Of value as a reference for collectors, otherwise, skip it.......2005-09-20

It amazes me that a well-known maker as Omega has a paucity of books in print detailing the history and products of this renowned maker (at least in English). Other than a hard to get and doubtless expensive official history, this leaves the gentle reader with this book by Mr. Kreuzer. A translation from German, this book is an exception to the overall thoroughness inherent in the German horological press. The history of Omega is very general and reads almost like a sales brochure from the company itself. Little effort is given to chronicling product development, especially in the era following WW 2, the most prolific period for the company and of most interest to collectors. Much better in this respect is the book "Tale of the Seamaster" by Messrs. Nakamura and Noda (Tokyo, World Photo Press). Unfortunately, this is in Japanese. On a positive note, the section in the back of the book detailing Omega movements is quite helpful, and I have often used it to identify watches.

An Omega collector's must have book.......2002-08-11

If you are interested in more than how Omega watches look and need to know what's inside them, this book is a great resource. As a collector it's frustrating to see watches listed for sale with movement calibers listed, but not have a source of information that provides details on the movements. For Omega watches only, this book seems to be definitive in this area. I also enjoyed the descriptions of the major Omega lines and the other information on the company, although it's far from comprehensive. I would only recommend this book if you want or need the technical data on the Omega movements.

For Really Serious Omega Collectors Only.......2000-06-14

With a far from comprehensive collection of color photographs of vintage Omega's, a smattering of vintage ad reproductions, and a barely comprehensible company history, this book's only saving grace is the illustrated history of Omega movements.

If you need more movement info than can be found in Cooksey-Shugart, buy this book. Otherwise your money is better spent on something more generic, like (Heinz Hampel's) Automatic Wristwatches from Switzerland.

A musthave for every Omega collector/fanatic.......1999-12-15

This book tells the long history of Omega and describes all watchlines (Constellation, Deville, Seamaster, Speedmaster etc) very well. There is not much depth, but the book do give you a lot of information about the used movements, great photos and information on all watchlines by Omega. For indepth stories about how watches work, buy Chronograph Wristwatches : To Stop Time; Reinhard Meis, Gerd R. Lang or Wristwatch Chronometers : Mechanical Precision Watches and Their Testing; Fritz Von Osterhausen.

Just try choosing which project to do FIRST - they're all so pretty!!

If I'm counting correctly, there are 10 birdhouse designs, 7 bird feeders, and 5 filler blocks. All blocks are shown with FULL color photographs, and the birdhouse/feeder blocks are shown as completed projects, with borders/sashing/binding, so you get great finishing ideas, and great color suggestions.

The patterns each include a color photograph, a chart with the fabric key, sewing order, and suggestions for block embellishments. The pattern itself is full size, but does not include the seam allowances, nor are the multi-piece patterns already separated for you. The author has used dashed lines to delineate the different pieces in the multi-piece patterns (in comparison to other books just showing BOLD lines, which are hard to differentiate from the other pattern lines - at least - for ME). The individual sections of each pattern are clearly labelled with the section number and the fabric key. If you have NOT done paper piecing before, there is a large information section at the front with LOTS of instructions and drawings - even people experienced with paper piecing will find these instructions helpful!

In addition to the 20+ block designs, you will find 6 "Individual Block Wall Hangings" - with full color pictures, clear and detailed instructions with drawings - even a Christmas design!!

My hat is off to Jaynette Huff - what a fabulous book :). (But please, consider putting block sizes and seam allowances on your patterns, lol).

For the first time, a beautifully crafted book has painted a landscape of the tumultuous rise and fall of the premier blues-rock band Free. Written by David Clayton and Todd K. Smith, the narrative guides the reader through the foundation and early influences that inspired four young musicians to combine forces and plunge headlong into the late sixties revolving music scene.

Entitled Heavy Load, this 300-page epic catalogues the long months of a struggling band playing smoke filled pubs eventually winning an overwhelming fan adoration. It marks the heady days of having a hit single and album, which eventually lead to the inevitable first split in 1971.

The short-lived splinter bands, KKTR, Peace and Toby, are explored and the reasons for Frees reformation in 1972 explained. This volume runs right to the very end of their career in 1973 and into the early exploits of Bad Company, Sharks and Back Street Crawler leading inevitably to the tragic death of Paul Kossoff in 1976, the true end of Free.

Their legacy lives on through musicians as diverse as Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Black Crowes, Ocean Colour Scene, Paul Weller and Gov't Mule, all who have sighted them as a major influence. Their mentor, Alexis Korner, called them "The last major band to come out of the sixties", and famed producer, Al Kooper hails them as "The greatest band that ever lived".

David Clayton has done a great job in assembling the stories of the individual players in the early days, how they came together, early struggles, eventual success etc. The reminicences of those who knew them and extracts from music magazines of the time make for interesting reading.

It is a sobering and sometimes depressing read about a band who should have been much larger, but instead were corrupted by eventual success after years of struggle and poverty.

Young up and coming bands would do well to read about, and try to avoid, the mistakes this band made regarding management, drugs, egos, song selection, and group parasites which all got in the way of the music.

this great book at second edition try the reader in a dimension as end '60 never forget and reach light on the hard times of the group.very fine photos but only black and white ,i think perhaps not could be a difficult thing to buyer for this splendid book.
i hope in a third edition with more accurate pages,photos colours and in a book only dedicated to my great guitar player and always inspiration source PAUL KOSSOFF.

Way back in the early eighties, intrigued by the components that made "All Right Now" such a great song, I went on a quest to find any and every recording of the late, great, lamented band, Free. I thought I was the only person on the planet who still listened to them. Thank God I was not. If you dig their music then you will want the book, and you'll love it. If you don't know about the music so well, then this book will definitely wet your appetite for it. They created their own oevre and instantly recognizable sound. The minimalism is addictive. Listen carefully. You will be moved.

My favorite band is Free, and Paul Kossoff my absolute favorite guitarist. They were an extreamly emotionally driven band. This book has been carefully written and A LOT of work has been put into to it! I'm proud that this book was written about Free. I'd like this oportunity to thank everyone who was involved in putting it together!!;) thank you!, I'm so happy so many people still remember Free and this is a truly AMAZING book!! The best story there is! So much of it remembering Paul Kossoff also, god I think about him every day. We miss him and his playing, we should have never lost him.

Written by Lena Jedwab Rozenberg and translated into English by Solon Beinfeld, Girl With Two Landscapes: The Wartime Diary Of Lena Jedwab, 1941-1945 is the journaled account of a sixteen-year-old girl who in June 1941 bade farewell to her family for what was to have been a summer-long vacation camp. Lena Jedwab left her home in Bialystok, Poland and arrived in Russia just as Germany invaded the Soviet Union. Lena was stranded in a Russian children's home while her family was murdered by the Nazis at the Treblinka concentration camp for the crime of having been born Jewish. In her diary, Lena wrote in Yiddish as she agonized over the unknown fate of her family and the uncertainties of her future. Expressed are her conflicted emotions over what the war had done to her youth and the gratitude felt for being alive, nourished and in school will so many others were displaced, starving, and dying. Not since The Diary of Anne Frank, has there been such a personalized account by an adolescent girl caught up in the turmoil and terror of World War II.
