not what i expected, my state wasn't even included.......2004-01-26

Despite the wording of the title, I didn't realize that there is a very narrow criteria to be included in thsi book. I expected sort of a USA only version of Chase's Annual Events that was specifically focused on festivals. Wrong...

Here's what this book is, using their own words... "this guides hilights those communities partipating in the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street program that have developed down town festivals as part of their revitalization process. Reaching deep into their communities identity, Main street programs have created wonderful and original themes for festivals, which could not have come from anywhere else but the communities rich heritage."

So I'm thinking, why couldn't the Shad Festival in Lambertville, NJ be part of this book? It fits their definition. Whoops. No it doesn't, it's probably not part of the historic trust. Oh well.

So to say this book disapointed me is an understatement, as not only it the scope much more narrow then I expected, some states aren't even included. So if you're looking for a guide to festivals in your state, here's a list of what states are covered: CT, DE, MA, PA, VT, VA, WV, AL, AK, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN, IL, IN, IA, MI, MI, WI, KS, NE, SD, WY, AZ, NM, OK, TX, CA, ID, OR, WA. If your state isn't listed, then this book may not be for you.

That said, the book is a decent collection of events both small and large, plainly interesting and coyly charming, I jsut wish they werne't so selective. As I felt about Chases Annual Events, I felt there was so much more that could've been included, and I find it hard to believe that they couldn't find at least one qualifying event in every state.

This is the industry standard textbook, both for law school courses in partnership taxation and for MST (Masters of Taxation) courses of the same title. This text is concise and readable and does an excellent job of explaining the concepts involved in the taxation of partnerships and other flow-thru entities.

This textbook is readable and has both simple and complex problems - something I don't see often in legal texts.

Karel Teige (1900-1951), one of the most important figures of avant-garde modernism of the 1920s and 1930s, influenced virtually every area of art, design, and urban thinking in his native Czechoslovakia. His Minimum Dwelling, originally published in Czech in 1932, and appearing now for the first time in English, is one of the landmark architectural books of the twentieth century.

The Minimum Dwelling is not just a book on architecture, but also a blueprint for a new way of living. It calls for a radical rethinking of domestic space and of the role of modern architecture in the planning, design, and construction of new dwelling types for the proletariat. Teige shows how Gropius, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and others designed little more than new versions of baroque palaces, mainly for the new financial aristocracy. Teige envisioned the minimum dwelling not as a reduced version of a bourgeois apartment or rural cottage, but as a wholly new dwelling type built on the cooperation of architects, sociologists, economists, health officials, physicians, social workers, politicians, and trade unionists.

The book covers many subjects that are still of great relevance. Of particular interest are Teige's rejection of traditional notions of the kitchen as the core of family-centered plans and of marriage as the foundation of modern cohabitation. He describes alternative lifestyles and new ways of cohabitation of sexes, generations, and classes. The detailed programmatic chapters on collective housing remain far ahead of current thinking, and his comments on collective dwelling presage communal living experiments of the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the communal facilities in contemporary condominium buildings and retirement communities.
