I didn't realize when I purchased this book it was written for a hairdresser. I was looking for ways to fix my hair myself. Most of these I can not do by myself. Also thought it was a little expensive. But if I were a beautician I would probally think it was the greatest thing ever.

I think that this book is way overpriced for what it is. I returned it. It was more braids than updos and barely any colored pictures.

I received the book, flipped through it and put it back in the box. Wasn't anything I haven't seen before in a much less expensive package.
Didn't have anything I wanted. Updos? Two, maybe and one a big bow. Want some advise?

Very Basic Styles - Not Enough Formal Styles.......2003-03-21

I expected more formal braid and updo styles, especially for the price.

I bought this book because I was looking for some hairstyles beyond those found in basic books on braids and updos.There are some styles in this book in addition to the standard ropes, twists and French braids. They involve twisting your hair into zig-zags, looping, weaving a ribbon into your hair, or tying your hair into a big bow on the back of your head. These styles are ugly! Just plain atrocious-looking! Trashy and/or bizarre. Salon Ovations should be able to do better than that.

If you don't already own a copy, there is no more helpful or beautifully illustrated book for updos and braids than "Hair: A Book of Braiding and Styles"" by Anne Akers Johnson. There are far more styles represented than in the Salon Ovations book, and they are better illustrated...for half the price. If you are looking for some good styles in addition to those in "Hair", you won't find them in this book.

This book is mostly about the people you will deal with as they help you design your house, it's not about doing it yourself.
If you are doing it yourself, there is a section on spaceflow bubbles. And some checklists for what to consider and include in plans. both of which could help in the process.
I found some useful comments on inspections - not the code structural ones, but the "are the joists in the way of recessed lights" type, that could be useful when I get to that point.

This book is a very helpful, easy to understand, and comprehensive guide to home design and renovation. Mr. Drapaca's excellent sense of esthetics, great negotiation skills and committment to high quality projects evidently inspired the content of this book. We had the pleasure to work with Mr. Drapaca on the renovation of our apartment and found in the book many of the things we learned thanks to his advice.

For parents desperate to protect their child from being bullied or stop him from being a bully, this book has tactics to improve the situation. I discovered the book from a review in Ladies Home Journal. The author also founded a nationwide educational program BullySafeUSA.
Your child may not tell you about all that happens to him, but if you see problems with mental health, self-esteem, thoughts about suicide, and slipping school work, then it may be bullying.

I have to laugh at the bantering about whether or not what she said is accurate or what he said is true or if he used their names or had permission because really who cares? Listen to David Helfgott's music and understand that what he offers us is a glimpse of God.

Attempt to set the record straight on movie "Shine".......2007-04-16

My father and I had viewed the movie "Shine" and enjoyed it before I read this book. I wish to commend David's sister and brother for attempting to set the record straight re: the truth about their father, David's first wife and David's mental illness. Hollywood would have had a good movie without fictionalizing the lives of this family and trying to pass off the movie as a biopic. That this movie was made and advertised as a true biography of David is an injustice to the family and to the mentally ill--exploitation to sell the second wife's book and make money at the box office. "Shine" is fictionalized and not a biopic. I will never be able to view the movie "Shine" in the way I previously did; I now believe it was an unethical and untrue exploitation to make money.

Not just David Helfgott. Thanx to Margaret and Peter Helfgott........2006-04-26

This true story of the Helfgott family touched my heart, especially Peter Helfgott. Sometimes I think of him as my father in-law. (sigh) I wish I could go back in time and see the entire Helfgott family. Why you ask? I was introduced to the Helfgotts by watching the movie Shine, and learning about the real life of this book.

Gillian Helfgott herself has said, "The film was inspired by David's life; it was never meant to be a documentary. Consequently, it has used some dramatic license and some characters have been amalgamated because of time restriction. The essence of the film was very close to David's experiences and the section of the film dealing with our life is almost documentary."

I am certain that most siblings would offer differing accounts of their childhood experiences; and each is certainly entitled to their own story. One need not discredit the other. I am interested by both sides and appreciate Margaret's account as it provides another level of information ... however, having met Gillian and David I would leave with another quote from Gillian's online chat:

"At the end of my book, David expresses his emotional reaction after he recorded the Rach 3 in Copenhagen. His father died in 1975 but he felt his presence with him very much and he frequently says: 'Daddy would be proud of me'"

Margaret VS. David.......2004-07-21

I read this book after watching "Shine" and became enthralled with the life of David Helfgott. I have to say that although Margaret feels the need to have to defend her father, she blatantly disregards her brother's feelings. The way one person perceives a behavior, may be perceived a different way by someone else. There are no right or wrong answers when dealing with emotions. It's not a matter of "he said/she said." Margaret may have perceived a father's love for his child when Peter worked with David. However, David may have perceived Peter as abusive, controlling, and dominating.

As a revered scholar, philanthropist and spiritual authority, Claude Montefiore belongs to that important group of learned laymen who have sought to revolutionize Judaism. He was a founder of British Liberal Judaism at the turn of the century, considered to be the most original Anglo-Jewish religious thinker of his day, and still remains a highly controversial figure. Montefiore infuriated his enemies and often alienated his supporters with his radical agenda in which he applied the findings of historical and literary analysis to the Jewish scriptures, attempted to radically systemize rabbinic thought, and by his desire to learn from and re-express aspects of Christian theology. The extent to which he incorporated the teachings of Jesus and Paul into his own ethical and theological musings makes him unique among Jewish reformers. In his dealings with Christians and Christian thought, he can also be regarded as a forerunner to those who would later fully partake in Jewish-Christian dialogue. "The Life and Thought of Claude Montefiore" is an intellectual history and biography, together with an attempt to place Montefiore within the context of Jewish thought during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
