One of the best travel guides you'll ever buy!.......2003-07-04
This book is filled with great suggestions of places to go and things to see/do. It's extremely well organized and filled our week in Tucson with adventure and fun. We hardly ever even traveled the same road twice, there were so many listings. We'd tried the "standards" and found them lacking. There were so many areas around the city of Tucson we'd never heard of, and this book helped us organize our time and travel, although some of the day trips are truly impossible to complete in a day. In fact, we spent most of our time in Tucson outside of Tucson (if that makes any sense). A truly fantastic area guided by a truly fantastic book. If this author has written more books of the same ilk, I'll gladly buy them and enjoy.
What a Great Book!!.......1999-08-31
The book is very informative and gives you lots of options to choose from. Each section opens up with a map drawing the starting location and all the stops you would make along that perticular trip. There are complete driving directions to help you along the way. It is very easy to combine parts of different trips to suite your own interests, if you desire something different than what is already listed. Another good thing about this book is that it has listings of places to stay, where to eat, and when festivals occur(listed by month.) The descriptions of places to visit include whether or not it is for the casual observer or experienced hiker/climber. I love this book. If you are going to Arizonia, don't pass this book up. It will lead you in the right direction!!
Book Description
Take an off-road jeep tour through Sedona's Red Rocks, dine in an authentic 19th-century saloon in historic Tombstone, and hike alongside 900-year-old rivers of lava at Sunset Crater National Monument. With each day trip only a short distance away from Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaf, this book offers many ideas for backyard fun.

Book Description
Justifying Taxes offers readers some of the elements of a democratic tax law, considered within its political and philosophical context in order to determine the extent of legitimate tax obligations. The objective is to revisit some of the issues in the dogmatics of tax law from the viewpoint of a critical citizen, always ready to ask questions about the justification underlying her obligations, and especially about her paramount burden,
viz., the payment of certain amounts of money. Within this purview, special attention is paid to the general principles of taxation.
The argument is complemented by a detailed reconstruction of constitutional reasoning in tax matters, close attention being paid to the jurisprudence of the Spanish
Tribunal Constitucional.
Readership: Legal scholars, political scientists and philosophers. Especially recommended to graduate and undergraduate students of Tax Law, Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Philosophy of Law and Political Theory.

Standard Catalog of U.S. Military Vehicles.......2007-05-07
I was very pleased with my purchase of the "Standard Catalog of U.S. Military Vehicles" (2nd Edition) by David Doyle. It is a neccesary and helpful addition to the First Edition by Thomas Berndt. It fills-in some gaps in the orginal, plus, it carries forward from 1965 until about the 1980s.
It is well-written, concise and very informative.
Great reference, great photos.......2004-05-24
This book is advertised to show and describe all major wheeled and tracked tactical vehicles used by US Forces from WWII through Desert Storm; and it succesfully does just that. Most of the photos are period images, with only a few of restored or museum vehicles. Values are given for the bulk of these vehicles, however in some cases there is a notation that too few of a given vehicle exist on the collector circuit to establish a value. Most of these omitted values tend to be for newer, heavy tracked vehicles such as the Bradley and the Abrams, values are shown for all the common Jeeps, trucks and motorcycles, as well as most tracked vehicles. I noticed a few typos, but the books only real shortcoming is the lack of an index. An added bonus is the inclusion of two bonus chapters, one describing the various machine gun mounts used on Jeeps and trucks and the other describing the various paint and marking schemes used by the US Army from WWII to present. It is a profound improvement over the previous edition.
OK but could be much better.......2004-03-05
Similar in scope and thoroughness to most Krause books, The Standard Catalog of US Military Vehicles represents a fairly lengthy but hasty assemblage of US-wheeled, motorcycle, and track-laying vehicles. It is an interesting and unique collection of pictures, data, and a few stories but it falls far short of becoming an indispensable resource. Many listings lack value and rarity information with no satisfactory explanation for these omissions. The book also suffers from a lack of consistent production data and is missing an index and bibliography. The most frustrating omission is that of the military jargon and nicknames that are essential in discussing and describing these vehicles. Weak editing is evidenced by an inaccurate table of contents. The detailed information on military trailers is something most readers will not find valuable or interesting.

Excellent reference for MVs of the period.......2003-04-21
This book is a very good reference for military vehicles of the period. I have several other MV books but I always turn to this one because of its layout and decent photos. The photos are very good and the descriptions concise and brief.
The only negatives I can think of are that the prices are slightly out of date from my experience and sometimes too many models are grouped together.
handy general reference.......2002-04-08
This is a general overview of US military transport vehicles from WW2 to the present. Combat vehicles are present, but not as detailed coverage as other books. The "meat" of this book is the trucks, jeeps, tractors, etc. that keep an army operating. The book covers the diverse array of military vehicles that have ranged from the mundane to the outrageous. Obviously aimed at the vehicle enthusiast or military historian versus a model builder, the book contains handy data such as standardization dates, mechanical data, etc. This book is a good compliment to other publications that specialize in pictorial content. Overall a nice addition to the military vehicle researcher's shelf.
where are the pretty pictures?.......2000-11-17
I bought this book as an art refferance material and was a bit dissapointed to find out that the photos inside were not as good as the ones on the cover , which shows great looking pictures in vivid colors , crisp and full of details . Inside despite the good quality paper the photos are all b&w and clearly were not taken by profesional photographer , some are bit blury , the details are not clear in most cases and some were taken in poor lighting conditions which means part of the vehicle is lit and part is just a black shade .
For the die hard military vehicles fans its the right book I guess , for the extensive information on each moudle and pricing . The categories range from jeeps to light and heavy trucks to tanks and more , as well as amphibious but the motorcycles section is very small .

This is a great resource guide to learning about pockets :).......2003-09-14
This a good book, I always had problems with sewing pockets to my garments. It has good pictures to show you how to place pockets on your garments. It helps you express your creativity with your garments. You can make all kinds of pockets. I use this book whenever I want to do something different with my garments. Very Good book indeed.
Good Book To Have!!.......2003-06-05
This book offers a variety of ways to design pockets. Unlike like the traditional "patch pockets", you need this book especially if you desire new ideals!!
OK, but not too creative.......2003-03-22
I was expecting some more creativity. Ms. Moyes delivers with instructions on lots of basic pocket styles, but I was hoping for some exotic couture stuff. She gives directions on how to make a difficult curved welt pocket, which I've seen in couture, and shaped facings covering a pocket. If you're looking for a gallery with a lot of neat-o ideas: it's not in this book. Otherwise, it gives straightforward advice on straightforward pockets.
My favorite reference book on pockets.......2000-09-04
I keep this book always in reach when I sew pockets. It is my favorite reference book as it provides instructions on an amazingly large number of differently styled pockets:
CHAPTER 1: PATCH POCKETS including unlined patch pockets, lined patch pockets, patch pockets in sheer fabrics, patch pockets with foldover flaps and designer patch pockets. CHAPTER 2: IN-SEAM POCKETS including side-seam pockets, slant-front pockets, waistband concealed in a slant-front pocket and designer in-seam pockets. CHAPTER 3: INSET POCKETS including basic inset pockets and variations of the basic inset pocket. CHAPTER 4: HIDDEN POCKETS including constructing a welt/flap, breast pocket, ticket pocket, coin pocket and zippered welt pocket.
This book is very well written (as all the other books I've read from Taunton press). The instructions are clear, the use of diagrams and photos are very useful and I think this book will be of great help whether one is relatively new to sewing or a more advanced sewer. The ideas on each type of pocket at the end of each chapter are a challenge and an inspiration for any sewer looking out to create beautiful garments. I highly recommend it!

Solid Christian book leaves out gays.......2004-04-20
This book has a solid Christian foundation on helping children see the world that lies beyond their doors. The author discusses ways to help children empathize with those who have less-less food, clothing, water, medical care, etc. Do a family mission trip, prepare health goodie bags to hand out the car window to homeless people at interstate exits, talk to homeless and street people, give them a lunch, visit the sick, help the poor, serve at a nursing facility, sponsor an exchange student, etc.
With all her talk about helping those who appear to be different, the words "gay" or "lesbian" never appear, even in the chapter called, "Shedding Stereotypes." Iraqis, Native Americans and so forth are named. Why not gays? It is as if gayness does not exist and as if millions of gay Americans are unworthy of our time. The only times she mentions something about gayness is when she says we should help those with HIV and AIDS. Are the only gay people we should minister to those who are sick and dying? Considering that there is an epidemic of suicide seven times the national average among gay teens and young people, one would think that the author would stand up for gay and lesbian teens by name. Put your compassion where your mouth is. She should be encouraging straight teens to learn compassion by realizing that some of their peers are vilifed for a birth trait over which they have no control. If our straight kids are not supportive and friendly to our gay kids, they are not fulfilling God's simple rule to love one another without conditions. When straight kids befriend gay kids, they get to walk around in their shoes. This is the quickest and best way to learn compassion and to shed bigotry and homophobia, fear of gay people. Do not tell me that devout Christian teens do not know any gay kids. They go to school with them every day. And fundamentalist Christianity or political affiliation are no protection from gayness in your own family, in fact, it can greatly impede the acceptance of your child's sexual identity should they ever "come out" to you. Those who throw their gay kids out of the house, or disown them, are usually fundamentalist Christians, and they have learned this extremely violent attitude toward gay people in their own churches and homes! Gay kids of these kinds of people are the ones who often commit suicide! We want to prevent that don't we? Isn't that why we are trying to teach our kids compassion in the first place, to prevent and end this sort of suffering? If we wish to discuss compassion and how to make our kids more compassionate citizens, it seems to me that treating gay people with compassion is the essence of this discussion, since they are the last great scapegoats and are still so vilified by church, and government. But the author chickens out.
The author also stuck pretty much with organizations that were church affiliated. This makes it sound like such organizations as Amnesty International or Habitat are not as effective or helpful as working on strictly religious projects within the church. Not so. Protests, gay pride parades, and marches on Washington were not mentioned either. These are great ways for kids to gain experience in what really goes on in the world, to develop compassion for and help those who have no voice. It is our job as American patriots to point out the things we think are wrong about our nation, and make changes for the better. That is what protests and marches are for.
Otherwise, this is a very helpful book with concrete ways for kids to learn compassion. It should just go farther. This book has an excellent appendix of further resources--books, popular films, organizations, etc.

Now, twenty years after Ozzy's departure, Black Sabbath has reformed with a new album and tour with one objective: to claim their rightful place in Rock and Roll history.
But how did these four men reach an unprecedented level of success and influence countless musicians to emulate them for generations to come? Read the true story of Black Sabbath....

Should have come with a coloring book!.......2005-10-05
This book was written for those who are either brain dead or in the 1st-4th grade. Decent photos, but a lot of discrepencies with the facts. No real interviews from those who matter. If you are buying this for your young son or daughter, or someone who just learned how to read, this book is perfect, but it insults the intellegence for pretty much the rest of the world. It was a total waste of money, IMO. Skip it!!
This book is BLODDY AWESOME!.......2002-06-04
Man, I've been an OZZY fan since TRIBUTE but I had no idea how much Sabbath affected metal music until I read this book! I took the author's advice and bought ALL of the Sabbath albums. Now I can't get them out of my head! BLACK SABBATH AND OZZY RULES!!
Another cool thing is that the guy who wrote the liner notes for the KISS remasters wrote this book. He also wrote the copy on OZZY's bubble-gum cards that I bought at Spencers. DO me a favor, Mr. Conte--write about JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN next, OK?
Peace!
Had a lot of good pictures........2001-06-15
There was any info really. There was a lot but the same stuff you can get on the internet. The whole thing was practically pictures but they had some really good pictures so thats why i gave it a higer rating. If you want info don't get this book but if you just want to look at some sick pictures i would get it for an ozzy memorance thing when he dies.
Sadly short.......2001-03-16
I purchased this book in the hopes that it would, in fact, be a book. NOPE. It's a bound collection of pictures with a small, gloss-the-surface "story" about the history of the originators--Black Sabbath. I'm still waiting for a "book" book. One without pictures and quotes from more than one band member (like the "Oral History" thing), much like one of the many Led Zeppelin books. ("Hammer of the Gods" was pretty good). Anyway, I guess I'll keep waiting.

Great Plot.......2005-07-13
I really liked the way the book went back and forth between chapters about Henry and ones about Christine; you are never bored. I would recommend it! Janette Oke is my favorite author and this is one of her better books.
A great novel!.......2001-11-18
I rally enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it for
anyone who enjoys Christian fiction novels.
a 13 year old reader.......2001-08-01
I HAVE BEN READING JANETTE OKE'S BOOKS SINCE I WAS 11.I LOVE ALL OF HER BOOKS,BUT MY FAVORITE SERIES WAS THE "CANADIAN WEST" SERIES. I'M SO GLAD THAT SHE WROTE ANOTHER BOOK TO GO IN THIS SET. I LOVED READING ABOUT ELIZABETH'S CHILDREN,AND I HOPE THAT SHE ADDS ANOTHER BOOK TO THE SERIES.
Realism meets fantasy.......2001-07-12
I was so excited when I saw this 5th book added to her Canadian West series! The children really go through a lot. It was suspenseful waiting for things to happen sometimes, but isn't that real life? :-) Janette Oke has produced yet another wonderful story that I couldn't put down until the end. Even then, her characters are so well written that it left me wondering if she would write one more for this series!
Good book, but.......2000-12-16
To begin with, this is a good book if you enjoy reading fiction. It was wonderful to be reunited with old characters, and I liked how this book was slightly different from many of Janette Oke's other books in time period and style. Reading this book without the intent of being critical, this was a good book, and a must read for anyone who values Janette Oke's books.
However, to be perfectly fair and honest in my review, this book does have its flaws. I felt as though I grew somewhat attached to Christine and Henry, but this book lacked some of the necessary material and substance that causes the reader to truly bond with the characters. Furthermore, as much as I would love to say I enjoyed every aspect of this book, I was disappointed with Christine for her refusal to see sooner that Boyd wouldn't change. Christine seemed to be a smart, bright girl, but why did the matter of Boyd's attitude seem to be slightly glossed over? There was just something missing to make this a great book. Finally, the book ended very abruptly, in my opinion. Perhaps a sequal is in the making, but if not, Christine's story seemed to vanish near the end, leaving me feeling that her future, or even present, was unsolved. Then with Henry and Sam, I felt totally lost in the abruptness of the ending. Sure, I know what happened with them, but what about the void that gets them to where they are?
Despite my opinions (which provoked me to lower my rating to 3 stars), I still would recommend "Beyone the Gathering Storm" just because it was fun to read.

A Wonderful Gift for Children.......2004-09-08
Rising Above the Storm Clouds is a colorful, fun, and powerful book that teaches children both the essence and value of forgiveness. The author cleverly creates a series of similies to help children learn quite easily the beauty of forgiveness. For example, he compares forgiveness to the brightness of the newly born butterfly emerging from a dark cocoon world. He compares forgiveness to the experience of getting in an airplane on a stormy day and rising above the storm clouds as the forgiver bounces on white cottonball clouds all day. He compares forgiveness to a beautiful meadow where friends can come together in thanksgiving and happiness. Children will delight in the depth of this story and how it makes them feel more whole and healthy!

The still-unsolved murder of her 3-year-old sister Julie has haunted Anna Jameson's dreams since childhood. Tantalizing bits and pieces of that hurricane-tossed night tease her memory, but she's put it behind her and tried to move on with her life--unlike her parents, who left New York after the tragedy and still don't venture very far from their Charleston home. Now Anna has an opportunity to make her mark as a photographer in New York, and despite her mother's worry and warning, she takes it. Much of the first half of this somewhat slow-moving suspense story covers Anna's efforts to make a place for herself, professionally and personally. But then another perspective intrudes: that of a group of forensic psychologists, known collectively as the Arcanum, who study "cold" cases and try to close them, often years after the fact. The "Sleeping Beauty Murder," as the killing of little Julie Jameson is known, suddenly takes on new urgency when an anonymous someone with inside knowledge of those past events gets the experts involved again.
Despite the obvious parallels to the Jon Benet Ramsey case (including the suspicion that a family member killed the little girl), it's never made clear why a 30-year-old murder should still capture so much attention. The characterizations of the Arcanum members are so thin and one-dimensional that we don't care about them, except to note that author Judith Kelman seems to have a particular dislike of one of the experts she sketches, a media-hungry, spotlight-grabbing, and thoroughly unpleasant psychologist who's almost as awful as Anna's new boss, a tyrannical newspaper publisher. Kelman's written more than a dozen solid thrillers (Fly Away Home,, After the Fall, etc.), but this one seems slight and full of extraneous characters, intentionally misleading clues and McGuffins, and unfulfilled expectations. --Jane Adams
Book Description
Anna Jamieson was only three when her five-year-old sister, Julie, was murdered while her family slept through a tempestuous hurricane, one of many in a season that had been dubbed the Summer of Storms.
For thirty years, Anna has been haunted by mental pictures of that night-crude composites that remain grainy and indistinct. But now Anna has returned to New York City, the scene of this horrendous, unsolved crime, and events are about to unfold that will make her fuzzy memories all too frighteningly clear.
As her work as a photojournalist begins to expose the dark underside of the glittering city, Anna unwittingly crosses paths with a fiendishly clever killer. While her search for the truth races toward a chilling conclusion, she must distinguish between allies and enemies, and realize that, ultimately, there is no one to trust but herself.

Summer of Storms is an absorbing and well-written mystery thriller that will keep you awake at night. Judith Kelman writes with great descriptiveness that brings the urban setting of New York to life.
The story opens with similarities to the Jon Benet Ramsey case. A six year-old girl has been murdered in her bed, while her family slept in their NYC apartment. During an historic storm, who could have entered the building undetected? Thirty years later, the victim's sister Anna has a job opportunity to return to New York. At the same time, unbeknownst to Anna, the cold case of the "Sleeping Beauty Murder" is revived. Strange events occur, then turn deadly. But why would a child murderer return after so long?
I loved this book and burned right through it. Kelman is really a gifted writer.
Super ending!.......2005-08-05

Summer of Storms.......2004-05-25
I thought that this was a really good book. The author keeps you in the dark about the killer until the very end. The suspence at the end of the chapters keeps you intrigued and makes it really hard to put the book down. Over all, I thought this was an excellent book.
Not what I thought It would be.......2003-02-08
I believe this book didn't live up to it's promises. I did finish the book but I wasn't thrilled by the story. I would not recommend this book. I felt like it was a lot of useless text folllowed by an ending that had nothing to do with the main body of the story. The only really interesting parts of the story were the beginning and the Very end. Although the end was disappointing. I am not sure I will read another one of her books again.
quite a disappointment.......2002-07-23
this book was not at all what it promised to be: "shadowy and sinister... a pate turner"? i think not. it was tedious and somewhat boring, even, and i only finished it to get it over with. the ending was inconclusive, as though there should have been more, and Kelman failed to wrap up the plot satisfactorily. it seemed... rushed, as though she threw it on there so she could say it was over, rather than having searched and planned for the perfect ending. it was an alright book but still not the thriller i've been looking for, and it was definitely not what i'd expect from a Mary Higgins Clark award winner. it was bland to say the least, but perhaps that's just from my thriller-seeking point of view.

Williwaw! Book Report was a Success!.......2005-02-14
Hello Parents,
I was recently having a brief conversation with a friend, and I realized that many of us as parents are probably experiencing, and in some cases struggling with, the same issues related to assigned book reports for school. Issues like children procastinating to read the selected book, complete a written report, or prepare for oral report, etc.
Last year, a serious reading comprehension problem was recognized for my son. He did not enjoy reading AT ALL. His book selections were lower level grade reading. Unless a book at his grade level had been made into a movie (i.e., Harry Potter, Holes), he did not enjoy reading it. I realize now that after seeing the movie, he could then more readily visualize the storyline as he read the book.
This fall, my husband accompanied our son to the San Ramon Library to select a book for a 6th grade book report. Coincidentally, a book by Tom Bodett was on display in the library. Yes, Tom "We'll leave the porch light on for you" Bodett. As it turned out, it was an excellent selection. The plot is about siblings, 12 and 13 years old, and the choices they make while left alone. The book "Williwaw!" The book report was a success.
During the holidays, I purchased "Williwaw!" because my son enjoyed it so much, I knew he would read it over and over. I also purchased another book by Mr. Bodett, "Norman Tuttle on the Last Frontier." The oral book report that he is preparing for now was written completely on his own -- two pages, let me repeat, completely on his own! Success again! Norman is a teenager growing up in Alaska.
I highly recommend you check out these books. And if you do, I hope you have the same success as my son. I know we'll be checking out other books by Tom Bodett. Thank you Mr. Bodett!

Ivan and September are two kids who live with their dad in a small town in Alaska. Since they live in a remote area they must be very careful with their choices they make. When their father goes out on a long fishing trip the children stay at home alone. On one of the days they are alone Ivan's video game batteries go out so he hooks up the radio battery to it, even though he is not supposed to since that is their only way of communicating with the outside world. When he does this the radio breaks and they go out to get a new radio. The only way Ivan and September can go anywhere is on a boat but they are not supposed to and dig up clams to earnm money to get a new radio. On one of the clam digging days there is a large storm but since they do not have a radio the do not know the weather so they get in the middle of a very large storm.
good book.......2005-01-03
i think that this book was a good book because it told alot of detail about the story and about the characters and the way they felt about what was going on. the author told you everything that you needed to know and even the things that weren't that important.

"Hey, Berger, did you hear on the news about the big blow up at Port Vixen last night it was a real whopper! Williwaw they say." Ivan, September, and their dad live in Steamer Cove. Their dad, a fisherman, is delayed at sea for another two weeks. While Dad is at sea he gives his children two rules:1. Do not play Tech Patrol 2. Do not go out into Bag Bay.
Tech Patrol is the newest video game around Bag Bay. Ivan is bored while his dad gone, and cannot resist playing Tech Patrol. When Ivan figures out the radio and video game use the same type of battery, he uses the radio's battery to play the video game. Ivan burns out both the radios they usually use including the emergency radio. He has broken one rule. Now he will have to break the other to fix the radios before his dad returns. Ivan should have never played Tech Patrol because he has now put his sisters life and his life in danger.
Tom Boddett has excellent character development, pacing, and uses realistic dialogue. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes survival stories and The Wanderer by Sharon Creech.

If you and your younger sister had the whole house to yourselves, would you remember what your parents said not to do? That was the case for Ivan and September because their dad who was a fisherman was delayed at sea. He told the children to not do two things. To not hook up any video games to the radio batteries. Or to not go near the bay. Obviously, kids don't listen to their parents when they aren't home, and Ivan decided to hook up his video games. And of course when you don't listen bad consequences can happen, and Ivan ended up breaking the shortwave radios, which was the one link to the outside world from Alaska. Ivan and his sister had to quickly repair the radios before their father came home otherwise he will be mad! That only meant one thing. They have to sneak back and forth on a little tiny boat across the Bag Bay.So Ivan and September waited a day or two until the skies were clear. But autumn is an unpredictable season and they would soon find out that heading their way is the most violent storm: a williwaw!
I liked this book because it is interesting to find out if Ivan and his sister make it in time to fix the radio before their father comes back. I also like it when they had to find out a way to survive the storm. There is so much action and adventure and homour to this book.
I didn't like this story that much because there were many boring parts of this book. For instance, the storm and the part when he hooks up the video games all go by fast.
My favorite part of this book is when Ivan and his siter find out that they are home by themsleves and it is cool to see what they do. I like this part because it was very funny. I also like the parts when Ivan and his sister are adventurous and the story is full of action!

"Thys ys amain Dainty Messe youe have got me into, Stanleigh...".......2007-08-24
Although "Wyrd Sisters" (1988) isn't Terry Pratchett's first Discworld novel about witches (that honor belongs to "Equal Rites" (1987)), it is where Granny Weatherwax , Nanny Ogg , and Magrat Garlick first come together as a coven. You could think of this book as the fantasy version of Shakespeare's "MacBeth" (with a bit of "Hamlet" thrown in), as written from the viewpoint of the witches.
You could, but Pratchett would soon disabuse you of that notion. He's much funnier than the Bard, and Yorick (as in `Alas, poor') plays a leading role in his version. With bells on.
Cast of Main Characters:
First Witch: everyone knows witches don't have leaders, but Granny Weatherwax is Discworld's most powerful witch, even though her broom requires a running start. On chilly mornings, it might even need a cliff-side take-off.
Second Witch: Nanny Ogg is the jolly witch who knows all the verses to "A Wizard's Staff Has a Knob on the End." Her tomcat, Greebo has inserted himself into the gene pool of every feline born in Lancre.
Third Witch: Magrat Garlick is the youngest witch of the coven. She is known as a bit of a wet hen, with a fondness for occult jewelry, scented candles, and other New Age paraphernalia.
Court Jester: Yorick is alive and jingling, and his name is Verence. (Death plays the role of the skull in Pratchett's version--Talk about type-casting).
Good King: The King of Lancre, a tiny mountainous principality on Discworld. He is murdered by his successor and spends most of this book as a ghost.
Wicked King: Lord Felmet dispatches the true king, and reigns in his stead. He has trouble scouring the blood off of his hands, even with sandpaper.
Wicked Queen: The former Lady Felmet could give Lady MacBeth a reign for her money. In fact, I'd bet on Lady Felmet.
Tomjon: True heir to Lancre's throne, currently an apprentice actor. At birth, he was granted three gifts by the aforesaid witches.
If you know your Bard (played here by the dwarf, Hwel), you can pretty much guess at the plot of "Wyrd Sisters." Just add time travel, a seven-foot-tall skeleton that speaks in CAPITAL LETTERS, and a wizard-turned-orangutan
NOTE: If you'd like to read the Discworld witch books in order of publication, they are: "Equal Rites" (1987), "Wyrd Sisters" (1988), "Witches Abroad" (1991), "Lords and Ladies" (1992), "Maskerade" (1995), and "Carpe Jugulum" (1998). A second, separate series starring young witch Tiffany Aching and featuring Granny Weatherwax includes: "The Wee Free Men" (2003); "A Hat Full of Sky" (2004); and "Wintersmith" (2006).
Nanny Ogg also makes a brief, but important appearance in "Thief of Time" (2001)."
