Still using it . . ........2007-01-30

I first used this guide when we began visiting Chicago several years ago. We stumbled upon it at a Borders on Michigan Ave. It has truly proved invaluable. To this day (as residents of Chicago), we use this guide to figure out where L stops and landmarks are. I will keep this map until it falls apart. Not only that, it's laminated, which makes it easy to "rough up" without worrying if it will tear.

Best Chicago guide for purse or pocket.......2001-03-17

It is very easy to use. If you visit Chicago (a city that works) on business or for pleasure as a native or a stranger this is the best guide to stick into your jacket pocket or purse. About the size of a highway map, it uses a combination of weatherproof color city and transit maps with an index of sites, entertainment, night life, accommodations, and seasonal events with a brief description, addresses, telephone numbers, and hours of each. (But, call and check the business hours, many are out of date.) If you want to zip around Chicago go to ... and order for free the Chicago Transit Authority's bus and rail map and other special CTA maps. They show the number and route of each bus, L, and subway. Combined with the friendly help of Chicago residents it's hard to get lost.

Good, but not Great. Needs more detail/info.......2002-10-15

I bought this map/book because I was looking for a detailed map of the city. It's a good map of downtown , but it doesn't get down to complete street level, and it cuts off a good part of the outlying neighborhoods that Chicago encompasses.
If you're going to make a map of Chicago, you should really include the whole thing. Let's Go, Inc. cuts off parts of wicker park, ukrainian village, and logan square, and parts of the north side. It concentrates too much on the near downtown area, and forgets about some worthwhile neighborhoods that people might want to visit or look for homes in.

I like this pocket guide because it folds easily, won't rip after staying in your back pocket during the long El ride from Downtown to O'Hare, and is small enough to hide for those times when you want to blend in like a Chicagoan.

Book is good, free software stinks.......2007-10-17

I bought this book to get the free "simulations" software that came with it. First, I could only get the software to load on 1 of my 3 computers. When I finally got it loaded, it wasn't very good. The navigation and layout is horrible. After about 15 minutes, I still couldn't get to the simulations, which is the main reason I bought the book.

The book itself has a bunch of questions and simulations, so it was helpful in that way. But then again, most CPA study books have both of those things.

Proceed with caution.

Incoherent.......2007-05-26

The books are very big and elaborate. But the subtitles are so incoherent, I just lost track of what title I am studying and why I am studying a particular topic. I thought it was AUD because it is so full of theory and tried reading FAR but it was the same too. I am planning to try Becker and wiley for my other subjects. The only thing I liked so far is the tests they have at the end of each chapter. They also didn't send me the copy of the free CD they promised.

I would definitely reccommend this product to any college or CPA level audit student. It has assist me a great deal over the period which I have used it. It's content is precise and deals directly with the subject at hand.

An excellent compilation of observations of various members of James Ewell Brown's staff officers. Insights of the war and of their commander give the reader a true "you are there" approach.
Trout's framing sequences offer a nice chronology, along with many helpful maps. I read this after having first read some general biographies of Genl Stuart. Well done, indeed.

Although we'd all like to forget the absolute failure of 1970's-era communes, such a form of living can actually offer a far higher quality of living than middle-class Americans will ever be able to achieve on their own. This isn't even that hard to demonstrate. Herself a survivor of metastatic breast cancer, Natalie Spingarn writes with a meticulous attention to the attitude and humor the experiences she and numerous others have encountered in their fight against cancer included drastically shortened hospital stays in a time of promising developments in genetic and pharmaceutical research, the understanding (and misunderstanding) of family and friends, fighting cancer stigma in the workplace, the hospital, and the insurance marketplace, and communicating with physicians and health care providers. A Great Help on the Journey.......2000-02-24

Diagnosed in Oct. '99 with MM, I was devastated, alone, and confused by doctors and information sources. Luckily a friend passed me a copy of this wonderful book and I survived my first surgery and chemo with new strength and resolution. I have recommended this book to members of the clergy and those visiting the sick as the one gift they should come bearing when visiting cancer patients. The book continues to comfort and educate me on the second and third readings. As I enter the transplant phase of my treatment, it will stay with me. The author knows just how to talk to cancer patients, their family, and friends. I consider it a "must have."

A gift to the curious cancer survivor........2000-01-30

I have been waiting for this book for quite some time as I am a fan of this author and of everything she writes. As a fellow survivor who has witnessed dramatic changes in healthcare over the past 3 decades, I especially appreciate the complexity and depth the author brings to the cancer experience. This book describes not only the changes in technology and treatment options, but also the social changes that affect the emotional, spiritual, financial and practical aspects of our lives. Cancer is so much more than either being successfully treated or dying from the disease.

This book reads like a mixture of biography -- the author's personal story is compelling -- history, philsophy, and social commentary on the state of cancer care in the U.S. It would probably not be the first book that I would pick up if I was just diagnosed with cancer as this book deals with complex issues. I would need something more practical and simple and easy at that stage of the game. But for the millions of survivors who are mentally and emotionally ready to explore cancer on a deeper level and try to make sense out of it all, this just may be one of the best books available. It describes how we got to where we are today and where we hopefully are going. It is honest in descibing both the joys and successes of cancer care along with the tragedies and challenges. It is a pragmatic book about cancer and hope.

A direct and honest account of one man's life.......1998-07-02

Harry Weinberg, now in his 70's and living in Queens, NJ, wrote a very blunt book about his life and included in it his observations on Catholics, people on welfare, gypsies, women who don't like to cook, and many other Old World observations. His personal sufferings under Nazi occupation were horrendous and he lost a lot of his family and their property, but he went to America in 1953 and started a new life in the grocery business.

It's interesting because it's written almost disingenously, from a very European Jewish point of view, that one must take advantage of all possible ways to make money. The thinking is clear; this is often edited nowadays to reduce antiSemitism. I found the book at a San Francisco public library book sale for $1.00 and have passed it around to friends for its sheer honesty.

Anyone interested in health might also enjoy it.
