This book is aimed to businessmen interrested in investing in Denmark, we can find a few good tips about creating a subsidiary down there. But this book is a bite too theoretical and there's too many stereotypes for the ones who really know Denmark and it's managing way. A good first overview, but not that deep.

You may use the book as a learning tool if you are highly unorganized. As a companion workbook to the main book, it provides skeleton forms for the exercises and select problems from the main book. It is something that the average person could do without.

The Owl in Monument Canyon.......2004-03-25

This book is a wonderful collection of true stories from the four corner area near Durango, Colorado. The author is the son of a highly experienced and respected Indian trader who personally knew many of the Indian families in the area. He also knew many famous people such as John Ford who became interested in the Monument Canyon area and filmed many western movies there. I can highly recommend this book as not only historically accurate but extremely entertaining. The son of the author is still in the Indian trading business. I have met him and he is carrying on a wonderful tradition.

In 1948, at the age of fifteen, Manu Dibango left Africa for France, bearing three kilos of coffee for his adopted family and little else. This book chronicles Manu Dibango's remarkable rise from his birth in Douala, Cameroon, to his worldwide success—with Soul Makossa in 1972—as the first African musician ever to record a top 40s hit.

Composer, producer, performer, film score writer and humanitarian for the poor, Manu Dibango defines the "African sound" of modern world music. He has worked with and influenced such artists as Art Blakey, Don Cherry, Herbie Hancock, Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon, and Johnny Clegg. In Africa, he has helped younger musicians, performed benefit concerts, and transcribed for the first time the scores and lyrics of African musicians.

The product of a "mixed marriage" (of different tribes and religions) who owes allegiances to both Africa and Europe, Dibango has always been aware of the ambiguities of his identity. This awareness has informed all of the important events of his life, from his marriage to a white Frenchwoman in 1957, to his creation of an "Afro-music" which joyfully blends blues, jazz, reggae, traditional European and African serenades, highlife, Caribbean and Arabic music. This music addresses the meaning of "Africanness" and what it means to be a Black artist and citizen of the world.

This lively and thoughtful memoir is based on an extensive set of interviews in 1989 with French journalist Danielle Rouard. Richly illustrated with photographs, this book will be a must for readers of jazz biographies, students of African music and ethnomusicology, and all those who are lovers of Manu Dibango's unique artistry and accomplishments.

Read this book & know The Chazon Ish!.......1999-05-17

The Chazon Ish was a literal man (Ish) of miracles. His blessings often brought cures to illnesses. Prayers at his grave have often been effective. Rabbi Shimon Fickelman begins the book with the 13 year old Avraham Yeshayah Karelitz's commitment to study Torah for its own sake. That is for the sake of the Name (G-d). He made this decision at his Bar Mitzvah. Many of the benefits that ones derives from this are listed by Rabbi Meir at the beginning of the sixth chapter of Ethics of the Fathers. Rabbi Finkelman shows that he did acquire these and as Rabbi Meir said "and More." He had the 48 traits listed in The Ethics of the Fathers by which one acquires Torah. He suffered thru The First World War, as many Jews did. He loved his writing and regarded his books "Chazon Ish" as if they were his children. He and his wife moved to pre-state Israel in 1933. He believed that because he lived in the Land of Israel that his writings took on a special quality. He played an important role in getting Rabbi Isaac Herzog the position of the Chief Rabbi Of Israel after the death of Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook in 1935. He was very active in encouraging religious settlements to observe that Sabbatical year. He viewed the state of Israel as the last stage of exile for the Jews, rather than the beginning of the redemption. He helped thousands of troubled people. He fought against the drafting of women into the Israeli army. As a result of this, orthodox women are not drafted into the Israeli army-to this day(although non-orthodox women are.) When The Chazon Ish was challenged to cite the Paragraph in Shulchan Aruch which prohibits" the drafting of women, he answered:

"It is found in the fifth section of Shulchan Aruch, one which is not written and is the province of only true Talmidei Chachamim."

Rabbi Finkelman reports when the Brisker Rav was asked the same question with regard to the Torah he said, "In the Ten Commandments."

Book Description

Fitzhugh Lee, nicknamed "Fitz," descended from the distinguished lineage of the Virginia Lee's: He was the grandson of Henry "Light-Horse Harry" and nephew of General Robert E. After graduating from West Point, Fitz served in the U.S. Army until the Civil War broke out, when he joined the Confederate cavalry forces. At twenty-seven, he was promoted to general and commanded with distinction at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. After he was severely wounded in 1864 (after having three horses shot out from under him), he returned to service and was promoted chief of the Confederate cavalry corps. He was with his uncle, Robert E. Lee, at the surrender ceremonies in April 1865. Fitz Lee's postwar career was varied and colorful-governor of Virginia, commander of U.S. Volunteers in the Spanish-American War, postwar occupation commander in Cuba, retired hero, and author of numerous works of military history and biography.

Acclaimed Civil War author Edward Longacre has combed family records, West Point cadet files, and the National Archives to produce this classic of military biography.

He dined on shad at Five Forks.......2005-07-04

Longacre provides the basic facts of the life of Fitzhugh Lee, who clearly benefitted from his name and relationship to his uncle Robert. His West Point career was nearly as unimpressive as those of George Pickett and George Custer. His Civil War performance, while sometimes solid, culminated in disaster. He left his post to join Pickett and Tom Rosser for a shad bake at Five Forks. While they were dining, and possibly drinking, Sheridan overran Confederate positions and doomed the Army of Northern Virginia. Worth reading to provide some useful information about this senior cavalry leader. But, one comes away less then awed by his actual record.

Fitz Lee.......2004-12-28

Although I'm a fan of Mr. Longacre's previous works (The Cavalry at Gettysburg & Cavalry at Appomattox to name a few) I found this book lacking in objectivity. He starts the work praising Fitz Lee's service prior to the war but then does a "180" in throwing in what appears to be his own commentary and what he thinks Ftz Lee was thinking regarding his less than close relationships with John Mosby and, especially, Gen. Wade Hampton. All without footnotes or specific background information. He even states that M/Gen. "Jeb" Stuart was enraged and took him to task for an incident early in the war where Stuart was almost captured when waiting for Lee's regiment to meet him. I've read many books regarding that particular part of the war and this is the first I've heard of Stuart being "enraged" about that particular matter. No footnotes or background was presented by Longacre to support his belief. These type of comments are plentiful in the book, almost as if Mr. Longacre was there, which he wasn't. His previous works regarding cavalry operations are very well supported by documentation from the war. This one isn't and he throws around his assumptions and opinions as if they were facts. I'm afraid Mr. Longacre should stick to documenting civil war cavalry history where he can back up his writings with written accounts and facts. In "Fitz Lee" he doesn't hit the mark at all. It'll be a while before I read another of his "biographies".

Life Experience.......2000-11-03

Only through personal experience can we truly experience what happened in Germany at that time. We read only the negative and not how it truly was, unless it's written by someone who experienced it. Few are either capable or took the time to objectively record their life and the political influences that crept into society and effected the average German as a result of the devastating Versailles Treaty. Mrs. Cohn's objective view of the times present to anyone studying history a very authentic window into the past. Primarily we only read or see the movies of the upper echelon German Nazi party member. I highly recommend this for history students as to a valid view of this time period. Having personally known Mrs. Cohn for thirty years, I know that every statement is valid and true. It's really too bad she did not write a second book on how she and her family were treated upon arriving in the United States of America.
