I own many F&B collectible dolls----especially the older ones. I refer to this book very often. This book is well written, on very nice paper, and with wonderful photos.

This descriptive book does a wonderful job of cataloging the various Effanbee dolls and their history. Numerous pictures (B&W and color) add tremendously to the value of this book for doll collectors interested in identification (price guides are also included for individual dolls).

I had first checked this book out from my local library but was in jeapordy of racking up huge over due fines so I bought myself a copy. It's invaluable. It is useful for both expert quilters and beginners. It's chock-full of tips that streamlines and makes my quilting easier and looking better.

Tips Galore!.......2000-11-01

This book is the compilation of the expertise of the staff writers from Quilter's Newsletter Magazine and thirty additional well-known and professional quilters. As the Quilting Host at BellaOnline, I have read a number of books on quilting and this is a wonderful book. The information is nicely organized into sections that proceed in the order of how a quilt is constructed, beginning with tips on how to organize your workspace and ending with information on how to care for and display your quilts. There is also a very complete and well organized index at the end of the book so that you can look up specific topics.

The individual chapters are composed of "nuggets" of information with a tagline acknowledging the source of the information. The tips are varied in content and show a great deal of creativity. There are helpful tidbits here for everyone and there are numerous illustrations. The reading is light hearted and pleasant - I thoroughly enjoyed reading through it.

A must for beginning quilters.......2000-02-02

This book is so full of great hints, I can't begin to tell about them. I just open the book at random and read. Every time I find a hint I hadn't even begun to think about needing. Every beginning quilter should read this book.

This was a great find! My five sewing and crafting buddies are fighting me for first rights to read it from cover to cover! Such helpful morsels for the true seamstress and quilter! It is needed genre in the quilting world. Patterns are easy to find in other books but the truly helpful secrets and tips passed from one quilter to another, from one generation to another, can only be found here!

A grave disappointment; stick to the earlier ones.......2001-11-10

I bought this book expecting more of what Alpern has covered in his previous books: more buildings, with more stories, and more floor plans. Instead, while some material is new, quite a few of these buildings have been covered in his earlier books. And there are no floor plans at all. If you are an afficionado of great Manhattan apartment houses, avoid this book and stick with "New York's Fabulous Luxury Apartments" instead.

Evolution of the NYC luxury apartment building.......2001-10-02

This extremely slender, 84-page book covers 20 luxury apartment buildings in New York City, each of which is illustrated by at least one large b&w photograph. For each, the author discusses the building's history and unique features. Buildings covered include the Normandy, San Remo, and Hampshire House. This book has no floor plans, in contrast to Alpern's earlier work, 'New York's Fabulous Luxury Apartments.'

Thinking Before you React- A Helpful Guide to Parenting.......2002-03-24

This book is full of wise, useable, pro-active strategies for taxed parents. Excellent ways for planning and executing conversations about sex, peer related delemas, body-image problems, and discipline for the modern teen are available in this book. It is easy to read a chapter at a time, as various issues arise, and there are many comforting examples of mothers who have gone before you. Even reading the examples of what NOT TO SAY to your teenage daughter in response to various provocations, was very helpful. With all of the difficult moment to moment choices that mothers are forced to confront, it helps to have thought these issues out and taken them apart. The most helpful parenting concept I learned while reading this book is that it is vital to ponder and contain many thoughts and feelings, before reacting, when coping with a teenager. In an astute, good-humored, sympathetic fashion, Roni Cohen-Sandler offers us plenty to consider along the way.

As this year (2007) is Buxtehude's 300th anniversary, this book is a wonderful overview of the sound world in which Buxtehude (and his contemporaries) found themselves with the organbuilding of Schnitger. Lots of photos and specifications really help those of us performing this music on our modern day instruments.
