Great Book to Introduce Yellowtone and Beyond.......2005-08-31
Planning a trip out west to visit the National Parks, Bach's book was one of my first purchases. I'm glad I did. It not only prepared me for Yellowstone, but it also prepared me for my visits to Glacier and Yosemite National Parks. The gear lists and the general guidelines for hiking in the backcountry were invaluable in preparing a beginner backcountry hiker to the path ahead.

This is the best trails book for any of the mountain states national parks. I have not found a book for Glacier or Rocky Mountain National parks as good as this book. The Kent and Donna Dannen guide to RMNP comes close. This book may look as if it is for backpackers, but it has lots of info for day hikes, too.

Wonderful detail on trails and scenic hikes.......1999-03-29
Bach does a wonderful job of describing each hike in brief detail. The book guides you in every direction, from locating the trailhead to the start and finish of each hike. As he describes each significant turn of the trail, he also points out natural features and wildlife to watch for. A great addition to your Yellowstone library.

Great compact reference for an antiques dealer.......2007-03-23
This book was recommended to me by a dealer specializing in depression glass at a glass show, and I was not disappointed. Clear color photographs with company names, dates, color range, and prices listed in a small size book that is easy to tote around. My favorite part is the section on reproductions in the back of the book, not found in some of the other glass books I own! This is the second copy I have purchased (it comes out every two years) just to keep abreast of the reproductions, since it is sold at such a great price!

Excellent portable reference book!.......2003-05-23
This book has almost 200 different patterns of depression glass and price lists for them. The pictures are excellent and the size makes it perfect for throwing in a bag or backpack while browsing at flea markets or yard sales. The author, Gene Florence does refer to another of his books which is larger and more in depth if you need more info, but this is my first book on depression glass and I find it has what I need at this point. Of special note is his section on reproductions and how to spot them - very helpful. I highly recommend this book.

The essential handbook for depression glass shopping trips!.......1997-08-12
If you are interested in collecting depression glass or glass from the 40s, 50s and 60s, this is the guide you must own. Gene Florence is the most respected author in the field and has the book sales to prove it. The illustrations are great and the text is very basic -- it only gives you pricing information.
If you are beginner or are considering collecting depression/40s,50s,60s glass, you would do well to check out Florence's large hardbound books covering those topics. This pocket reference does not give you the background information you would need.

This book is the perfect size to carry with you whenever you are snooping around antique or junk stores. It shows pictures of the glassware along with the prices on the same page - very helpful! An excellent addition to any library.
Your Yard Sale Companion.......2000-06-22
This little book is small enough to tote and complete enough to be useful when you are out looking for finds! Color photographs are of high quality. It does contain some price reference material and basics on pattern manufacturer, color and years produced. It does not contain anything else regarding the history of each pattern.
There is a section on pattern reproductions in the back which contains useful alerts. The collector will want other of Gene Florence's more exhaustive references but this is the one you will use most frequently.

This book sure has helped me! The patterns are listed alphabetically and each page is a new pattern with a color photo on top showing several of the pieces. The page tells you what colors each pattern came in, which once helped me identify a reproduction. There is also a listing of the pieces made and what their current values are. There is a section in the back (22 pages) that discusses how to identify reproduction pieces of certain patterns. The only thing that would help me more in this book is if they had included some kind of cross-reference so that you could quickly find your pattern based on its characteristics. As it is now, you either have to know its name or just thumb through the whole book. Well worth the money even to a beginner like me.

A MUST HAVE FOR DEPRESSION GLASS COLLECTORS.......2006-02-23
I recently started collecting depression glass. At the time, I realized how much I didn't know! This book has been my constant companion. The material is clearly presented. The photography is fantastic. The price guide along with the description of each piece of EVERY collection is invaluable. I have become a better educated consumer and glass collector since I keep this within reach. Highly recommend!!

This is a wonderful guide to depression glass.Each page is devoted to one pattern and lists the different colors,pieces in the collection and the estimated values.It is a small,pocket book size but has 190 pages!So there is A LOT of information packed in this smaller package!!!A wealth of info and beautiful color photographs.Also,there is a section at the back about reproductions on certain patterns.VERY in depth!A must for collectors!

exellent catalogue of vienna exhibit.......1999-11-04
The exhibit in Vienna was small but sensational (not in the "Sensation" sense). The curators really did a great job finding these works representative of 19th century painting. There are works by Church, Hassam, Sargent and more. The exhibit though small was quite overwhelming. It helps to have a catalogue that has scholarly readable articles that accompany the paintings.

Book Description
Hill stations owed their origin, early development, and widespread distribution to colonialism. Sometimes called `change-of-air stations' or `sanatoria', they were specialized highland outposts of colonial settlement that initially served as health and recreation centres for civil servants, planters, miners, and other expatriate Europeans, or as strategic bases and cantonments. Generally small and isolated, always defiantly out of place, they were insular little worlds that symbolized European power and exclusiveness. This book describes the origins, development, functional composition, and landscape characteristics of Malaya's four principal hill stations and attempts, through a liberal sprinkling of quotations, to reveal how visitors to the hill stations passed the time and what they thought or felt about the experience.

When I first got this book it was for my English class. We had to read the book every other day and then do a project on it. At first, I just grabed the book because I like hip hop and I knew who Run DMC was. The first day I was thinking, "Man I have to read for 15 mins!" So, i started reading and I could'nt put this book down. This book talks about his childhood to his death. There's so many intresting things in this book and it's not hard to read. If you want my advice, then pick up this book and never let it down.

I bought this as a holiday book, for the plane, but i couldn't put it down the whole time i was there. Really good, detailed account of the best dj ever's life. However, it could do with the pictures being spread about and more common because it's quite hard going.
Why Jam Master Jay Matters.......2003-07-11
In the mid-eighties, before rap splintered into countless subfactions - gangsta, political, bohemian and so on - Run-DMC were hip-hop to the better part of mainstream America. Run, DMC and Jay's family didn't contribute interviews to this book, yet despite being consigned to the outside looking in, Thigpen pieces together a taut story, locating Jay at the center of all things Run-DMC and, in turn, all things hip-hop. Interviews with Jay's childhood friends and music executives, plus a host of quotes culled from other sources, show Jay to be not only a generous person but also the one who held his group together as personal demons and difficult attitudes threatened to tear it asunder. Whose house? Jay's house.

You will never read another book quite like this ever again!.......2001-04-15
My mother had given me An Interrupted Life: The Diaries of Etty Hillesum when I was twenty two years old. The words, thoughts, heart, and soul of this woman forever changed my life, my perspective, and what I would choose to do with my life. Perhaps what is most amazing about this book is that yes, it is written in the midst of the Holocaust by a young Dutch Jewish woman living in Amsterdam who eventually does get killed in Auschwitz, but the book is not about the war at all. The inner life, the inner strength and resources of this woman to face her life and still find absolute and startling joy in it despite what was happening all around her, is truly a marvel. I wish for everyone the chance to cross paths with this book.
