Confused about Estate/Gift Tax? This book is your friend........2007-08-04

I would never suggest to a law student that he or she altogether abandon his textbook in favor of a commercially-available supplement; that's why they call them "supplements" instead of "substitutes." However, to any student who finds him- or herself pressed for time with the final exam looming just days away, I might suggest that you can learn as much from this book in a couple of days as you are likely to learn from your $200 textbook in the course of a semester spent studying the estate and gift tax.

This book does a great job of staying on point, explaining challenging concepts in "regular person" language, discussing relevant cases only as necessary (without belaboring them), and providing realistic examples without digressing too far from the core subject matter. I didn't get the highest grade in the class as some other reviewers claim, but I went from completely confused to fairly confident in the subject matter in the space of about three days.

Great resource for Estate and Gift Taxation.......2007-04-19

This black letter was a great supplement for my Estate and Gift Taxation class. It is very well organized. It also provides many examples on every topic which is great for exam preparation. I strictly used this black letter for exam prep and received the highest grade, so needless to say this book was the key to my success. I recommend this book to any student or anyone wishing to know the ins and outs of estate and gift taxation.

Incredibly Helpful!.......2007-03-20

I recently took estate and gift taxation and this book helped me more than any other supplement. It has great explanations and is easy to understand. I would definitely recommend this supplement to anyone taking a similar class.

good if you're absolutely clueless.......2007-07-17

because this book has pictures, you can see the "how-to"s of taking care of a baby, such as how to diaper, bathe, feed, nurse, change clothes, etc...

however, i was disappointed with the lack of updates. i got the book because i borrowed a friend who had an earlier addition, and you'd think that after 10+ years, the spelling mistakes would be corrected, and that makes me wonder how often the book is "updated."

Great book, a must have for any new parents........2007-06-16

We first checked this book out from our local library. We fell in love with it and just had to buy a copy for ourselves. It's a great book that contains a lot us useful real-life illustrations. We're first time parents and had so many questions about basic child-care. It helped answer some of the most simple questions to keep the baby clean, safe, and healthy. Now if only there was a manual on adulthood?!

Best Book for First Time Parents.......2007-04-26

This book is wonderful, the pictures are great and it covers so many differnt topics. From diaper changing, burping, colic, to first aid for your baby (both newborn and older).
I would recommend it to any first time parents.

Must have book for first-time parents.......2006-08-17

This is an indispensible book to me and my husband, giving guidance throughout pregnancy, to handling those first timid days at home, to caring for boo-boos of our energetic toddler. It covers a wide range of topics, with helpful pictures, and simple instructions. You MUST get your hands on this book if you are a first-time parent!

A Great Book for First-Time Parents.......2003-04-05

This is one of many pregnancy and baby books I have bought, and it's definitely one of my favorites. My husband and I are going to start trying to have a baby (our first) in about 5 months, so I'm reading all I possibly can right now. I've never been around infants, and I know absolutely nothing about how to take care of them. (I know- it's a scary thought me wanting to have one!!!) But this book has given me a lot of confidence, mainly because it's so detailed.
My favorite part of the book is the section on baby care- detailed steps of how to change a diaper, how to bathe the baby, how to dress the baby, etc. with very helpful (and beautiful) pictures. The section on pregnancy actually isn't very helpful- not very many details about the developing baby or changes in the mother; but it does give a basic overview and again, the pictures are beautiful. However, it does contain an excellent section on nutrition- spelling out (and showing) exactly what foods have what necessary nutrients for the pregnant woman, which I found very helpful. There's also a section on what to expect at each prenatal doctor's visit, which is very interesting.
All in all, this is a wonderful book with lots of good information and adorable pictures. If this isn't going to be your first baby, I don't think this book will be very helpful to you because you obviously know first-hand how to care for a baby already! However, it might be a good book for older siblings to look at (maybe age 10 and over)- so they can know what changes to expect and how they can help with the new baby. (There are pictures of the mother's naked body as it changes each month and of how to use a breast pump, so use discretion.) If you are expecting your first (or planning to be expecting soon, like me!!!) this book will be very helpful in teaching you the basics of caring for your baby.
P.S. My husband hasn't read any of my pregnancy/baby books, but he too liked the pictures in this one.

Superficial view of a major figure.......2006-02-06

Here is an "homage" to--and not really a biography nor a critical appraisal of--a major figure in Twentieth-Century music. The book is far too short to do justice to its subject, but that resulted from the fact that the author had his troubles. After initially welcoming him, on Yehudi Menuhin's urging, Boulanger later became uncooperative, leaving the unfortunate author to consult mostly already-published sources instead of her own then-extensive archives. He did not really have access to her closest associates either, after his initial contact with Boulanger herself. Given those severe restrictions, the author has, in fact, perhaps done better than might otherwise have been expected with his subject. I particularly recommend his excerpts from Boulanger's published music criticism.

Chillingly fascinating survivor's account.......2006-09-15

Drach, an Austrian-Jewish lawyer and (then) closet-writer (he achieved success very late in life, long after world war 2), is forced to flee to France after the German's occupy Austria. He ended up in occupied France and survived by determination, pretending to be Catholic and luck. In his "report", written just after the war, he relates the story of his survival and really bares his soul. This is by no means a pleasant story about a likeable character; in order to survive, the "hero" has to cheat, be egotistical, pretend to be something he isn't, and more. Drachs tale is very detached, he refuses to justify himself and his actions, and it is this style that makes the book so chilling. A very accurate portrayal of the price he payed for survival that pulls you in from the first page. Hightly recomended!
