Very readable. This book gives a birds eye view into the California State Parks System from someone who has spent his working career in that system. Additionally the book is biographical and the insight it offers into the author's life as a park ranger and supervisor makes the book even better.

This was an awesome book. I might be biased though, as I also lived life in the Parks during this time, Including 4 years with the author as our neighbor. I found the book very hard to put down, It was the fastest I have ever read a 300+ page book. If you have ever lived in or just a regular visitor to California State Parks this is a great read. Good job C2!

I was disapointed in the book. For [the price]..(the total cost with shipping) I was expecting much more. It is only 32 pages long. The total number of pages in books should be included in description. However, the book is accurate in it's details and the photography is good. I was just expecting much more, considering the price.

I really enjoyed this book. I am a huge Cornhusker fan, therefore, this book was very entertaining to me...If you are interested in the history of Nebraska football, then this is the book for you. It really goes into detail about the whole program.

This book is a must-have for anyone contemplating or in a second or subsequent marriage...especially if you or your partner have children from previous relationships. Jon Fitzpatrick takes some pretty dry information and makes it accessible to the average reader by writing this non-fiction work in the guise of a novel. You'll be drawn in to the lives of the characters, each working through their own financial and relationship issues as they try to do the right thing by their children, their partners, and themselves. You'll walk away with a lot of useful advice and a gameplan for making changes in your own life.

Highly Informative and Interesting.......2004-07-13

You might not think that a narrative guide to financial, estate, and retirement planning would be an exciting read. Yet, the author Jon Fitzpatrick has managed to make the complex issues surrounding these topics understandable to the average person, and he's done it in a way that is interesting and entertaining as well. He accomplished this by using sets of theoretical couples, each with specific marital and financial circumstances, to illustrate various retirement and financial planning strategies. Reading about the lives of these fictional couples was interesting in and of itself! The Most Famous Sailor of his Day.......2005-03-21

Each period of history has seemed to produce a naval officer that has characterized the period. In the Revolutionary War it was John Paul Jones. In World War II it was Nimitz. During the period around the War of 1812 (which also included combat with the Barbary pirates, it was Stephen Decatur. This is his story, well written, and able to place Decatur in the story of the United States of the time.

Decatur entered the navy in 1799 (well after the Revolutionary War) and served until he was killed in a duel in 1820. This was a duel that appears to be even more stupid than most. And the author goes to some effort to describe the failings of their seconds who probably could have prevented the duel from happening.

During his brief career, Decatur rose rapidly in the ranks and with a combination of skill and luck was able to do the right thing, in the right place, at the right time. His promotion was fast, and he was the most famous officer of his day. His is quite a story.

He's Great At Getting Your Money.......2007-08-28

According to his own website, Reed has owned no rental properties since 1992. When he did, he typically owned a duplex, or one building of a few apartments (a dozen to three dozen units), making him a very small-scale real estate "guru," to use his term. He's worked as a "property manager," which sounds impressive if one doesn't know that most property managers earn just above minimum wage with a free apartment thrown in.

He now lives in a perfectly average suburban home. Google Maps is your friend. (His "rental properties" aren't much to look at, either. One of my previous landlords owns about ten times as much at one time as Reed ever has.)

He also, in an online exchange, identified himself as a "publisher." Of course, his "publishing" credits are a few bound copies of his own wisdom. One wonders if he's so brilliant why no commercial publisher is selling his books? Why are other authors not marketed through him? The answer: He's really no big deal. If he's such a huge real estate "guru," why does he identify himself as a "publisher"? Same answer.

And how is he as a publisher? Let's see:

He states in one of his anti-Kiyosaki screeds that the only expenses a publisher has are printing and shipping, yielding 30-40% net...he doesn't seem aware of bookkeeping, hold against returns, promotions, warehousing, subcontracting of rights and production...of course, people who print books in their basements generally aren't.

I pointed out that, since the typical volume discount offered to the chain stores is 60% off retail, that even with zero returns and no advertising, a publisher cannot net more than 30% in profit, even if they didn't have to pay a writer, editor and production staff. In fact, a typical book nets about 10% each for publisher and author. Though he'll argue with me (with nine books in print or pending through real publishers, and hundreds of thousands of copies in print, available through every bookstore in the English speaking world) that I don't know the business and am a "typical hack scrabbling for peanuts." Yeah, whatever.

From our brief conversation it's clear Reed knows as much about real estate as he does about publishing. He'll also insist that you can't possibly buy his books on Amazon (Hm...yet here we are) or in stores, and must send him a check for his thin, large print tomes. It certainly sounds like he knows first hand how to scrabble for peanuts.

Oh, he also appears to have opinions on coaching baseball, football and how to write how-to books (Gee, what a surprise that one is), not to mention taxes. A true renaissance man.

He's right that Kiyosaki is a questionable expert on anything, and his allegations of fraud are probably correct. However, it appears Reed's main dog in this fight is that Kiyosaki is making more money from his third rate advice than Reed is from his. That would also mean Kiyosaki is a better writer, of course. You can read Kiyosaki for a quarter the price of Reed, which says something about Reed's self-published ego.

Personal survivor's account.......2005-03-11

There are no doubt several hundred (or more) survivor accounts of the Holocaust currently in print. Regardless of which one you pick, each of them has a unique tale to share, as well as a new perspective on the chaos and terror that cost 6 million Jews their lives.

"The Rest You Know" was originally written in a composition book, by Irene Russ, for her children. She hoped to pass along the small details of her survival and how she made it through this tragic time in Europe's history. Even as non-members of her family, all of us can find something inspiring from Irene's story.

Her family was originally confined to a ghetto in Nagyvarad, until they were shipped to Auschwitz. She lost track of most of her family there, and wound up being shipped to work in the arms factory at Allendorf.

Irene's sincere tone, and the way she's always candid about her situation -- even when she thought she was having it better than others -- is both enlightening and inspiring. While the book is short (a mere 80 pages), and illustrates only a digest version of what she must have experienced on a day-to-day basis, you can't help but step away from this book with a slightly clearer perspective on the Holocaust.

There may be several hundred survivor books on the market, but each one has its own unique story. This, as many others, is worth the read.

Force and grace in 52 handwritten pages.......2002-06-02

Comparisons fail me in this genre of writing, because each offering is so intense. Many of us have read longer, professionally edited accounts of the Holocaust or seen television documentaries on it. But I think that none surpass this one in its intensity and focus. My only regret is that this remarkable woman hasn't produced more work for us to share in; if she'd wanted to make a career as a writer, I'm sure she would have been quite successful. (It's no wonder her children were all so gifted--what a set of genes to inherit!) A quick read, one you'll remember forever.

Truly One of a Kind!.......2002-01-22

I've seen movies and read books about Nazi concentration camps but none so personal as this Mother's story of survival. Torn from her parents, siblings and friends, this amazing young woman lived through years of evil treatment which are almost inconceivable. The fact that these atrocities occurred less than 60 years ago still stuns me.
I read the book in one sitting, feeling an anger I did not know I could feel. I finished the book with a new understanding of the extent of human predjudice, the strength of the human spirit and the ability of one woman to survive and go on living!
Read "The Rest You Know" and you will understand.
