The "Footprint Jordan Handbook" would be a good guide for someone who is thinking of making an extended stay in Jordan, but there is far too much detail for the average traveler. Given that guidebooks about Jordan are few and far between, I would have preferred something more manageable for our six-day visit.

I travelled to Syria and Jordan this November, armed with my first Footprint guide book, and I'm now a convert. It is especially good in giving out well written historical background and cultural titbids that just make the trip so much more rewarding. Lonely Planet and Rough Guides are sooooo shallow by comparison.

I reviewed an advance copy of this book. Other tax books often read like IRS instruction manuals and completely disregard the tax bracket and before-tax and after-tax approach used by Professor Cataldo. His many illustrations include those for both itemizer and non-itemizer taxpayers. He does not waste time trying to sell repackaged materials that can be downloaded from the IRS web site for free. If you prepare your own tax returns, this book will teach you to think and plan strategically.If you use a professional tax preparer, this book will provide insights that allow you to discuss the suggested strategies with your preparer. As a professional accountant with international tax preparation experience, I can give this book my highest recommendation.

Here they are!
Five guidebooks,all part of a series, that look and feel more like art books.

Five guidebooks so closely related that they become a library or set suitable to give as a gift to anyone who lives in, travels in or just loves the Southwest.

Published by Rio Nuevo Publishers, an imprint of Treasure Chest Books, these slender paperbacks have a different polish than most guidebooks, both outside and in. The covers have a satin-finish feel. The pictures in each are full color and so well done you may feel less tempted to buy a piece of art in any one of these categoriesýor more tempted as the case may be. There are diagrams and maps in full color and other information like histories for the artists, the genealogy of related artists, etc. Anything that will help a reader/art lover to understand the subject better. Bibliographies, indexes, suggested readings and pronunciation guides are also included as needed.

A great overview of fetishes, charms, and amulets made by Southwest Indian tribes. I like the mix of stories from Indian's folklore and the power from the fetish would provide to user. Now my collection of fetishes have now taken more meaning and understandings from Indian point of view. Also there is notes about material used in making the fetish. Why the color plays great role in fetish. Great reading and must reading if you collect fetishes from Southwest.

This would be an excellent starter book for anyone interested in learning about fetish carvings, or collecting them. Ms. Whittle not only discusses the different types of animals carved and what they mean in the traditional Zuni sense, but also talks about the carvers and the materials they use. There are color pictures on nearly every page, each giving the kind of animal represented, the carver, materials used in the piece, and a price guide as well, which is useful if one is just starting a collection! Besides the Zuni, there are other Native peoples of the Southwestern US who make fetishes for sale, such as the Navajo and Isleta, and Ms. Whittle includes some of their works as well.

The most straightforward "how to" manual for loving your toddler.......2007-02-26

There are two books that have made a profound impact on me as a first time parent of a now 17.5 month old: The Continuum Concept by Jean Liedloff and this. Janet Matson explains in no nonsense terms exactly how to avoid what Jean Liedloff describes as being too child-centered. Back to Basics Discipline is so well written I was able to implement her ideas almost immediately - with great results right away. I now spend my days loving my toddler and looking forward to spending time with him.

Helped a new mom feel......in control!!.......2007-02-09

I picked up this book because of the two good reviews listed previously. My 19 month old had really begun to have some tantrums and I would find myself either over-reacting, not reacting at all or just feeling inadequate at my ability to control my own child. After reading this book, I immediately felt empowered and in control. I even felt results from my son on the first day. My lack of knowledge in how to discipline had enabled his tantrums and the minute I gained control, his sense of security returned. This book reminded me of my parents discipline program and that made me feel at ease. You may not agree with all of her logic but I think the author makes some profound points (usually accompanied by a personal story) on why her discipline tactics work. My only critisism of the book was that I longed for more scenarios but the author wanted to relay the need for a parent(s) to take the individuality of the child into account. I long for an independent, honest, respectful, and successful child, teenager and adult and with this book, I feel I am on my way.

Couldn't Put it Down!.......2003-03-23

This book kept me so interested that I kept on reading throughout the night! I have been reading several survivors' books lately and find this one by Faye Adam to be one of my favorites. I had read previously that the people of Holland hated the Nazis and their beliefs. Holland is one of the countries with the highest number of Gentiles hiding Jews during the war. The author's book seems to illustrate that. It would also lend itself greatly to Middle School study. The only reason I rated it 4 stars as opposed to 5 is the skimming over of large chunks of time (months, years). However, you never lose the sense of what is happening to the author and her family.

Good People Make a Difference.......2001-07-01

This book reads like a fast-paced novel. It is not only a look at one child's life during the German occupation of Holland, it is an inspiration to anyone who faces overwhelming odds. The author has written this work in such a way that it touches the hearts of readers from the age of 11 to 80. Middle school teachers would find this an excellent outside reading resource in both the Language Arts and History curriculums. The author is a living tribute to the good people who put their lives on the line to save hers.
