Lots of practical, useful and down-to-earth information in Charles Carlson's "The Individual Investor Revolution". Carlson lists dozens of Internet sites, pointing and clicking the reader to valuable stock research previously available only to the professional investor. Carlson keeps things simple and easy to understand. He talks about the importance of owning stocks, investing regularly, simple investment plans, having patience with your investments. He provides a 100+ page list of U. S. stocks offering Direct Stock Purchase plans and a 28 page list of foreign stocks available for direct purchase through U. S. stock exchanges. He provides a lot of "how to" information for the small investor. This book has a lot of value and is worth reading.

Breaking with the Teutonic tradition of his predecessors, composer Edward Burlingame Hill was among the first Americans to study composition in Paris. His music, in which he incorporated new harmonic, instrumental, and textural devices, helped foster acceptance for many early twentieth-century innovations. Hill also shared his predilection for French music with students at Harvard, where he taught from 1908 until 1940. Through his courses in orchestration and music history, Hill's students were exposed first-hand to modern French compositional techniques and the latest European musical trends. As a writer, Hill served as a Boston music critic, authored many journal articles on contemporary music, and wrote the first systematic English-language study of French musical thought from Chabrier to "Les Six." This volume charts Hill's life and career as a composer, educator, and writer in the context of early twentieth-century American culture. The first section consists in a biographical and interpretive essay that details his multifaceted career and identifies his contributions to American music. Wonderful book, easy to read even if your english is not your
mother language. Once you start this book you don't want to leave it A lot of small stories which captive the reader,
especially if he remembers some events of World War 2.

I was so touched by this biography and by Thea Woolf's life........1998-12-05

This book gently draws us into the life of Thea Woolf and into the world of this Jewish nurse who lived and worked in Alexandria, Egypt during World War II. She was born in Germany and trained to be a nurse there. She then served as a nurse in the Jewish hospital in Alexandria for many years. Being in Egypt before and during the war years not only saved her life but also thrust her into a leading role of helping Jewish refugees who came to or through Egypt in their attempt to escape the holocaust.

She relates several stories of people who took part in this fight to save so many lives. These stories are both tragic and uplifting. We discover that Muslims as well as Jews worked together for this cause, that for these caring people human life was more important to them than any religious differences.
