A Wealth of Resources.......2007-07-20
Many textbooks are very expensive now, and "On Moral Business" has the virtue of giving the reader a lot for the money. Looking critically at the issues of business ethics from multiple perspectives (including some limited perspectives on Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism, as well as Chrisitanity and Judaism), "On Moral Business' provides a great deal of insight from classic critical observers such as Aristotle, Karl Marx, Adam Smith, Max Weber, Reinhold Niebuhr, Walter Rauschenbusch, in addition to good excerpts of Catholic social thought on the morality of business, as well as Protestant Church documents. Anyone wishing to acquire a comprehensive reader on economic issues from a both a religious and a secular philosophical disposition would be advised that this book is well worth the money. As with all extensive readers, some articles and excerpts are more valuable than others, but a careful reading should produce a wealth of ideas to develop.
Complete Philosophical Theological Guide to Business Issues.......2000-04-07
This is a complete and thorough book accumulating the best philosophical and theological essays and monograms written about ethics in society and the workplace. The book takes on many points of view and schools of thought. The idea is not to judge the thoughts raised but simply to present the best thoughts of human nature on complex ethical issues.

Must Buy!.......2001-06-05
Our company bought this book two weeks ago as a guide to develop our "Masterplan". This book lives up to its claim that it can work for any size organization. It gives information on defining roles in organizations, how to define and refine your purpose and masterplan and how to follow through. This book will not only help in our company's ministry on a large scale, but it's already helping me in my division within the company and in my own personal life. This book has more good information than I can mention! I'm buying a copy for myself.
Practical process-turns vision into reality.......2000-12-19
Biehl does a masterful job of articlating his process for creating a master plan. We may know where we want to go, or what we would like to accomplish, but have trouble putting together a clear plan that we can communicate with others. It's a quick read, and you'll find yourself crafting your plan as you're reading the book. Great templates for weekly team reports, annual reviews, position focus sheets, and a master planning arrow. If you lead an organization, specifically a ministry related one, you NEED this book.

Product Description
Edward MacDowell (1860-1908) was the first American composer to achieve an international reputation. His music is lyrical, intimate, uncluttered, and with a unique and quickly recognizable harmonic palette. MacDowell's music does not aim for virtuosic display and obscure intellectual pleasures but, rather, it is about what is personal and what is felt by the individual in common circumstances. The classical guitar is at its best with music of smaller proportions that is personal, evocative, and imbued with opportunities for subtle, expressive nuances in performance and so is eminently suited to MacDowell's music. This collection includes his most famous composition, To a Wild Rose, as well as ten other beautiful guitar solos in both standard notation and tablature. An outstanding recording, by Aryeh Eller, of all of the music is included.

MacDowell: Piano Music, Vol. 1
ASIN: 0486262936 |
Book Description
The noted American composer’s best, most characteristic piano works, including all 4 sonatas and 4 suites—Woodland Sketches, Sea Pieces, Fireside Tales, and New England Idyls—reprinted from original editions.
Customer Reviews:
Neglected Gems.......1999-05-09
Macdowell's Piano Sonatas are a challenge for a virtuoso - and the musical ideas may not be worth the effort to surmount the technical obstacles.
The shorter pieces, however, will delight any amateur pianist. The "Sea Pieces" are stunningly evocative and make the most of a grand piano's sonorities. The "Woodland Sketches" was arguably the most popular collection of piano music in the United States for the first two decades of the twentieth century. Avoiding an overly sentimental approach to these pieces is essential allows MacDowell's compositional genius to shine.
The other collections are equally worthwhile. Some of the pieces are whimsical, some profound and some are downright odd, such as the quirky "Of Salamanders"...
The Dover Edition, as usual, is first class.

Customer Reviews:
A Fun Read About a Serious Subject.......2006-01-26
Written with light humor, this book on a serious subject is a delight to read. Ellie writes as if she is sitting across a cafe table, drinking coffee with you. What makes the book fun to read - and interesting so you keep turning those pages - is that Ellie uses experiences from her own life and turns them into lessons for readers.
The advice Ellie gives in her book is rock solid and makes perfect sense, and she doesn't just tell you what to do, she gives the reader steps on how to do it.
This book is not a "How to Get Rich" book. It does not delve into the dark mysterious sometimes boring world of the inner workings of stocks, bonds, banks or international finances. "A Woman's Guide to Family Finances" is a book that tells, step by step, what a woman can do to get herself out of debt and into the black in the most painless, easy to understand methods possible.
Chapters begin with interesting information, usually a personal experience Ellie has had. She then tells the lesson she learned from her experience. Then she lists the steps taken to correct the problem or make the success discussed.
I would recommend this book to any woman, no matter what stage of your life you are in. Young and just beginning to "I'm too old to change" (which I don't believe is ever true).
Who knew finances could be so much FUN!.......2005-12-29
Ellie Kay does a masterful job helping families manage finances. In fact, the book should be titled, Family Guide to Finances, because she has the whole family involved! Having been raised by immigrant parents whose values helped me to become a responsible spender, saver, donator, Ellie's book still offers reasons to keep reading--from the eight money-saving/spending personalities (including, Love Ya Louie and Balanced Betty), resources for saving money online, keeping track of what we spend, to the Money Pyramid (starting with 10% FUN money). Most of all, her stories and digressions make this a real page-turner filled with valuable nuggets.
No-nonsense and Straight-shooting.......2005-05-14
This book gives practical advice to any woman interested in getting control of family finances, whether she is married, single with kids or on her own.
It also includes help for financial recovery for the deeply in debt and for the suddenly unemployed.
Divided into two sections, Ellie Kay jumps into the hard truth with "Where Did All The Dough Go?"
Ms Kay's description of the America's normal family:
1. Married with two children
2. Modest home with a 30 year mortgage
3. $40,000 annual income
4. Savings account with less than $500 in it
5. $8,000 in credit card debt
6. Two car payments
7. No household budget
8. No long-term retirement account
9. They want their children to go to college
Where they hope to be One Fine Day
1, Paid off mortgage
2. Paid off credit cards
3. Nice savings account
4. IRAs
5. Kids sent to college
6. Retirement
And where they will actually be if they continue their financial habits shows a vast divide that hits all too close to home for many of us.
Ellie Kay asks, "What are you willing to do today in order to make your family's financial dreams cone true in the future?"
She goes on to show the different personalities and emotions that drive financial decisions. Chances are you will find yourself in one or more of these personalities as I did.
But, take heart, she gives practical ways to break free from the destructive spending cycles that accompany each of these personalities.
After facing the hard truth of who we are and how we spend, we get to take action in Section 2 "Money Management For Everyone"
In this section there are action steps such as Ten Tips to Save Ten Bucks in Ten Minutes (or less) and establishing a household budget, based on The Fifty Thousand Dollar Pyramid
This section is packed with useful information about everything from choosing a mortgage to garage sales and Ebay.
The last chapter brings home the spiritual reason for being financially secure. - So that we can give generously, in very practical ways, to those in need.
I enjoyed Ms Kay's entertaining sense of humor, which got me through even the painful areas of `self-recognition' and 'plastic (credit card) surgery'.
This is a keeper for the bookshelf!.......2004-09-07
Do you dream of the day when . . .
. . . Your credit cards are paid off?
. . . You have a savings account and an IRA?
. . . You can take a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation?
Then A WOMAN'S GUIDE TO FAMILY FINANCES is the book for you. Written in an entertaining, easy-to-read style, Ellie Kay will teach the reader how she took her family from over forty-thousand dollars in credit card debt, to being completely debt-free in two and a half years.
Ms. Kay shows in easy to understand chapters how to budget, how to save on essentials, how to go on a debt diet, and how to weather financial set-backs, including losing your job and looking for a new place of employment.
I don't usually like to read how-to books, but this book reads like a good novel. I had to keep reading. I learned some really valuable tips and relearned others that I'd forgotten and am looking forward to putting my new budget into operation.
A WOMAN'S GUIDE TO FAMILY FINANCES is a book to read through once, but then come back to time and again as you are ready to make more financial changes. She advices you start small and build your way up so you don't go into shock and stop trying to save money. Whether you are a born spender or saver, A WOMAN'S GUIDE TO FAMILY FINANCES is a book for a keeper shelf to be read and studied over and over. I'd recommend having your teenagers read it too, especially if they are soon to be on their own.
=== reviewed by Laura V. Hilton for Christian Bookshelf
Strongly commended and highly recommended reading.......2004-04-06
Ably written by magazine columnist and international speaker Ellie Kay (best known for her regular guest appearances on CNBC's "Power Lunch"), A Woman's Guide To Family Finances is a no-nonsense guide to keeping the family out of debt, ready to weather financial setbacks, and with an eye always vigilant toward future financially relevant plans. Do's and Don'ts of spending; various investments; saving; and planning simplify the complex task of managing money while minimizing risk (especially in today's unpredictable and volatile era), A Woman's Guide To Family Finances is strongly commended and highly recommended reading.
Book Description
Ride with the fire department paramedics as they race to help people who are having a really bad day, and share the laughs and the tears that come with having "the world's most glamorous job." "Quick! How Do You Dial 9-1-1?" contains episodes that are both harrowing and hilarious from the true-life experiences of Firefighter Captain Randy Nickerson of the Denton, Texas, Fire Department.
Customer Reviews:
Don't waste your money.......2006-08-03
This is the worst book I have ever read. There is no detailed accounts of any of the situations this man has encountered, only very very brief stories of what happened. I'm still trying to figure out where the funny parts are in this book, there are definately no "laughlines". Don't waste you time or money.
Quick How Do You Dial 9-1-1?:.......2006-03-24
It was a fun read a little goofy at times but altogether a fun read I would recomend this to anyone who wants to read the lighter side of EMS.
True to life.......2003-07-24
Randy is as fantastic a writer I have ever had the privilige to meet. Being in the volunteer EMS field I can laugh with him as he meets all the different characters he helps. His sense of humor is a survivor skill in his profession. I hope to see more of his work, is it needed in our work as much as good equipment.
Cap, please write more!.......2003-05-11
Wickedly funny, should appeal to a wide variety of people, from those looking for true life paramedic books to those who like to read of strange real life incidents. Captain Nickerson is definitely the guy I'd want to respond to my 9-1-1 call.
So You Wanna Be a Fireman?.......2002-01-11
In the wake of the events of Sept. 11, our nation's true heroes have received the respect and praise they deserve on a daily basis. With this newfound glitz and glamour, I am sure that the career choice of many is to be a fireman, paramedic, or police officer.
Randy Nickerson's new book tells stories of what these people do and face on a typical day at the office. He uses true stories with a touch of humor to tell what he has experienced in his 23 years of service. The thing that distinguishes his book from others is that he tells the stories as he saw and remembers them. This allows readers to put themselves in his boots and see and feel what he did. He tells of experiences where he, his partners, and equipment defeated nature or death, but he also tells of experiences where all he could do was console the loved ones of the victims whose time on earth had expired. He tells of experiences where he was just as scared as those involved but had to hide his fear and try to save a life in a situation that no training or manual could prepare you for. He also tells of experiences that come back to him; some as a haunting memory as he passes the site of the accident and others as a greatful thanks for a job well done from the survivor or loved one. As the author puts it, his job has its ups and downs, but in what other job can you comment on the events of your day at the workplace with the following statement, "Oh nothing much. Just saved another life, that's all."
I did not want to put this book down until I finished, and even then I was left wanting more. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone, and I would definitely recommend it to someone considering a career as a fireman, paramedic, or police officer.

Customer Reviews:
Keep Your Money.......2002-03-09
This book is, in my opinion, worthless. Save the price and spend it on open house fliers and snacks. I am constantly amazed at the volumes of non-substansive books. They are sold to many, yet teach nothing more than general common sense items. I have found more effective methods watching used car commercials on tv. Many items are greatly misleading also. I have taught people to sell by owner for years and offer free on line seminars that put this book to total shame.
Leaves A Bit To Be Desired.......2002-02-12
The author gives some good information, but she lightly touches over topics leaving the reader with a lot of questions. The book is rather pricey with not a lot of content. I found several typos that should not have been missed before printing. For the price of this book, I think that it would be wise to look at other "For Sale By Owner" books.
Book Description
An annotated critical edition of twelve lectures by William Sterndale Bennett (1816-75), the foremost English musician of the mid-Victorian period, principal of the Royal Academy, and conductor of the Philharmonic Society. Delivered at the London Institution and Cambridge University between 1858 and 1871, they are valuable both as representative of the Victorian understanding of musical history, and for Bennett's astute comments on the state of music and musical life at the time. They include admonishments to the British government for failing to offer adequate financial support to the art; interesting and often surprising views on many contemporary composers; and discourses on his own experiences as a professional musician. The lectures are presented with annotations which identify the persons, institutions and compositions referred to in the text. An extensive introduction sets the lectures in context and reflects on their significance to English musical history and to Bennett's personal career. NICHOLAS TEMPERLEY is Professor of Music Emeritus at the University of Illinois.
