It's a compact guide with everything you want to know of the different locations in Jamaica. It lists the best of Jamaica. I read it from cover to cover while I was in Jamaica. In his first book "Internal Quality System Audits" (no longer in print) Mr. Lewis identified the basic fundamental auditing skills and techniques needed to ensure effective and efficient development, implementation and maintenance of "value added" internal auditing capabilities. Our internal auditing operations have been in place for over four years now and I still find myself referring to this book for guidance on regular bases. It is the most dog-eared of all my books on quality and quality operating systems.

His second book "Internal Quality Systems Auditing" includes and builds on these proven methodologies and has now replaced its dog-eared predecessor as my desk reference. The updated sections on development of audit programs and checklists, documenting audit observations and findings, and audit reporting techniques provide the latest guidance for addressing evolving quality system requirements.

A disappointment.......2005-07-28

When a book to bills itself as the "Official Price Guide" I would expect more. Over the years others have attempted to produce a price guide and due to the vast array of golf collectibles it is a daunting task. Unfortunately, this was one of the weakest eforts to date. The author merely skims over categories and quotes auction results for select items which is hardly what one expect from "The Official Price Guide of Golf Collectibles". The photos are small and poor quality which does not help either. All golf collectors will probably buy it to have in their library but it is definitely not a reference guide.

Cats of the World in Cross Stitch.......2006-08-03

I have other books by Jayne Netley Mayhew and Nicki Wheeler and I like every one of them. So far this is my favorite and I like how some of the designs can be used for needlepoint as well as cross stitch. It has designs with jungle cats as well as domestic cats and it is very hard to pick a favorite. Both ladies work very well with each other. I'm looking forward to their new book this month and want to collect all the books they will make in the future.

Gorgeous designs.......2000-08-05

This book has so many absolutely fabulous designs, it is a joy just to look at. They are almost all rather large and/or ambitious, but I have completed projects from earlier books by the same authors, so I know they turn out to be worth the effort. This book is an absolute must if you like cats (domestic or wild) and cross-stitch! I deduct half a point from the rating because the symbols for the three-quarter cross-stitches are not as clear as they are in, for instance 'Animals in Cross Stich', and another half a point for the colour charts which were much clearer when all the colours were numbered. Now the symbols, and especially the lack of symbols can make determining which colour goes where a little more difficult. Also, it is available only in hardback. Hardback may be more durable, but it makes using the book less practical. But overall a great buy!

I saw this book at a store and thumbed through it. It recommends that Babies sleep on their SIDES using a side positioner. This is erroneous information. The National Institute of Health recommends ( and has for almost 12 years) that babies be placed on their BACKS with NO extra bedding, pillows or paraphernalia in the crib. ( unless a doctor, for medical reasons, recommends otherwise). SIDS is the #1 cause of death for babies under 1 year of age. Safe sleeping practices should warrant more space in a baby book than the incorrect sidebar in this book. It makes me wonder what other information in here is incorrect.

Don't bother...there are much better books out there!.......2002-12-22

I got this as a hand-me-down from a friend. After reading, it I'm pretty sure I know why she didn't want to hang on to it for her next child. There is nothing in the book that was even remotely helpful to me. I would highly recommend that you buy Baby Bargains instead. It is a comprehensive guide for new parents detailing what you do and do not need for your little one. Baby Bargains is not only cheaper, but you'll get a heck of a lot more use out of it that you would from this book.

Useless and High Level Information.......2000-07-03

This book provides such useless information such as the numerology of your baby's birthday and games to play at showers. As an first time expectant mother, this book provided very high level information that was inadequate. The only good thing I got out of it was what to take to the hospital for me and the new baby.

A fun book for expecting your little one!.......2000-02-22

Yes, like you, I've also read WHAT TO EXPECT..., YOUR PREGNANCY WEEK BY WEEK, & THE PREGNANCY BOOK. Much of the material in those books can be, well, a little frightening. THE EVERYTHING GET READY FOR BABY BOOK covers lots of areas from planning a nursery, what you'll want for baby's "layette," lists of names to consider, lullabies, how to feed and bathe baby, playtime, what to pack for your hospital stay, and more. As first time expectant parents, my husband & I enjoyed reading this book together. It's fun - lots of eyecatching graphics and anecdotes - and would always bring a smile and get us excited for baby! This book makes a great gift, too, for expectant friends. We've already shared a copy with three other couples we know awaiting their own newborns. Read the other "hard facts" pregnancy books, too, but if you're looking for some good preparatory information within a light-hearted read, you'll enjoy adding this book to your expectant library. We did!

On the whole this is a "good" book on an intriguing character. Loggins obviously has access to Gottschalk's personal writings, has done his homework and gives a very credible biography on a too-little appreciated American. This book will give you a fairly detailed summary of Gottschalk's life in a straight-forward, plainly written style. There are some embellishments here and there but it is pretty obvious when Loggins is giving his own spin to things (e.g. Gottschalk's Spanish venture and the subsequent damage to his hand).

If you are interested in a readable introduction to a pianist whose life and reputation are as varied and interesting as his music then this is a good place to start.

Gottschalk and his music are very representative of his time. The exuberance of life lived, in the face of ever present threat of disease (yellow fever in particular), shows forth in the passions of nationalistic pride, the charm of social courtesy in a highly stratified culture, the elegance of sophisticated conversation and cultured interaction, which never-the-less was not out of touch with the lower classes, both slave and peasant. Gottschalk's life makes plain that culture can and must recognize social stratification in the context of mutual respect. It argues for the possibility of degrees of sophistication without elitism. We hear that in his music, as the complexity of rhythm and velocity demand the highest levels of virtuosity, yet the melodies are rooted in the common and even elemental strands in the social fabric. His was a life of liberty and his music is democratic to its roots.

In its own way, this book communicates some notion of these things, yet, it could have risen a bit higher than it does. The facts are there but helpful analysis and insights would have broadened its impact. The simplicity of the language and diction somewhat even argue against what Gottschalk's life and music contributed. It lacks elegance and if there is anything we can say about Gottschalk, it must be that in him and his music, elegance was not lacking.

It's a good book.
