Nice to have, but...........2007-06-18

Getting ready for our massive trip to Devon & Cornwall last fall, my wife & I bought just about every travel book on the subjects we could get our hands on. We had high hopes for this one. It details lots of little pubs and restaurants in the area, along with the "usual" sites that you'll find in every book.
Bottom line- the pubs in here were too rich for our blood- we are more into the sawdust and woodsmoke 'locals only' kind of place, not the wealthy Londoner on holiday kind of place. But, if that's your cup of tea, this book provides reasonable detail and a fair amount of information. I'd recommend, however, Lonely Planet, for anyone with a reasonable budget. And by reasonable, I mean less than $80 for supper.

This book provides an interesting look at some of the lesser known actors in American history. From the farmwives to Hancock you get an interesting view of life during this time period. Overall the best review was on Indian figures such as Sacagawea. For those looking for a good survey textbook of this time period I would recommend this one.

Easy to follow and much more up to date than other B-F books.......1999-08-01

I agree. I bought my copy in the bookstore after combing through all the others on the shelf. I'm still referring to it today with my first baby. I am ordering it now as a gift through Amazon to send to my cousin who will be breastfeeding for the first time. This book is much more informative, provides a more holistic versus clinical approach and explains more of the emotional as well as scientific benefits of breastfeeding. Recent publishing makes it much more timely for this new movement back to breastfeeding.

At last, a holistic guide to breastfeeding!.......1999-04-12

There are many, many books out there on breastfeeding management but this is the first book I've seen that balances the technical with the emotional. I have been searching for a long time for a guide to natural therapies for breastfeeding mothers and I've finally found it! The Author includes information on breath awareness, massage, aromatherapy, homeopathy, Bach Flower remedies, and much more. With practical how to imformation and an ample resource appendix this is a book well worth owning - it sits on my shelf right next to my Womanly Art Of Breastfeeding!

Sins of Omission.......2004-05-14

Skelton has left the skeletons buried deep inside Cosima's closet.

Once again we have less than full disclosure in the quest for the Great Wagnerian Myth.

A comparison of sources reveals that the reason for the breech with Richter was due to his marriage to a Jewess. [This omitted in the abridgement].

One of the more fascinating aspects of the Cosima Wagner diaries are many of the dreams that she records Richard passed on to her.

The not-so-tidy subject of self-flaggelation with candles is tidily omitted in Skelton.

Caveat Emptor.

While Wagner was writing his opera Siegfried, Cosima von Bulow left her husband to join Wagner. From that day until he died, Cosima (soon to be Cosima Wagner) kept a detailed, daily journal of life with "R" (as Cosima calls him).

This book is an abridgment of those complete diaries, and a mere 1/4 the length of the original.

Martin Cooper, who translated the full length original, did the editing for this abridgment, and he did an admirable job. He captured the "important" stuff, while leaving out all the detail. If you just want to read about Wagner, but are not interested in all the fluff, this book is for you. Learn about Wagner the man without all of the usual hyperbole.

Those who are interested in the diaries but are put off by its 2000 pages now have a good alternative. It can be highly recommended to everyone except specialists. If you are a Wagner aficionado, however, you will want to get your hands on the full-length original.
