Great guide to have around.......2007-08-07

I spent about three months in New Zealand earlier this year and found this guide great to have around. I would certainly purchase it only in addition to a more detailed and thorough guidebook for New Zealand (I went with Rough Guide to New Zealand, which I found very detailed and helpful), as it doesn't give you nearly the amount of detail on places to stay and eat and visit as one of those guide books does.

However, for planning scenic drives, it's excellent. We were able to modify its suggestions and itineraries to fit our interests and time constraints- this was made very easy by the detailed maps. I would agree that an overall map of the North and South Island would come in handy, but the detail provided in the numerous smaller maps was much appreciated all the same.

The author goes in detail over several places of interest, and many places that I'm sure I would have missed if they hadn't come up in the guide. It was easy to read, the directions are easy to follow, and it thoroughly added to my experience of New Zealand. A great buy if you are planning a driving holiday through that gorgeous country!

I have read this book for planning our trip to N.Z. and the rating applies to only this aspect. We hope that our actual experience will confirm the numerous recommendations. The area maps are very helpful, but additional, separate maps of the full area of the North and South islands would improve the overall orientation. It took me until the very last page of the book (281) to locate Christchurch!
A minor point (page 181): "It is not the largest wooden building in the southern hemisphere, although that claim is often made; the largest is the Todaiji Temple in Japan." The author does not appear to be aware of the fact that Japan is in the northern hemisphere .... !?

BEAUTIFUL REFERENCE BOOK.......2007-08-08

Don't let the title fool you, Hot Wheels the Ultimate Redline Guide Companion covers much more than just Redlines. It does adhere to the period of 1968 - 1977, but it covers a whole host of Hot Wheels products produced during that period including Chopcycles, Hot Birds, Hot Shots, RRRumblers, SmallShots, Zowees, and a new chapter in this second edition on Gran Toros. As with all every title from Collector Books the production is first rate with very colorful and sharp photography all in a heavy duty hard cover book. The usual matter on things like grading and pricing leads things off before we get into the first of over a dozen different chapters on various Hot Wheels lines and accessories.

Each chapter opens with a bit of history and reference information about that particular line of Hot Wheels such as the year the line was introduced, how many vehicles were in each series, etc...The Gran Toros section is particularly interesting as this joint venture between Mattel and Mebetoys of Italy is largely unknown to all but the most avid Hot Wheels collectors and is a welcome addition to the guide. This is a truly beautiful line featuring vehicles such as the Lamborghini Miura, Mustang Boss 302, Porsche Carrera 10, and the Ferrari P4.

The Sizzlers section shows an overview of the cars and then shows each car on its own page with a large close-up view, and then with several smaller pictures displaying some of the various color variations for each car along with a price grade table for mint loose cars and MIP cars. Each car again features background into on the model, noting specific features about each such if it came with decals or not. It's interesting to note that often there isn't a great deal of difference between the price on a loose mint car and one in the package. It certainly differs by the model and the disparity is greater on the cars which are more rare, of course.

One thing I loved about the Sizzlers section was all the photos of the great accessories such as the various track sets. These show a picture of the packaging along with a checklist of all of the components in the set which is very useful. This book is a great reference title for any level of Hot Wheels collector and the photography is second to none.

Hot Wheels Textbook!.......2006-04-11

This is the very finest volume on the subject -- bar none. Each and every car has a one- or two-page listing, complete with description, history, variations, and values by color. Photos are large and lavish. Hot Wheels playsets, accessories, and collateral merchandise are covered as well. Plus, the book is published in a sturdy library binding. It's well worth the price. You will not need another book about Hot Wheels Redlines.

The best Hot Wheels Redline reference!.......2005-05-31

This book is a must have for any serious Redline collector. It is a beautifully presented hardcover book of almost 400 pages; jam packed with photos, facts and figures for all Hot Wheels models from 1968 to 1977.

Each model has its own page listing colours, variations and values for loose and packaged cars from Hong Kong and the USA. The book also has special sections on Gran Prix, Heavyweights, Sky Show, Spoilers, Carry Cases, Displays, Gift Sets, Playsets, Track Sets, Merchandise, Collector Buttons and more.

I own the Tomart guide, the Schiffer guide and several others and none of them come close the detail and accuracy found in this book.

In a word, "Indispensable!"

Amazing Excellent Beautiful Hot Wheels Book.......2003-11-27

I have read through many Hot Wheel Guides which speculate values. I have left most books on the shelf, but I had to buy this one. This book doesn't focus on the recent peg hangers and doesn't suggest values that no one in their right mind would pay.

Instead this book focuses on the Redlines (1968 - 1977 models with the red strip on the tires). There are many beautiful photos of each of the vehicles, documentation on the variations and colors the vehicles, and realistic values for each of the variations.

I thought about assembling a Hot Wheels reference book for myself as I could not find a book which was detailed, with realistic values, and good photos. I dont have to now as this is exactly what I was looking for.

So for those of you who get sucked in to thinking about by buying a values guide for the current peg hangers, ask yourself "Is someone really going to pay rediculous prices for something at the local store for under a buck?" Maybe within the first couple months of the release the prices will be high, but then the values go kerplop. Maybe in 15 years the values will climb for these current peg hangers.

The redlines are the way to go, and this book is all you need.

Focus On The Early Years.......2002-12-05

Collector Books has finally gotten their wish. After many years of looking, they've finally found an author to assemble a Hot Wheels price guide for them. (...Well, actually two authors.)
Jack Clark and Robert P. Wicker have assembled The Ultimate Redline Guide, a 352-page full-color extravaganza of which Collector Books thought so highly as to make it a hardbound edition. (Edition listed on Amazon.com is in paperback.)

Add this book to the six other Hot Wheels price guides currently on the market. Is there room for a seventh? In this case, yes, without a doubt. The Ultimate Redline Guide focuses on Hot Wheels from that era before Hot Wheels were considered collectible, and are now therefore the most highly prized.

Redline, for those of you just returning from a pre-Seventies alien abduction, refers to the red stripe on early Hot Wheels tires that distinguishes them from later models.

This book offers year-by-year color-coded pages of those important first ten years of Hot Wheels production, in large, definitive photos and sumptuous supporting text. Each page is devoted to a single model and its variations. This book is the definitive guide to the earliest and most valuable Hot Wheels.

Unbelievable!!.......2002-10-21

I knew the moment I held this book it was the only one I would need for Hotwheel Redline information. This book blows the other guides to shame. It's a hardback and will withstand the constant page flipping it will get. The years and series are set in logical order. There are pictures of every redline made and well shot. Detailed history about the cars, and pictures showing the variations are only half of what makes this book THE Redline guide. If you are a collector of Redlines, or any Hotwheels, this is a MUST have! I can only hope that these authors will release other titles soon.

Description:
Several investigations have shown that a huge Late Weichselian ice stream flowed along the Norwegian Channel, and deposited thick debris flow deposits at the North Sea Fan. The development of the channel is probably mainly a result of several cycles of ice stream activity during the Quaternary. A merged 3D seismic image shows a lineated relief pattern interpreted as a uniquely well-preserved footprint of a moving ice sheet. This deep Quaternary horizon corresponds to a slightly irregular reflector on top of a parallel-layered seismic sequence. Seismic tie to the Troll core 8903 south of the study area shows that the sequence comprises Early Middle Pleistocene marine sediments. The pattern of lineations, the seismic stratigraphy, as well as the chronostratigraphic investigations of the Troll core, strongly indicate that the image reflects the initial phase of an extensive Middle Pleistocene glaciation (inferred age ca 0.5Ma), prior to the development of a massive Norwegian Channel Ice Stream. The northwesterly oriented pattern, seen in the southeastern part of the study area, demonstrates that the ice flowed into the channel mainly from the coastal zone north of Bergen. Farther west various sets of 'fan-shaped lineations' partly cross each other, showing that the 3D-image represents a certain short time window. In the northern study area the ice flow was dominantly northwards, and directed towards the area below the present shallow Maloy Plateau. There are no indications that the glaciers north of Sognefjorden affected the marine ice sheet.
