First Impressions - not too good.......2006-02-05

There are a lot of typos and errors in this book. It is like the editor didn't even do any editing. Not only did they incorrectly publish their web address -- there are multiple problems that are incorrect. So many, in fact, they have a section on their website dedicated to corrections -- but some very blatent ones I found aren't even there.

The worst one yet is in chapter three. The ledger for closing entries in the solutions (pg F104) for self-study problem #3 (page F102) is different from the ledger of closing entries in Exhibit 11 on page F97.

For the self study problem, it should debit/decrease Sales Revenue and increase/credit Retained earnings. The solution on page F104 for the self study problem shows debiting/decreasing Retained earnings and increasing/crediting Sales Revenue.

The complete opposite of a closing entry. The book is full of errors like these.

And the crazy page numbering should be another concern.

Not an impressive book. Confusing for students. If your professor is asking you get it -- beg him to get ANYTHING ELSE.

Oh and the website 'student resources' section is pathetic. Solutions on the web don't match questions in the book. Sample quizes are poorly written and difficult to understand, also.

This books is long, and you must read every single line if you want to catch the ideas. The ideas take a long time to perform, so you are better off starting with PPC before trying anything in this book. Personally, I prefer Robin Nobles book on Website traffic.

All Sizzle, No Steak!.......2004-12-12

I bought this book after reading so many positive reviews but I'm very disappointed. I found her approach amateurish and lacking in substance.

She comes across as not really knowing her stuff...like one of those people who laughingly tells you how crap at computers they are. She dedicates the book to Chen, who she quotes as saying to her "What, you want to get on the Internet - you??!". If this applies to you too then maybe this is the book for you cause it's so basic.

Her chapters cover such topics as "The Mysterious Modem", "What is the Internet Anyway?" and even "The Benefits of Going Online". Hello??! Considering the reader is reading her book on internet marketing, I don't think she needs to tell us commensense reasons as to why we should go online. And the rest IS just commensense e.g. how to handle hotheadness??!! (just a guess but possibly good customer service, which of course applies in any business), market your website offline and e-mail etiquette.

I can see where she gets most of her positive reviews though - she says on pg. 65 that when she gets fan-email, she thanks the writers for their comments and then asks them to post their comments on an online bookstore such as Amazon and as she says "almost everyone I made this request of did it". Enough said!

Good for proprietors, waste of time for C corporations........2004-06-29

This book has some great ideas for building a customer base from the Internet, but these ideas were quite different from what I was expecting. The $500 in the title is almost entirely derived from web hosting and Internet Service Provider costs.

The book's strategy relies on building your own online community through discussions in USENET newsgroups, email communication, and making your site more interactive with message-board features. This leads to handling customers individually through one-to-one communication. While these ideas can sometimes be effective in generating a few sales, they are very time consuming. I was hoping the book would present tips on a larger scale of deployment, such pay-per-click advertising on other websites. Rather, the strategies in this book would require many hours at the computer talking to online acquaintances.

I recommend this book if you are already an established proprietor and would like to expand your business to the web. In particular, it is geared towards the less tech savvy businessman. However, if you are hoping to find a marketing strategy that does not require many hours at the computer chatting with individual people, this may not be the book for you.

Marcia's Book - " -- Under $500" is typical of the author. Honest, helpful, and offering informative sources.

Before you read the others, read all of her material. You'll then have the outline and perspective to skim the "others" and pull isolated info to patch into her outline. It won't be long and you'll be on your way to doing what's best for you.

Excellent Guide to Reform Judaism's Halacha.......2005-05-25

This is the best reference available for Reform Halacha. Halacha refers traditionally to Jewish law, and it has been argued that the Reform movement is "non-Halachic" but Rabbi Washofsky counters this view, positing that there is such a thing as Reform Halacha, interpreted to be "practice." It covers the expected areas of prayer and synagogue life and holiday observance, as well as areas generally considered to be outside the concern of Reform -- such as the dietary laws. Other topics are: life cycle, conversion, medical ethics, between Jews and non-Jews, Reform Judaism in relation to the Jewish Community at large, Judaism and Society. Over all, it really is an excellent guide to Jewish practice as it affects all aspects of life, from the most significant of times to the seemingly everyday.

The Best of its Kind.......2001-02-14

Dr. Washofsky outlines contemporary Reform Jewish practice within the context of Jewish tradition. His explanations are clear and informative, the topics covered nearly exhaustive. This work far exceeds any other attempts to define a Reform Jewish practice thus far. This is a "must have" for every Reform household.

The War Between the Jews.......2001-03-06

It's always assumed that there were no observant Jews in America prior to the great Eastern European migration that began in the 1880's. Rabbi I. Harold Sharfman, the author of "Jews on the Frontier" and the founder of the "Half-Moon K" Kashrut Organization, has gathered a sampler of sermons, journals and synagogue records to show the rise of Reform and the resistance of Orthodox Judaism from 1840 to 1860. The only flaw I could find in this book is the lack of footnotes, although if citations had been included the book would be much longer than 750 pages! Nevertheless I highly recommend this to anyone who is studying the history of Judaism in America.
