This book succeeds where many others fail: It does an excellent job of breaking into layman's terms the most complex investing and financial concepts, while at the same time making the whole thing completely relatable for someone who knows *nothing* about investing. That is a talent many wish they had. This is no mean feat when you consider all the jargon you have to learn. Now, imagine having fun while doing it! Wow! Eric Tyson, eat your heart out!

Sure, it?s been a while since this book first came out, so you know it needs a little updating...get over it! I still give the book five well-deserved stars. I appreciate the authors for writing such an awesome little book, as reading a book is a big investment of time, and reading this book was definitely worth it.

Share it with a teen or twenty-something you love, and give them the gift of setting them on the path to becoming investors.

Before I bought this book, I was probably like a lot of young people out there... ya get paid from work and you go blow it on the weekend with your friends at the mall. You just manage to get your bills paid off, and wonder why you can never seem to get a decent amount put away in your savings account? People, wake up! This is the time you should be saving for your future, or you'll regret that you didn't when you get older! I bought this book with determination not to spend every dollar I make and how to put my money towards my future. The book gives excellent explainations on the stock market and how it works, and even explains all those Wall Street symbols in a way that it's actually fun to read! It explains everything from savings accounts, to stocks and bonds, to IRAs! When I was finished reading the book, I was so glad I had read it when I did, because the later you wait, the more you're wasting time! I recommend this book to all! Read it and you'll be glad that you did!

An excellent piece of information........1999-07-04

This is an excellent book. It makes so easy to understand - all those complicated stock terms, author makes use of beautiful examples from time to time. It is a must have for every person who wants to invest money in stocks etc. (may be, except the ones, whose primary carrier is stocks or stock trading). I myself bought and sold stock over the last few years but never understood the terminology completely. It is nice to have it in my library - Thanks to the authors.

While I haven't read this book myself, I happen to be reading a journal article entitled "Success the Second Time Around: a library rises in a small Colorado town thanks to the staying power of tenacious volunteers" (Library Journal, April 2005, pg 64) in which the author Bridget Bacon highly recommends Turner's "Vote for Libraries".

Bacon wrote that this book and another, Richard B. Hall's "Winning Library Referenda Campaigns" proved "to be very helpful" when city officials campaigned for support in building a new library in Louiseville, CO.

Bacon also wrote "Turner's book was indispensable for its advice on library campaign organization, while Hall's book, which also contains good information on organization, offered outstanding examples of library campaign literature."

My library does not own the book, so I'll have to wait, but I'm anxious to read it. I am a firm believer in the idea that Libraries Build Community! cmv

This book provides comprehensive information for nonprofit organizations, its directors, trustees, and development officers to make sound investment decisions. Content covered include topics such as the importance of establishing investment policies, creating an investment committee, and developing financial goals. The book is written in a language suitable for both the financial and non-financial individuals. There is also a glossary section of financial terms used throughout the book. Besides providing a solid background and overview of issues nonprofit organizations need to think about, the author gives many examples, including typical conversation that may occur in a board meeting and the methods to prevent such conflicts from happening. Finally, the appendixes sections contain many helpful templates, including investment policies form, monthly/quarterly reports, and some sample legal document agreements. One of the very few books of its kind, (investment for nonprofit organizations) this book is definitely worth the time for nonprofit organizational officers or the general interested reader.

Centralized, top-down management of water resources through regulations has created unnecessary economic burdens upon users. More flexible decentralized controls through the use of economic incentives have gained acceptance over the past decade. The theme of this book is the increasing efforts throughout water-scarce regions to rely upon economic incentives and decentralized mechanisms for efficient water management and allocation.
The book begins with a section of introductory chapters describing water systems, institutions, constraints, and similarities in the following regions: Israel and the Middle East, Turkey, California, Florida, and Australia. Four of these regions face similar climates with wet winters and dry summers. Florida has a more even seasonal distribution of rainfall, yet it uses similar management strategies in controlling groundwater demand and water quality.
The book concludes with a section on water management case studies. These case studies examine issues of conflict related to both water quality and water quantity. While the case studies address both international and intranational concerns in specific regions of the world, they portray broad principles that are applicable to many regions.
