which sends poor children too the country for 2 weeks in the summer. Dossi leaves excited and yet afraid to go on vacation with a family she doesn't know in Vermont for 2 weeks. She is stunned by things in the country and doesn't even know what fireflies are. This is one fault that I found with the book, she seems to know NOTHING of the country, now I can believe she's never milked a cow, but some of the things she had never seen are unbelievable. Anyway during the book she sprouts friendship and learns new things of her trip. She meets new people and learns what the lovely countryside is like. This is a really fast paced book, you should be able to finish it within an hour or so, but nonetheless it is worth reading.

A wonderful book about friendship and families.......1998-08-24

This is a good story about a girl who spends a few weeks with a family that is very different from her own. Dossi learns other people have alot to offer her and she has alot to offer in a friendship,too. Hurwitz is a wonderful author; she makes the characters and situation come alive.

This was a great book. It is about Dossi, a poor Jewish orphan from New York City who is able to spend two weeks in August of 1910 in the Vermont countryside through the Fresh Air Fund. Dossi learns about country life from her hosts' two daughters, and Dossi in turn teaches them about city life. I highly reccomend this book.
