Customer Reviews:
Book is good, free software stinks.......2007-10-17
I bought this book to get the free "simulations" software that came with it. First, I could only get the software to load on 1 of my 3 computers. When I finally got it loaded, it wasn't very good. The navigation and layout is horrible. After about 15 minutes, I still couldn't get to the simulations, which is the main reason I bought the book.
The book itself has a bunch of questions and simulations, so it was helpful in that way. But then again, most CPA study books have both of those things.
Proceed with caution.
bisk cpa reg book.......2007-07-09

Great Book.......2006-11-09
I used this book along with Wiley and I got 96. This book has great examples and gives a good feel of what comes in the exam. Highly recommended
Very Good Review for the $$.......2004-07-27
In my opinion, the examples in this book are some of the best for the REG section. I highly recommend this book!
Customer Reviews:
Incoherent.......2007-05-26
The books are very big and elaborate. But the subtitles are so incoherent, I just lost track of what title I am studying and why I am studying a particular topic. I thought it was AUD because it is so full of theory and tried reading FAR but it was the same too. I am planning to try Becker and wiley for my other subjects. The only thing I liked so far is the tests they have at the end of each chapter. They also didn't send me the copy of the free CD they promised.
Great Purchase.......2006-08-19
I would definitely reccommend this product to any college or CPA level audit student. It has assist me a great deal over the period which I have used it. It's content is precise and deals directly with the subject at hand.

Bleeding Blue and Gray: Civil War Surgery and the Evolution of American Medicine
ASIN: 0809320444 |
Book Description
John Hill Brinton (1832–1907) met, observed, and commented on practically the entire hierarchy of the Union army; serving as medical director for Ulysses S. Grant, he came into contact with Philip H. Sheridan, John C. Frémont, Henry W. Halleck, William A. Hammond, D. C. Buell, John A. Rawlins, James Birdseye McPherson, C. F. Smith, John A. McClernand, William S. Rosecrans, and his first cousin George Brinton McClellan. John Y. Simon points out in his foreword that Brinton was one of the first to write about a relatively obscure Grant early in the war:
"Brinton found a quiet and unassuming man smoking a pipe—he could not yet afford cigars— and soon recognized a commander with mysterious strength of intellect and character."
Positioned perfectly to observe the luminaries of the military, Brinton also occupied a unique perspective from which to comment on the wretched state of health and medicine in the Union army and on the questionable quality of medical training he found among surgeons. With both A.B. and A.M. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and postgraduate training in Paris and Vienna at a time when most medical schools required only a grammar school education, Brinton was exceptional among Civil War doctors. He found, as John S. Haller, Jr., notes in his preface, "the quality of candidates for surgeon’s appointments was meager at best." As president of the Medical Examining Board, Brinton had to lower his standards at the insistence of Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Haller points out that one "self-educated candidate for an appointment as brigade surgeon explained to the board that he could do ‘almost anything, from scalping an Indian, up and down.’" Brinton assigned this singular candidate to duty in Kansas "where Brinton hoped he would do the least amount of damage." Throughout the war, the dearth of qualified surgeons created problems.
Brinton’s memoirs reveal a remarkable Civil War surgeon, a witness to conditions in Cairo, the Battle of Belmont, and the Siege of Fort Donelson who encountered almost every Union military leader of note.
Brinton wrote his memoirs for the edification of his family, not for public consumption. Yet he was, as Haller notes, a "keen observer of character." And with the exception of Brinton’s acceptance of late nineteenth-century gossip favorable to his cousin General McClellan, Simon finds the memoirs "remarkable for accuracy and frankness." His portrait of Grant is vivid, and his comments on the state of medicine during the war help explain, in Haller’s terms, why the "Civil War was such a medical and human tragedy."

History Lovers Dream.......2001-04-03
I think this book is a must read for all Civil War enthusiasts. This book is very descriptive and worth the money and time of getting it. I think that all persons that are literare should read this book.
Book Description
"Wake me at four o'clock. We're going to see some action." When the guns opened on Fort Sumter across the harbor in April of 1861, two young men, one white and one black, were watching together from the cupola of the big house on the Lawton plantation, which stretched for a full mile along the Ashley River near Charleston, South Carolina. The white man, Wallace Lawton, would shortly be plunged into a protracted, increasingly desperate struggle to retain his inherited domain during war, devastation, and defeat, and to restore it to a semblance of its pre-war prosperity. The black man, Peter Brown, as slave and freedman, would continue a complex and sometimes stormy relationship with Wallace and with the land. How Grand A Flame s the story of three generations of a proud, strong-willed aristocratic family, from the early nineteenth century until the plantation passed from their hands in the 1940s. Winborn Lawton II consolidated the James Island lands during the time when cotton was king. His son Wallace took control just as war came. He moved his operations temporarily to land near the Savannah River, where he won the hand of sixteen-year-old cousin Cecilia Lawton. He brought her back to James Island, where they began the long struggle to restore the land to prosperity. Drawing upon vivid diaries kept by Cecilia Lawton, records and old documents, court-martial proceedings, and personal memories, author Clyde Bresee has traced the story of a southern family in a memorable historical epoch.
Customer Reviews:
History is visualized - July 25, 2003.......2003-07-26
I am a current resident of a new subdivision that has just been built on Lawton Plantation. After reading this book, I now can visualize the history of the area. As I walk down the new sidewalks and cut through areas under construction, I try to imagine what it was like 150 years ago. I can almost see Uncle Peter as he is walking to his one room cabin. The other night I heard an owl hooting that reminded me of the past when this was a plantation with fields of cotton. Driving over the new bridge to Charleston, I can imagine the Lawton's boat transporting milk and people from the plantation to downtown Charleston. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in reading about plantation life and how it was affected by the Civil War.
A walk through Southern history.......1999-06-30
A historical story in a very personal fashion. The book recounts the Lawtons family history from before the Civil War until WWII. From the acceptance of slaves as part of plantation life, to the complete dissolution of their economy and beyond - a wonderful story depicting the dynamism and challenges of life.

Customer Reviews:
A Favorite!!.......2006-01-13
Used this with all 3 kids, LOVED it!! So many wonderful ideas, and also sections to fill out what your baby/toddler is doing or enjoying at that time of life. I love flipping back through it and it just brings back some wonderful memories. : )
A reviewer before mentioned the "danger" of the balloons and stickers. Wellll, honestly folks -- whatever happened to COMMON SENSE?? I mean, my babies LOVED looking at bright beautiful ballons! On the other hand, I didn't pop them and leave pieces of balloon around for them to choke on....um, just common sense. Stickers on the hand -- all my babies loved this. The solution to it being a "choking hazard"? How about, YOU are right there, playing with your baby, making sure they don't eat one? Easy enough. Maybe it was a first time parent that wrote that review? ; )
The one valid complaint I agree with is that there is a suggestion about peanut butter, which is a no no before the age of one.
Still, most parents who love new ideas will probably find this book really valuable. Just use common sense with balloons and stickers, that's all. : )
Didn't work for me.......2002-01-11
I don't feel that I'm that creative of a person, so I thought this book would be helpful. I didn't find it full of suggestions for games; a better title might be "what to do with your life each month." The book had sections recommending that I buy a new outfit, tweeze my brows or other suggestions for mothers (inspirational, but not what I bought the book for). It also recommends chocolate pudding, peanut butter and other allergy/choking hazards for games with 6-9 month olds. IMHO the book wasn't helpful: it wasn't aimed at games, it was an oddly written "what to expect the first year."
A million ideas.......2001-08-21
I love this book. It is separated into each month of your child's first 24 months and has creative ideas for play (and the best part is that you don't have to buy things; the ideas use items you usually already have in the home); short recipes (e.g. make your own baby wipes); developmental information; mom time ideas; poems or short songs. I am not a creative mom, so this book is wonderful. It gives me easy ideas each month. For example, the book recommends saving holiday card fronts that you can put together as a picture book for your baby to explore. What easy, inexpexensive ideas! I highly recommend this. The only slightly negative comment I have is that there is no index, so sometimes it's hard to remember where I saw some of the great ideas and I have to look page by page. But it's worth it!
Fun with young toddlers.......2001-06-03
When the same-ol', same-ol' gets boring to even your repetition-loving young toddler, this book will get the fun rolling again. My 13-month old adores the sticker game (I've used the stickers game to teach her the parts of her face -- and mine), and we've used other games from the book to the delight of the whole family. I'd definitely recommend this if you're in need of more ideas to entertain and engage your child.
Can be dangerous.......2001-02-16
Overall the activities are good, but some pose a hazard to your children-for example, the book mentions that helium balloons are a great way to entertain your 4 month old baby. Balloons are one of the number one killers amoung children. Another suggestion was to put stickers on the child's hands, my baby would be able to remove them and swallow those. Use this book cautiously and beware if your childcare provider uses it.
