This book is aimed to businessmen interrested in investing in Denmark, we can find a few good tips about creating a subsidiary down there. But this book is a bite too theoretical and there's too many stereotypes for the ones who really know Denmark and it's managing way. A good first overview, but not that deep.

very good text but somewhat disappointing on the graphics.......2002-03-05

The book gives you roughly 100 pages of hiking trail descriptions, 50 pages of bike trails and 50 pages on snowtrails. The text is a smooth and detailed narrative, not just a list of a few facts about each trail's location, distance, major route turns, and elevation change as in many trail guides.

However- I expected more and better photos & maps based on the other evaluation of this book and the backcover proclaiming this to be a book from "a professional cartographer and award-winning photographer". There are about 20 black & white photos and a small insert of 10 color photos which are ok but not fully satisfying. The "maps" are minimal- small hand-drawn sketches of the region that only show bumps to represent "mountains" and major roads- but no trail lines, topographic details, or any real value.

THIS GUIDE IS EXCELLENT FOR THE USE OF THE PRESENTATION OF GENERAL-PURPOSE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. IT GIVES DETAIL EXPLANATIONS OF HOW INFORMATION SHOULD BE PRESENTED. THE EXAMPLES GIVEN ARE WRITTEN IN A WAY THAT YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WITHOUT HAVING TO READ INTO THE EXPLANATION. UNLIKE SOME OF THE AICPA BOOKS THAT ARE OUT THERE, WHERE IT READS LIKE IT IS IN SOME OTHER LANGUAGE BESIDES ACCOUNTING. Wilberforce with balance.......2007-05-11

This was a fabulously written and researched book. The depth of the original documents that were touched made it authoritative and the writing style was captivating. The descriptions of his personal and family life and how he related to his peers was particularly valuable to me. I also gained any insights into the reading list of Wiliam Wilberforce which is always a window into a man's soul. Highly recommended.

A Fantastic Read.......2007-05-02

I was truly unaware of who William Wilberforce was before reading "Amazing Grace" by Metaxes. Then I found "Real Christianity" by Wilberforce and now I am almost finished reading "William Wilberforce: A Hero for Humanity." The book, "William Wilberforce: A Hero for Humanity", is a can't put-it-down kind of read. It brings in notable contemporaries of Wilberforce which richly adds to the fiber of the text. Wilberforce's "Great Change" made him a mighty force for Biblical Christianity. I believe it should be a strongly suggested read for all politicians at every level of government (village, town, city, state, and federal). We need to see a moral turnaround in our beloved U.S.A. seen in the hearts of its citizens. Morality cannot be legislated. I give the book a five stars (thumbs) up.

Kevin Belmonte meticulously researched the facts and the emotion of this biography. It is pure and simply delicious reading with insights that touch the heart and move the senses. Awesome!

Making a hero out of a man.......2007-02-18

I am not so enthusiastic about this biography. While it introduces Wilberforce in a rather surface manner, I find that many of the experiences in the book are twisted to claim Wilberforce as an evangelical rather than to accurately portray the context and culture of the man.

If one is searching for a true historical account of Wilberforce that includes a superior knowledge to the culture and political history of the era, I think Pollock's biography is a much better read...without the ulterior motive of promoting a form of Christianity. The real purpose of this book is a promotion of evangelicalism rather than a historical account of a life.

Read It for the Facts, If You Can Stand the Lack of Flow.......2004-07-29

As a collector of all things related to the Clapham group, I was excited to get my hands on this new bio of Wilberforce. The facts, illustrations, sources, and anecdotes are worth the reading. However, the writing is unorganized--reminiscent of a lecture in which the professor forgets key points and goes back to insert them. That said, I applaud the resurgence of curiosity about Wilberforce, and look forward to the upcoming film production mentioned in the book.

Inspiring Page Turner.......2003-07-15

Belmonte's work, Hero for Humanity, is one of the best works I've picked up in a few years. He traces the life of English statesman William Wilberforce from his boyhood through his career in public life. Along the way, Wilberforce struggles with the subject of faith, finally becoming an evangelical Christian. It is at this point that his worldview changes, and his legislative career in Parliment takes a new turn, as he begins on the long journey of the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire. Wilberforce becomes a man whose "conscience is held captive by the word of God", and he wrestles with being a Christian in the rough and tumble world of politics. This book is a must read for history buffs, Christians, skeptics, and lovers of a life well lived.

Phenomenal Biography About A Too Little Known Hero.......2003-04-11

In an age when celebrities are made through self-promotion, selfish excess and even 'reality' television centering on the lowest forms of human behavior, Hero for Humanity is a refreshing look at a man who by his faith, life and commitments, made his country, and indeed his time, better for him having lived.

Kevin Belmonte has been fascinated by William Wilberforce for years, and is determined to have the world rediscover this man, and hopefully follow his example to change their world. Wilberforce was an Englishman of noble birth who was born into a nominal Christian home in 1795. A few years after being elected to Parliament, and with a bright political future ahead of him, the Lord worked in his life to bring him to faith. Counseled by John Newton to continue in Parliament, Wilberforce set his sights on bettering English society. His aim was to abolish the African slave trade (and later slavery itself in England)and to have a 'reformation of manners', meaning moral change in society.

Unlike many modern "Christian" statesmen and politicans, Wilberforce did not need to couch all his ideas in Christian language, nor did he feel that he had to quote Scripture on the floor of Parliament to make his case, but he was clearly and consciously informed by Scriptural principles in all that he did. He had many opponents who ridiculed his faith and attacked his reforms because of it, but he resisted the temptation to 'demonize' his opponents (again, unlike many today) and instead sought to win them over by integrity, honesty, care, and by using his incredible gifts of oration and persuasion. His struggle to eliminate the slave trade and slavery took many years and had many setbacks and defeats. But in the end, he and his group of co-workers achieved their goals.

Belmonte also portrays Wilberforce as a man people just wanted to be around. He could carry on intelligent conversations on almost any topic. He was as home with intellectuals as he was with the working class man. His great gifts were balanced by a genuine humility, knowing that all he had was a gift from God, and all he accomplished was much less than he could have. Belmonte paints a portrait of Wilberforce as a man who you would just want to spend time with. I would urge you to do just that and read this book. It will inspire you to see how you can be used by God in greater ways in whatever sphere of life He has called you to.

Incredible Memoir of the Gulag!!!.......2004-03-18

This book shocked, sickened, and inspired me. I never realized how terrible Stalin's purges were until I read Ginzburg's historically accurate and emotionally compelling memoir. Unforgettable characters, disturbing mental images, and harrowing brutality made up the Soviet Gulag and Ginzburg's book showcases them beautifully! Outstanding memoir!!

One of the most harrowing descriptions of the Stalin purges.......1999-06-30

Eugenia Ginsburg was sentenced to ten years imprisonment in 1937 on a false charge of terrorism at the height of the Stalin purges. In her first book 'Into the whirlwind' she describes her arrest, her interrogation, her mockery of a trial and two years in solitary confinement in prison. She was then transported to Magadan in the far East of Russia to a labour camp, and the first volume ends as she is beginning to cope with the undescribably harsh conditions in the camp.

'Within the whirlwind' describes the next fifteen years until her return and rehabilitation. She describes how her life was saved by gaining work as a nurse in the camp hospital where she met her second husband.

This book leaves the reader astonished how Evgenia could describe her life with such humour and at the same time with such human understanding. All the time, however, the reader is reminded of the inhumanity, lying and deception of the Stalin regime.

At one stage, the vice president of the USA, Henry Wallace, visits the camps, and the prisoners are removed and the guards temporarily take their place and manage to convince the gullible American that the camps are manned by well fed and enthusiastic pioneers.

Eugenia returns to Moscow, her life destroyed, having lost one of her sons. She ends on a note of optimism, that the truth will be told in her native land. She died however in 1977 and never saw her books published in her native land nor the destruction of the communist regime.

This book is now out of print, which is a pity. Everybody interested in Russia should try to get hold of a copy and read it and ponder on the demons that helped produce the country as it is today.

One day, Buzzy was packed and departing through Jackson Arch. The Commandant, Col Buchanan, '50B, spotted Buzzy, bags packed and on his way out of barracks.

"Mr. Northen, what do you think you are doing?"

"I'm quitting. I'm going home."

"Please step into my office."

Col Buchanan convinced Buzzy to reconsider. As Buzzy was departing Col Buchanan's office to return his civilian clothes into storage and to rejoin the Corps, Col Buchanan ordered him to place himself on report for wearing civilian clothes in barracks.

This is a good book about Lou Harrison that at least touches on almost all aspects of his life and work. I can't say it is a must have but it was enjoyable.
