Good, practical, useful book.......2005-09-29

I am a veteran of Gerry Brooks' cycling tours in NYC, and was saddened to learn that he's no longer running them on a scheduled basis. So I was really pleased to see this book, which contains the routes, driving directions and other key information relating to the Brooks Country Cycling Daytrips. The trips are fun, varied, pretty, and the routes are designed for quiet and safe cycling. They are designed for casual cyclists who want to enjoy the outdoors and have some fun. The option legs do cater to the more fitness-oriented among the crowd, too. The only quarrel I have with the book is that the drive time estimates seem either very optimistic, or Gerry drives with a lead foot. I would generally say that the drive times are 15-45 minutes longer than stated in the book. But otherwise, I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Financial Accounting: A New Perspective embodies an approach to teaching that has been developed by author Paul Solomon for over 30 years. The perspective is student-centered in that it motivates students by truly acknowledging them as business majors first-by taking them out of the preparer mode yet still emphasizing how they cannot be successful in business without accounting. Solomon begins not by talking about business and accounting in the abstract, but by introducing a realistic, concrete business case that students can count on throughout the book as a controlled environment in which to learn new concepts.

Solomon's text presents principles of financial accounting through a framework using the entrepreneurial running case, Cards and Memoribilia Unlimited, which is fully integrated throughout the text. This case engages the student while exposing them to the use of financial accounting statements and information in developing a new business and their role in business decision making. Early on in the book, corporate financial statements are introduced along side those of CMU. Solomon covers debits and credits but delays their presentation until chapter 9 - which may well prove to be preferable to skipping them altogether. Students are more prepared to cover debits and credits later in the course and professors are able to at least introduce these important concepts to their business and accounting majors.

If you are interested in medieval architecture, then this book would be a great purchase. It is packed with hundreds of pictures of timber-framed buildings, such as cottages, churches, mills, guildhalls, and town markets. In addition to exterior shots, there are pictures of the interior construction of these beautiful buildings, as well as plenty of explanatory diagrams and maps. The author does an excellent job of explaining the process of timber frame construction, and the socio-economic reasons for their fabrication and destruction. I have found this book to be very useful in constructing models of medieval buildings, as well as an informative read.

This book does a good job of covering John Lennon's life from his youth in Liverpool to his meteoric rise to fame as an artist and later as a political activist.

John Lennon was a very complex man. Brilliant and high-spirited, the "Chief Beatle," the man who founded the world's greatest band and who made the world listen by the time he was 23 has commanded the world's attention once again. Readers will come away Imagining the world through John's works.

Fascinating and pure Lennon........2000-01-04

This book can teach you a lot about John Lennon, from his childhood to his political views. Even if you don't like John Lennon as a person, you can't help but to be moved by his views. He was right in everything he said and is truly missed.

Just what the title says "in his own words".......1998-11-02

I read this book "In His Own Words" last summer and I really enjoyed it. I keep it on the nightstand by my bed and look at every now and again. The book isn't one he wrote but a complilation of things he's said and his opinions. The book is funny in some places and well...not funny in others. I recomend this book for anyone who likes John Lennon, or wants to learn a bit about him.

This is an excellent compilation of John Lennon's view points on a myriad of topics, e.g. politics, music. John and Yoko had a column in 1972 and parts of their column are included in this book.

The preface gives readers an overview of John Lennon's history, including his stellar fame with the Beatles and his founding the World's Number One Band! One error that jumped out at me was when the year given for John's infamous statement about Jesus and popularty was 1965. The statement was made in 1966! That one thing notwithstanding, this is an excellent book and one that will have readers imagining the vision John shared with the world.
