This book would be really helpful, if you already know bookkeeping terms. For example, it's not very helpful for a person who has never done any bookkeeping and is a volunteer treasurer for a small church.

It is written in a very professional, usable format demonstrating both an extensive knowledge of QB software and nonprofit accounting needs. It has been an invaluable tool for good nonprofit bookkeeping and accounting. Every nonprofit organization using QB needs this book!

QuickBooks for NonProfits.......2007-07-29

Quickooks is well designed for use by businesses that buy things from vendors, do some work , and then sell products to customers. The softwaare provides a good "homepage" from which the user can select which of the major transacions is to be enetered. If a nonprofit organization's income is mainly from contributions, the user must treat those donors as "customers;" if the nonprofit makes contributins to others, those recipients must be called "vendors." The QuickBooks instruction book (By Kathy Ivens) admits to this need for "translataion." This separate book for nonprofits (also by Kathy Ivens) really offers nothing more. The nonprofit "user" is tempted to buy this book, in the hope that it will tell how to get a better "home page" or how to get that "translation" done by the program.
A severe disappointment!

Not what I thought.......2007-06-02

In my opinion, this book is not very helpful for churchs. It is a general instruction guide for a commercial business application with some name changes to match non-profit terminology--just like the QuickBooks software itself. They are only modified versions of a business world software package designed to appeal to non-profits.

Don't Bother!.......2002-09-25

You won't get any more info from this book than you would from the user's guide that comes with Quickbooks. It is not even a book but a sort of flip chart with no explanations of why you would do things a certain way. Useless!

A useless book.......2002-03-07

Fourteen pages (including front and back covers) of totally useless information. I was looking for a book that would help me with non-profit fund accounting using QuickBooks -- and this is not it. When the first page (of the 12 information pages) is taken up with showing the author in the lotus position, you know you have just wasted your money. The book has some colorful, simple minded flow charts -- and that is about it.

An elementary solution to a complex issue..........2001-05-29

OK...maybe I am expecting too much. I am a consultant who has non-profit clients as well as for-profit clients. I was looking for a book I could refer to non-profits to help their accounting personnel through the for-profit to non-profit transition.

I found the book extremely elementary. It is more a flowchart of procedures than a book of methodology. For example, there is very little explanation of accounting principles behind the flowchart instructions. I was especially looking for a better explanantion of setting up fund centers by using the class options. It simply is not designed to teach... only to preach.

I wish someone had reviewed the item prior to my purchasing it, then maybe I would have made a more informed choice.

AMAZON.COM START TO STOP DISTRIBUTING CONTROVERSIAL BOOKS.......2001-05-02

This is an excellent summary of Che Guevarra's life, but this book is "NOT AVAILABLE." "Chomsky for Beginners" another book about a controversial man is also "NOT AVAILABLE. This is my experience that AMAZON.COM has been starting to stop distributing many books that are too much to the Left on the spectrum of "American Politics." Maybe it's the time for me to start supporting the independent book stores and stop buying at AMAZON.COM

ok for its size.......2000-12-23

This book is okay for its size; It inspired me to check out a copy of _Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life_ by John Anderson from my local library. There are several good "Che" bios out there, I think...I'd like to learn more about which biographies are considered the best among historical scholars; I appreciated the other reviewer who pointed out innaccuracies, etc...I also noticed the aforementioned date error of Che's debacle in Bolivia and knew it had to be the 6os not the 50s, etc. I would like to learn more about this flamboyant Argentenian (and Cuban hero)...I am a leftist but only really discovered Guevara when I started learning the Spanish language.

It really is for 'Beginners', not for serious study........1998-07-26

Although "Che for Beginners" is published in a comic book format, that shouldn't relegate its content to fiction and historical inaccuaracies. In a positive light, the book does provide a (very) basic grounding in the story of Ernesto "Che" Guevara, which may be a good starting point for the uninitiated. As line drawings go, the artwork is great for helping the reader to visualize the story. However, I think a little more research and attention to detail could have been applied to make this book more accurate and informative. To cite a couple of examples: Page 9 gives the date of Che's capture in Bolivia as October 8, 1957 (actual date 1967), and page 19 provides his birthdate as June 14, 1928. Now as his birth certificate does indeed indicate June 14 as his date of birth, he was actually born on May 14, but in order to remove any stigma attached to the fact that his mother was pregnant before she and his father were married, the birth certificate! was falsified. These are the types of historical inaccuracies that indicate a lack of research and attention to detail that greatly detract from this book's ability to inform the reader. There are other inaccuracies as well. In summary, I would recommend this book as a starting point for a young person but would definitely not recommend it for the serious student or knowledgable reader.

A brief comic book-style overview at the life of Guevara........1998-07-09

This is a great place to start if you want to know more about Guevara, Cuban politics, or Communism in Latin America. This book gives insight into Guevara's life with respect to changes in world politics during his lifetime.

Down With Bad Rock Journalists.......2004-04-01

This book is what we in the tech industry refer to as Vaporware. A great idea, a semi-good writer. But what happened, Mr. Stanage? You never delivered! A mark of a good journalist is persistance, something you clearly lack. Maybe you should go back to Journalism 101. And then take Never Write About Heroes, Because They'll Disappoint You 102.

tumultuous years.......2007-03-10

Maybe the biggest puzzle about this book is why is it listed at $150?

Levin gives an interesting look at the tumultuous end of the Cold War, during his time in Moscow. Meeting with Soviet Jews who wanted to emigrate. Dealing with the Soviet government. Which was often awkward, given the longstanding Soviet policy of discouraging emigration. But we see the gradual thawing of the intergovernment relationship. Especially as the Soviet Union itself dissolved and more open discussions on many issues occurred.

His account of the failed coup against Gobachev is instructive. Where he describes the increasing unacceptibility of anti-Semitism amongst the Russian intelligensia.
