Customer Reviews:
Great information, great pictures.......2003-02-10
Like the Iran guide in this series, this book features good facts for people considering going to Mongolia, and enough pictures to make you seriously consider it. As with the Iran guide, it doesn't feature all the indepth fact and figures that would make it a helpful guide inside of the country, but it makes a great fact book. There's a brief section on the language in the back, oodles of address for getting a visa, and plenty of goregeous pictures. I can't think of a downside to this book, because it fulfills its purpose perfectly. Excellent work.
Best Mongolia guide on the market.......2002-09-21
Unfortunately this wasn't published until a few days after I got back from my trip. This guide contains excellent descriptions of the cities and sites, along with the historic background you need to really appreciate Mongolia in the 21st century. Reading it after I got back helped refresh my memory - and put names to some of the photographs I took.
The only downside to this book is that the maps - a handful covering about five aimags (provinces) apiece - are so high-level as to be almost useless. The Lonely Planet guide, though out-of-date and surprisingly negative - has more and better maps.

Excellent Examination of the Other Side of the Social Revolution.......2005-12-10
Other reviewers have commented on the lack of detail in this book about Wallace's early and post-shooting life. This is valid but, as the title makes clear, not really the point. Carter's work is quite specifically examining the active part of Wallace's political life, and in this regard he does a stellar job of charting the rise of conservatism and Wallace's defining role in that rise, a subject all the more relevant as fundamentalism and "righteous anger" have made a comback in the start of the new century. For those with an interest in poli sci and/or the flipside of the cultural revolution of the 60's and 70's, this is an enlightening read.
Masterful examination of Wallace's political career.......2004-11-21
This is an excellent study on the political career of George Wallace, the former Alabama Governor famed for his stand against integration in the early 1960's and his subsequent runs for the Presidency. Carter portrays Wallace as a complex individual, who seems to have been motivated from the start more by ambition than principle. The book gives an extremely well researched and readable account of Wallace's early life, his family, friendships and formative experiences. Carter attempts to show that Wallace early on became politically ambitious for the Alabama Governor's office and that he originally adopted the stance of a moderate (for the time) southern populist, going so far as to refuse to break away from the Democratic party in 1948 and supporting Truman over Strom Thurmond and the Dixiecrat party.
In the 1958 Alabama gubernatorial election Wallace was defeated by a more blatantly racist, segregationist opponent and vowed in a famed statement of racial epithet never to be the racial moderate in any future elections. True to his word he ran a 1962 campaign on the stance of continued defiance to federal government attempts to integrate Alabama schools and extend voting rights to the state's black population. Successfully elected, he made a national name for himself by his confrontations with the federal courts (including initially trying to defy or evade the court orders of man who had once been a good friend - Federal Judge Frank Johnson) and the Kennedy Justice Department. The book doesn't shy away from the resulting violence of some of Wallace's followers and the more extreme racist comments and actions of many of those who supported him in the 1960's. I think Carter makes a good case that by his disregard for federal law enforcement agencies and civil rights protesters that Wallace in some degree bore some of the responsibility for the actions of the more extreme and violent of those opposed to integration and expanded civil rights for black citizens.
Carter also provides great detail into minds of the inner circle of those men who managed Wallace's candidacy in his state and later national campaigns for President, including talented speechwriter but also violent racist Klansman Asa Carter (no relation to the author), who would later become famous as the author of the historical novel that inspired the Clint Eastwood movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales". Biographer Carter's premise is that by Wallace's strong showings in the presidential elections of 1968 and 1972 (before he was derailed by an assassination attempt) that Wallace succeeded in moving the national political debate to the right, especially in the area of social policies and politics. Carter has gone on record in other books and speeches as trying to link the Republican policies of welfare reform, re-examination of affirmative action policies and anti-crime legislation as being directly descended from Wallace's bigoted early campaigns. While I think he stretches the point I do think that some of Wallace's populist appeal did pave the way for successful Presidential campaigns of other southerners, such as Georgia's Jimmy Carter in 1976 and Arkansas' Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996. Carter sees Republican Ronald Reagan as more of a direct descendant of Wallace, but this reviewer sees it as a fact that most successful Presidential races since 1968 whether Republican or Democrat have taken Wallace's anti-Washington bureaucrat populist rhetoric and support for a stronger defense and lower taxes as being more important than his racial stances.
Of course Wallace himself moderated his racial stances through the succeeding years, until he was running as a populist with appeal to both blacks and whites in the 1980's and appealing for forgiveness to many of those he had wronged. Carter dutifully reports this later conversion, although he seems to question some of the sincerity behind the public conversion.
The book doesn't represent itself as a conventional biography as much as an examination of Wallace's life and the effects of his political campaigns on national and regional politics, and for that reason I can forgive what I see as a failure of the book to give as much detail and scrutiny to Wallace's life after 1972 as Carter gave the previous years. The book does a powerful job of conveying the reality of Lurleen Wallace's life and trials as George's wife as well as her fights with the cancer that finally killed her. Her stint as a successful stand in candidate for Governor in 1966 and her short term in office before her death is given a good overview. However I would have liked to have seen as much detail and information on Wallace's later family and personal life, including his other marriages and relationships with his children. I also would have been interested in finding out more about the Alabama political scene of the 1980's and 1990's and Wallace's lasting effect on those politics, but I can't argue with the fact that Carter has written a masterful portrait on both the man and his era and the waves he caused by his political campaigns. A definite 5 stars for this award winning (justly so, I might add) political biography.
Great account of a man who shaped modern politics.......2004-08-13
In this book, Dan Carter provides a wonderfully insightful examination of a man who perhaps more than any other has defined the course of contemporary American politics. An ambitious man from the start, Carter shows how Wallace tapped the growing uneasiness of many voters towards the profound changes taking place in American society after World War II, using it to win the governorship of Alabama as a defender of segregation. Though Wallace ultimately failed in his subsequent quest for the presidency on a similar platform, his campaigns introduced themes and tactics that would become staples of postwar American politics. In this passionate yet objective account, Carter succeeds in helping the reader understand both the man and what his candidacies represented, as well as their lasting effects on the nation.
Well-researched and well-written.......2003-08-14
Since I read, on 7 Dec 1969, Professor Carter's masterful Scottsboro: A Tragedy of the American South I have since this book was published in 1995 wanted to read it. It tells well the story of George Wallace, four-times governor of Alabama, and his time, and is well footnoted with a good bibliography. It is disturbing that as recently as 1972 a blatantly racist message could resonate so powerfully not only in Alabama but in other states as well. A few years ago the ban on miscegenation which was in the Alabama Constitution was repealed by the people of Alabama (tho it had been inoperative by reason of a US Supreme Court ruling long before)and I found that encouraging, but one has to fear that many of the people who so raucously supported the bigoted and corrupt regime of Wallace as recently as 1972 may not have repented. Reading this book is as sobering as thinking about the fact that millions in Germany as recently as 1939 supported Nazidom.
first rate scholarship BEAUTIFULLY written.......2003-02-18
Every year I teach this book for about 125 undergraduates in a course called "Race and American Politics from the New Deal to the New Right." Though it is a course that welcomes controversy, one thing that virtually all of my students agree upon is that this is a GREAT book. Carter, the dean of Southern historians, is a masterful storyteller with a matchless eye for detail and a balanced political judgment. He shows how Wallace, far from being just another Southern demogogue, opens the way to the transformation of American politics and the rise of a new conservatism whose wellsprings are the rage and fear of white Americans in the face of the civil rights revolutions of the 1950s and 1960s. It's a brilliant, absorbing book and every year when I read it again I am struck by the rich craft of Carter's prose and the deep thoughtfulness of his assessments.
Book Description
This book tells the inspiring story of a lifelong activist whose creativity and careful thought set the standard for the animal rights movement in the twentieth century.
Customer Reviews:
The story starts with chapter 2.......2006-04-20
Singer is a terrific researcher and is genuinely interested in Spira; however, I think Singer spends too many pages on Spira's background. Chapters 2-6 are excellent, though. Great information for new animal activists.
Little Seeds of Practical Idealism.......2006-03-10
I stumbled across a glowing recommendation for this book within a blog entry posted by a fellow vegan. I was intrigued, given Peter Singer's name on the dust jacket -- his book on Animal Rights, which is written in such a memorably concise, levelheaded and rational fashion, ranks right up there as one of the penultimate reasons I decided to go vegan, myself.
That little sense of intrigue was more than well rewarded by what I found in this book. Henry Spira's story is downright inspiring (to such an extent, while reading this slim bio, the bad punster in me couldn't help toying with the subject's name: "Henry Spira's in-SPIRA-tional". If you're not groaning, you should be).
The practice of veganism can raise discomforting questions -- how does a compassionate individual with a strong sense of personal ethics grapple with a profoundly careless world in which cruelty is commonplace to the point of mundanity and concern for the disenfranchised may seem alien to the point of provoking fear, even open hostility in others? What happens when a compassion for the voiceless develops into an inured hostility toward those who are careless? How can an ethical individual work toward reducing unnecessary suffering while continuing to extend compassion even to those who create that selfsame unnecessary suffering?
Henry Spira responded to such open ended questions by focusing on action. How could he, as one individual, work to bring about the greatest cessation of animal suffering possible? His answer -- via a mastery of relentless focus, indefatiguable optimisim, careful planning and a ceaseless upwelling of drive -- made him a matchless force within the movement toward animal rights.
I noticed, as I reading this book, that Mr. Singer's writing style seemed a bit rough in some places. Initially, I chalked this up to the notion that philosophy and storytelling, though similiar, are fundamentally divergent if equally challenging forms of communication. The real reason for this narrational shakiness, however, is revealed towards the end of the book and works as a spurringly poignant denoument.
I'd recommend this book to anyone -- vegan or omnivore, activist or armchair guerrilla -- because, at heart, it is more than the story of one lesser known hero from the folds of the animal rights movement; it is a roadmap to dynamic compassion, the pinnacle win-win.
Deep insight, amazing stories, wonderful book.......2006-02-28
The story of Henry himself is amazing enough, but this wonderful book is even more than that. Weaved into the life story of Henry are the stories of so many other people.
There are those who are not as famous but nonethless critical to all the achievements, like the donors who supported Henry, like the volunteers who handled the daily work, like Henry's advisors who turned his idea into concrete actions, like the numerous individuals who gave followed his call to write letters or picket or take any other action.
Then there are also those sincere and good people who is not in the "movement". There is Senator Lombardi who gave Henry a fair hearing, and Roger Shelley from Revlon who believed there is a win-win solution, and Susan Fowler of 'Lab Animal' who interviewed Henry the anti-vivisectionist.
And then there are also those who are apparently on the side of the "movement" but cared more about themselves. There are the researchers who abuse money donated by people and industry, and there are groups who seem to care more about getting people's donation and their personal glory than helping victims.
And then there are people who seem to really believe that everything on earth are just for their personal gain. From the hideous boss of NMU to the cat-vivisectionist Aronson, from "tough" guy Frank Purdue to the more scheming Leon Hirsch.
There is such a rich spectrum of people in this book, it is worth reading even if you don't agree with anything else from Peter Singer.
There are also many hilarious stories. The visit of congressman Koch to the cat experiment lab, the "biological fluid collection units", and the story about the super comdom for the chicken-in-a-comdom ad.
This book is definitely worth reading, and not just once. Each time I turned the pages and got to the part where Henry told the author that he's got the cancer, my heart sank like a rock. Oh, no, not him, not so early, please. I really wish Henry is still with us today, the whole world might be a different place.
Amazing Book -- A must read for all activists!!.......2001-04-01
This book is truly amazing. It is a very exciting book to read, and the enthusiasm of Henry Spira can not help to rub off on your own life. Peter Singer has done an excellent job of giving the reader an easy to access look into the life of a man who inspired thousands of people to think more about all forms of suffering for all types of animals.
Thank you for such an amazing book! It is a must read for anyone involved in activism. It shares a lifetime of wisdom. Enjoy!
A primer in effective (animal)activism.......2000-12-22
Being persuaded about animal rights for some time now, I have been looking for ideas on how to get active. This book provides lots of ideas and is an inspiring portrait of an attractive and committed person. It is also very readable - I read it early into the morning until I finished it.
Spira's activism was highly intelligent, practical, strategic and committed to the long term - he is a hero of the animal rights movement.

An Excellent Review of Helpful Ethical Guidelines.......2003-01-15
This is the most practical application of ethical principles that I have encountered in almost forty-five years of work experience. Dr. Rion enables the reader to become part of each topic. One becomes involved in living each situation presented. It is really a reality check where you look at yourself, review your own actions and match them to the behaviors Dr. Rion describes. Donald C. Dickey, President, Connecticut Society of Association Executives
Hit the ground running!.......2003-01-15
"I like the way Dr. Rion tied any number of life choices into ethical decisions. It seems to teach the intent of the Ten Commandments without preaching. It elegantly weaves and extends ethical considerations into many life situations. I am thinking about ways to use it with clients"
Book Description
Promoting care, a sense of personal responsibility for the welfare of others, is one of society's primary moral challenges. A caring society is one in which care penetrates all major social institutions including the family, schools, places of work, and worship. The purpose of this book is to present pragmatic guidelines for individuals and groups who want to enhance the caring quality of the social institutions in which they participate. The authors propose principles whereby care can be infused in routine contexts and give real-life examples to illustrate how they have been successfully applied in a variety of social settings.

Book Description
For over a decade, ordinary people, doing ordinary things, have given Mike Kelly the opportunity to inform and entertain readers of the New Jersey-based newspaper The Record. To Kelly, the story is in the people--and in the lessons that their experiences can teach the rest of us about living, dying, laughing, and loving. In this collection of his columns, Kelly pays tribute to those people as he shares their story with a wider audience.
Kelly charts the rise and fall of local, state, and national politicians. He searches for Jimmy Hoffa's legendary burial place in Giants Stadium, and he recalls an afternoon spent with a three-year-old AIDS victim. All together, these individual stories of hope and sorrow, of hardship and happiness, transcend their local origins and tell a larger story of how Americans live and perceive themselves.

Fresh Jersey Stories fron an Altered State.......2007-01-12
He is a great writer. I recognized people I know. Anyone living in New Jersey will love it.
A Jersey Gem.......2001-05-12
Mike Kelly is the Jimmy Breslin of New Jersey, a writer with a deft touch who can portray the human side of issues, politics, and other areas where people become statistics or political rallying points. This is a wonderful collection of pieces displaying Kelly's empathetic touch. New Jersey receives a ton of bad press, but Kelly manages to portray the diversity, humor and underlying heart and toughness of the state in a way which blows the stereotypes out of the water. Highly recommended.
Took me Home.......2000-12-03
I left Jersey twenty-five years ago, but the characters and places in Fresh Jersey brought it all warmly to life for me. There's a world view from the ground in NJ that becomes more clear after living on the other coast, and it springs to life in these pages. My personal favorite column was about the shad fisherman in the Hudson River. This is great stuff to give someone in the other 49 states who hails from NJ. Mine's going to another Jersey ex-pat.

Doris Duke.......2004-08-16
An insight into the personal life of Doris Duke from her astrologer and friend, Nischintya Dasa. I finished the book feeling as though I had gotten to know Doris the person. I really enjoyed this book, except of course, for the sad ending. Wish you were still here Doris Duke.
Book Description
Widely-respected leadership expert and bestselling author Larry Julian identifies five built-in roadblocks to success and shows that by partnering with God, they can be overcome. Human beings are designed for success. Still, Larry Julian says there remain hidden obstacles that keep people from realizing their dreams. On their own, capable individuals take charge of what they should surrender to God, yet are strangely passive about things for which they should take responsibility. As a result, five obstacles sabotage their every effort: Pain and adversity Financial slavery Lack of confidence Distractions Fear and worry For each obstacle, Julian tells the story of someone who succeeded against the odds. Describing a partnership with God, Julian shows how knowing when to adopt either a take-charge posture or a surrender posture will ultimately pave the way to true success.

There are five catalysts to success.
1. pain: don't run away, accept it. Discover what God is doing to shape you for what purpose.
2. finances: trust God for everything. Use what God has given you.
3. courage: let go of ego and worries. Fulfill your calling.
4. Distractions: make time to hear God. Get a discerning heart , a renewed mind and obey God's commands
5. Fear and worry: be humble towards God. Don't let worry fill you. Let Godly thoughts fill you.
easily one of the best books I have ever read!.......2006-03-06
This is an absolutely fantastic book. I have read hundreds of motivational and self-help books over the years, but as a business owner, I have never read a more incisive and life-transforming book as this one.
The author's experiences are so relevant to issues we all face and the practical applications at the end of each chapter adds to the value of this book. It is easy to read and forces you to see your life in an entirely new light.
I highly recommend this to anyone who has ever encountered adversity of any kind.
A guide to turning pain and pressure into powerful life messages of success.......2005-11-02
Larry Julian, the author of GOD IS MY CEO, has again produced a resource that meets the requirements for both faith-based operating principles and savvy to-the-point business methodology. Julian, whose first book took years to get into print from conception to reality, speaks candidly about wrestling with God over personal desires and dreams as he dealt with daily disappointment and rejection. Speaking from his own painful experiences of being fired, divorced, and disabled with a lingering back problem, the author understands what it is to be defeated. Yet he doesn't end his story there. He expounds upon his spiritual journey of rebirth, which transposed itself into every life passage imaginable, and how he's learned to take the pain and pressure and transform them into powerful life messages of success.
As the basis for his text, Julian shares with readers the message he's received from countless attendees of his "God is My CEO" seminars regarding the five most common life obstacles that hinder the success that God intends for today's man or woman. Topping the list is pain and adversity: humanity unanimously avoids pain, thus short-circuiting God's powerful potential. Second, financial slavery: what we have is never enough; men and women are either chasing money or being chased by its elusive and seductive promises. Third, lack of confidence: individuals are paralyzed into inaction because they don't trust God to provide the tools needed to succeed. Fourth, distractions: across the board people live in a state of perpetual frenzy and are unable to hear God's call, that gentle whisper of sanity. Lastly, fear and worry: the self-inflicted mental barrier that stops progress, incites physical and emotional ailments, and drives people to a place of inner torment.
Lest readers become fainthearted at the opposition to success, Julian assures one and all that while God "doesn't promise the removal of obstacles...he does promise to be with you, partner with you, and teach you as you overcome." Cites Julian, "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33) Don't give in to the subtlety of misbelief, he writes. Rather, join forces with God and discover the destiny within the pain, discover financial freedom, discover courage, discover God's whisper, and discover peace.
Julian's background as a business coach is seen most clearly in the layout of his book. Each chapter accomplishes five objectives. An obstacle is identified that hinders the success desired by God. Testimonies of others who've walked through this particular trial are shared for in-depth study (and inspiration). A surrender and take-charge plan based on biblical principles is offered with comparative solutions. Exercises of practical application are provided for immediate action. And rounding each chapter is a set of discussion questions to enhance and emphasize the concepts covered individually or in a group setting.
The author's infectious enthusiasm allows him to tackle the darker issues of life while simultaneously offering a substantive, hopeful resource that readers will grasp and grab onto like a lifeline. This isn't a lightweight read; rather, this book is for those who are willing to pay a price of self-discipline and self-sacrifice, going against the natural reactions and responses in order to obtain a greater success --- one that is God-inspired.

Book Description
Many Christians would be excited to know they have a spiritual inheritance, but they don't have a clue what that really involves. Why is that? Juanita Bynum, bestselling author of Matters of the Heart, takes you right to the core issue. What place does the pastor hold in your church, your community, and your own heart? She minces no words as she describes how our spiritual leaders have been placed in our lives to help us move into the full portion of the inheritance God has for us. But it will not happen unless we allow them to speak into our lives.
Juanita Bynum answers some of the following questions in this most poignant message yet:
Do I really want to be released into the spiritual destiny God has for me?
Am I ready to inherit the power God has deposited in my spiritual forefathers?
Am I ready to inherit my destiny from God to go and minister to others?
This is a message that will help believers acquire special blessings from their spiritual fathers.

There Truly is No Substitute for Obedience.......2007-05-11
My primary interest in checking out MY SPIRITUAL INHERITANCE from the library was to learn more about the Jezebel spirit, as that is the only book that came up under that keyword search. I did find a rich chapter on that and many other chapters on so much more.
Juanita Bynum, the author writes of the importance of one's relationship with their pastor, their spiritual parents, in God's divine order of releasing His power in and through His children. She writes that as a person's relationship is with their pastor, so is their relationship with God. This is almost identical to a statement I had heard several months ago from a pastor in his own pulpit, a pastor who said: As your relationship is with God, so is your relationship with your spouse, that in the same message where he also said that a rebellious nature is like trying to hold on to something slipping through your hands like sand. Both statements point out the critical importance of these intimate, yet temporal relationships in terms of our ultimate accountability to God, who is jealous over His own. Bynum speaks of divine relationships, known first in the spiritual realm, and then on earth, and she cites scriptural precedents (e.g. Samuel knowing Saul before they met).
In Chapter 1, "The Voice of the Father," the author counsels, "Remember this: Any place where you are not receiving the manifold blessings of God is your spiritual Egypt," a truth I had learned through other avenues only during the past year or so.
In Chapter 2, as soon as that, she addresses, "The Power of Obedience," in such a way that reminded me of a key message entitled, "No Substitute for Obedience," given by Pastor Phillip Gregory Johnson, SonCoast Pentecostal Church in Hudson, Florida, on September 3, 2006, a message from which I borrowed the title for this review, for truly there is no substitute for obedience. Bynum writes quite a bit about rebellion (as the sin of witchcraft) and the irreplaceable importance of uncompromising obedience to God.
In Chapter 11, "The Seduction of Jezebel," Bynum makes several salient points about dealing with this most destructive spirit: a) Jezebel is not the root, she is the deception, the decoy; she is controlled by the "proud and lofty thing" that controls her, Baal and Ashtoreth; therefore, we are not just fighting against a mere "woman" (that can manifest in men or women), but against a stronghold of Satan; b) Since Jezebel operates legally (based on legitimate authority that has been yielded to her) this spirit cannot be dealt with by rebuking it; c) Obedience to God, uncompromising obedience to God (not my will, but Thy will be done) is the primary means of dealing with this stronghold of Satan; d)"As a people of God, we have to come against Jezebel as a company. We cannot be divided--because when we stand as one and all say the same thing, Jezebel cannot find a corner to whisper in." (p. 221)
Speaking as true prophetess herself, Bynum advises that a false spirit (e.g. a Jezebel spirit, which acts as a chameleon, changing into whatever it needs to be to deceive) may also prophesy, may also bless, however, a false spirit will never prophesy the *process* God will take you through in getting you to where He is taking you. So, if someone in a spirit of prophesy, for example, tells you that God is going to bring His truth home to you by burning through certain imperfect bulwarks you have built in your life and will do so with His own holy fire, then that is a word of God through that person that should be heeded; that, as well as whatever else God may have to say to you through them.
The author is so balanced, so skillful in handling scripture, so authoritative in how she handles the subject matter, that (other than the chapter on generational curses, a concept I question) I do feel this book is well worth reading. I see that she has also developed some study aids to go along with it, and I believe the content is rich enough to warrant that depth of delving into this subject matter, which is so relevant for this time, this generation.
Bynum recommends Jezebel Vs. Elijah: The Great End Time Clash by Bree Keyton, a book I definitely plan to read because Bynum recommended it.
life-changing and awesome.......2005-11-04
first of all 95% of the reviews i have read on this book are pure rubbish.you people that are writing those trash about this book are dead spirituallly and blind, you cant see.the truth hurts but it will set you free.anyway, this book is so powerful,i bought it last year and it tremendously changed my life,it taught me tremendously about spiritual authority.if you want to be in authority, you have to be submitted to authority.the power of a spiritual father/mother will change your life forever.it changed my life and will change yours forever .my spiritual father is an awesome blessing to my life, and through him i received my spiritual inheritance.the jezebel aspect of it was also fantastic and revealing.the holy spirit compelled me to read this book and it was life-changing.
Reviving the Shepherding Movement.......2005-10-19
Although Bynum does not have enough historical knowledge to be aware of it, this dangerous little book attempts to revive the dangerous teachings of the shepherding movement of the '70s, which elevated the authority of pastors over that of the still, small, internal voice of the Spirit. Bottom line: Obey your pastor, even if he's wrong. God will bless you for it. If you don't, you'll never get your "spiritual inheritance."
Scriptually Sound or let's Make a slave?.......2005-09-21
I got a few good things out of this book. But much of it was about the dominance of leadership and how to keep the flock in check.
I have come to realize overtime that just because someone has a title does not mean that they care about you.
Just because someone is a pastor, elder or prophet does not mean they have your best interest at heart. I believe our destiny will come to pass period. This book was written for people who want to be famous in God. When you have a celebrity like Ms. Bynum as a minister or pastor-she has to be like this hard driving slave driver.
Pg.172 she compares Saints of God-Human beings to "Spiritual race horses" reducing people to animals. This is exactly how Willie Lynch suggested the "Negro Slave" be broken and psychologically driven by the Master. Check it out:
"First of all we need a black nigger man, a pregnant nigger woman and her baby nigger boy. Second, we will use the same basic principle that we use in breaking a horse, combined with some more sustaining factors. We reduce them from their natural state in nature; whereas nature provides them with the natural capacity to take care of their needs and the needs of their offspring, we break that natural string of independence from them and thereby create a dependency state so that we maybe able to get from them useful production for our business and pleasure.
1) Both horse and niggers are no good to the economy in the wild or natural state. 2) Both must be broken and tied together for orderly production. 3) For orderly futures, special and particular attention must be paid to the female and the youngest offspring. 4) Both must be crossbred to produce a variety and division of labor. 5) Both must taught to respond to a peculiar new language. 6) Psychological and physical instruction of containment must be created for both.
NOTE: Neither principles alone will suffice for good economics. All principles must be employed for the orderly good of the nation. Accordingly, both a wild horse and a wild or natural nigger is dangerous even if captured, for they will have the tendency to seek their customary freedom, and, in doing so, might kill you in your sleep. You cannot rest. They sleep while you are awake and are awake while you are asleep. They are dangerous near the family house and it requires too much labor to watch them away from the house. Above all you cannot get them to work in this natural state. Hence, both the horse and the nigger must be broken, that is break them from one form of mental life to another, keep the body and take the mind. In other words, break the will to resist.
Now the breaking process in the same for the horse and the nigger, only slightly varying in degrees. But as we said before, you must keep your eye focused on the female and the offspring of the horse and the nigger. A brief discourse in offspring development will shed light on the key to sound economic principle. Pay little attention to the generation of original breaking but concentrate on future generations. Therefore, if you break the female, she will break the offspring in its early years of development and, when the offspring is old enough to work, she will deliver it up to you. For her normal female protective tendencies will have been lost in the original breaking process. For example, take the case of the wild stud horse, a female horse and an already infant horse and compare the breaking process with two captured nigger males in their natural state, a pregnant nigger woman with her infant offspring. Take the stud horse, break him for limited containment. Completely break the female horse until she becomes very gentle whereas you or anybody can ride her in comfort. Breed the mare until you have the desired offspring. Then you can turn the stud to freedom until you need him again. Train the female horse whereby she will eat out of your hand, and she will train the infant horse to eat of your hand also.
When it comes to breaking the uncivilized nigger, use the same process, but vary the degree and step up the pressure so as to do a complete reversal of the mind. Take the meanest and most restless nigger, strip him of his clothes in front of the remaining niggers, the female, and the nigger infant, tar and feather him, tie each leg to a different horse faced in opposite directions, set him a fire and beat both horses to pull him apart in front of the remaining niggers. The next step is to take a bullwhip and beat the remaining nigger male to the point of death in front of the female and the infant. Don't kill him. But put the fear of God in him, for he can be useful for future breeding." http://www.informationman.com/lynch1.htm
Juanita Bynum clearly borrowed the idea from an old white man who needed to systematically keep Negroes in check. Read Page 172 of her book and compare the "Let's Make a Slave" write up.
All I can say is, the black church is in a state of chaos.
It's shameful and frightening. All your spiritual ambitions will come true if you let me break you down and don't forget "just keep quiet and keep walking because you are still wild" as Ms. Bynum says. Remember it is for your generations that will come after you. It's also so when you are publically rebuked you are actaully saving others in the congregation and your offspring. Pg 146. Willie Lynch said the very same thing.
We should submit, support and aid those who love and truly care for our souls.
Unexpected, yet Powerful.......2005-06-17
Recommended read for EVERY Christian.
I wasn't sure about the title, yet I was led to buy this book and read it.
When I began to read it I found that what I had come to understand in a Bible study was confirmed and expounded in this book.
Some say it is about pastors. Some say it is about completely submitting to pastoral authority.
It is not. It is simply about the responsibility of leadership to church body and the responsibility of church body to leadership. Yet is so much more than that. It gives insight to the underlying problems that do and can occur in our lives/church as we walk in obedience to God and his call on our lives.
Reccomend reading Myles Munroe's book on Vision if you don't know what God as called you to do/be. Everyone has a calling. Do you know what your's is? If you do you will find this book helpful!

A devotional guide from the heart.......2001-05-18
In this book Dennis Jerningan reminds us that Christ always has a plan for us. He reminds us also that God wants to "sing over us" and even ministers to us in our sleep. Combining his own story of freedom with Biblical insight, Jernigan makes the promises of Christ new and refreshing.
There is Healing Here.......2000-08-02
Incredible though it may seem, God, through the text of this Dennis Jernigan guy, brings healing from the sin of homosexuality. Been struggling and despairing for years? I did, too, until my one single reading of this book. Of course, it isn't this book alone that brings the healing; our awesome God does the work. But thanks be to God for giving us Dennis Jernigan who dared to write this text. I've said to myself, "that's not who I am" a million times since reading this book. How freeing to find my destiny. I can't be thankful enough for this book and God's grace.
From the heart of the Father.......1999-09-15
The first DJ song I ever hear was 'Make me more free', and from that moment I knew that this man - Dennis Jernigan, had an incredible gift of expression. The way he speaks from his heart, and speaks of the Father's heart has brought me so much nearer to understanding God as my Father. I'd recommend this book to anyone, at any stage of life.
This is my destiny - what a blessing!.......1999-08-10
This book has (and is) helping me so much regain my identity in Christ. I share the struggle and sin that Dennis had - that of homosexuality. With God's strength, I am breaking free. This book has been paramount in my healing because it explains so well what our true identity in Christ is. I recommend it to anyone, whether struggling with homosexuality or whatever secret sin plagues their life. The companion CD is as helpful as it is beautiful.
A "Must Read" if you ever needed your spirit lifted!!!!!.......1999-04-21
If you have ever felt like you were running on empty, that you could not go another step farther or that you were battling the Enemy -- then this is the book that you should read. It is full of stories that will truly inspire and uplift you. These are true stories and lyrics that come from the heart of experience. Each chapter starts out with lyrics to the songs that have been written in response to times such as you see within the covers of this book. You cannot read this book and not be touched. I can only say that I have read it and it has changed me!

Memoirs of My Life and Yours
-Using the Issues of Life to Shape our Destiny
by Karlene Hunt
BookSurge, LLC
Genre: Inspirational Memoir
ISBN: 1419626159, $10. 99, 78 pp, 2006
Karlene Hunt was born in St Ann, Jamaica. Her family moved to the United States in 1983. In this book Karlene shares some of her life, personal problems and observations with us, but more importantly, she shares her inspiration which is grounded in her belief in God and the teachings of the Bible. Allow me to quote some from the back cover:
"How do you navigate a relationship through the rough patches? How can you raise your children to respect themselves and trust God? And how can you live the way God intended to you live? Hunt's advice is practical, inspirational and right on target. Tune out inappropriate media. Nurture the body and soul with the right food and the right thinking. Parent so you produce children who will honor God, and always rely on the Bible as your ultimate teacher."
From this short paragraph, you can decide for yourself whether or not this book is for you.
As constructive criticism, I would suggest that Karlene have her book proofread and edited by a professional editor. In addition, as writing is a craft and writers work to hone their skills, I recommend she add the following three books to her writing tool box: The Chicago Manual of Style - 15th edition, The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr and E. B. White and The Wordwatcher's Guide to Good Writing & Grammar by Morton S. Freeman.
Readers will forgive an error or two but soon lose patience with a writer who hasn't taken the time to study and learn the basics.
