One step closer to understanding........2004-05-23

Lafayette's revealing book is a survival manual for those who might feel lost at the unfathomable task of understanding the Japanese culture. The book focuses on the obstacles encountered in everyday life and business affairs, by almost every culture in the World when dealing with the japanese. It explains with first-hand experience how the culture has been changed and influenced by the Kata applied to every task from the art of Chado (or tea ceremony) to the miniturization of electronics, thus making the japanese such a unique culture. This book is a delight to read because of its objetivity and sociological insight. It is not a travel guide, it is a great work of cultural and sociological study.

The 12% Problem.......2007-02-13

If you want to find out how to take 12% out of the market in cash per year, this book is for you. It's clear, concise and comes with instructions on how to create P/L templates on Excel. In addition, they'll send everything you need to get started on Excel in your email for free. The book set-up moves from simple on to complicated, lots of graphs and plenty of examples. My problem, which may be not a problem for others, is that pesky 12& gain per year. If you've got plenty of investible capital, that might be enough. But, if you don't, it isn't. For me, an annual return of 12% just isn't enough when you figure in your time and trading fees and the fact that you're essentially selling covered calls on the underlying Qs and Diamonds. On the other hand, Kadavy states up front that this is a 'conservative' approach to using options. The best thing about this approach is that you no longer have to chose from the confusing universe of optionable securities, all you use here are QQQQ and DIA. Simple and conservative.

Loving it........2007-01-11

It was a my husband's favorite Christmas present. This is his favorite strategy - he has really been enjoying the book. He says all you need is a minimum of one thing you didn't know to catapult you farther - this had many more than one! Thanks.

A primer on options, having little to do with Qs, Diamonds, other than that is the vehicle. Not sure you need to buy book to see benefit of diversification in underlying asset -all other risk aspects remain the same.

VERY USEFUL & PROFITABLE BOOK.......2004-01-05

A friend of mine who took a college class about covered call writing taught by the author recommended this book. It was a real eye opener for me, as I hadn't had any exposure to covered calls before as is probably true of most people. I have enough assets to comfortably invest in the stock market, but not enough to diversify adequately through individual stocks. The discussion about the Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking Stock (QQQ) and the Diamonds-Dow Jones Average Tracking Stock (DIA)solved this problem for me. At a time when I have no confidence in mutual funds, I was able to use these two Exchange Traded Funds as the foundation for my investment portfolio. They ideally suit my risk profile. The ability to write covered calls on them was icing on the cake. I've written two sets of calls so far, so now I can appreciate the simple beauty of this investment strategy through firsthand experience. It worked out great. I also plan to study the chapter on technical analysis in more detail to help plan timing decisions in the future on whether to write out-of-the-money or in-the-money covered calls. Fortunately the book does an excellent job of making all of this completely intelligible for an investor at any level of understanding about the markets. The covered call feature creates an immediate stream of income and provides protection in case of a downturn in the market. I highly recommend this book for any investor who is looking for a better way to achieve investment goals rather than just owning mutual funds or stocks alone. Owning the Qs and Diamonds is a great way to participate in the stock market and get instant diversification through one or two securities. Also, the income from covered call writing is just what I needed to supplement my other income sources.

This book is definitely the best introductory book to the main aviation concepts I ever read.
Each issue - from flight static and dynamics to FCS, propulsion, avionics and navigation, weather theory and influence, flight and ground operations - is considered in this book with a technical, but easily understandable, approach. The book is, as a matter of fact, an introduction and, therefore, is not suggested to experienced readers. It's, in any case, a five-star introduction.

This is a reference that every pilot, CFI or pilot wannabe should have. It covers the basics of flight in simple to understand language. Keep a copy on your book shelf to loan out to anyone who is interested in learning to fly.

I have no previous aviation experience other than my father was a navigator. I needed a resource to prep for the ASTB and most military test prep books were junk when it came to the ASTB. This book really helped prepare me and I think it will continue to be a resource to me while in flight school.

Well intentioned, but with errors........2000-07-13

Arial's best chapter is the one detailing all the petty, pubescent, "mine is bigger than yours" chicanery that dogged the creation of the North Wall. This is, sadly, an accurate description of a disgusting mentality that plagues Veterans' groups across North America. No government need fear or listen to these characters, who are too busy fighting amongst themselves to make any kind of difference.

Arial also brings to light true heroes like Mike "Iceman" Gillholley, and Ed "Edwardo" Johnson. However, there are some errors.

She writes about the 173rd "Division", the "American" Division, and a Marine "Lieutenant-Corporal." (Should be the 173rd Airborne BRIGADE, the AMERICAL Division and Marine LANCE-Corporal respectively.)

More seriously, she labels as a "benevolent wannabe" a Central America War survivor who has done more than the average Vietnam Vet to advance the Cause in Canada, while inadvertedly promoting one jabroni whose records are completely devoid of any combat action decorations.

Arial did good to write about Veterans when she could have well written about immensely more profitable subjects. However, her investigative techniques need work before she reaches the level of Yves Lavigne and Jug Burkett.

Compelling Story about Canada's Dirty Secret.......2000-03-09

This compelling book brings to light the stories and struggles of some of the 50,000 young Canadians who were recruited to fight in the Vietnam War. The U.S. deliberately recruited them, setting up offices in Plattsburgh and Bellingham near the Canadian border. But the Canadian government doesn't recognize these men as soldiers and hasn't provided any of the support services they should've been getting to cope with what they experienced. Consequently, many have suffered in silence. For some, the pain was too great.

Despite the subject matter, this book is hard to put down. It reads like a long magazine article rather than a book. It also changed the way I perceive the men who fought in the Vietnam War. It seems that many bought into the U.S. and Hollywood propaganda about wars and being a soldier. When you're 18 years old, that can be pretty powerful.

Offensive and insulting.......2004-01-22

It is hard to tell what is truth and what is fiction in this book. In its attempt to be lighthearted and amusing, more often the tone appeared to be mocking the Catholic Church. If I were trying to learn about the lives of those holy men and women whose examples we try to copy in our walk with Jesus - well, I most definitely would not use this book or let anyone I knew read it.

Better than others of its type.......2002-12-21

I liked this book better than The Everything Lives of the Saints. The "Everything" series contained a lot of fabrication presented as fact.

This book includes a lot of legend, that's true, but the acknowledges in the book that there's no real way to separate what is fact and what is fiction. Even though a lot is mired in legend of a millenia or more, I found this book very accessible and enjoyable to read.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to The Lives of the Saints.......2002-09-28

My first impression is that this book is a joke. Granted there is a lot of truth to what is stated but there is so much fabrication intertwined with this truth that a person who is not grounded in the reality about the saints would leave this book with a complete misunderstanding of "the lives of the saints". I don't understand what Mr. Williams' goal was in writing this book. His hang up on sex that is entangled with these holy people makes me really wonder. Please do not read this book. There are many books out there that tell the true story of the lives of the saints.
