The book has been and continues to be an excellent resource for shopping needs. London can be overwhelming -- after all it is the city of shopkeepers -- but following the recommendations in the book have proven successful everytime. I have sent a copy to each of my guests planning to visit London and all have been able to highlight areas of shopping to save time and get what they want. The helpful tips, shortcuts and general information about the markets is fabulous. If planning a trip to London and shopping is on your list of things to do -- don't be caught without the ulitimate shopping guide.

As a Registered Investment Advisor planning my own Financial Planning practice, this book was an excellent source of marketing data and potential marketing strategies.

Based upon survey data with significant sample sizes, the best way to land high net worth clients is through their lawyers first, and accountants second.

I enjoyed the alternative methods for encouraging lawyers.....and/or accountants to refer high net worth clients to financial planners.

All-in-all a good source of marketing strategy information for financial planning professionals.

Book was easy to read and written well.

High net worth investors might enjoy the book, in order to understand the various marketing strategies and relationships between financial planners, lawyers, and accountants.

I would suggest companion books to supplement this book including:

This book was easy to read and extremely informative. It's the first book that I've come across that doesn't tell you "how to get rich" but focuses on how to keep and grow the money that you already have. It's also the first time that I've seen a book explain why you can't trust your financial advisors if they are making their money by selling you financial products. This is Wall Street's dirty little secret! The book covered all the important topics that people with money need to know ....it's a totally comprehensive financial reference guide. It's also very practical, and I've already implemented some of the author's suggestions which I'm sure will help me to sleep better at night. I wish I'd read it years ago!

Good if you have money!.......2005-06-14

This book is definitely written for those who have amassed some type of retirement nest egg and who have been engaged in working hard most of their adult lives. If you don't feel that you fit into that category, the book is still interesting, but probably not worth purchasing.
Having said that, the book has some interesting exercises and thoughts that parallel the 'New Retirement' ideas of Dr. Richard Johnson (creator of the Retirement Success Profile that I use when coaching about-to-be or already retirees). It discusses finances from the distribution side, rather than the acquiring side. Silton also talks about ways to replace the 'work habit' and continue to grow through retirement, qualities you need to have to undertake a successful retirement. He also warns about pitfalls in everything from travel to wills. The exercises he presents can be fun to do and provide a different way of looking at retirement. The underlying theme is that you need to craft the best retirement life for you. This is an excellent idea!

full of invaluable alternative investment advice.......2003-06-17

The cover to this book makes it look pretty dry, and editors have presented information in unnecessarily textbook style...But inside you will find a plethora of information about wealth management including tax-advantaged investments -- particularly into the hedge fund world. I found Barclay Leib's chapter particularly useful. He masterfully goes from a nice overview of alternative investing to the details of hedge fund manager selection, and ends by spending some time discussing actual fund of funds where the truly smart money resides. After reading this book, I now have most of my own money in hedge funds and fund of funds, and am pretty confident that the wealth I built up over a 27-year career is going to nicely and safely chug higher!

Out with Mutual Funds! All hail beta neutral investing with the true pros! This book is certainly authored by some of them.

Not Worth Your Time Or Money. .......2007-08-13

Matt Haig reveals no new insight into branding or marketing. I would rate this book a 4/5 as entertaining toilet reading, but if this book was suppose to teach a marketer something new, then it is simply an insult to you intelligence.

What pissed me off the most was the lack of substance in the case studies and the sheer amount of promotion for his buddies books - most notably Al Ries. Why am I reading the your book when I can just get his and save myself the frustration.

I am trying to remember a single good piece of advice and can't. Unless you're a complete amateur or a total idiot this book isn't for you. I've seen fliers with better information.

Don't Waste Your Time.

I went into reading this book with the highest of expectations both because of the other reviews on it and because I am really interested in the topic.

It started out interestingly enough but quickly went downhill. The first few case studies were pretty in depth and interesting but towards the middle of the book they got really short and shallow. It is almost as if the writer became impatient with his own book. If you don't want to write in detail about 100 brands then just don't. Write in depth about a handful but make the case studies meaningful.
The subtopics were also not logical for me. For me a better format would have been: Chapter one / Lesson one: Research your market. Then give some examples of brands that failed to do so. Chapter two / lesson two: Kill the product not the brand. Then some examples. And so on. But it was not arranged like that. In fact none of the lessons seemed to tie together that well. Surely the author could have found some more logical groupings.
Overall I give the book two stars.

Worth Reading.......2006-09-21

This book in worth reading even if you are not associated with any branding activities. Most of the examples are explained with logic (though few examples are debatable) and with great insigt.

Well written book!

Invaluable case study examples of branding in the trenches.......2006-05-10

This book is worth perusing, if only for the very large number of vivid examples of branding success and failure.

Some of the underlying principles are open to critique, most notably the authors assertion that perception determines buyers decisions rather than product traits. Many would say that `perception' is, of course, determined to a large extent by the customer's relationship to the product's traits. However, Haig is on track in so many other areas, and the case examples are so valuable, that the book is worth a look anyhow.

Branding can be such a confusing, abstracted issue, that the concrete examples here can provide a much needed reality-check.

Failure doesn't always imply mistakes.......2004-11-15

This book is a great collection of brand-related failures, and many of the incidents covered in this book are both entertaining and informative. However, while all of these cases show failure, I don't think that they all show mistakes. By 'mistake', I mean that the company made a foolish decision that they could reasonably be expected to have made differently at the time.

A lot of these failures we can see in hindsight were because of certain decisions, but it many cases, based on the information provided in the book, it doesn't seem that the decision was wrong given the knowledge and information at hand at the time.

In the end, this book is definitely a fun read for the most part, but most of the time the 'lessons learned' presented at the end of each case seem to be contradicted by some other company somewhere that made the same sorts of decisions and succeeded. Because of this, the only real lesson this book can teach is that there are no absolute rules to successful branding, and while there are certain guidelines that can usually be followed, there are always exceptions to the rules, and quite often the biggest successes have been the companies that defied conventional wisdom.

On a different note, I'm not sure how reliable the information in this book is, since two of the examples provided, the Chevy Nova, and Gerber's baby food in Africa, are regularly repeated examples, however they did not fail for the reasons presented in the book (which are the same reasons usually given by people who tell these stories). These may be exceptions, but they do make me question just how much research was put into the cases presented in the book.

Great Bio of Hendrix.......2007-08-15

I've read several books about the life of Jimi Hendrix and this is by far the best. Well written and researched, it is engaging and engrossing. Even the reference materials are facsinating. A great book about a very interesting life.

The research is there, but there is no insight........2006-04-30

Beware of a 'definitive' biography written by two fellows who never knew Hendrix. The 'facts' are there, but it's the approach taken to them that is lacking. Eddie Kramer condemns this book (see his seminars now posted on You Tube), and it's clear that the laundry list of tour dates, gig anecdotes and groupie/management tales don't provide any insight into Hendrix.

Ignore this book and purchase McDermott's biography 'Hendrix: Setting the Record Straight' (which, whilst heavy on Hendrix's legal woes, is grounded in the recollections of Chandler and Kramer). If you're after more, the best analysis of Hendrix as artist, musician and rock culture symbol is Charles Shaar Murray's 'Crosstown Traffic', which finally approaches Hendrix's art with the respect and insight it deserves.

Fantastic, yet strangely empty.......2005-11-29

The research is wonderful, the prose style is just fine, the detail is remarkable - I finished the book knowing more than I ever felt I needed to know about Jimi (and being grateful for the knowledge) yet no closer to any understanding as to what made the man tick. Any serious Hendrix fan must own this book, but it is, in an odd way - emotionally incomplete.

Excellent-best source book available on Hendrix........2005-10-18

This is probably the best book that has been written about Hendrix. I think it is co-written by the editor of the excellent Jimi Hendrix fanizine "Univibes", it's an excellent source book, with list and lists of guitars, equpiment, gigs, photographs anything you would wish to know really about Hendrix's career.

The large biography section is brillant and cannot be faulted-although I personaly don't ascribe to the writers theories about Monica Dannneman. I personaly don't think Hendrix wanted to marry Monica- or anyone in particular for that matter-or that she knew Jimi as well as she let on. Cathy Etchingham, Hendrix's London girlfriend for a number of years, dismisses her as stalker in her book. Coupled with the strange and often contradictory statements she made about his death in her hotel room-it raises a lot of questions about her place in Hendrix's life which are hard to guess at.

This is an excellent book , if you like Jimi's music :buy it!
Remember that Caesar Glebbeek is the editor of 'Univibes' an excellent Jimi Hendrix-magazine .
