I have used many price guides and this is one which I do not recommend. It is helpful with designer names but that's about it!!! I have not found it to be very helpful with specific pieces of costume jewelry...

This seems to be an excellent overview of costume jewelry. The books content includes not only hundreds of Black & white example photos but manufacturing/designer marks and history as well estimates on pricing and advice on spotting fakes. This book is probably your best bet if you are only going to get one because of how much ground it covers.

An exceptional book on vintage costume jewelry. Expert advice on care techniques, dating jewelry and information on noted designers. Gorgeous examples of representative jewelry. I am both a collector and seller of vintage jewelry, Harrice's books are my bibles and accompany me wherever I go on jewelry haunts. I consider this book a must have for the beginner through the experienced collector to familiarize them with not only vintage cosutme jewelry but how to provide many years of enjoyment from your jewelry by taking expert care. I cannot rate Ms. Miller's book highly enough. This is my 3d book by Harrice Miller.

A lot of information but hard to appreciate pictures........2002-06-29

I found this book to have a lot of interesting information. It included more practical advice on the cleaning,repairing and care of jewelry than most books do. The problem I had with this book is that most of the pictures were black and white. On costume jewelry examples, it loses so much when it doesn't show their color! The beautiful color ranges are the main reason I collect costume jewelry. The small colored picture section was nice. I just would have liked to see all of the pictures look this way. I also didn't like when several examples were shown as a group with a price range that served for all of them. Which price went with which pin?

The book is best described as a highly detailed glass pattern book. It contains thirty-five pages of precise drawings, detailing all of the art glass windows in the Hollyhock House. Located in Los Angeles, California this house was one of the last Wright houses that contained leaded art glass.

As with Wright's designs in general, his designs of art glass were not conventional. It takes an unconventional book, such as this, with superb drawings to adequately describe these designs. The major difference in Wright art glass design, compared to conventional art glass design, is that the designs heavily depend on the came configuration rather than the glass. This is more than adequately covered in the book by both text and graphics.

Page numbers are keyed to a plan view of the house so that the reader can readily locate the different window designs in the house. An easy to read chart is included for the identification of glass and zinc came by stock number for each window.

This unique book would be a welcome addition to the library of any Frank Lloyd Wright fan.

just as Frank Lloyd Wright reflected on the environment in every situation, it was as though he were consulting a calendar, very much the Feng Shui master of homes and high-rises, and in the case of this home he uses two old concepts to great effect, making the situation one of effortless variabilty, or timeless change as we'd call it today. The only comparison I wuold make here is in the area of travel memoirs; compare Dennis Casey's aestethic views with Carleton Beals "Glass House", an auot-biographical imprint that visits Mexico, Spain, and Italy, etc.
and you get the general idea. There used to be a proverbial saying for Architecture students at Universities; accredited to 'Old Frosty' (whether correctly, we've yet to ascertain) "There is a 'WRIGHT' way... and then there is the 'Other Guys' way!" But by any yardstick-this book is great!

Casey nails down Hollyhock widows.......2000-06-21

I've been buying FLLW glass patterns from Dennis Casey for years. I own all his other books and this is his best yet! For those who follow Wright's designs and his display of truth through art, accuracy and explanation are very important. Dennis Casey was allowed to take his micrometer into the Hollyhock house. Reading this book is like walking through the house. Each step is beautifully detailed: "...with surrounding glass, is exciting in the true since of the word. It is as if you walked into a room with a full symphony orchestra playing."

Three quarters of the book is detailed drawings, which will satisfy even the most picayune artisan among us. I'll continue to stare at these pages until I understand.
