Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

We stumbled upon The Pink House book at a museum on Edisto Island where the pink house is. We were staying (renting for the week) in the Pink House at the time and had no idea there was a book about it! It was built in 1934 and is charming. The book was great because we got to bring it back to the pink house and share it with all our friends and family also on vacation. She really hit the nail on the head about making sure we all wore something on our feet while walking to the beach. Beware of stickers!

Great book for reading out lound MANY MANY times as I have to my 4 year old daughter.

It is a pleasant book about a family that goes to the beach and spends a week together every year. It makes the adult reading it long for a family vacation with the idealic family featured in the book - instead of the one most of us probably have.

The pictures are great - We always point to the Aunt, Uncle, Cousin, or Grandma that is featured in the print. I highly recommend it and intend to purchase more of the books by this talented authour/artist.

Our copy is now worn from the nightly reading. The Pink House is our son's favorite request at bedtime. The author spins a warm and loving tale of an extended family on a beach vacation. It teaches relationships of family members and the simple wonders of the beach. The hand sketches of the aunts and uncles in their bathing suites are delightful. Because it is so true to ideal beach vacations, I recommend this book to all families with young children. We even tracked down the real house so our kids could have their picture made in front of THE PINK HOUSE.

An Okay Book.......2005-01-09

This architecture book features a whopping 52 beach houses in Australia. If readers were expecting smaller baches or huts that Australians were accustomed to, think again! The author includes designs from the conventional to the avant garde. Some of beach houses here are massive and they literally can store a whole rugby team and more! Naturally, all these beach houses are built in locations that command great vistas and naturally, would cost a lot of dollars to acquire. All beach houses come with a small brief, a easy to follow layout, and some pictures. An indulgent book to rummage through. There is a useful architect index at the back of the book with their contact information should readers decide to procure their services. Presentation is okay. Personally, I find there are too many houses in this book. It would be wiser to be more selective and condense the book with only a few choices and yet, expanding the depth of the projects such as interviews with the architect and the clients, constraints, and so forth. A bit of tensions and dramas would always heighten the sensations in reading this kind of book. We wouldn't want such book to be dry and uninvolving. In terms of being a coffee table book, it doesn't quite cut it either as it's lacking of that X-factor. Commendable effort but one can't help to think that it can be better.

I just saw this book listed in my local paper and I ordered it right away because I have teens who are difficult to communicate with. Last night I actually sat down with my son and daughter and we watched "Scent of a Woman." We had a great discussion afterwards about cheating, friendships etc. This book was a god send. I recommend it to anyone with children who are tough to talk to. Thank you to the authors for this wonderful addition to our library.

I really like this book! The introduction is extremely helpful and provides a lot of insight into using films within the family structure. A giant step beyond just a movie guide, this book shows parents like me how I can use movies to learn more about my kids. I have a ten year old son who is not the easiest person to talk to, so I'm confident that many of the movies in Talking Pictures will provide the common ground needed for us to have some of those meaningful talks.

Fritz Reiner receives his due honor.......2006-03-17

As Dr. Reiner conducted the first Chicago Symphony Orchestra concert I ever heard, I have held a fond place in my heart towards him. Therefore it is a treat to have this more analytical biography of the musical life of this great Hungarian-American conductor to accompany Philip Hart's 1994 "Fritz Reiner: A Biography", which was rather anecdotal in its approach. Morgan has also blessed us with his detailed information on the Reiner recordings, which for the standard repertoire, as well as for most of the orchestral works of Richard Strauss, and also some surprise offerings, my favorite being Alan Hovhaness' "Mysterious Mountain" Symphony No.2, has created one of the most important American archives of classical musical interpretation, ranking finally, I believe, in importance even above that of the recorded musical legacy of Leonard Bernstein. Hopefully still more of the older commercial recordings and the taped live performances of Reiner with various orchestras over the decades will be recovered, engineered, and released on CD (or whatever format the future holds for us) - Kenneth Morgan has gone the full measure to document those issued to date.

Atrocious biography.......2007-10-13

Philip Hart has written the most boring biography imaginable of one of the greatest conductors of the twentieth century. He has gone out of his way to ensure that Reiner never comes alive as a person by omitting his private life completely.

The stories that surround Reiner are legendary and too famous to ignore, but Hart ignores them. Reiner's relationships with other musicians, and their feelings about him as a person and a human being will not be found in this so-called biography nor will their assessment of Reiner's place among the conductors of his time. Hart seems to be interested only in his own scholarly thoughts. - Sorry, but I'd rather hear what Heifetz, say, thought of him for example. There are even times when one suspects that if Hart himself did not witness an event, it did not take place. Hart ignores countless events already recounted by others elsewhere and he contributes nothing original from his own research.

Reiner's relationship with family and friends (besides wife Carlotta) are also not in this book. In fact, if biographer Hart wished to disinterest the public in his subject as a human being, he couldn't have done a better job.

One of the greatest musicians of our times deserves better - much better. If Hart were in Reiner's class at Curtis, he'd be sure to get a failing grade. "You have to look behind the notes to get at the music." Hart hasn't.

As an opera and orchestral conductor, Fritz Reiner had few equals and no betters during his lifetime. From his apprenticeship at the Dresden Opera through his decades at Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, the Met and finally Chicago, Reiner displayed a consummate musicianship and technical prowess that were truly awesome to behold. His death in 1963 terminated one of the outstanding conducting careers of the 20th century.

Reiner's greatness as a musician, however, had little in common with Reiner the man. Fritz Reiner was one of the most feared, hated and tyrannical of conductors, and his extraordinary meanspiritedness and pettiness towards his players extended into his private life. In this biography, Philip Hart, who worked with Reiner in Chicago, shows him as a man with few discernable redeeming qualities. A more in-depth psychological portrait of Reiner would have been welcome, though Hart does address what he calls a "deep seated psychological insecurity in his character." Reiner's heinous treatment of his musicians was carried over into his interactions with his wives, his children and his friends. He seems to have been a deeply self-loathing individual who took these feelings out on those around him, but also sublimated these same feelings into his art, with astonishing results.
