This is by far the best mutual fund investment guide on the market today. It's packed with timely information on choosing funds, and includes complete profiles on 100 of the year's top stock and bond funds, based on various rankings. The book is well-written and easy to read, even for absolute beginners. I highly recommend it.

Unique In Its Genre.......2004-04-23

Other reviewers have stated that this book is dated and it is but that misses the fact that the basic premise of the book is still valid. With the way prices are going up in some places. you'd need a new edition every year to keep current. Look past that and grasp the fact that it's possible to become financially independent by owning as few as three rental houses and the one you live in.

This is a very unique book in the field of real estate investing that will expose you to thinking outside the box. The goal of all investing should be to achieve financial independence, not owning a bunch of houses.

There are areas of the country where this plan won't work as well as others because rents don't begin to cover the operating expenses and mortgage unless you go in with a huge down payment. But, even though those who live in the hyper-markets of San Diego, Boston or DC won't believe it, there are still very nice areas of the country where you can buy houses all day for less than $100,000. And in those markets, this plan will work.

ANTIQUATED.......2003-02-22

The information provided in this book is extremely dated and unrealistic. I live in California and I do understand the real estate prices are much higher on average than most parts of the country. However, he uses an example of an average 3BR, 2BA home selling for between $10,000 and $15,000 and continues to use these numbers throughout his book. Somebody tell me where these homes exist? Downtown Baghdad? He gives an example of how to determine the value of a rental income property. He says to take the monthly rental amount and multiply it by 100 to determine the value of the property. His example was $150 monthly rent x 100 = house value of $15,000. I own a rental that rents for $1500. If I used his example $1500 x 100 = $150,000 right? Wrong!!! This same property will sell today for $375,000, which means a buyer's tenants would have to pay $3,750 per month. Gee, do these numbers ad up? You figure!

Exceptional, specific and useful content........2002-05-30

David Grzesiek has produced in this title, a very detailed, and specific introduction to making money in the real estate business. Avoiding the hyperbole, and excessive claims of other titles in this field, he details methods, and techniques for making profit in single family homes. These are backed up with charts and statistics. The illustrations he uses are not current in the values represented, but he is more interested in conveying understanding of principles, which translate into whatever figures you require with little effort.
Not a make money overnight book, nor a title that neglects detail amidst "positive attitude" bluff, this is a readable, accessible title that I believe would assist people in making a start in a profitable field.

great way to learn your blues chops.......2007-05-11

i have been studying blues guitar for the last 2 years now. i've a number of books on the subject. i've progressed reasonably working with them.

then i got this book. learnt a couple of songs. and my playing has simply jumped a notch!

yeah because i'm playing what i want to play - being a huge clapton fan (bluesbreakers, cream etc). plus clapton is playing in such ways i never encountered in the tutorial books. his chops are simpler but much more effective. but some of his runs are quite difficult - not the mere playing of the notes, but the effect created by such.

i'm never going to play what's in the tutorial books anywhere - but this is what i want to play and it is such great fun doing it.

i can't comment too much on the accuracy of the tab - it sounds ok - trying to figure out the notes with the actual solos is itself quite a job - i recorded all the solos of this album in triplicate on a tape to use them as a reference. but guess it will get easier as i progress.

it would be very helpful if you know atleast some basic blues - the 12 bar, the pentatonics etc. needless to say, as with all blues learning, one should focus on the tonic (1st), the dominant (4th) and sub-dominant (5th) notes and the way they are manipulated to create the blues effect.

if you want to play like clapton get this.

btw i wish somebody would publish similar tabs of the music of the great peter green - his album with mayall 'a hard road' and his early fleetwood mac material as well.

Anyone wanting to learn core Clapton needs this book. It is well done with most tab appearing to be right on. Obviously some songs are Harp based, with Mayall laying down soem of his best work. Love it.

Where is John Mayall?.......2001-10-30

This book purports to be a biography of the father of the British blues John Mayall. Mayall is introduced after about the first hundred pages and even then there is scant reference to any personal data about the man, his early influences and everything one would expect in a biography. The author focuses more on the evolving British blues scenes and Mayall's proteges (Clapton, Green) then he does on Mayall. I suspected that the author never talked to Mayall and this was confirmed when I asked Mayall after one of his recent shows to sign the book. He graciously declined, stating that the book was unauthorized and the author never interviewed him. Mayall also said he would be penning his autobiography so pass up this turkey and wait for the real McCoy.

Book Description

Twentieth-century Jewish history is embodied in this autobiography of a World War II Holocaust survivor who lives today in Argentina. Charles Papiernik was educated in a Polish stetl, a small town. Breaking away from his ultra-orthodox Hasidic teachers, he became active in socialist youth movements in Warsaw and moved to Paris to join his brothers. In spite of being deported and spending time in concentration camps, including Auschwitz, he survived the war and immigrated to Montevideo, Uruguay, where he opened a business and prospered. After twenty-five years in Uruguay, political and economic turmoil prompted him to immigrate once again, this time to Buenos Aires, where, once again, his business acumen led to financial success. He eventually retired, devoting his energies to telling the public about the horrors of the Holocaust.

One of the few South American Holocaust memoirs available in English, Papiernik's story is very different from the stereotypical image of Holocaust survivors in South America forced to live cheek by jowl with ex-Nazis. Papiernik took Uruguay and Argentina by storm and claims never to have encountered anti-Semitism.
